Summary:
The first thing that comes to Samatarou’s mind when Kumiko asks him to go out with her is Tenko. But he quickly gets that image out of his head and accepts Kumiko’s proposition. When Samatarou returns to the classroom, Tenko is ready to go home with him. But he breaks the news to her that today he’s going home with Kumiko since the two of them are now dating. Tenko tries to act happy for him, but her true feelings are apparent when she comes face to face with Kumiko and there are tears in her eyes. Tenko runs back home and straight into Mama-san’s arms. Mama-san tries to calm her down, but to little success until Tenko finally tells her about Samatarou and Kumiko. This of course gets Mama-san furious. When Misa comes home, she wants the two of them to calm down because going out with Kumiko was Samatarou’s own decision. Misa asks Tenko the important question of what she wants to do. Tenko finally says that she feels that it’s ok as long as Samatarou is happy.
Meanwhile, Samatarou walks Kumiko home to a very broken down apartment building. Kumiko invites him in, but Samatarou is initially reluctant. It’s only after she looks him in the eye and says that she wants to be with him a little longer that he agrees. The inside of the apartment is rather small and bare. There, Samatarou meets Kumiko’s very sickly mother who has already heard of him because Kumiko talks about him all the time. Seeing how devoted Kumiko is to her mother, Samatarou promises to do whatever he can to help. When Samatarou goes home that evening, he’s confronted by his own furious mother. He’s able to dodge her attack and escape to his room where he finds Misa in her underwear waiting for him. Misa wants to know what he’s going to do about Tenko now that he’s going out with Kumiko. Samatarou thinks that it doesn’t have anything to do with Tenko because their relationship is god and angel, no more than just childhood friends. Since he doesn’t regret anything, Misa decides not to say anything other than the fact that he shouldn’t make Tenko cry.
That night, Tenko is crying on her bed, trying to tell herself that she doesn’t like Samatarou. The same voice from before tells her again that Samatarou doesn’t need her anymore and that she should return to heaven because her duty has ended. Tenko decides to follow the order to go back, but first, she asks for three more days because she wants to see Samatarou as a girl. The voice agrees to the three days, but he says that she cannot go back on her promise because it is now a contract between them – after three days, she must to return to heaven. As soon as Tenko agrees, she hears a noise from her desk. On it, a piggy bank with wings has appeared. When she starts shaking it, the piggy bank starts talking. It wants her to keep it a secret as to not worry the Kamiyama family. Tenko realizes that this piggy bank, who introduces himself as Suguru the archangel, was the one talking to her before. Suguru is still a piggy bank though, and he verbally reports the amount whenever money is inserted into him. This amuses Tenko so much that she starts laughing and crying at the same time.
The next morning, Tenko wakes up late and is worried about making breakfast for everyone. She suddenly stops panicking because she realizes that soon everyone won’t have her to prepare meals for them. With this on her mind, Tenko asks Suguru if she’ll meet her real family once she goes back to heaven. Suguru tells her that it’s not necessary to think about this kind of thing and that for now she should value her time with the Kamiyama family. He then asks her to think about what a family is. It is not just the people you’re connected to by blood, family is the people you always watch over. Noticing the time, Tenko heads out of her room and tells Suguru to wait there, but he follows her out to tell her that he’s thirsty. Unfortunately, he gets spotted by Meme. However, Meme isn’t surprised at all and simply deposits another 100 yen into the piggy bank. In fact, as Tenko tries to prepare breakfast, Suguru also gets seen by Mama-san and Misa, and both have non-surprised reactions, just like Meme (both of them also deposit some money).
It’s not until Samatarou spots the flying piggy bank that someone in the family finally has the correct reaction. But then Samatarou just accepts it and puts in another 100 yen. Anyway, he tells Tenko that he doesn’t need breakfast because he’s going on a morning date with Kumiko. Tenko tries to act happy for him, but she’s obviously really pissed off. After Samatarou leaves, Tenko takes her anger out on Suguru and a cabbage. She decides to take Suguru and follow Samatarou on his date.

Preview:

Enter Suguru, the piggy bank archangel! His appearance made the latter part of the episode rather comedic, compared to all the earlier emotion. But now we finally know who the pig from the OP sequence is.
So Tenko made a deal that she gets three more days before she has to return to Earth. I’m predicting that something big will happen in those three days, and Tenko will come out of it feeling needed again. Of course that something will have to do with Kumiko and Samatarou. As for the contract, I guess she could technically return to heaven and then come right back to earth or something.
I couldn’t shake the eeeevil feeling whenever I saw Kumiko, but maybe that was just me. Something seems fishy about the girl and her poor family, especially given how the previous Kumiko didn’t appear to be poor. Her headband also reversed colors between when she was previously here and now. And then there are those freaky eyes in the preview that could very well be hers. Couple that with the Midnight Girl episode title for next week and I’m hoping that we’re in for something big.

  2. motokits,

from what I heard, transfer students are allowed to keep their old uniform until such time that they can get the prescribed one (I’ve seen this happen in several animes, including Sailor Moon and Neon Genesis Evangelion)

  3. NOOOO! Tanko can’t go to heaven! 🙁
Someone is going to go all crazy once he finds out she is gone.
Or everything will be resolved in 3 days and she still have to leave.
I can’t wait for the last 3 episodes.

  4. Tenko looks REALLY devil in the preview. @Zzz: It’s always God. The first letter is big.
But I don’t know if he is supposed to be God as Christians or Muslims see him.
A pity the sub is just at episode 7..

  5. After viewing this ep and think of the preview I come up with a theory

Maybe Kumiko isn’t the devil, but that women (her mother) is.
    1. her mother looks evils
    2. If kumiko is devil that means she was a devil to begin with, and I doubt that a devil will be so easily mind controlled by Meme invention during the sports day at school.
    3. Althought the openning have Samataro choicing between Tenko and Kumiko, they do both appear to be beside him at the last sences. And I doubt that if she is devil and evil, she will be in the photo for thier family at the end.
With those points I am begging that the old sick Lady is the true devil in the nightmare wearing the red dress.

  6. This may be a little late, but in the preview for episode 9 in episode 8, Kumiko’s headband is the usual white with blue thingy at the side, but in the actual episode 9, the headband got reversed in colour. Animation error?

  7. The headband thingy was really inconsistent at episode 9 as the sub was just released a few moments ago. It was white with the blues at the side, and next second it was blue with whites at the side.
