Episode 18

「レア・イグラー」 (Rea Igurā)
“Rare Igura”

Mikono is still worried about what everyone thinks of her but it was nice to see Cayenne step in and act like a proper older brother. Instead of being over protective, annoyed, and uptight, Cayenne was much more caring and encouraging. You have to admit that the letter their father sent was overly harsh. It’s pretty stupid of her father to ask why she’s there since logically the only people there have elemental powers. Furthermore, he has only realized that she’s enrolled at Neo-DEAVA when she’s been there for who knows how long.

Izumo’s mech looked pretty badass in all white which reminded me of Woolf from Gundam AGE. Its power also reminded me of Sebastian Shaw (the main antagonist X-Men: First Class) since he absorbed energy and sent it back with more force.

I was a little surprised that Zessica would offer herself like that but it was even more surprising when they took Mix (presumably) by accident. Sure Zessica is unhappy and super depressing when it comes to the topic of Amata and love but you’re handing yourself over to the people who killed your friends. I am disappointed in my former favorite character (I think I’ve jumped to the Mix ship!).

I wonder if Crea really believed the war would end if she caved into their demands and solved it diplomatically… What if she had given them their strongest girl yet she didn’t turn out to be their “Eve?” They would have to come back if whoever they gave up as a sacrifice ended up in a comatose state like Alicia. Crea even entertaining such an idea made it more apparent that Fudo wasn’t around guiding her decisions. It didn’t look like the gang could finish Izumo off even if they wanted to which is probably why he went off to search for the original Aquarion.

While Mix and Andy were not the main focus, their little predicament from last episode played a nice role in making this episode funny. Since Mix is the type of person to wear her emotions on her sleeve, we are treated to a never ending stream of facial expressions that are cute and funny.

Episode 19

「はじめての再会」 (Hajimete no Saikai)
“First Reunion”

In order to get a chance at saving Mix, Zessica had to make a pact with the devil angel to get the dimensional gate opened that leads to Altair. Mykage’s kiss left a mark on Zessica’s forward which I assume will let him use her later on like he did with Kagura when he went berserk.

I thought the way the writers used the hole that Kagura made when he was escaping from Altair was very clever. It’s a nice touch when you can incorporate things from previous episodes no matter how seemingly insignificant the detail may seem at the time.

Mikono is such a tease for leaving Neo-DEAVA and telling Amata she has something to tell him after she comes back from searching for Fudo. Judging from the flashback with Yunoha, she is planning to tell him that she likes him. It’s about time she stops beating around the bush.

Even though he isn’t around, Fudo is still the master of metaphoric messages. I thought the donut message was ingenious. It really made me wonder where he was going with it until Crea deciphered his message. It was off into the rabbit hole for our heroes and heroines.

I bet Zessica didn’t expect to get her breasts fondled by men on another planet. The men on the other side haven’t see “iguras” in such a long time that they forgot what breasts were. In fact, I was surprised none of the gang stood out with their clothing. Especially Shrade! He was wearing vastly different garb than everyone on Altair and walking around like nobody’s business.

The punch Andy threw at Amata was pretty surprising. They’re practically best friends but I can understand since it seemed like he wasn’t trying to do anything to get Mix back. He is in such a bad way without her and vowed to reserve his gattai virginity just for Mix. It was funny and kind of cute in an innocent sort of way. Unfortunately for Andy, Mix was right under his nose the whole time…Or at least what looked like Mix…Except without the boobs. Maybe he(?) is Mix’s doppelgänger on Altair. I hope we get an explanation for that since Mix has massive boobs.

Finally, Amata got to see his long lost mother. Izumo saw Amata flying around as well. Hopefully we’ll get a confrontation between them soon. It seems like Amata might get a happy ending in regards to his mom but I wouldn’t write off some tragic accident that possibly kills her. After all, Jin did die so another death isn’t off the table.

  1. Woo first!

OK. At the risk of a million downvotes…

Ep 18: EFFFFF YOUUUU ZESSICA. EFF. YOU.

Ep 19: M-Mix… t-the Big Bangs! ;___; Is that what Altair’s issue is though? The women they kidnapped either fall into comas or turn into men…? Because that indeed is problematic…

    BakaMochi
  2. Wait, so Mix goes raising death flags left and right (complete with next episode being titled after her, if that doesn’t spell DOOM I don’t know what does) and you are worried about Amata’s mom?

Seriously, I just can’t shake this awful foreboding feeling that they are going to pull the “hero tragically kills his brainwashed love interest without realizing it’s her” card.

    Erilex
      1. Shrade mentioned that this trip will be his final melody.

Neo-Diva already lost one of its Vectors when Mix was abducted, so we may potentially lose another in the form of Shrade.

        MasterDragonKnight
  3. So, uh, did the reviewer really miss all the foreshadowing that girls turn into men on Altair? Zessica and Yunoha feeling strange in their throats, them feeling strange overall, the camera panning down to Zessicas crotch?

At least the Altarians are kind of off the hook about what happened to all the women they abducted.

    magnuskn
      1. Don’t worry, Da5id. Altarians just have some kind of high-spec cross-dressing machine like Tomoki in Sora no Otoshimono. Mix will regain those Big-Bangs again after Andy and the others destroy the machine, hopefully. ^_-

      2. This could be actually a nice use for Kagura’s reversal powers.
He either turned her into a guy thanks to Mikages plot or he might have another redeeming moment and turn her back.

        Kyral
      3. @Kyral: I can see the ending! Kagura sacrifices himself to reverse everyone’s genders. How this solves the problem? Let me get back to you on that.

On a random note, an odd thought struck me about Jin the Bishie….

        Beedle
    1. Off the hook? Maybe if they’d sent the women-turned-men back home when they were no longer useful as ‘Eves’. Instead they just brainwashed them and turned them into more soldiers to fight Vega with. Besides how much death and destruction happens whenever their giant mecha come to invade?

      gg
  4. Mix is now a guy, Zessika is dumber than i could imagine and collaborates with the enemy and maybe becomes a guy too, Mykage is just a huge deus ex machina and not to forget this nonsense trolling with the reincarnations.
What will happen next? Will Andy not care at all that MiXY has now a dick and have with him a homoerotic relationship?
Is there anyone who takes this nonsense of a show seriously?

  5. Wonderful, AndyxMix is one of the few things that keep me me watching and now its in danger. I’m just hoping that the Super Robot Genre that Aquarion is supposed to be will make some awesome asspull to solve this.

Zessica has been officially ruined. Her depression and suicidal tendencies was horribly executed, especially since episode 17 implied that she seemed happier. Character backtracking is one of the dumbest things a writer can do.

Amata, is just….there. He hasn’t been doing anything. Maybe now that he found his mom maybe something will finally happen with him.

Mikono is the only one getting better. She finally has a talk with her brother(something that should have happened earlier) and is showing some provocativeness to her role and her powers.

This is pretty much exactly how I feel. In fact I haven’t even watched 19 and I’m not going to watch it, or any other episode until I see some reviews that don’t piss me off. This show has lost it. Mix and Andy were the only two characters that DIDN’T NEED any help in the development arena. They were one of the best-written parts of the show.

Zessica’s entire reason for being popular was she was FUN, but they have slowly, painfully DESTROYED any fun her character had. The last time she was fun was before she liked Amata. When was that? Episode 8?

Amata and Mikono are blah, but what’s sad is they’ve slowly become not the worst part of this. Not because they’ve improved, but because everything else has been dragged down to their level.

The only thing that could change all this for me is if they do a romantic switch and Zessica does become the main girl, not because of shipping (though I’ll admit that’s part of it) but because it would JUSTIFY all this crap. If the last ten or so episodes are all part of a subtle plan to show the heroes are doing the wrong thing and they all sort of switch their thoughts in the end, then maybe, MAYBE, I will be able to accept it.

      KaleRylan
      1. Sir, you do realize that, once Zessica does become Amata’s girl, then Mykage would have won because that’s what he wanted all along (Mikono would be free for Kagura to take).

You see, Mykage is really the dark side of all shipperfags. Pushing things for their own selfish agenda. Messing with fate/destiny (or in this case: CANON).

        Mediafag
      2. Umm… I think you’re missing my point. While I admit shipping is part of it, the main point is the current plot sucks all around. I mean everyone (except maybe Andy) Man-Mix, Zessica, Mikono, Amata, etc. I’m done with it all.

The only way it will be revived for me is if the whole plot is a giant bait-and-switch. This is actually a pretty common theory about this show, and the creators have hinted that it may be so. I’m not hoping for this just because I like Zessica and I want her to go with Amata, that is a very small part of it. the main reason is I no longer like the plot at all and if it continues in a linear fashion to the apparently inevitable end than I will consider this show (for me personally) a failure, and just a bad show. So it needs a twist, a big one.

        KaleRylan
      3. The only appeal I had left with this show was the whole Andy X Mix dynamic. They were the only characters that were interesting and fun to me, so atleast for the time being i am refraining from watching anything past eps. 17.

        Quikbeam
    1. This was my thought. Mix is still alive, somewhere, but tissue samples were taken and force-grown into a male-Mix clone. Of course, we did see some of Mix’s “cruelty” or thinking processes when the Male-Mix betrayed his captors, saying “I just realized, you won’t kill me.” As well as Mix’s Element power being copied in the Male-Mix clone.

As for the other two girls, I think the planetary pollution may be fatal to their chromosomes. The reason why the women died out.

      jhpace1
    2. I’m going to take a stab in the dark.

Mykage is Touma’s miscarriaged child from the Wings of Genesis movie.
There actually is no Apollo reincarnation because he never died. Instead in the final episode, Apollo, Sirius, and Touma are going to revive and deus ex machina the world into a better place. Zessica is either going to suicide, turn into a man, or become Kagura’s bitch.

      Suppa Tenko
  6. Even after all of that has happen, I am still a Zessica fan. The poor girl doensn’t have any chance from the beginning. Zessica is the one who should just get caught by the Altarian, turned into a guy and brainwashed instead of Mix. That way Zessica can forget about Amata and end the pain in her heart which will consume her sooner or later.

And I just dont know what’s going to happen next. My brain just can’t process this show. The trolling in this show is making my brain hurt. Now it looks brighter on the Amata/Mikono ending just because shu-shu is going jelly on Amata.

It pains me to see Zessica turned to the dark side, but I have to see it till the end. Maybe there a trollception or a super mega suprise waiting.

    Jonz
    1. Agreed. I’m still a Zessica fan too.

So she messed up, it’s not like it has not happened before. Mikono tried to run away too, and she defended Kagura, despite knowing that he was responsible for the deaths of many of the students. Mix is not faultless either, having almost gotten Andy killed before.

Mikono and Mix have their flaws visible from the start, and people only started to like them after they gotten better. Zessica has always been likable, so why is it that people hate her after she made one bad decision? Give Zessica a chance to redeem herself. She is trying to make up for her mistakes, even if it meant making a deal with someone like Mykage.

      MasterDragonKnight
      1. What is there to like about someone that is working with the enemy in the first place? How many episodes is Zessika moping and being depresed about a guy that was never really interested in her in the first place. The problem is that Mikono and Mix are evolving and Zessika is emo for nearly half of the show.

        igloo
      2. The annoying thing is, the writers seemed to just throw all of Zessica’s development out the window with episode 18. As for the Mykage-thing, I don’t know about you but it seemed to me that Zessica was too freaked out about Mykage’s appearance to do anything. He did pull a whole load of deus ex before…

        Beedle
      3. @Beedle
About which Zessika development are you talking? Was there ever one? Since the moment she understood that she fell for Amata, she become like igloo said “emo and depressed” and that for god knows how many episodes. After her confession and she tried to fool herself that she has a chance with changing her clothes and behavior and be more like Mikono, but that was in vain and she realized that. So she is again the usual emo and depressed Zessika.

~17 episodes to pull all this off (and apart from Andy, Mix and, to an extent, Jin, showed the most dynamic change)…

then suddenly…=> suicidal to find a purpose in life? o_0 wut? she was supposed to be content. Not this. If they were gonna have Zessica go down this route, then they should’ve erased the final scene of episode 17!

I might have to rewatch that kidnapping episode but I don’t recall Zessica saying ‘love me because Mikono will throw you away!’. What she was trying to do was make Amata realize that Kagura and Mikono are ‘destined’, and she didn’t want Amata to get hurt when he’ll ‘eventually’ get cast aside again. (grave training highlighted this)

        ——————————————————————————————
All of that has absolutely nothing to do with character development. She still was and is the same emo and depressed Zessica. And as we all could see on episode 18 and 19, she was not content at all because it was just a FACADE that crumbled on episode 19. She only ACTED like she is content with it.
Again, she is still the same emo and depressed character that she was since she realized that she fell for Amata. Her character development is close to zero in this show.

        thebang
      6. @thebang: not to sound like an ass, but I do wonder what you consider character development.

The series has done a lot, and spent a lot of time to develop Zessica’s character – showing many facets of her personality that just ‘mopey’ generalises things too much – until that point where she was supposed to have accepted her one-sided love…which was suddenly thrown out the window one episode later, and quite abruptly, too. There was no prior indication that she’d suddenly turn ‘suicidal’ looking for a ‘meaning to her existence’. Sure she was introspective, but nowhere did her thoughts drift to surrendering her life in Vega at the drop of a hat like she did now.

So, was all that time she spent growing and accepting feelings a lie, then? Because if so, then that’s either the greatest trolling I’ve seen in anime so far, or the worst plot device ever made because of the amount of airtime they gave Zessica.

The ones with zero character development in this show are pretty much the entire cast except for Zessica, Jin, Yunoha, Cayenne, and the recent Andy/Mix, and to a disorienting extent Mikono. At this point, everyone else is the same as they were in episode one; that’s zero character development.

  7. Seriously Aquarion Evol w/o the usual Andy X Mix is boring >.>

I just hope that the “womanhood” of mix will return on earth 🙁

And seriously mikono there’s no way you can find fudo..it’s fudo that will find you >.>

  8. My guess is that girls turn into men once they get onto Altair. Maybe Zessica’s and Yunoha’s throat feel weird because they are about to have their voices change? Just an idea…

    ikotha
  9. The biggest tease of the year has stopped bothering. I am disappoint.
Oh, and I think there’s something in the Alt-air (ba-dum-tish), that turns women into men. Scratching in the womenfolk’s throats, hmmm?

    Bio D
    1. I swear that whole plotline about switching genders makes this series incredibly unsettling. This could potentially lose nearly all the main female characters. ;_;

      puyo
    2. What is in the air that genderbend girls?? is it a virus? male growth hormones?! with how things are going they never “solved” that problem given how fast they change to dudes so whats the point of kidnapping women to repopulate with if they change from shes to “hes” in less than a week?? they could better rename the planet from Altair to Planet Blueballs…

And Zessica I am DISAPPOINT, where is that spunky confident tough girl I loved so much, now I see is some sulking shell of her former self (now with ridiculous dress design that defies common sense), I thought you would be more direct but only stalked Amata and let your insecurities eat you from the inside, the confession came far too late, then again the “first girl rule” was far too obvious which made all of her attempts futile and sad to watch and now making contracts with the Kyubey devil

Mykage and his pet “dog” (that should be dead ten timers over) makes me sick, not because he’s devious but he just so BROKEN a character, he can cross (or project himself) across dimensions undetected under his power he foils plans (on BOTH sides), retrieves his “dog” from certain death and capture to be a nuisance for another day, butts in to situations with sooooo much gap HAX you gotta wonder if a certain youkai is behind all of this, he’s just sitting there looking all fabulous and stuff

      1. Zessica character is seriously hurt by now. But stil, those who are in love is always in a unstable emotional state, can’t really blame Zessica though, cause most people do that anyway. Beside, she is overshadowed by Mikono which made her hold her moves for Amata. Zessica would surely be very direct with Amata if only he is available and not so obviously infatuated with Mikono.

        Jonz
      2. About Zessica… Amata at any time in this show showed any feeling for Zessica, except friendship. There has never been Amata x Zessica, and she always knew that, but she starts think about her chance with Amata after her vision “created by Mykage” of Mikono with Kagura, because she thought that if Mikono chooses Kagura she could stay with Amata, is outrageous, wanting to be the second option, but she prefers it…

in February I said here, the real triangle is KaguraxMikonoxAmata, it was obvious from the start, so I don’t believe what happened to her now was decided only in this moment. Even if she is popular or not, that’s what would happen to her.

        About the reincarnations I gave up… 🙂

  10. I just remembered how others said back then that Kagura is Apollo because of his resemblance especially his golden eyes. But when I looked on Sylvia I noticed she had BLUE eyes, and ironically Zessica share the same eye color. Don’t you think Mikage is brainwashing both Kagura and Zessica? I mean, it seems plausible that Mikage was showing those false images to Zessica for some reason and Zessica really is Silvia’s reincarnation.

    Silvia/Zessica both have:
    Psychokinesis
    Blue Eyes
    Tsundere characters
Uhh, Short hair? (lol to myself for this one)

As for Mikono and Celiane, we don’t have enough information to compare them.

But the flaw in this assumption is that Apollo promised Silvia that he would never forget her smell. Kagura said that “she” smells like Mikono. Then…

    The Story You Don't Know
    1. More or less, at least the producers finally foreshadowed what Altair’s problem with the extinct population of women subliminally.

Theoretically(or may not be depending on how the next episode would run), I think that the planet Altair is spewing poison or elemental powers that would slowly turn all the women into men and forget about their past lives as the opposite gender and Kagura may have something to do with this since his power is the power of inversion. Meh, either it’s just me or the producers are seriously trolling the series enough to make it worse QQ

I mean, it seems plausible that Mikage was showing those false images to Zessica for some reason and Zessica really is Silvia’s reincarnation

Tho’ the possibility of Zessica being Sylvie/Celiane is not far, I’m betting that she would be the reincarnation of Celiane’s other half (i.e., Sirius) since it would make more sense that all the jealousy she’s been spewing on the AmataMikono pairing would be the same as on how Sirius is jelly on Apollo being the real reincarnation of Apollonius. Also, Mikage CLEARLY & subliminally directs Zessica in joining his force by taking advantage of her negativity, which would be the same as to what happened with Touma & Sirius in the series’ predecessor. In one way, I still believe that Sylvie/Celiane is Mikono & Zessica Show Spoiler ▼

As for the AndyMix pairing, I HOPE THEY WON’T MAKE IT THE SAME AS THE REIKAxGLEN PAIRING >.> And if Shrade dies, FANS WILL RAGE! >:D

Finally, Amata got to see his long lost mother. Izumo saw Amata flying around as well. Hopefully we’ll get a confrontation between them soon.

  12. The punch Andy threw at Amata was pretty surprising. They’re practically best friends but I can understand since it seemed like he wasn’t trying to do anything to get Mix back.

I actually got annoyed with Andy for this since he spent the previous episode moping when Mix was clearly trying to patch things up, and Amata did try to help until Izumo blocked him. Speaking of which, dat Izumo…why didn’t they send him in from the beginning? !

Finally, Amata got to see his long lost mother. Izumo saw Amata flying around as well. Hopefully we’ll get a confrontation between them soon.

Crea even entertaining such an idea made it more apparent that Fudo wasn’t around guiding her decisions

So much for the absurdly competent loli, eh?

Mikono is such a tease for leaving Neo-DEAVA and telling Amata she has something to tell him after she comes back from searching for Fudo. Judging from the flashback with Yunoha, she is planning to tell him that she likes him. It’s about time she stops beating around the bush.

Yes she is ‘___’. Sadly, it didn’t trigger any death flags….

I am disappointed to. What the heck happened to all of Zessica’s development?! How’d she suddenly jump from content to suicide in the span of one episode?!

In order to get a chance at saving Mix, Zessica had to make a pact with the devil angel to get the dimensional gate opened that leads to Altair. Mykage’s kiss left a mark on Zessica’s forward which I assume will let him use her later on like he did with Kagura when he went berserk.

To be fair, Zessica had no say in the matter. She was terrified into silence at Mykage’s appearance…

Overall, the past two episodes have been rather…weird, instead of exciting. Next one looks promising though; it seems Altair managed to make their own ‘Aquarions’ somehow…even though they’re supposed to be running out of power

    Beedle
  13. no wonder Yonoha doesn’t feel as bad in Altair… guess the “toxic” air works faster if you have a bigger boob? sorry, I kid there…
even though I don’t like MIX all that much till this point, it is still too WTF for them to do such things to MIX 🙁 it is so terrible 🙁
at this point, I don’t care how they tie all the loose end and resolve the conflicts, as long as they do some justice to Zessica…

    jrj
  14. Huh… so the women didn’t actually die, but were turned into men? If that turns out to be true, I’ll chalk it up to Mykage trolling everyone. Speaking of Mykage, his speech to Zessica mentioned being “unchosen” which anyone whose watched the original and knows the story of Touma would see as a hint that Mykage is really Touma.

Good to see Mikono has decided to be more proactive. It looks like she’ll finally confess to Amata when she gets back though considering Kagura is still alive I doubt that moment will go well. The Story You Don’t Know made a good point about how Zessica is more like Sylvia then Mikono is, but considering Aquarion loves complicated reincarnations I doubt it’s that simple. But I have to wonder why Shushu wasn’t jealous of Kagura.

Poor Andy/Mix. I really hope my favorite pairing manages to last this show. And that Mix gets transformed back into a woman, since she works best as one.

    Frontier
    1. Based on the flashback, Shushu’s not jealous of Kagura because, apparently, there’s ‘no way for Mikono to like Kagura’ or something or the other; Shushu attacks people that Mikono likes (Amata, Yunoha, etc).

And yeah, I guess Mykage is really Touma reincarnated. Damn does that guy know how to hold a grudge….it’s been what, 24,000 years?

      Beedle
  15. Don’t u think the title for next episode (MI.XY) is sort of a play on the XY chromosomes (which males have)? Probably the inter dimension travel caused Mix to become a shota.. Oh man… I hope not…

  16. Andy has been continuously evolving his elemental powers.

At first, he could only use it when he physically digs, to seek out the weak points in the soil. Then after the training of the grave, he could quickly form holes in the earth a distance away. Now, he could punch holes in just about any matter, and he even implied that he could rip holes into people’s bodies.

Imagine if he could evolve his powers to their maximum potential. He could form three-dimensional holes in space, much like black holes, that would obliterate anything within its radius. He may even be able to punch holes through time, space, and dimension itself.

    2. Actually, that’s not a bad idea. The good guys need something as powerful as the “Reverse” Element power. Andy creating temporary mini-black holes would up the sci-fi level of Aquarion EVOL a bit.

      1. She didn’t even know that Amata would be traveling into enemy territory anytime soon. The dimension gate opened AFTER she was already on the boat and leaving Neo DEAVA. What was she supposed to do? Turn the boat around and come back? Nah, she’s got better things to do. Like finding the only person who can fix this crap. GEN FUDO! 🙂

I actually liked her actions this episode, instead of sitting around and doing nothing like the rest of them, she takes action herself and doesn’t just wait for a dimension gate to miraculously open up, or Altairians to attack them. And without Mykage & Zessica’s “deal” they probably would’ve waited for a much, much longer amount of time for something to happen. Other than waiting, finding Fudo was the only option in their situation.

  17. Episode 18: Other than exemplifying the teenage despair and the kidnap ‘Big Bang’ Mix, it could have been better.

Episode 19: The episode gave great insight of the enemy home world and frankly I can see why they would want to leave the god forsaken place where your mascot is an angel hell bent on capturing one girl. If anyone realize when Mykage and Izumo was talking, he said something about a single flower adored by everyone and there is no reason for a garden to bloom. I think he wiped Mix’s memories and (curse him!) Mix’s big bangs, because she was not the true eve and made her into a boy. The dude is sick. I’d strangle him if it wasn’t for his vast powers.

P.s. Zessica never make deals with men older than you, especially if they are thousands years old.

      1. You know, that says a lot, because I’m getting a lot of the same feelings here as guilty crown. It started great, and then dropped like a freaking rock. Although Guilty Crown didn’t start as good and dropped faster and worse than this.

THis, I’m just tired of the trolling on the part of the creators. Unlikable characters (amata, mikono), Likable characters being made unlikable or killed (zessica, Jin, Mix, etc.) Largely unpleasant romance. Plot that has gone nowhere now for half the series. I’ve heard theories that this is all set up for a macross style switch ending. But the thing about macross is they gave the switch from Minmei to Misa/Lisa understandable. Misa was likable and not mopey most of the time, Minmay was immature, but not cruel or stupid. The way Zessica and Mikono have been handled just makes them both really bad characters.

  18. mikono is seriously annoying. so she is going to tell amata her feelings after what she has to do is complete? why couldn’t she just tell him now?

what is up with zessica hate? i still like her more than mikono caus emikono has not once faced any hardship so far. not once did i ever feel sorry for, not once did i think oh so sad. she needs to work for what she wants. everything can’t just be handed to her cause she is the connector. i would like to have atleast one character on the show who dislikes mikono but nope, there is none.

    lol
    1. Actually Mikono HAS been through hardships. Just because she was (supposely) born without an element her father and brother treated her like CRAP for most of her life. Her brother is just starting to turn around while her father still treats her like CRAP.. What does Mikono do? She gets over it.

What has Zessica been through? Unrequited love. And what do most people do when their love is unrequited? They get over it. Sure, it’s fine to be depressed and all, but suicide attempts? Really? At that moment, I stopped feeling sorry for her. It’s not that serious.

None of the characters in this series dislike Zessica, so why should they dislike Mikono?

      Rofl
      1. I agree, Rofl.
Mikono: Her whole life she was treated like crap from people that should have been there for her in the first place. She lacked self-confidence and had not a good opinion about herself because of how she was treated. But instead of moping around she grew as a character and got over her issues.

Zessica: She has an unrequited love, is depressed for most of the time and she made no progression as a character.

I wonder who had it harder in her life.

      2. Umm… when did Mikono get over her issues? Last I checked her insistence that she was basically useless is her defining character trait. Admittedly, she just goes on with life rather than stalling, but the thing is, that doesn’t mean she got over it at all. She’s spent her whole life being treated like that, so just passively accepting the abuse and moving on is how she’s ALWAYS behaved.

This is one of those things where broken, abused people can APPEAR stronger than people who have never experienced severe problems. It doesn’t mean a thing, it just means they’re used to being broken and abused, which is not actually strength.

        KaleRylan
      3. I disagree with you here. To me her defining character trait was her ability to move foward and connect others while doing , but maybe that’s because I always look at the positive side of things.:P I agree that her major problems was her thoughts of uselessless, being passive, and stalling, but this had started to change episode 1. It’s small, but she goes outside WITHOUT her brother, which is different from how she usually waits for him. When she joined Neo DEAVA she continued to prove her usefulness in piloting and in other things like when she basically got Andy & Mix together and when she convinced the depressed Yunoha to go to Jin’s funeral. Although the main problem still remained, she was unable to see it herself.

This has been fixed rather recently (the previous episode to be exact) due to her Brother-Sister chat with Cayenne where he finally admits that she’s when changed from the “useless coward of a sister” that he once had. You can tell that hearing these words from one of her previous offenders changed her perspective of herself. In the 18 preview, she says that even though she was passive and scared before, she now needs to take a step foward. In episode 19 she says that she realizes that her stalling has hurt others. And finalizing it in episode 19 when she says that she “Can’t just sit and be useless while we lose MIX!”. While sailing away in a boat to find Gen. These actions arn’t the actions of someone passively accepting abuse. To me, it’s strength. 🙂

  19. Andy just can’t catch a break. He wants to save his first coed gattai for Mix? She turns into a man… The directors are such trolls.

If the gender swap thing is true, then some very very disturbing possibilities arises. Imagine if Mykage is actually Alicia gender swapped.
“Amata…I am your mother” “NOOOOOOOOO! (do not want!)”

I have doubts/pothole picks about this turn of events.
If Altair knew girls turn to boys, then why did they not quarantine Mix immediately like Alicia?
Also, Alicia’s body right there has perfectly good ovaries/eggs to harvest surgically for making test tube babies. Altair definitely seems technologically advance enough to accomplish that.
Also also, if Altair is really low on energy and simply completely polluted, their last concern would be about bringing girls from another dimension to make babies. Super-overpopulation is the last thing they need. A chick will not miraculously revive their planet…unless they got their own Aquarion stored somewhere.

  20. This disease really is something diabolical, something can deprive us of feminine beauty, her innocent eyes, his cheeks red, her smooth shoulders, their curves, their voices sweet and heavenly soft, this world is hell indeed, more to women for not only change them, remove the attributes that they felt proud and full life, do not wear a dress without being ridiculous, having a gay boyfriend, unable to have children or a normal family.
I hope that Mix can return to normal, it’s not fair that she and Andy end up that way. And also, I hope Amata rescue his mother.

      1. Okay, if it’s a language issue, then fair enough. It just seemed very stalker-ish. The only hint I would give you is that most english speakers tend to understate their feelings, so when you use that many strong words to describe the ‘wonders of women’ it seems VERY over the top.

        KaleRylan
  21. …Has anyone considered the chance that Mix is an exception and that the feeling Zessica and Yunoha get is the disease KILLING all the women? Remember, Amata commented on the number of graves in Altair.

And Mix will get her big bangs back. Either through Kagura, or through having a union in Aquarion. Remember, Mix had problems with guys, so this is all likely some roundabout way to blossom the true love between Andy and Mix, thought up by the writers.

  22. Well now the issue with “love is forbidden” will be solved with girls becoming guys. I can’t wait to see what happens next. There just has to be a happy ending for this anime series.

  23. @thebang

What Beedle just thighlighted can also be count as development, but the scene is too minor to be called as a “real” development. This is what I meant when Zessica doesn’t have any chance. There is no real interaction between her and Amata except for the confession scene.
She doesn’t even have a background story, which made her easily to be hated when she did something bad. When she going emo because of unrequited love, people are despise her, unlike Mikono who has a background story which made people sympathetic with her.

Zessica is always a hero in Neo-Deava and have high confidence ans strong will as a fighter. She know that she is in a unstable state and looking for solution to get back on her feet. The solution did appear, but MIX accidentally stole it from her, hahaha. Now another chance appear and she took it from Mykage to redeem herself by opening the dimension gate.

  24. I don’t think they will write off MIX. After all that poor Andy has already suffered enough. Maybe bringing her beach to earth of making the long awaited union with Andy may bring the big-bangs back to life.

That also brings light about the “true eve” business as the Alteans are apparently looking for a female able to resist the gender-bending virus and find a cure for it.

My guess is that Sylvia and Apollo are actually Alicia and Fudo. That could make of Amata the “wings of sun” not by reincarnation, but by genetics instead as it seems that his father is not Izumo after all.

  25. I think that Mix, is the real Mix but brainwashed. We still don’t know what problem Altair had to lose all their Women, but Show Spoiler ▼

  26. oh god, Zessica makes things more complicated now. I thought her feelings for Amata has shut down already! its too pushy cause I can’t see why Zessica loves him so much when most of the time he didint give her any hope. oh yeah btw Im Amata x Mikono fans from the beginning. yeah thumbs down me.
