「きろぐらむ – Attention to Your Weight」 (Kiroguramu)
“Kilogram – Attention to Your Weight”

Tohru is officially the master at trolling. I suppose her methods would be a little more discrete if you were to compare her to a master troller like Mai, but hey, it still works pretty well. Since the first episode, Yuuko has usually been the one on the receiving end of Tohru’s skills and for good reason. I’d call it the curse you get when you’re the definition of a perfect girl, who has a ton of good qualities. Sure, Tohru might attack Yuuko more often just because she might be a little jealous about her figure and it’s ability to possibly grab the attention of a certain person but can you really blame her? Plus, could you imagine Tohru with Yuuko’s figure trying to steal Run’s attention? But after pushing past all the trolling, it’s pretty amazing how close to reality this show hits for me. I don’t know if you knew this, but girls love to smack/feel each other’s boobs for the hell of it. Be it from jealously, joking around, or just because they’re bored — it really does happen.

But with the show shifting focus to Nagi and her weight complex, it was great to watch Tohru change gears and troll someone else in a totally different way. I don’t know how she manages to do it, but the way Tohru manages to accurately read the mood and act upon it is a skill I’d bet most people would kill to have. Instead of going for that intimidation tactic, I love how she managed to infiltrate Nagi’s mind and got her to do the one thing she didn’t want to do. Sure Nagi is trying her best to keep her new diet a secret, especially with temptation all around her, but I don’t think she should have let her guard down with Tohru. That little smirk of hers when she convinced Nagi to talk to Yuuko about her figure had me cracking up inside. While Nagi probably didn’t see it coming, I bet Tohru saw the whole thing coming from a mile away.

Other highlights for this episode were probably the pool cleaning scene that was full of insert song awesomeness with an added bonus of Yuuko’s swimsuit showing through her wet shirt, Yutaka’s friend Miho the Remote’s super foot-stomp to control Yutaka’s craziness, and Tohru’s tiny body not even able to keep her socks on right. With that last one, it was hilarious how Tohru took her own problem and somehow spun it to become Nagi’s. I nearly busted a gut when Nagi freaked out after hearing Tohru say she wanted to become fatter, because I would have had said the exact same thing.

Besides still being totally clueless about where Miho and Yutaka’s fondness for Tohru comes from, every episode of this shows seems to get that much better. With some sort of beach/pool episode in the works for next week, I can only imagine that more of Nagi’s weight complex will leak out and Tohru will hopefully capitalize on it.

P.S. I love Tohru.

      1. Same…

This is a great show that snuck out of nowhere to be one of the consistanly funny shows this season. Perhaps even better then Nichijou. Nichijou is really funny too, can’t decide which show I like better.

      2. It’s a tough decision between Nichijou and A-Channel for me. Nichijou’s jokes, for me at least, seem to hit me harder and cause me to laugh pretty loud not matter what time at night it is. I actually had my upstairs neighbor tell me to be quieter last weekend because I woke them at 4am because of my apparently obnoxious laughing while watching episode 4 of Nichijou.

While A-Channel makes me laugh, but not like Nichijou pulls off at times and def not at insanely late(or early) hours. Lol..

  1. I was amazed on how Tooru can keep a straight face doing all that. But now that there’s this, at least we know that she’s not as sadistic…

one thing though, WHY is she still wearing her cardigan even now? (yes I know she said that she does not want to show her hands, but i can’t shake off the hunch that there’s something else…)

  2. isnt it kinda already obvious why tohru would have a fanbase? do we need a reason to love her?

that scene with tohru watching run having fun cleaning the pool was pretty sweet with that comment “paradise”.

  3. A pity the girls were wearing sukumizus under their PE uniform when they got wet. :p

Apart from the pool scene, this is certainly a Nagi episode, and I’m getting hints of Yuuko x Nagi yuri near the end, when Yuuko commented on how cute Nagi already is without dieting. 😀

BTW, I only just noticed that Tohru is voiced by the same seiyuu that did Madoka, the Puella Magi Goddess of Mercy. Yuuki Aoi sounded completely different in those two roles, her voice range is probably as diverse as Tomatsu Haruka and Toyosaki Aki, who can surprise you with new voices you’d never knew it was them. Definitely a newcomer to watch.

PS Anyone want to cuddle Tohru’s head – Yutaka-style? 🙂

  4. This show is easily my favorite this season. This episode especially seemed to me like it was a tamer version of the best parts of Mitsudomoe. Creepy classmates, funny/random sound effects, and the interactions are all amazing.

  5. lmao Tohru’s name was littered all over each paragraph. I know the feeling though. I’m in sync with Yutaka. Tohru looks great even with a wardrobe malfunction! Next episode, we even get to see her in that amazing white frilly top with short-shorts! That’s all that matters

  6. Please tell me that I’m not the only one who keeps seeing Yuuko as being a dead ringer of Mio. Having Tsumugi’s seiyuu voicing her doesn’t help dispel that too much either.

  7. I’m in love with Kotobuki, Minako (Yuuko)’s Kansai accent!!! it’s just soo cute!!
I can play the ending sequence (when Yuuko is complimenting Nagi) for hours and still not get bored.
    MORE YUUKO!!!! 😀

    1. Lol! Same here I just love that part where she was complimenting Nagi. The accent is just really awesome for some reason. Somehow reminds me of Konoka from Negima because didn’t she have that accent too?

Anyway Nagi blushing was funny too since I didn’t expect that.

  8. Miho looks like Menma form Ano Hana…

Tohru’s socks falling down was pretty cute, but Nagi was cuter this episode.I love how Nagi felt relieved when Run and Yuuko said their swimsuits were getting smaller.

  9. Ah Nagi…. *is lost in thought, like Ibuki Fuuko and her Starfish*
Snaps back to reality, oh. ^^;.
Tohru has her awesomeness, but Nagi is my fave. I seem to prefer tsukkomi chara: Kagami, Mio and Azunyan, Nagi. Ah, fun series ^_^.

  10. Kinda wierd that it’s usually chicks with big boobs who worry about weight probs. (okay, most of the anime girls do, but especially the big breasted ones. e.g. Sakura in Fate/Stay Night, Mikoto in School Rumble, etc.) Didn’t they calculate the weight of their boobs is probably adding to their “real weight”?

  11. Finally realized that Japanese bra sizes are different than American ones… I’ve been so confused this whole time as to how Yuuko could possibly be an E in HIGH SCHOOL. Phew, that’s a relief. I really should have googled that a long time ago.
Anyway, about the episode… I really like Nagi, especially when she gets all flustered like that. She’s cool. 🙂

  12. I see in the preview that Tooru/Tohru has gone for the frills on the top smart choice considering her chest size….can you believe that I’ve used ouran logic in real life….
