「副会長は王子様!?/AOIとユカイな仲間たち」 (Fuku Kaichou wa Ouji-sama!? / AOI to Yukai na Nakama-tachi)
“The Vice President is a Prince!? / Aoi and The Merry Friends”

This may have been two omake combined into one episode, but I was actually looking forward to it since I enjoyed the Momotaro one. I felt it delivered as well, with Misaki’s improvised act in front of “Prince Takumi” being the highlight. On paper, the first half was devoted to Yukimura’s 7-year-old sister Ruri (Ogura Yui) and her obsession with playing princess make-believe, leading to Usui becoming a prime candidate to be her prince. In reality though it was an excuse to let everyone take their personalities to the extremes, which led to a lot of good times for me. Usui’s reaction to Misaki playing the part his fiancee was priceless, and I was almost floored laughing when he followed up with a line about how he’d drop Ruri just like a prize in a UFO crane game. While Misaki was right about banking on Usui catching onto the change of plans of getting Ruri to respect her brother again, Usui always has his impeccable way of making things difficult for her and enjoyable for us. He was forced to going along with this prince-type date after all, so I was actually on his side when he hopped on the opportunity to have his way with Misaki and declare his love for her.

In pure gag-like fashion, the jokes and lighthearted humor came fast and furious, with Yukimura’s tearful plea to Usui, Kanou’s inability to play the thug part, and Aoi’s haughty attitude about being the stylist genius being some of my other favorite moments. A lot of times, things just kept happening completely out of the blue with more characters joining in the mix, yet the continuous progression made it one fun showing to sit through. “Absurdly over-the-top” was the theme of sorts, so it basically came down to stringing together as many of the comedic moments seen in the normal episodes as coherently as possible. As such, I probably could have made a set of screen capture on goofy super-deformed faces alone — a thought that did cross my mind while preparing the images. Naturally, nothing too profound came from trying to trick Ruri into respecting her brother again, though Yukimura setting her straight with some unexpected scolding wasn’t too bad of a wrap up. Incidentally, this omake also marked the first time that I’ve ever heard someone call Usui by his first name — more specifically, “Takumi-sama” — even though I’ve been referring to him as such in the vast majority of my posts thus far.

The second half was all about Aoi trying to ramp up his online popularity with a promotional video, which was surprisingly linked to the first one to some degree. It was only in the sense that Yukimura, Kanou, and the three idiots didn’t recognize that the Aoi from that previous shenanigans was the very same Internet idol that they were coaxed into helping out, but some tie-in between the two was better than none. Most of the humor didn’t kick in until after Aoi bossed everyone around and used his trap looks to get them to collect all the flower pedals by hand to use again, after which Naoya, Ryuunosuke, and Ikuto’s stupidity stole the show. With their masochistic sides kicking in at the sound of adding the “-sama” suffix to “maid” and their argument over what type of scenario the next shot will entail, they were even able to bring Aoi around as friends who aren’t the least bit fazed by his selfishness. Normally I’d be all over a sweet conclusion such as this, but Aoi is still a trap so no laugh genuine or otherwise is going to change that fact in my eyes. Damn blushing traps!

Next time it looks like we’ll see the arrival of the transfer student seen in the second ending sequence, Shinatani Hinata, who’s apparently Misaki’s childhood friend from elementary school. The episode title suggests that he’s seen as Usui’s rival, which should be interesting since he’s voiced by Abe Atsushi of Kamijou Touma/Kosuda Takashi fame.

  1. This episode was good. Misaki with the silly wig was funny and the 3 idiots imagining Misaki offering them a sweet or a whip was funny as well. She’s up next in saimoe, so lets hope she does well.

  2. One thing that struck me was how colorful this episode was. It was face-paced and there was on-screen text that appeared for basically every shot. The two-short format probably had something to do with that, but it made me rewatch parts all because I couldn’t understand half of what was going on. I liked the Ruri short the best. This show keeps getting too cute for comfort!
