「2年B組長瀬先生」 (Ninen B-gumi Nagase-Sensei)
“Year 2 Class B Nagase-Sensei”

Time to start another capture, and this time it’s student teacher Nagase Jun. To start off, I came into this thinking that Keima would have to capture a real teacher; something that I think would have been pretty interesting to watch. Looking past the inherent problems with dating your teacher, it would have made for a some interesting situations and a great arc right?!

Instead, Nagase ends up being a young student teacher, something that in theory sounds a bit more socially acceptable since their isn’t a huge age gap to deal with. Did I mention that Toyosaki Aki is also voicing her? Even though she’s also voicing Nako in Hanasaku Iroha and Young Popo in Anohana, I was surprised that I couldn’t figure it out at first. It goes to show you how versatile her voice ends up being! That or I’m still not that good at pointing out popular seiyuus.

Getting back on topic, it’s so amazing how Manglobe is really doing things differently this time around. After watching how they handled Chihiro’s arc and going off of how the comments about how an unimpressive arc in the manga became an amazing one in the anime, I was pumped to see how the last arc of the season would play out. A cute student teacher who’s idol is a pro wrestler named Jumbo, totally interesting right? But combine that with some mysterious ability to bewitch Keima and you have the beginning of an interesting arc.

I don’t think Keima has been more embarrassed than he was during the end of this week’s episode. Not only are things not even remotely going his way, but I’m really curious about how he’s going to capture a student teacher. Already commenting about how it’s a long and tedious process with little return, it’s hard to see the incentive from Keima’s point of view. Plus, there seems to be some deep and dark secret in Nagase’s past — something serious enough that it created a hole in her heart large enough for a loose soul to enter it.

Even though this may be just the beginning last capture of the season, I hope that it keeps this strong note that it started on. Seeing how Keima can’t end this quickly since he’s been put into the student zone, I’m think I’m going to enjoy watching him try to claw his way out. Just like how Chihiro’s capture shook up the normal capture strategy, I hope that this one manages to do something just as innovative. If I were to make any guesses, it seems that both Keima and Nagase share some common values about how they view reality. And for a guy who hates reality, I’m sure that Nagase’s ideals over reality outlook grabbed his attention.

  1. I didn’t really enjoy the Nagase arc through the manga, but I keep my hopes up for the adaptation. This arc is coming off the high of the last arc, which is my personal favourite, for both the manga and the anime.

  2. How on earth can a soft voiced seiyuu Toyosaki Aki voice Popo from Anohana!? It is true I just confirmed it on the site, but HOW did they do it? I mean, make the voice sound so masculine?

  3. You would have been better off saying she was Yui from K-On, Tomo from Seikon No Quazar, or Peke from To Love Ru and folks would recognize her voice also. Especially as Yui.

    1. Aki’s well known enough amongst fans that most of us know her name and who she is. But like inuyasha said her voicing here is a surprise but Aki’s ability of changing her voice subtly like that is something I’ve always like about her acting.

  4. Jun, in my opinion, is the best looking of all the targets (not cutest, just best looking) so I’ve been looking forward to this arc for a long time. Still her personality will come out soon and it’s kind of tough to handle when it does. The episode was a nice change of pace and loved that little theme they had playing throughout which was awesome. But my body was not ready for that Elsie preview…

  5. Not sure if you people noticed but just before she got …..possessed? by the soul i think she said this time! which implies shes tried to do the same thing (following her values and beliefs) before but failed!! possible back story!!

i agree she is definitely the best looking of the bunch….not the cutest that definitely goes to shiori but still

  6. The only thing I could think of during that scene where she got possessed by the runaway soul is how big her boobs looked.

I kinda thought I’d have a different reaction upon seeing it happen, but instead, I found myself blurting out the word “Boobs!”

I wonder what this says about me.

  7. I was thinking the same thing about the situation Keima could possibly get stuck in if he were to talk with her on school grounds. Talking with a teacher outside of school really does make them see you as an equal individual instead of being a student. It’s an awkward but true thing. Keima is too pro.

But Nagase sensei is proer! So pretty~!

  8. I caught myself shouting at Keima to let the hot 21 year old catch him. Sometimes watching this show is frustrating.
The best part of this episode was the epic 70’s anime soundtrack that played whenever Nagase got fired up. Another highlight was that the studentbody’s reaction to the new teacher was basically “She is so hot and she leaves in two weeks, let’s persue her!”. Looks like Keima has competition.
P.S. Thinking of Nagase as Yui-sensei makes this so much better.
