Watch the 2nd ED!: Online, Mirror 1, Mirror 2

「お稲荷さま。芋を焼く」 (Oinari-sama. Imo wo Yaku)
“Oinari-sama. Roasts Potatoes”

Episode at a Glance:
After sales at his convenience store drops, Ebisu checks the online community forums for gods and finds out that there’s a binbougami (貧乏神), god of poverty, in Suzunose. Being Halloween tonight, Noboru has volunteered to help watch over children while they trick & treat, and Misaki has as well because of him. After calling all the yoakai in the area, Ebisu offers a reward of ten thousand cash to the person who can bring him the binbougami. While Kuugen is more interested in roasting the potatoes she got from Noboru, Kou and Tooru decide to look for the binbougami after realizing how the money would help Noboru out with their expenses. Out trick & treating, Noboru finds a quiet child in his group and eventually convinces him to participate in the Halloween tradition, unaware that he’s actually the god everyone’s looking for. Meanwhile, all the youkais’ attempt to find the binbougami ends up in a frantic, mistaken chase after Ogami.

Back at the shrine, Ebisu is disappointed that no one was able to find the binbougami, but Noboru suddenly shows up with him. Seeing this, Ebisu awards him with ten thousand đồng, the Vietnamese currency, which equates to roughly seven hundred yen. Claiming he never promised ten thousand yen, Ebisu ends up pissing off the rest of the youkai, who all feel cheated by him. Off on the side, Kuugen explains to Noboru that the binbougami probably became attached and wanted him to get him the reward, but soon finds out that the little god’s misfortune has ruined the potatoes she’s been roasting all night. The next day, Ebisu finds out that his sales haven’t increased, despite the binbougami having already left.

Next Episode:
「お稲荷さま。再び旅行する」 (Oinari-sama. Futatabi Ryokou Suru)
“Oinari-sama. Goes on a Trip Again”

Impressions:
New ending theme this week and boy is it a cute one. “Shiawase no Kotodama” 「シアワセの言霊」, “Power Word of Happiness”, is sung by the seiyuus of the two kitsune siblings plus Kou, and the ending sequence features character designs that look more like the manga (for all the non-super-deformed ones that is). In addition to all the super-deformed synchornized dancing in yukatas, I found the part with Mubyou’s hand puppets dancing to the song ridiculously cute. As for the song itself, it’s a pretty cheerful sounding song as the title suggests and sounds pretty good with Yukana, Hayami Saori, and Takahashi Mikako singing. As I’m already a fan of Yukana and Mikako’s singing from their previous songs, having them paired up from the Saori is just a win-win situation. I don’t think the still screenshots convey the cuteness properly, so I recommend downloading a copy of the new ending or watching it online for yourself.

As for the episode itself, it was fairly light-hearted and didn’t really seem like a start to any sort of an arc. Given how the Shiro one kind of dragged out a bit, I don’t mind how this week was episodic, especially when we get to see more of Ebisu, who I recently mentioned was losing out on screen time to Mubyou. Next week looks like everyone’s going to go on a trip again, and if the preview shots are remotely indicative of what we’re going to see, we might get to see another hot spring episode. Given how the last one was relatively tame, perhaps they’re trying to give us a real fan-service episode now; however, I’m not expecting much seeing as this series’ previews should be taken with a grain of salt.

Tidbits: We got some zettai ryouiki from Misaki this week. Also, Kuugen said, “the culprit is you!” in the preview, which is Katsuragi Yako’s trademark line in Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro.

  1. Aww come on, where’s the Noboru x Kou? Will there ever be one lol? It seems that the manga shows Noboru has an interest on Kou, but in the anime, he doesn’t even show the slightest interest to her. I wonder when Momiji will show up?

  2. Gotta love Sakura’s imaginations, though Noboru and her fit pretty well, though I prefer him to be with Kou, someone reliable like Noboru is what Kou needs (they are the complete opposites) Kou can’t do anything “normal” without Noboru around. Still I am interested on why Momiji seemed to like Noboru.

  3. @mattio: I second that, can you believe that the subbs are still at ep.15? Man 4 episodes behind, I guess this show isn’t that popular to the subbers, unlike Code Geass which can be subbed in mere hours lol. Sometimes even faster than Omni making a complete blog of it.

  4. I think the anime producers made a mistake by not keeping the adorable character designs used for the print media. The designs used in the anime are flat and dull. 🙁

Still, +1 for new ED. 😀

I wonder where Momiji is, though. They wouldn’t reintroduce her in a hot springs episode, would they? >.> I guess not. 🙁

  5. they started airing fake previews during the school festival episode – the start of shirou chan arc.

btw the ending song’s artist is different (is the girl in white yukata momiji?)

  6. Ungas:
Which artist are you referring to? Takahashi Mikako plays the female form of Gyokuyou (a.k.a. Tama) and sings the song along with Yukana (Kuu) and Hayami Saori (Kou).

The girl in the white yukata before the shot of Bekira does look like Momiji though.
