It’s hard to say if Zazie was planning to bait Cabernet by unloading all his heart into Jeel, but the latter seemed to think so.

「悪意でなく、憎悪でなく」 (Akui de Naku, Zouo de Naku)
“Without Malice or Hatred”

For two guys driven by hatred, I loved the level of respect between Zazie and Jeel when they were in agreement that they can’t get along and had to fight one another. It put an interesting spin on what was in reality two victims who shouldn’t be fighting in the first place, but had to due to the upper echelons in Amberground doing as they please. Be that as it may, it wasn’t terribly sad to see Jeel get killed by Garrard right after Zazie managed to get through to him. I was more surprised by the implication behind it, in that Garrard and Valentine have gone beyond the point of no returns in terms of being able to redeem themselves in the future.

While they’ve probably already killed numerous people on a whim already, getting visual confirmation of one instance changes the overall viewer perception of their characters. We’ll always have Jeel’s death to look back upon when the story reaches the point where Garrard and Valentine’s fates are decided, meaning it’s highly unlikely they’ll turn a new leaf now.

The projection of one’s memories for all to see. Now if only such a thing existed in the real world to clear up all misunderstandings.

Getting a little cozy with Jeel, are we Zazie?

Off the cliff and onto Wasiolka. “It’s a safe.”

This must be Tegami Bachi’s take on “peace through understanding”.

Is this the real reason Gauche left Gymnopedies behind? It might be time to retire Nocturne #12.

After hearing a bit more of Lawrence’s explanation, I’m more okay with the idea that Lag’s angry on some subconscious level that he’s not fully aware of himself. Talk about possibly recruiting him as a Marauder I wasn’t expecting, but the mere mention of it did have me wondering if Lag will eventually turn on the Amberground government itself. It sounds like a very probable possibility, yet one I hadn’t really considered up until now. If Lag did learn the truth behind the artificial sun and exactly what happened to his mother, it’s hard to imagine he’ll continuing delivering letters as a Bee. Following in Gauche’s footsteps and joining Reverse though? That seems a bit far-fetched given how it means abandoning all his friends back in Yuusari. I honestly don’t know which direction this series will take, and that in itself makes it all the more entertaining to watch.

As for Lag’s shindan, I like how he got it back this very next episode like I was hoping, rather than dragging it out and making it the focus for the rest of the anime. However, I’m admittedly confused as to why he needed the spirit amber from Gauche’s Gymnopedies to fire it. It left me wondering if Gauche foresaw that Lag’s beliefs would be shaken up after he betrayed him, and left the gun behind for him knowing that he’ll need it. For now, that’s definitely one aspect I’d like to see some clarification on, as well as where everyone disappeared off to after lag hit Cabernet and caused it to retreat underground. I gather it’s not the last we’ve seen of the giant Gaichuu.

A feint shot on Gauche that goes straight for Cabernet.

Even with his shindan back, Lag looks just as lost as before.

Connor returns to Lament and pays his respect to Sunny and the others sacrificed for Reverse’s cause. This might be a sad episode.

  1. What makes this difficult is that the govt. is doing some evil shit with their experiments and Lag is really backing the wrong side. Reverse is also doing some evil and mean stuff too so its hard to identify who the good guys really are and who the bad guys are when both sides of the conflict are covered in stink.

    1. I eventually think he’ll take his own side; not joining Reverse, but leaving his job as a Letter Bee. Lag’s sense of morality is too strong for him to ignore the atrocities of Reverse and the Akatsuki government.

  2. Hmm… interesting, I really look forward to see how this story is going to unfold. It always interests me when an anime is unpredictable in terms of what will happen next (mainly because I’m sick of guessing what will happen in an anime and being right all the way through making the anime a virtual waste of my time).
