Zero no Tsukaima – 05

In the dead of night, Fouquet uses her magic to enter a home and steal some jewels. At Tristein Academy, Louise is training Saito for an upcoming competitive show of familiars. Saito suggests a performance where he washes Louise’s panties, but that doesn’t go over so well with her. Instead, she decides that he should do something with Derflinger, but Saito remember how he wasn’t able to use a sword against Count Mott last time. He goes out and tries to swing Derflinger, but he just looks like an idiot. He’s lying on the ground when Siesta comes by, wondering if he’s practicing for the competition. All the second years are training for it, especially since this year Princess Henrietta is coming. After they talk, Siesta is about to go, but she turns back to tell Saito to do his best.
With much fanfare, Henrietta arrives the next day. Saito notices that Louise is slightly blushing as she watches on from the crowd. By that evening, Saito still hasn’t come up with a performance for the competition. He suggests panty washing again which gets Louise pissed off again. Fortunately for Saito, a knocking on the door saves him from a beating. The cloaked girl who comes in is none other than Henrietta, and she immediately hugs Louise. It seems that the two girls were childhood friends. Back then, Louise had said that if Henrietta ever wanted to cry because she was sad, she should just tell Louise and Louise would give her a hug. Henrietta had promised back that she’d definitely help when Louise is troubled. The current Henrietta has been wanting to meet both Louise and Saito. Because of their childhood promise, she was the one who used her powers to get rid of the blame on them for the Count Mott incident. When Henrietta has to go, she gives Louise a hug and tells Saito to do his best tomorrow. Louise gets pissed off when Saito tries to act cool and tells Henrietta to look forward to it. Louise tries to hit him for saying that, but Saito continually dodges her attacks. Henrietta puts on her cloak and leaves, commenting on how it’s as she thought: freedom is the best treasure.
The next day, all the second years get to show off their familiars in the competition. When it is Louise’s turn, everyone laughs because she has to introduce her familiar as a commoner. Saito quiets them all down by trying to act cool with Derflinger, but he makes a fool of himself instead. Louise has to drag him offstage by the ear. Meanwhile, Fouquet has come onto the academy grounds and is trying to get into the treasure room. She summons a golem outside, but then gets spotted by Louise and Saito. When the golem tries to grab both of them, Saito pushes Louise out of the way. Saito tries to tell Louise to run away, but she doesn’t. Instead, she casts a fireball in order to free Saito. Being Louise the Zero though, she misfires and almost scorches Saito. But in addition, her spell also managed to crack the outer wall of the treasure vault. Seeing the opportunity, Fouquet has her golem punch the crack to break open a hole.
Back at the competition, Tabitha had been chosen as the winner. Henrietta asked to see Tabitha’s dragon Sylph fly again, so she took to the air. Right as she’s doing so, the ground shakes from the golem punching the wall. Sylph and Tabitha fly over just in time to see the Fouquet running out of the vault after having stolen the Staff of Destruction. And so when the golem drops Saito, Sylph is there to catch him. Fouquet ends up getting away, and in the aftermath, Louise tries to apologize to Henrietta. The princess doesn’t blame Louise and although she has to go for now, she wants to see them again soon. Once Henrietta leaves, Louise expresses her concern about Henrietta being held responsible for what happened. She’s heard some bad rumors lately about the royal court. The thing that’s been bothering Saito is why Louise didn’t run when he got caught earlier. Louise answers that a mage who abandons their familiar is not a mage.

With the arrival of Henrietta (voiced by Kawasumi Ayako), the Shana trio of Shana, Yuuji, and Yoshida Kazumi is complete!
This time though, it’s not the two girls competing for the guy. I think there’s more chance of yuri between Louise and Henrietta than Henrietta fighting Louise for Saito. Those girls seem to be really close childhood friends. And in seeing their childhood together, we got to see an even loli-er (is that a word?) version of Louise.
I was really hoping that Saito wouldn’t just try to act cool, he’d actually be cool this episode. But in the end he couldn’t do much except keep Louise from getting caught by the golem, and he had to be saved by Tabitha and Sylph. In that sense, the episode was kind of disappointing. On the other hand, despite her misfiring, Louise’s fireball was surprisingly powerful since it was able to break through such a heavily fortified and magically protected wall. Maybe she really does just need to learn to aim.
Next week, another confrontation with Fouquet!

the green haired girl? it’s obvious

  • July 30, 2006 at 5:25 pmand618and

Could the green-haired girl be that old wizard’s secretary?I mean,I do not see her anywhere in the screencaps and the hair colour matches. Moreover, she knew from the last episode that the staff of destruction, the one I assume was stoled,is housed in the school.

  • July 30, 2006 at 5:51 pmBlanc

The clothing is a dead give away.

  • July 30, 2006 at 5:55 pmXXX

Hmm… Expected Yuj…I mean Saito to be a little more useful in this ep. But, by the looks of the screen shots, he didn’t do much…

  • July 30, 2006 at 6:01 pmwhee-ness

The clothes don’t seem to be similar to the secretary… A Siesta and Saito ending would be nice=P

  • July 30, 2006 at 6:23 pmNigredo

just because one piece of clothes don’t match that means it’s not her >_>

  • July 30, 2006 at 6:35 pmFireIce

Actually…The secretary has darker colored hair o_O
Either that or the lighting just makes it look darker >_>

My half-assed theory is that the two of them are in league or something like that…
Tabitha’s dragon is as awsome as ever *Mocks the other familiars* *Familiars lynch me* x_x

  • July 30, 2006 at 7:11 pmgolthin

Jeez! Louise has bladder problems? Does she need to change underwear every hour. So many panties to wash.

  • July 30, 2006 at 7:19 pmPakxenon

The Zero no Tsukaima novels are rocking the charts at the Japanese Amazon site… Surprising? I THINK NOT. *lol*

Yes! Finally, the ___ appeared when it’s suppose to. I want to see this! There are TWINS!

My theory, Louise has trouble with spells and keeps blowing up is because she has too much power. Hence, making her one of the most powerful mages and also explains why she is able to summon Saito, who is from a different world, and bestow him the legendary mark with special power.

  • July 30, 2006 at 11:44 pmTetsusaiga

oh man, this thingy is going kinda slow compare to the novel, and they skipped alot of the good parts.

Thanks for the novel spoilers. If you’re willing to spill more, please do so!

It urks me that so many novels are already published, but, not in English. *argh* I really wish I didn’t let my Japanese language skills die 15 years ago…

    That’s a very good thoery…

I too was disspointed that Saito didn’t really do much, could be cood if he can actually use his power from time to time. I am only hoping that Saito doesn’t learn to control his power when it’s already ep 13.

Hmm, well, just watched the raw. So Louise is a sqaure class mage after all, or even stronger.
Wasn’t it the staff which has been stolen? I remember the first episode where the school’s principle mentioned that it’s protection wall was done by 4 square class mages. Or am I wrong?
Anyways, I think Omni is right with his doubts for Henrietta. There is also no hint in the opening, that there’ll be some love between her and Saito.
I’m just curious where the story is heading now, I think
    Show Spoiler ▼

Well, some of the things I guess will happen. But it’s just a whisper in my ghost ;)
I don’t know the manga after all..
I just hope we’ll get a good ending (even if it’s still far away now) because the whole magic staff remembers me about Magikano. And for me the ending there was such crap and ****, that it ruined the whole series..

  • July 31, 2006 at 1:08 pmTohru

I don’t get it. What exactly is a triangular mage? Is it a mage with 3 elements mastered?

Oh, Testsusaiga, I want to know what happens till the end of V.3. If you don’t mind, I like getting spoiled. x.x

  • July 31, 2006 at 3:01 pmTetsusaiga

Some facts about magic: (Quoted from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zero_no_Tsukaima)
There are four magic elements: fire, water, wind, and earth. All magi have an affinity to one of those elements. There is a fifth element, the legendary element of void. There are no known users of void magic, whether past or present.

Magi can combine different magical elements or even stack the same element on top of itself to make spells more powerful. The power of a magus is determined by how many elements she can combine. There are four ranks of magi based upon this factor. Those who cannot combine any element together have the first rank, which is dot magi. Most magic students are in this class. Those who can combine two together are called line magi, the second rank. Some of the better students are capable of this. The third rank, triangle magi, is for those who can combine three elements together. If you reach the rank of triangle, you are worthy of being an instructor of magic (you’re an elite class magi). The fourth rank, the square magi, is rare. Those who reach it are worthy to be called legends. In myths, there is even a fifth rank called pentagram magi.

OK that’s all i can do, so tired…i’m goona go sleep.

Dammit, Tetsusaiga…. I couldn’t help but click the spoiler tags… even if there were 4 seperate ones. Now this series has been ruined… so there are only 8 volumes huh. I’m going to take jp this coming term so hopefully I can level up from just looking at the fun pictures without a clue what’s going on.

  • July 31, 2006 at 5:38 pmChi

Don’t overwork yourself. I’m learning Japanese at the moment and will also study it.
It is DAMN MUCH stuff to learn -_-
Thanks a lot Tetsusaiga for the information. I think they won’t change much in the anime, so the whole fun is just about to start :D

  • July 31, 2006 at 11:25 pmqin

thanks for spoilers doubt the shows gonna cover a bunch of that stuff.

i really don’t get how saito x louise would come about seriously, saito was pulled from his planet, forced to sleep on straw, eat on the floor, gets whipped, washes her clothes, dresses her, and whatever else he has to do, how do you start a relationship like that?

  • August 1, 2006 at 12:53 amTetsusaiga

lol i don’t know, guess that’s the author’s decision, lol. But i just hope they end up like fate stay night.

  • August 1, 2006 at 12:54 amTetsusaiga

sorry, I meant *don’t*end up like fate stay night. That would be sad, at least for me.

  • August 1, 2006 at 1:55 amMarcosV

Thanks again for sharing more indepth spoilers, Tetsusaiga.

Now I wonder how much will the anime reveal / go into depth describing in the “few” episodes that are left.

Well at least knowing a few spoilers I can wait a (little) more patiently for the next episode.

Anyway, i am surfing around and really liked your anime blog as well (can’t wait to set up my own animeblogger site in the next few days)…

Also, i am curious what the staff of destruction was…
