The first Jigoku Shoujo DVD came out earlier this week, and one of the special features was the PV for the ending song 「かりぬい」 (Karinui) by Noto Mamiko. The full song is quite haunting, even more so than the TV sized version. The PV makes it even creepier because of the Ai doll (those red eyes…). This is definitely worth a watch if you’re a fan of the series.
Thanks to Patrik for the PV.

  1. This PV was better than I was hoping for, actually – the music’s lovely, and the doll that represents Enma Ai.. were her eyes glowing in that last close-in, or was it just the angle that caused them to suddenly catch the light? That was a little creepy, but cool looking like DK1 noted. One of the better PV’s I’ve seen, though I wish it’d been subbed when I watched it, if only so I could follow some of the lyrics.

  2. One more note – is the removal of Enma Ai’s blindfold supposed to suggest how she’s developed a hate for her duties as the Jigoku Shoujo, but is unable to escape the trap her life’s become? Which may be, of course, one reason that she’s developed a link to Tsugumi? I assume that Mamiko Noto’s lying dead as a stone at the end there, after the Enma-doll vanished.

  3. *Wonders where the Ai doll came from*
It seems like a lovely PV. I’ll see if I can get one of my friends to download it for me…

Let’s pick memories; let’s pick flowers
I’ll raise a ring to the darkness in my chest and decorate it

At the dead end all the time
    I can never escape
I’ll let my sorrow ride on the birds in the sky and fly

    This place is the basting
    The eternity that binds me
Whose going and returning passes by me is a dream

The sun sets and hides the shadows; alone, I feel like crying
The centers of my eyes that stain black will grow afraid

This is place is the basting
The eternity that knitted the world
Whose going and returning follows is the wind

I strayed away for a moment and wept…

    This place is the basting
    The eternity that binds me
Whose going and returning passes by me is a dream
