Quite a weird title for an introduction post I know, but I thought it’d be nice to use a line from Stereoman, a song by ELLEGARDEN and also the name I’ll be using here on Random Curiosity, so hello everyone, Stereoman is now a part of RC!

So why did I throw myself into this? – Simple, I love this site. I’ve been following this blog since 2006, making this site one of my daily visits; however, I haven’t really written much in the comments section. I’ve also been around the IRC channel as a quiet stalker.

When Divine decided to bring in some new writers, I felt like I just had to apply. To be able to contribute to one of my favourite sites pleases me very much and I hope my writing will appeal to you.

You won’t have to wait for the Spring shows to see some of my posts because I’ll be covering the remaining episodes of Senki Zesshou Symphogear starting with the 10th episode.

As for my taste in anime, it’s quite diverse. I usually watch 15 shows every season even though I try to convince myself to watch less. My favourite shows are mostly shounen and josei but I do watch a lot of shoujo and seinen too. You can check out my anime list to find out more about my preferences.

My history with anime goes all the way back to my childhood before I entered school. My parents both have jobs that keep them busy so I grew up with a nanny. She usually brought me video tapes containing various cartoons, one of them being a show called Candy Candy and another one called Sailor Moon, the latter being a show which I think all of you know. However, I wasn’t familiar with the term ‘anime’ until I entered junior high. Since then I’ve been watching anime regularly in Japanese (I used to watch it dubbed).

Looking at the other writers’ introduction posts, I feel like I should write something about myself. I’m so bad at this! Well, I’m a student with a lot of free time, freelancing entrepreneur, vegetarian and I love to collect cacti, read manga, and play video and board games.

Writing these kinds of posts isn’t really my forte but I hope you’ll get to know me better through my insights from my future anime entries.

  1. Welcome!~ Looking at your anime list, you must be a fan of Studio Ghibli. x3 (I’ve only recently started getting into those films; I just recently watched Princess Mononoke and loved it. ;P)

I look forward to your posts. 🙂 And good luck!

  2. Welcome! Well, you’ve been reading around here longer than I’ve been here, so it sounds a little strange to me. ^_^;

And in the spirit and tradition of Random Curiosity, I say to you…

    Yoroshiku ne, Stereoman.

  3. Welcome! I’ll enjoy reading your submissions on the shows I watch. Like you, I’ve been a longtime randomc viewer, and I understand your desire to contribute despite not being very active in comments and just lurking in the irc.

  4. Haha this was unexpected! Didn’t know you were going to be one of the new writers on RC. I’m Pyro from the Bacon group and I’m definitely looking forward to your posts. 🙂

    1. Thanks!

I like playing chess and Monopoly and other classic board games like that. My favorite video game series is Assassin’s Creed. These are just my favorites; I play a lot more than these. :]

  6. I’m surprised no one commented on Stereoman’s collection of various cacti, really interested about it now, do tell us more ^^ oh and thanks for picking up Symphogear can’t wait!

    1. Haha, I’m glad you asked.
I have 15 of them at the moment. Most of them are from IKEA. I’ve been collecting them since I was a kid and the largest amount of cacti I’ve had at the same time is 34. I think that was 2 years ago.

My room is very open, full of space so I made it into a habit to fill empty spaces out with small plants and cacti are easy to maintain. So, that’s the main reason I started this collection. :]

I’m looking forward to blogging Symphogear!

  7. I also used to watch anime dubbed before discovering subbed versions on the Youtube. English dubbed anime is now punishment for my ears.

Anyways, eagerly looking forward to your posts.

    1. Thank you!

      1. My impression of Symphogear so far is good. It’s not one of my favorites this season but I like it. There is always something going on and the characters are easy to like. I don’t have a very solid opinion of this show because it is hard to see where things are going so all I can say for now is that it’s enjoyable and keeps my interest up.

      2. I haven’t read much about the upcoming shows so I know very little about them. Fate/Zero’s cliffhanger ending last season makes the second part of the show a highly anticipated one for me. I guess a good answer for this question is all the sequels because I know nothing of the “new” shows.

I hope these answers will do. :]

    1. Thanks! I’m glad to be here.

Favorite of the main cast? Hmm, I don’t know really. Didn’t give it much thought but I’ll say Nana Mizuki for now because I like her songs more than the others’.

  8. Welcome! Just a quick question since no one seems to have asked yet:

What are you studying as right now? I have the notion that students are bogged down to death with project work / exams / assignments etc. (Well at least that is the case down here)

Wonders if the remaining 6 are female

    1. Thank you!

I’m studying various courses in college. Most of them involve graphic design such as Photoshop, web design and graphic communication/media/commercials. I work as a photographer so these courses come in handy. :]
      I also study ecology but that’s a snail-paced course.

Even though I study many courses, I don’t have exams very often and most of my courses are online so I don’t have to visit my campus more than a few days/month.

    1. I’ve heard many people say that it’s a good show. I didn’t enjoy the way things were going after a few episodes. I put the show on hold for a long time and after a while, I knew I wouldn’t watch it anymore so I dropped it. I might give it a second chance later but not for now. :]

  9. Welcome! Although I love the original writers, I am always excited to read new opinions and hear from new people! It’s so much fun to see these intro posts and then to see slowly, over time, the personality of those writers through the anime’s they watch and the comments they post. I will look forward to seeing what you write each week! 🙂

      1. I answered to a similar question a bit earlier today so I’ll just copy/paste my answer.

      1. Usually we are Moondoggie.. sometimes that channel is busy and sometimes it’s not. Don’t be surprise if no body is talking (it gets really quite sometimes). Divine idles there all the time too. The only writer that rarely goes there is Enzo. If you see him in IRC don’t hesitate to throw a Masterball.. :p

    1. I’m very sorry but I don’t watch shounen ai/yaoi shows. There are yaoi titles on my anime list because I had a deal with a friend a while ago. She’d watch 3 of my favorite shows and vice versa. I always keep my promises so I watched 3 of them but none of them appealed to me.
      I’m sorry!
But I did enjoy No.6 because of its plot. :] And I’m sure that show was covered here on RC.

  10. Welcome to RC^^ I’m following this site for years but just realise I never wrote a comment in all this years. Man I must be shy, hope you will have fun here STEREOMAN.

  11. You are one lucky person to have a nanny bring anime for you! For me, it was Chucky ._. not fair. Other than that welcome aboard. I look forward to you blogging SZS 😀

  13. Hey Stereoman, What’s your favourite currently showing anime? I’m guessing.. Ano Matsu or Chihayafuru, am I right?

anyways, welcome. I like diverse tastes, but especially obscure tastes. I’m hoping one of you will bring it.

    Stöt
    1. Hello Stöt!
My all time favorite show is Natsume Yuujinchou, so for the current season, my favorite is Natsume Yuujinchou Shi. But beside that one I also enjoy the shows you mentioned and Another. And out of the longer showers, my favorite one is FAIRY TAIL. :]

      Stereoman
      1. Welcome to RandomC, Stereoman! Looking forward to your posts. (^^,) Btw, by any chance, are you gonna put some posts about Fairy Tail, manga or anime, at least time by time? Anyway, congratulations on being one of the new bloggers here! =)

  14. Looking forward to reading your posts, Stereoman
You must be a good person, all cacti lovers are 😉
What happened to the Random Curiosity tradition of ending the introduction post with “yoroshiku”?

    Seishun Otoko
    1. Thank you, my fellow cacti friend. :]
I don’t think verdant and unlisted added the “yoroshiku” at the end either. As for myself, I didn’t think of that while writing this entry.

      Stereoman
    1. Nice to meet you too, Cybersteel!
I don’t carry a notebook but I usually have Notepad opened up in case I need to take notes. I’m assuming you’re talking about notes for anime blogging.

  15. I’m gonna devour your next few posts and evaluate your worthiness as a new blogger on RC. I’ve got my eye on you…

Nah, just messing with you. XD
Congrats on getting the position! I’m hoping to see great blogs from you in the near future, and not just about Symphogear. I’ve mentioned it before, but Divine leaves some pretty big shoes to fill. I’m sure you’ll manage though, won’t you? =D

You’re in the limelight now, so entertain us!

  16. Welcome to RC! I’m pretty sure you’re a female based on the shows you’ve watched. Haha, pretty much the same list like you :)) I’m guessing you come from an Asian country. If I’m wrong, then my bad. Anyway, great intro. I like your writing style already. 🙂

  17. If you say that writing introduction stuff isn`t your creative side, then i cant imagine whats your average style! Seriously! I cant wait to read your writing about animes!
P.S.: Welcome to the Club 🙂

    1. Most of the episodes were “okay” in my opinion but some of them were really funny and others a bit too plain. I’ve seen funnier so that’s why I gave it a score of 5. I liked it, but it had its ups and downs. I know it’s a very popular show and most anime fans enjoy it but I think there are better comedies out there. :]

      Stereoman
  19. Welcome! Interesting post Stereoman as I was introduced to anime in a similar way. I also wasn’t aware the super robo shows I view was anime until I got aware in high school. I’d say Ranma 1/2 was the first I formally followed and then followed most of the releases by Manga Entertainment and Pioneer, so that would include classics like Tenchie Muyo, El-Hazard, Ninja Scroll, and Record of Lodoss War to name a few.

  20. Welcome to the party, Stereo.
