「兄と妹のヨコシマな日常」 (Ani to Imouto no Yokoshima na Nichijou)
“A Brother and Sister’s Wicked Days”

The romantic comedy that plays up the incestuous angle without being incest is surprisingly more entertaining than its manga counterpart. I attribute that primarily to Kitamura Eri bringing out all the perverted silliness in Takanashi Nao, along with with relatively high production values on ZECXS’ part. With Inoue Marina as the childhood friend rival Tsuchiura Iroha, who’s slated to arrive next episode, things should get even more out of hand… in a good way. Much like I described in the Winter 2011 Preview, this premiere episode quickly reveals that Nao was adopted after her parents passed away in a car accident, and how she lost her memories prior to be taken in by the Takanashi family. Leading up to that, we’re shown the extremes of her brotherly complex and how she enjoys teasing her perverted older brother Shuusuke (Toyonaga Toshiyuki) and giving him opportunities to take advantage of her. It sounds like a pretty stupid premise, and while the rational side of me agrees with that statement, it serves its purpose for an anime that I’d watch primarily for kicks. If you’re okay with jokes of the sexual variety, then scenes with Shuusuke’s mountain of porn and Nao’s fantasies may just strike a comedic chord. Clearly, this series isn’t striving for a lot of depth much like most comedies don’t, so keeping that in mind will have a direct effect on how much enjoyment you get out of it.

As I’ve already mentioned back in the preview, I’m not a fan of the overly slender character designs with long arms and big hands. Be that as it may, it’s still not enough of a showstopper for me to rule out watching it since they aren’t that bad. After all, if I were to take such a shallow stance with anime character designs, I would’ve never watched Kanon and CLANNAD, both of which feature big wide eyes on stubby faces where their mouths almost meet their lower eyelids, and missed on some really good series. Compared to faces that get much more screen time, I can put up with some long arms without a problem. The humor on the other hand works a lot better animated, as the awkwardness is more prevalent with shaky voices and exaggerated reactions, particularly when we get inside Nao’s sex-ridden mind. That same appeal should be further exubrecated by Iroha next time, who’s just as messed up except there isn’t any sort of incestuous pretense holding her back. Nao’s request to her parents to keep the act with Shuusuke was for her personal brocon excitement, but sort of backfires against her when Iroha leverages it for her own goal of getting into Shuusuke’s pants. Again, it sounds ridiculous because it’s intended to be, which for that very reason, has me looking forward to hearing Marina voice some pretty risqué lines such as offering to help Shuusuke masturbate. Remember when she and Eri had respectable roles? Well, that’s not happening when Iroha and Nao are here to show us the extremes of female perversion. In some ways, their advances are akin to Yamada‘s in B Gata H Kei, so if you have an idea of what that entailed, then you can expect something similar here.

Judging from what I’ve seen, I’m hesitant to say that this series is anywhere remotely close to kiss x sis’ take on the non-blood-related sibling relationship, though it’s easy to see how it shares a lot of similarities. Take out the younger brother Keita and replace him with an older one named Shuusuke who sounds just like Mikado when he’s around Anri and voila, you have a male protagonist who’s trying hard to fight his desires for two girls who don’t make it easy for him. Personally, my plan is to continue following this series since I was amused by seeing the first bit of the manga I read come to life and realized how much better it is. I’d normally hop on covering it regularly since not many people (let alone bloggers) bother to delve into a show of this nature, but I’m pretty keen on cutting back my load this season, so you’ll hear my thoughts on it in the monthly posts we have planned.

  1. Despite the antic of the little sister can be funny at times, I cant help but want to strangle her neck for having the nerve to look for porn in her brother room and want to throw all out except for incest porn. Also when she just went in his room and unpluged the PC power, it just pissed me off.

  2. I think I’m in the minority when I say the art style looks okay. I would even say that I like it. From the preview post, I was sure that I’d have a serious issue with the body proportions – but when everything is said and done I’m fine with it.

Maybe it’s just because Kitamura’s voice is oozing out of the main girl. I don’t like the extra pantsu though. :3

    1. I like the art. It’s just that some people are too picky. It’s good that they adapted it pretty good in terms of the artwork, can’t say anything for the story adaptation though(haven’t watched it :(, read the manga though).

  3. You’re not the only one, I got to really like the character designs and art style as I watched it. Guess I found my slightly perverted romantic comedy for this season; really looking forward to next ep.

Also, if Shuusuke didn’t save at multiple points of the game then its his own fault.

Is there a hidden message behind those bird mosaics?

  4. My first thought when seeing the female character designs was “Man, these girls need to get some sleep. Look at the bags under their eyes! Also, eat something, they’re like twigs!”

    1. HAHA I know right? It’s that extra line under their eyes. (though you can’t see them when they’re all zoomed out like in the screep caps)

Their “battered look” bothered me soooo much. D: Though the show itself was pretty funny.

Also THOSE LINES ON THEIR ARMS WHYYY
I’m glad they wear shoulder covering clothes most of the time.

      1. I just had a disturbing thought:

What if the protagonist beats them and deprives them of sleep and food off screen?! That’s why the OP and ED have no variety!!! And why they look bruised in parts of the ED!

  5. I’m glad you gave this series an introduction. I don’t know the source material but judging from this one ep. This is going to be an entertaining show with crazy antics/situations.

  6. Maybe I’m reading too much into this, but the girl in Shuusuke’s eroge is voiced by MAKO, who is also the voice of aspiring eroge seiyuu Kanna in Koe de Oshigoto. Reference or coincidence?

      1. No, thats not what I meant. Judging from your reply I guess you don’t know about Koe de Oshigoto? It’s a manga/anime about a girl who starts working as an eroge seiyuu at her sister’s company. Said girl is also voiced by MAKO. Considering that MAKO really didn’t have a lot of roles in her career, despite having her first lead role in 2005, I thought it was a bit odd for her to be voicing a character in an eroge of all things, especially since the Koe de Oshigoto OVAs are currently being released.

But again, I might be reading too much into this.

  7. I’m gonna pass on this series. I’m tired of these incest tease series’s or in Yosuga No Sora there was no tease. It ended up being the real thing. These kinds of series are probably why the new anime law was passed in the 1st place.

  8. pretty good for a first ep. long limbs will only bother you at first, but it will eventually grow on you as you watch it. thanks for introducing this series to us Divine. another one for the winter season. (this + KNT2 + IS)

  9. The manga sorta sickened me (stopped reading somewhere after the childhood friend/nutter showed up), so I doubt the anime will be my thing.

I remember this ep from the manga, though … funniest character was the dad when he decided to ‘confiscate’ his son’s porn (no idea if the anime showed that bit or not)

  10. omg i comment on the wrong place. anyway
i want my books to be pilled up like that.
“Blood related relation is nice but it doesnt have any future” wonder if the author of ore no imouto hears this.
i would really laugh if they have the same director.

    1. The secret is about knowing how to manipulate time-space. According to Nagato and Asahina, time space is merely different patches of “time” on top of each other.
After learning the secrets to travel through time (and space), I learned the secret of how one can force their hands through their monitor and into 2d.

From there it gets real simple.

  11. I can’t quite overlooked the weird character design in a fanservice show. If it is any other genre it would be okay although I still wouldn’t like it. (I check the manga just to see if the character designs are similar. It looks much better in the manga for some reasons… I could even call the sister ‘cute’ even though I still wouldn’t find her very sexually appealing.)

    Kaitune
  12. Wow these character designs are horrendous, even for anime.

Also, she’s not really his sister? Dropped. Even in hentais they do this. Why? It like destroys half the sexiness and tension

    Mondd
  13. Sry, not my Type. “My Sister can’t be that cute” Was funny at beginning, then the Mood began to change.. Here is the beginning not even funny. To much Bro con Jokes…

or “my Sister can’t be that cute” from other side..

  14. Blog this for the love of imouto. I thought this anime won’t get on my list but they did justice to its animation as good as possible, this can be a good past time until the Ore no Imouto real ending arc.
