「意志」 (Ishi)
“Intent”

Episode at a Glance:
Realizing that Miharu plans to use the Shinrabanshou powers to help Yoite, Raimei insists on lending a hand in some way after coming to terms with what happened between Raikou and her family. Hearing this, Miharu asks her to help him get Banten’s forbidden scroll, even if it’s just information on it, which Raimei surprisingly agrees to. In the meantime, Miharu gets the Idzuna Shingan scroll from Katou (which Kotarou secretly permits with a plan in mind) and uses it to join the Kairoushuu. Having received a written invitation from the Kouga to see Miharu, Hattori believes this is perfect timing, but is unaware that this is (most-likely) part of Kotarou’s plan. After eating together, Yoite tells Miharu not to be so perplexed/concerned about him since he probably just wants to save Kumohira and the others, which makes Miharu think how different he is from when they made their promise. The next day, Yukimi, Raikou, Yoite, and Miharu pick up some new clothes before heading off towards Kouga as part of the invitation, where they plan to obtain the village’s forbidden scroll.

Impressions:
I’m finding it a bit hard to pick sides now since the Kairoushuu are surprisingly “normal”, just like the Fuuma and Banten side we’ve become so accustomed to. While the Kairoushuu’s goals are presented as the antagonist’s side of things, the way they carry out their Nabari world conduct is no different than our protagonists. Because of this, I get the feeling that characters from both sides (other than Miharu and Yoite) will end up working together at some point down the road. That’s not to say I’m expecting some sort of Earth Alliance + ZAFT -> Orb outcome, but simply the scenario where the line between who’s supposedly good and bad begins to blur.

On another note, I’m finding Yukimi’s “saying it like it is” lines pretty funny lately, probably because that’s the type of humour I personally use in real life. Most of his lines are pretty sarcastic, much like a tsukkomi in a manzai routine.

Next time, ninjas from Kouga…?

P.S. Raikou can’t drive worth a damn. Quite the epic failure if I do say so myself.

  1. Raikou’s hat must be on too tight.

Me: Raikou-san! Take off your hat! You apparently can’t see the road with that thing on.
Raikou: (turns around to face me) I LIKE my hat, so I’m going to keep it on!
Me: Gya! The road! The road! Look in front of you!!!
    (Crash) BAD END

Can’t wait to see the episode ^^

  2. “…but simply the scenario where the line between who’s supposedly good and bad begins to blur.” Definitely seeing that too. Then who’s the antagonist in this series? They’d better make clear soon, or else this series will go plain soon…

O____O Is that Miharu in a girl’s uniform?!

It sounds to me like you were expecting some sort of generic Shonen action series. You’re sadly mistaken though as this isn’t full of brainless fights every episode. I suggest you revert back to Naruto for your ninja adventures…

  4. For those of you thinking Nabari is a good vs. evil shounen fighting series: it isn’t. It’s a series about the the characters and how they develop and interact with others. None of the characters are clearly good or evil. So yes, please look elsewhere for your generic shounen fighting.

That being said, I’m also really looking forward to the Alya arc. It’s my favorite arc of the series so far.

  5. The story cover through the material pretty fast. But I am glad that they would probably be able to cover vol.7-9 with the left 12 episodes.

Personally, I like Kairoushuu’s side the most. May be due to the fact that I like people on the team such as Yukimi and Raikou.

  6. If anyone still thinks this is your usual generic shounen perhaps we can convince them that Bleach is Yaoi.

Ninja’s were about more than fighting, they were about strategy and skill and…shudo.

  7. I’ve only watched the first 4 episodes of this series so far, although I have up to ep 10 on my hard drive,…. I don’t know how much time has passed in the story since the first ep, but doesn’t Miharu look a bit oder here?

  8. I wonder what exactly they’re conveying to each other here

If they were also sticking their thumbs outward with those hands then it would potentially constitute a two-way love confession 😀

Getting a bit moe here? 😀

  9. Or maybe they’re just saying good-bye to each other…
I don’t see anything to look into with the hand sign they gave each other. For all we know, they could be saying ‘Rock and Roll!’ 😛
