「中多紗江 前編 ウタガイ」 (Nakata Sae Zenpen – Utagai)
“Nakata Sae, First Chapter – Uncertainty”

The writers had me going for a moment with the possibility of a “real” relationship problem in Sae’s arc, but they let that chance slip away by playing up Junichi’s uncertainty a wee bit more than it probably needed to be. I actually would’ve liked getting strung on until the very end with Sae’s puppy marriage meeting, as having something get in between Junichi’s relationship worked wonders in Tsukasa’s arc. But evidently, I seem to be fishing for a little more conflict in this sequel than I’ll likely see, despite the fact that this newly improved, extremely popular, and much more sociable Sae looked like she was up for the challenge.

Given the direction this episode was headed, I’ll admit that I was anticipating a reversal of dependability in Junichi and Sae’s relationship to be the main point of interest, so I do feel like that the writers pulled a quick one on me by using this first of two episodes to reconfirm their feelings for one another in preparation for the real conflict to come. At the same time, I’m kind of impressed by how well the material this week worked as a standalone episode, seeing as I originally figured that two-episode arcs would be too brief. What surprised me the most though was how I wasn’t looking forward to Sae’s arc whatsoever and it proved to be rather cute in a lot of ways. I didn’t learn my lesson from the first season it would seem, as Sae continues to make a case for herself about how it’s the soft-spoken and timid girls that more guys should be more concerned about.

With the way that this episode sidestepped the perverted Junichi “landmine” for the most part, I’m actually looking forward to the possibility that it’ll go off with the Founder’s Festival stuff next time. It’s been a while since I watched Sae’s original arc — 1.5 years to be exact — so I wouldn’t mind a healthy dose of some teacher/student role play just for nostalgia sake. It’s just one aspect of their relationship that I’ve come to remember it by. That’s not to say it has to get as kinky as before though.

  1. gonna get hate for this >:) but sae x junichi is the only pairing that are so boring they needed to add in excessive amount of narration… doesnt stop her from being cute i guess.

“Tachibana Junichi. From now on, your world will change completely. You are now a human who has finally acquired a girlfriend. You have become a boyfriend.”

“Rejoice, young man. Your “wish” will finally be granted.”

So this is what Assasin’s master was doing for a living while waiting for the 2nd season of Fate/Zero. XD

  3. I’ll admit it. I skipped Kaoru’s arc because I couldn’t find the motivation to see it. But I had to return and watch Sae’s arc. Awesome.

I loved Tsukasa’s arc. I loved Ai’s arc. I enjoyed Rihoko’s arc. Kaoru and Morishima-senpai? I’ll probably end up dragging watching them. Not really interested.

  4. I was looking forward to this arc…….then the narrator chimed in. Again? Really?! Do we need that? Is it supposed to be funny?

Personally, I don’t like the narration thing and I think it takes away from the story as a whole. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

–and yes, a wild Risa appeared – good eye.
