「 天才少女の暴走パニック!」 (Tensai Shōjo no Hōsō Panikku!)
“The Genius Girl’s Wild Panic!”

This was definitely the craziest episode yet, which is certainly saying something. Going from power level radars to super sayain transformations, this episode was a complete throw back to Dragon Ball Z and an… interesting parody of it. The episode even started out as a parallel, with Mio dressed suspiciously similar to Louise of Zero no Tsukaima. I definitely wasn’t expecting this type of randomness, which is more akin to Sora no Otoshimono, from this series. To be honest, I didn’t find the comedy this time around very entertaining, mostly due to the fact that its pure outlandishness felt very out of place here. The one responsible for all this craziness, Hiiragi Noa (Yahagi Sayuri), is certainly not what I was expecting after seeing the preview for this episode, turning out to be a mad scientist rather than a crazy exorcist wannabe, which is what I predicted she would be. Another thing I honestly was not expecting was for Noa to actually develop feelings for Tarou. It seems like every time he helps to solve a girl’s problem they end up falling for him, a bit like a certain spiky haired protagonist.

Speaking of that, it seems that slowly but surely Tarou is building a harem, which currently consists of Yuno, Mio, and now Noa. When I first started this series, I didn’t ping it to be a harem, believing that the only love interests Tarou would have would be Mio and Yuno. That said, I’m not against the idea of a harem, but you’d be hard pressed to convince me that the other members of Tarou’s harem (assuming he triggers more flags) will actually end up being more than comedy relief in comparison to Mio and Yuno, although it wouldn’t be the first time I was wrong about this series. I don’t have anything against harems in general, but it doesn’t seem like on would fit this series well, so I’m hoping that Noa will be the last flag Tarou manages to raise for a while.

Overall, I didn’t find this episode as entertaining as the past three and after watching it I came off feeling dry. The super hero antics really impeded upon my willingness to take Noa’s troubled past seriously, and furthermore they just weren’t very funny to me. I think if the writers had taken a more realistic approach, like they did with Yuno and Mio, I probably would’ve enjoyed Noa’s introduction a lot more. By realistic, of course I mean drama within the confines of an anime. Although, if Noa isn’t meant to be a serious character and actually won’t play a bigger role in the plot, I suppose it’s somewhat acceptable for her introduction to have been this silly.

  1. Well, at the very least, she seems to be a way to get Yuno closer to Tarou if her subtle jealously over the lilac delivery at the end of the episode was any indication. Considering Noa’s much more open and outgoing personality (if shy in her own way like how she was at the end of the episode) compared to Yuno’s own outright fear of men, Yuno probably feels a bit intimidated by Noa now when it comes to Tarou.

And now it looks like Tarou’s incestuous mother and sister will be even more of a trigger in pushing Tarou and Yuno closer together (and getting Tarou probably launched into space until Yuno’s androphobia is cured) if the preview is any indication.

      1. Yeah some lyrics differ, like when they sing the hell version they bridge the gap with “hell-desu” since the other one is “hea-ven”. And the heaven one is more techno based.

And I never expected Tarou to ‘pants’ Mio… XD

  2. I seriously couldn’t stop laughing during this episode. This was just too ridiculous! Noa’s already a fun character that goes nicely with the other psychos in this show! It’s also fun to see her be something of an eyesore to the other two girls.

  3. There are still a couple more complex, after 2 episodes of this series I really got caught into looking for the light novels and find it pretty enjoyable. Good to hear that harems won’t kill the interest in more post, I found this series an unexpected favorite.

  4. This episode was ridiculously funny and full of win, even though there wasn’t much serious elements into it… aside from Noa’s backstory I suppose. Man I waited for the review for ages and slightly disappointed you didn’t enjoy it as much as other people did, Suzuku.

  5. Everytime Tatsukichi gets screentime in his cross-dress ojou-sama mode, I can’t help but wonder what would happen if Taro wasn’t aware of his best friend’s hobby? Lol massive yaoi flag.

  6. I have to side with Suzuku here; the over-the-top, obscure comedy seems a little out of place here. I do prefer the more plot-based side of the show, so I’m hoping it doesn’t follow the same pattern that Mayoi Neko Overrun did (promising first few episodes, then going into a straight slice-of-life comedy).

On the other hand, the antics including Tarou’s mother and sister could make next episode interesting if they aren’t overused, so I’m hoping that’ll revive my good impression of this series.

  7. Hmm… A loli mad scientist is fine too. Looking forward to the next episode with the older sister and mom. Come to think of it, what ever happen to Taro’s dad? Never ever see him once at all.

  8. Hmm reaslitic. MM is a weird work, not only because of its characters. Personally I don’t particularly like realism so I don’t mind this type of antics -loved the episode-, but mixing the two of them probably isn’t a good idea. So am I supposed to take Noa’s story seriously, or is it for the lulz?

Personally, I’d prefer it if they just ignored all the serious stuff and it was this wacky. But if they want to make it more serious and realistic, then they should ignore all this stuff, and even make Tarou more realistic, because an M isn’t like that at all!!

  9. This wasn’t a bad episode, kind of nice to get away from the drama of the past couple. Though not sure how I feel about the completely random plot line. That’s one way to introduce a new character I guess o_O

  10. I finded this episode very entertaining, I couldn’t stop laughing when Torou transformed into a super saiyen. but I must admit that this episode was very strange. But I got a god laugh out of this episode
