「夢のおとしまえ」 (Yume no Otoshimae)
“Compensation for the Dream”

I didn’t know how P.A. Works would bring things together but when a brilliant studio hunkers down and starts gathering all the pieces they scattered back together, I can see a brilliant ending across the horizon. But along the way, I’m expecting there to be some rough and bumpy moments — moments so rough that I’m going to bleed my tear ducts dry.

It still surprises me how well Ko was just reintegrated back into the story. Having been missing for nearly 90% of all the episodes that have aired thus far, I loved just how natural it felt watching him just appear out of nowhere. But even better than just reappearing, it’s quite touching to finally get a clear answer on where Ko’s intentions lie.

The hurdles that are involved with a long distance relationship still boggle my mind when I think about it. Especially when you know that you won’t be able to have that physical contact to reassure yourself that everything will be all right. But to see that Ko’s managed to stay strong and is still willing to wait for Ohana’s answer says a lot about his character. If you take a second to think how fickle emotions can be, it’s like Ko has nerves of steel or something.

I was also loving all the Aunt and Niece moments between Takako and Ohana. It’s a little strange to think about how they were enemies just a few months ago and now they’re related by law. Awkward feelings aside, I’m glad that Takako has turned out to be a pretty reliable person when the time calls for it. As much as her engrish bothers me, her “Never Give Up!” and amazing takedown on Tetsuo was quite superb.

So here’s what I can see for the future. I don’t think there are any problems left other than Ohana’s relationship and figuring out how to save Kissusio. Seeing how the episode ended right when Ohana and Ko made eye contact as the sun started peeking from the clouds, I’m hoping for something good to happen between to the two next week. However, next week’s episode title leads me to believe that Okami will be the main focus of the episode. This would be fine and dandy, except I’d like for this one-sided love to finally blossom into a true relationship!

  1. The reason why Ko refused to drink coffee was amazing! Oh my goodness that’s dedication and patience right there.

Takako shouting killer was fun to see too. It made me squeal with laughter for some reason ^^”

  2. There’s some interesting moments this episode. Ohana bonding with her new aunt and Ko meeting up with Ohana’s mom. The former was pretty meh, but is nice to see Ko again especially the whole dramatic cliffhanger. Its nice to be excited for the show again.

“I’m not about to watch a porn with you”. That line just cracked me up. For a minute there, I thought Ko might be sexually harrased by her.

  3. Despite all the cool factors throw his way, I still hate Ko with a passion. :/

And I hope Okami-san won’t end up like the grandma in Summer Wars, given the states she’s in the next episode preview… I wonder what it means by Final Boss. For Enishi? For Ohana? For Takako?

  4. It is amazing how the studio managed to bring absent character back into the story (Ko-chan) and unlikeable, hard-nosed businesswoman (Takako) finds the perfect opportunity to prove her worth to Kisuiso… and surprisingly befriend Ohana.
Also bonus comic points for “MILF meets her daughters BF” scenes between Satsuki and Ko-chan… I almost fell off the chair when she asked if he was afraid she will turn some porn on… and then again when he told her she was the most beautiful of all…, his friends mom’s. Talk about roundabout compliment!
Also it takes some moments from back episodes to remeber for us (Minchi tasting the spinach that she hates – remeber the Ohana’s penalty? And the movie test shots…)

  5. the lights lighting up reminds me about the bon bori ( <— is that what its called i forget) festival lights …i find all the major bits in this show is when the lights light up =__= its like look for it…light light up yep this is a important bit!

  6. Perhaps I’m not as romantic as you Takaii, but from an objective/cynical point of view, it’s only been less than a year or so since Ohana moved out of Tokyo, not to mention both Ko and Ohana are in the same darn country the size of California. So of course it’s plausible that Ko still decided to stake out and wait and see what happens.

If it’s more than 3 years and nothing comes out of it, somehow I doubt it. So this could be Ohana’s last chance.

    1. Honestly I do kind of get it. Even if its only been six months, with little to no physical contact you can start feeling really distant from the other person and your feelings for them may numb.

1 year is already pushing it, 3 years is just ridiculous…unless you’re in an unrealistic asian drama.

  7. Nice episode. The end is near. Don’t see why everything Ko or anybody else does seem to become such a big deal around here XD . I don’t see what they do as anything unusual. This story started when they are in high school and they are still in high school. Only about one year has passed (or less? I think?). Few if any of the characters have really changed throughout this anime. The thing that has changed is the situations and relationships between the characters. Which is pretty impressive in my opinion, for the short amount of time that has pass. Well, there are not that many episodes left, and we can finally say goodbye. Next up will be a new season of anime, with a new set of shows for us to love/hate/gripe/etc.

Next season is going to come soon, is probably the best news I can get from this anime. It’s just sad that this anime turn out to be so bland(yes, you are bland Kou) when it has such a great potential in it.

  8. The anime finally reach the arc we all wanted soooo badly from the beginning of the season. I can safely say that I love this episode with although there are some thing happen a bit too ideal for my taste(like how easily they found the person conned Takako) but still bearable.

My only concern now is can I safely say this is a good anime? Because in my opinion all the side character arc should not be put into this anime. I felt that a great deal of potential is lost here.

    1. Well, it could have turned out worst. After watching the first episode, I was tempted to drop this right away since I suspected it was either going to be just bland or really frustrating to watch. It turned out to be mostly just bland for me. If it went the other direction, it might have become more like that penguin show, but without the penguins (I would have dropped it in no time). Maybe this would have been more appreciated as a J-Drama series or something, but I found it entertaining enough to watch it till the end (though I did decide to stop watching it midway for a couple of episodes before picking it up again).

      1. Penguin show without penguin. That’s funny. Been some times since I last watch PenguinDrum. Might catch up when and if I found the time.

For Hanasaku, only a super duper ending could save this anime from my “watch once and forget” list.

        lkaze
      2. @lkaze well I’m thinking of dropping the penguin if the next episode doesn’t have anything compelling to continue to watch. Would be good too, I get more time for next season’s anime.

  9. coming from my comment in LiA…

currently I felt that the storylines are starting to merge together, with Ohana’s newly minted au- I mean ‘big sister’ Takako shining off the Shijima women’s spirit in pursuit of that producer…

…and with some time to mull over, it seems that almost everyone’s enthusiasm was misplaced in the beginning now has shifted into their proper place (Sui and Beanman are the exception…) and I think we’re seeing Ohana’s character finish rebuilding…

@ Takaii: they were streetlights, not the sun…

  10. I don’t why people keep saying Ko is bland, he might not have a crazily exciting personality but I find his scenes/episodes and his interactions with Ohana the most memorable parts of the series. They’re the only parts worth re-watching for me.

I kind of liked how they made use of the boring side character arcs, yeah they’re still boring but at least the have some sort of purpose in the final arc and aren’t completely plonked there for filler space.

Any yeah Sui looks like she’s going to die or at least get really sick/exhausted.

  11. Wow, the bridge scene… This is really one of the best anime I’ve watched in years. And I’ve been watching anime since I was 4 years old. Watched stuffs like the Golden Match warrior, the UC Gundam-s, the earliest Gainax and Studio-C stuffs (before they were even formed; those producers/directors were active already).

Ohana’s original, it’s fun, it’s life-inspiring. It reminds me of some classic American films, but without the bullshit, sexual implications, and violence. Two thumbs up.

    1. Actually, it was the golden lighter warrior, or as wiki says, “Golden_Warrior_Gold_Lightan”… And that ROBOFEST anime, with short films from every cutting edge director back in the 80s, I watched it on LD (if you know what I’m talking about, Laserdisc, huge DVD with less compression). The quality of that film-mesh was WOW.

I’m saying Ohana compares to them, but this certainly is collectible.

  12. I really enjoyed this episode. For me, this show hasn’t been as great as people are saying but it’s still good. It was nice seeing the plots come together but I’m still expecting more. Looking forward to the next episode and some confrontations.
