Yamada versus Kanejou, round 1, fight! For Yamada’s sake, let’s be thankful she didn’t choose to do it in the area of music, though I have to admit her recorder version of “Oshiete A to Z” wasn’t half bad. At that point, things pretty much defaulted to the only thing she has going for her — her looks — but they did make it interesting with a speed swimming showdown at least. Between Yamada and Kanejou, I don’t think our nameless female lead really stood a chance against the latter’s westernized swimsuit anyway, regardless of how much she tried to sell it. Aside from giving Kosuda an erection from her semi-slutty display, Yamada officially lost round 1 and it wasn’t due to breast sizes hampering her fluid dynamics either. I can’t say I feel sorry for Yamada either given how she cheated to get a head start, so she definitely deserved Kyouka’s “being ten years too early” insult at the end.

Seeing as Yamada can’t even win when she doesn’t officially have an opponent, I question whether she really has a chance. After her attempt to recruit Chika to help her cause backfired and Kosuda actually invites her to something over the summer, she screws herself over with a fully-booked schedule. I did get a chuckle out of how Yamada still refers to Takeshita as “F-shita” in her notebook, but the real laughs came from the Kosuda’s family camping trip with Miyano’s. With all her attention focused on Kanejou lately, it was pretty hilarious seeing Yamada’s reaction to Mayu slipping under her radar — and potentially Kosuda too

Somehow, things went from silly to ridiculous after Yamada hitched a ride with some guys out for a war in the woods (i.e. paintball). Watching Yamada get caught up in their pace and going trigger-happy was somewhat amusing, but I got more of a kick out of seeing her unload on Kosuda for spending some quality time under the stars with Miyano. Despite the craziness that ensued, I thought Kosuda and Yamada actually had a quality moment together as he took pictures of her for the very first time and talked about how he wanted to show her the stars. Her attempt to pose nude for him was pretty weak and would’ve ruined the mood however, so it’s probably a good thing that Kosuda didn’t notice.

All in all, this episode felt a bit all over the map (in more ways than one), but I thought the starry night sky scene at the very end had a nice feel to it. With the school trip next time, hopefully the two of them will be able to build on that amidst the ongoing battle with Kyouka. If not, it’s still hot spring episode time, so there’s always that to fall back on.

  1. The whole stars thing reminded me of Sora no Mani Mani and I should know, they had episodes of all the constellations and whatnot. Anyways I thought Kosuda really is a nice guy, especially how he was taking starscape shots with his camera to show Yamada when he got back. Can’t wait for next week.

  2. Kosuda seems to say ‘Yamada’ a lot lately. Frankly, it’s quite annoying. The second half, I was like, ‘Yamada, Kick his ass!’ too bad it didn’t happen.

Though, I do quite enjoy this show.

  3. While Yamada’s recorder skill is not bad, but she put her hands on the instrument wrong. You cover upper part holes with your left hand fingers, and lower part ones with you right hand fingers lol.

  4. Nice to see Kosuda is an unknowing romantic as always. I was really glad we were back to Yamada x Kosuda because Kanejou was a boringly standard character. I kinda wish we had gotten to seen a reaction from Chika upon finally seeing the normal boring Kosuda her sister has been after though.

  5. Rather than a shameless ecchi series, this is actually turning out to be a cute romance series masquerading as an ecchi series. Without even realizing it, Yamada has fallen in love with Kosuda. So much so she’s gone straight to his family camp via a hitched ride with paintball enthusiasts to make sure Kosuda doesn’t “cheat” on her. (Ero-gami was quick to point out Kosuda couldn’t technically cheat on her, since they’re not even a couple yet, let alone having sex. )

They say great minds think alike. – Chika wonders why Kanejo wants to compete with her sister whom she thinks is clearly more inferior. While Kanejo rightly judges that Chika is a lolicon magnet, and is puzzled why Yamada doesn’t have guys flocking to her much like Chika does.
