Continuing off from the previous chapter, it seems like the focus is going to stay fixed on the fight between Tobi and Naruto (Kakashi and Guy) at the moment. I have to say, some of the fighting the last few chapters have been a tad bit hard to follow. I mean, it’s not difficult enough to the point where I haven’t the foggiest what’s going on, but yeah. Anyway, at least that’s nullified this week a bit due to the fact that the main thing that this chapter revolved around was tactics and strategy.

Going back to the previous chapter for a moment, we were left off with the fact that the combination attack by Naruto, Kakashi, and Guy actually managed to do a little bit of damage (albeit only to the mask). With that, we find out this chapter that it’s impossible for it to have been a result of any of the specific techniques used by Guy or Naruto, but rather the result of Kakashi’s Kamui technique in combination with a kunai. After doing another round of strikes to test a theory in relation to that, it seems like Kakashi gets the proof he needs in terms of unlocking the secrets behind Tobi’s “time-space manipulation”… though sadly, we don’t get much explanation regarding this aspect this time around.

As such, combining that with the fact that not much theoretically happened… I think I’ll spend the rest of this post pondering what the theory is behind Tobi’s abilities. Note that from here on out, all of this is just supposition, so just take my prediction here with a grain of salt! 😀

Anyway, what it seems to me is that Tobi’s ability is actually something akin to Kakashi’s Kamui, except he uses it on himself to “teleport his physical self” away so it’s as if he becomes transparent. And the reason is, because only the kunai thrown via Kakashi’s dagger hit and because he mentions how the technique has never been cancelled out before. As such, it reasons that only the same technique, or one of a similar category, would be able to fulfill these conditions. It would also explain the reason why he’s not able to keep completely transparent indefinitely (something that Tobi mentioned himself a while back), as the Kamui would put an immense strain in terms of chakra usage and concentration. So basically, he’s not necessarily becoming transparent or absorbing, but rather literally avoiding any attacks by not actually being there physically in the same dimension.

I don’t know. It all seems a bit hmmm… to me, but that’s the thing I came up with when pondering what happened this chapter. And that’s about it I guess. I reckon we’ll get the answer next chapter… though if I’m not mistaken, that next chapter won’t be out until the week after next, as it seems like it’s going on a one week break. So if you guys don’t see a post next week for Naruto, that’s probably the reason why.

  1. Well, in a recent interview, Kishi revealed we would be getting the identity of Tobi in a few weeks; though, Kishi hasn’t always fulfilled his promises. Still, once we figure out who Tobi is, we should be able to then understand the similarities between Tobi and Kakashi’s space-time techniques.

That said, I as well have heard we would not be getting a Naruto chapter next week. But Mangastream never made a statement about this (to my knowledge) and this chapter didn’t mention that either, which is customary whenever the manga will take a temporary hiatus. So maybe this is just a false rumor. Would be nice if it was false “^__^

  2. They were talking about an other dimension so I think you’re on to something here; that dark place where Tobi kept Sasuke for a while, it seems that Kakashi’s kamui is just a projected version of Tobi’s absorbing technique; both open a gate to that place so when Kakashi opened the gate to that world at the same time that Tobi tried to absorb Naruto’s rasengan it caused the rasengan to instantaneously go there and come back out which is why Tobi was hit. It means if Kakashi’s eye is active at the same time as Tobi’s then his space time techniques are out the window.

  3. I’m also wondering if Tobi’s technique isn’t, to a certain extent, the same as Kakashi’s Kamui. Be it a more refined/powerful version or just something similar. And since Tobi is in the business of stealing eyes, I’m wondering if he maybe got his hands on Obito’s right eye.

      1. There is no conceivable, logical way for him to be Obito. I brought this to attention in the last chapter blog. I don’t know why this keeps coming up… -sigh- I’ll break it down so it’s super easy for those who just can’t understand for some reason “-__-

        1) Obito’s personality isn’t even in the least synonymous with Tobi’s. Actually, it’s the complete opposite. There’s more to this, too. I’ll explain in the next point.

        2) Kakashi was only 14 when the nine-tails attacked Konoha. That means 4 years passed since receiving the Sharingan. So you’re telling me, in 4 years, a 13-17 year old Obito obtained the power to fight the most powerful Hokage in Naruto history, summon the nine-tails, control the nine-tails, and grow to possess the most powerful space-time ninjutsu ever? Seriously?

As an extension off point 1, Tobi had a deep voice, and a height and build of an adult. No 17 year old has that, unless he’s taking steroids. Not to mention again, the personality change!

        3) As Tobi has explained, he gave the Rinnegan to Nagato. Nagato was 30 when he died. Kakashi was 30 when Nagato died. Meaning Obito was 3 when Nagato was born. So let me get this straight, Serge: a 3 year-old Obito obtained and implanted the Rinnegan into Nagato? Yeah, makes sense.

Sorry, but this “Obito is Tobi” shit is so annoying and so stupid! There is not even a shred of coherency involved! That isn’t to say Tobi doesn’t have any of Obito’s flesh and blood. But Tobi is NOT Obito.

      2. Not to say you’re wrong, but just pointing out, lol.

With #1, as I mentioned before a couple chapters ago, people can change quite drastically in very short periods of time, depending on the situation, and especially in anime/manga, lol.

With #1, look at Naruto. He’s been powering up to where he is from mere days to weeks at a time in “training”. And when you consider just how weak he was when Shippuuden started…yeah…lol.

        That’s really it though. I agree on all the points, but just saying that there can be exceptions, especially with the main characters x_x;

” I don’t know why this keeps coming up… -sigh- I’ll break it down so it’s super easy for those who just can’t understand for some reason “-__- ”

on the other hand, i really can’t guess why the above kind of thoughts is coming up……

        1. Tobi’s personality while he was faking it was exactly like Obito’s. Only when Deidara died he changed his manners.Who can say what his real personality is like if he can fake it that well

        2. c’mon..seriously…Naruto..in three years stronger than a hokage, Sasuke, in three years most dangerous assassin all around, Gaara, in three years -> Kazekage……….

        3. Well that could be true but still.
        a) Tobi might lie
        b) Tobi uses SPACE/TIME manipulation technique!!!
        c) Say that the above are wrong, still Tobi might be something ‘between’ Obito and someone/something else, but definetely Obito in part.

And as for latest chapter( and actually most chapters with Tobi in it )
How much more does Kishimoto need to say to show that Tobi’s technique IS Kamui

btw, no offense for the commentary above! 😛

        Revolutionary
      4. hah,now that i think about it….

Kishimoto has done pretty much everything…from using the moon as a huge spell to the ressurection of dead people (in more than one ways! :P) and pretty much….everything that is extreme and illogical can be explained with ninjutsu/eye_techniques

He has also build enough ground on the idea that one can also manipulate Space and Time…………..

Who is eager to see a Time Travel trick pulled on us by Kishimoto!
        He really isn’t that far 😛 😛

Someone going to the past/future with Kamui-style Techniques…say…obito….or even better, someone we know 😛

        Revolutionary
      5. In the Naruto universe, saying that Tobi is Obito because all the letters of Tobi are in Obito is valid logic.

Even if it’s a romanized translation.

That’s how stupid arguing about it is.

        Jello
      6. I never really believed in Tobi being Obito, but now that we almost know for certain that Kamui’s technique and Tobi’s technique are similar, there is no other way to explain it (knowing that neither Itachi nor Sasuke showed signs of mastering it) than either, Tobi is using Obito’s other eye, or he’s using his whole body.
What if he’s using an advanced version of Orochimaru’s body change technique that could last more than 3 years ? Tobi always seemed both too old mentaly (knowing detaliled stories from the sage of the 6 paths as if he were there…) with too young and athletic a body. He could have took Obito’s body to inhabit after this one died.

      7. so y’all saying who ever uses time n space tech must me obito? n tobi is NOt obito he wasnt even born yet when he supposedly give Nagato Rinnegan and he sounded way 2 old b 2 14 when he fought minato unless he using ninja steriods

        lol
    1. ‘There is no conceivable, logical way for him to be Obito.’

‘Sorry, but this “Obito is Tobi” shit is so annoying and so stupid! There is not even a shred of coherency involved! That isn’t to say Tobi doesn’t have any of Obito’s flesh and blood. But Tobi is NOT Obito.’

Do you realize that you’re reading Naruto? When has logic EVER applied to this manga?

      Anon
      1. Well, in regards to making sense, maybe things do go “bananas” during fights in Naruto (specially lately) but plot wise i think Kishi has been doing a good job keeping a coherent storyline that makes sense.

And yeah, there is no freaking way Obito is Tobi, check Uchiha Izuna (Madara’s brother) or Uchiha Kagami (another Uchiha who has a very similar face to Tobi .. hair style and head protector) .. both fit in terms of age too.

        HunterWulf
  4. Candidates for Tobi’s real identity:

    Uchiha Obito
    Uchiha Kagami
Uchiha Somebody – i.e. his identity isn’t really important and that the whole mask mystery was simply so Tobi could assume Madara’s identity.

    EamonX
    1. Who says that Tobi MUST be an Uchiha in the first place?

Kakashi has been living proof that you DON’T have to be a blood-related Uchiha to be able to use/master the Sharingan or to even evolve it into the Mangekyo Sharingan. So who’s to say that it’s not someone else entirely that, like Kakashi, had Sharingan eyes surgically transplanted into him (considering he has a bunch of Uchiha Clan corpses)?

It seems pretty clear Tobi’s capable of doing all the surgery (on) himself if him getting the Rinnegan with no view of any help is any indication.

Not saying that it’s not possible for Tobi to be an Uchiha, but just saying that there’s always that option.

      HalfDemonInuyasha
      1. He has to be from the Uchiha clan .. when he took Nagato’s eyes back he said they originally belonged to him and that he implanted them in Nagato when he was still a kid .. he had to be one from the Uchiha for that to happen … as we know now from Madara that the Rinnegan is an upgrade of a fully developed Sharingen.

        HunterWulf
      2. That doesn’t automatically mean that they’re his in that sense though (as in naturally evolved like Madara’s). Otherwise, why bother giving them to Nagato at all? Especially considering it’s quite clear that he nor Nagato had ANY intention of sticking with any agreements they may have had before. And why only take back ONE of them and not both when he raided his corpse?

        HalfDemonInuyasha
  5. From the way it seems, in simpler terms (at least until we get an explanation that says otherwise(, it seems like, with Kakashi using Kamui, he essentially allows an attack to “follow” Tobi wherever he goes using his jutsu to warp away, allowing the attack to appear wherever he goes and still hit him as if they were still going in their dimension.

    HalfDemonInuyasha
  6. i think that the others dimension shares the same position with the normal dimension, geographically i mean. naruto rasengan, when hit with kamui, moved to the other dimension, but its postion relative to both dimensions was the same. when Tobi performed his technique while the rasengan was in the real dimension it did not harm him. the moment it moved to his dimension they both existed on the same level so the attack hit. same with kunai. im not completely sure though, where he got hit does not match where the rasengan was warped, unless the rasengan kept moving through the ofher dimension. im probably wrong but i thought i might throw it out there.

  7. RANDOM SHOUT OUT: What happened to Guy’s Nun-chucks?
I think the story will make more sense to me in a few more chapters.
Did anyone else read the Naruto Movie Special manga?

  8. Hmm. My way of looking at it is thus:
-Kamui changes the frequency of the item at its focal point.

-Tobi’s tech does the same but can only be used on himself OR something he is touching. If he is slightly out of phase attacks go through him, if he is way out of phase he moves to a pocket dimension.

I cant explain his light speed movement though.

  9. I’m worried in a few weeks when they finally break Tobi’s mask, the last panel will show everyone’s shocked faces and…”Naruto is going on a break for 3 weeks, enjoy the rest of your summer!”

    Nanashi
    1. While maybe not a huge break (as in no Naruto at all), I COULD very well see it cliffhanging us and switching back to Madara vs. the 5 Kage for several chapters before going back again and finally mixing up the two fights together and start getting some answers. Then go back to Sasuke, Orochimaru, and co. to see what’s going on there.

      HalfDemonInuyasha
  10. Whats up with Uchiha Kaenjin? Was that Tobi’s real name? Or just a mistranslated part? Tobi’s sharingan belongs to Obito. He has a whole collection of Sharingan in his lab. Tobi is probably another form of Zetsu infused with cells of Madara and Hashirama. It was mentioned in chapter 510 that he has both the powers of Senju and Uchiha. That’s why he can use Izanagi perfectly. It was also mentioned some chapters ago that Tobi kinda new Uzumaki Mito. And was familiar with her ability to sense other peoples negative intent. Tobi also talks in a way that he himself was actually Madara. I don’t think he was just pretending. He might also be a clone of Madara using Hashirama’s power to produce a clone similar to Zetsu. Zetsu was more like a plant. Similar to Hashirama’s ability.

  11. Is that there possibilities Tobi maybe not human at all, if i recall it his blood not look humanoid at all.
There also possibilities Tobi not from uchiha at all.(well he could get sharingan just way kakashi did it right?)
(actually i agree with theory Tobi being Obito but just 50-50.I Agree because Obito being one of my favorite character just it. I disagree because it not logical at all to me.)

  12. Did I understand this right? .. Tobi has got Obitos eye, but its not sure he is Obito yet. I wonder how he got that, he showed an affinity for stealing eyes before. Personally I still dont think that Tobi is Obito. The boy got smashed before Kakashis Eyes and it seemed like he was mocking Kakashi over regretting his friends death. I thought about the same lines as DovahkiinGGGGG.
This is probably gonna be like some personal vendetta for Kakashi.. so it somehow surprised me that naruto took over again since he cant do anything about Tobis timespace jutsu ?!? Kakashi can´t use kamui forever ..he´ll run out of chakra, he is already heavy sweating .. i´m beginning to wonder if he comes out of this alive >.<.
