• There was a short commercial aired earlier this week for the new Honey and Clover live action drama. Pictured above from left to right are Hagu (played by Narumi Riko), Takemoto (played by Ikuta Toma), and Morita (played by Narimiya Hiroki). You can find the rest of the cast on DramaWiki, and the official site is here. Hagu’s actress looks a lot taller than I would have pictured her (she’s 163cm tall according to her wiki page), but I guess it’s hard to find an actress to fit the exact profile. Everyone else looks about right though. The series is set to begin January 8th on Fuji TV, and I’m more than interested enough to check it out and see if they can capture the same feel as the manga or the anime. Even if it doesn’t turn out to be that good, after watching the Negima Drama, I think I can stomach any type of adaptation now.

  • I’m not a huge Weekly Jump reader, so I don’t know if this happens for other series too, but I found it odd that To LOVE-Ru‘s tankobons have nudity in them while the magazine version does not (compare this and nsfw this). I always thought that Weekly Jump series were targeted towards a younger audience, and this makes me wonder what they’d do if the manga were ever licensed in the US.
  • I’ve started work on the preview for the next season. There are a relatively smaller number of shows (around 20) compared to the fall, so hopefully it won’t take too long to finish. I’ll also be putting up a poll around the middle of this next week asking for your opinion of the best show of 2008.
  • For those of you wondering about an update on Jaalin’s whereabouts: I still haven’t heard from him. I’m getting rather worried, but unfortunately I can’t do anything except wait and hope nothing bad happened.

    1. I heard about the H&C drama coming awhile ago from Scrumptious. I’m extremely excited. H&C has been my favorite anime forever, and it’s the type of series that could easily be successful in drama form (thought the live action movie wasn’t extraordinary….). I can’t wait, and I’ll definitely be checking it out.

    5. I can’t wait until the To-Love-ru Anime is out. The illustrator is the mangaka that made ‘Black Cat’.

This upcoming season is gonna be great! (Only because of the anime-adaption of Rosario + Vampire.)

    6. O.K. you don’t need to bash the Negima Drama so much. The actors, costumes, and script is sheer genius~! I’ve seen many blogs that detest this drama with a passion, and only come from a background of just watching only the first episode.

Hopefully you’re not one of those absent-minded bloggers that report without sufficient knowledge..

As for this drama, I am looking forward to it.

    7. since you didn’t give toma love by NOT cover hana kimi, PLEASE blog hachimatsu…c’mon, it’s even got hiroki narimiya…and thanks soooo much for the cm download!!! i never would have known things were going on without it!

    8. To LOVE-Ru’s tankobons in Chinese have the same jump censors, if my memory serves right. Or at least all Chinese scanlation groups have it that way. I believe they can do the same for the English version.

    9. Lol, Hudson is still a weeaboo and he still banned from Animesuki for being a retarted troll. And you wonder why /a/ hates Shinobu’s Lover(Mad Dog).

    10. Never expect them to shoot a H&C drama, it’s quite a strange feeling coz I really adore the anime series and would like the characters to remain 2D style. Anyway, if they are shooting a drama version of it, it better be a good adaption. Narumi Riko doesn’t really fit the bill as Hagu but tht remains to be seen. Glad to see Toma again tho’, hope he can pull off Takemoto’s character.

    11. ^-^ im really looking forward to the drama, seeing as honey and clover was sucha great anime!~ i suppose getting used to the way actors and actresses look compared to the anime is always a bit difficult, but i’m glad that Riko Narumi and Ikuta Toma are playing the main characters, another reason to watch it~~

i usually wouldn’t like it if they changed the story but i’m really hoping that the production company takes some liberty and takemoto and hagu end up together. ikuta and riko would look so great together. rather than morita, i’ve never seen his actor before, so im not really warming up to the prospect of him and hagu being together… oh well ~

    12. To Andi and everyone else who wants me to cover the H&C drama:
The process by which I decide what to blog and what not to blog is as much about what day the show airs on as it is about how good it is. Unless it’s incredibly good (which Hana Kimi was not imo), I won’t go out of my way to make room for a show when I already have other things scheduled. For dramas, this is even more important because they are usually one hour long and thus take forever to write up – it is very challenging to be write up an hour-long show on a weekday when I have a lot of other work (and most likely several anime series). That’s why I only ever cover dramas that I really enjoy, like HYD or YTM.

    13. Do you know Jaalin off line? You could call him if you do. I’m into the drama versions of anime and manga but Honey&Clover really didn’t strike me as that intresting. SOOO…IDK about the drama. Just my oppion. XD

    14. The less said about the “Negima” dorama, the better. *shudder*

As to the live-action “Honey and Clover,” who knows how it will be. The live-action movie I rather enjoyed (and blogged about it here and here) even though there were some aspects that didn’t do it for me. But I went ahead and purchased the R2 DVD for it. So it is possible to do a decent live-action title but most live-action adaptations I’ve seen are terrible.

Guessing you mean best show of 2007.. Baccano! better be on that damn list.”

Damn right. If Lucky Star and Claymore are on that list and Baccano! isn’t i’ll throw up. Baccano! 24th on MAL with a rating of 8.61, 24th on Anidb with a rating of 8.69, 40th on ANN with a rating of 8.49.

    16. I’ve done watching both. The drama storyline has been changed though. If I were to compared, I preferred anime coz they all are cute and the ending is satisfying compared to the drama.
