Doujin Work – 01

OP Sequence

OP: 「い~じゃん!友情」 (I~jan! Yuujou) by MAKI
Watch the OP! Mirror 1, Mirror 2

“Hey, did you get enough sleep? You look really out of it.”
“Nope, all-nighter.”
“Doing what, ecchi stuff? Hehe.”
“Yeah, actually.”
“Eh!?”
“I never heard you found someone…”
“No, it was by myself.”
“Staying up all night doing that w-with y-yourself?”
“If you’re so interested, want to help me next time?”

Ah, Doujin Work. Here’s something that’s not ashamed of what it is, and makes no attempt to disguise it. What are the merits of being a doujin artist? What kind of people do you market to? How does one become a doujin artist, anyways? Watch, and be entertained.

This first episode introduces our heroine Najimi Osana and how she is “initiated” into the doujinshi scene. It should be noted that Najimi’s seiyuu is Masumi Asano, who also played Risa in DNAngel, Girl B in ep 11 of Fumoffu, and more recently the well-endowed Sonsaku Hakufu from Ikkitousen. She’s got a nice voice…real genki and resolute sounding. She’s brought to ComiKet by her rather cute doujinshi artist friend to help with selling.

Before anyone asks, let me mention that Konata and the Hiiragi twins were nowhere to be seen. Speculation has Konata in the section of more deviant fetishes (eg ankles), Kagami busy blushing in the yaoi section, and Tsukasa in the other building.

Back to the show… this rather greasy albeit well-dressed guy with a loli in a meido costume show up – apparently him and Najimi know each other – and through some inexplicable sequence of illogical logic, Najimi decides she wants to start drawing doujin herself.

Well, one can’t help but feel the same way, sitting behind the counter of a doujin stall, having one greasy guy after another asking if he can get his greasy hands on your ero book and feast his eyes on your ero drawings. And if anything, do it for Legendary Girl A.

ED Sequence

ED: 「夢みる乙女」 (Yumemiru Otome) by 水橋舞 (Mizuhashi Mai)
Watch the ED!: Mirror 1, Mirror 2

Thoughts:

It’s quick, innocent fun with a rated M subject matter. The show, including the OP and ED, clocked in at less than 14 minutes, so it’s not like they have a lot of time to get into any sort of intricate plot – and it works rather well. The humor is simple and not dirty at all, and the characters are interesting and believable enough to keep me watching. The rest of the half-hour block is devoted to a live-action segment where the seiyuu try to make their own doujin. For some, this might be the highlight of the show, with guaranteed high-pitched squeals and plenty of ultra-girly voices.

If you’re looking for a quickie with no emotional baggage and no phone call 9 months later, this show might be the one for you!

The girl with black hair looks like Lyra from FMA. At least I think so.

It is ok but it just seems to be missing something. Maybe it is the animation effects or the sound effects that it lacks. It just doesn’t give you that feeling that gets you really into the story. Somewhat like too passive.

That sounds pretty interesting to me. Why aren’t you including that in the post, or will you do a separate one for it? I know I’d like to hear more about that one.

We are gathered here today to witness another mini-historical anime event: Peeking into the lives of our brave doujin artists, who risk their precious time and lives to bring us the best breas… er bread through Comiket… blah blah blah…

For those who knows 4chan and the like, the original manga author is hiroyuki, also known by his pen-name Gogi Powers, in his doujinshis. He’s very well known for his Tsukihime/Fate Stay/Night stuff. The popular meme of “J-J-J-Jam it in”, “vaGOO”, and “A Cat is fine too” that floats around in 4chan are his doing. :P (He did all those “really perverted loli Shiki” doujins)

This is of course, his original work and not a doujinshi.

You can also check wakachan and the TypeMoon image section.

Referring to our lovely protagonist as “Najimi Osana” really misses the point pretty hard. >_
