With more premieres scheduled to hit our screens tomorrow, I suppose we’d better give you an idea of what we’ll be covering, eh? So here it is – RandomC’s season schedule for Winter 2013!

As always, this is a tentative overview of RandomC’s plans for the new season. We’ll also be doing introductory posts about many of the shows we’re not covering, so if something catches one of our eyes, things will be shifted around to accommodate. The schedule will be updated to reflect any changes.

This season we’ve modified the schedule a bit to mark shows we’re planning on covering, but haven’t decided exactly who is going to be doing it yet. This is mostly due to personal schedules – sometimes one of us will want to cover a show, but we aren’t sure we’ll have the time with all our RL priorities. Mostly we leave these grayed out and pick them up later if we feel we can – and that’s largely what we’ll still do – but in the case of one show, Tamako Market, there are enough writers interested in covering it that it’s 95% certain to get blogged. You’ll just have to wait until the 2nd or 3rd post to find out who will write it to its conclusion.

In writer news, you might have noticed that, in addition to Prooof (who is still covering the Bleach manga), BakaMochi isn’t picking up any shows this season. She’s not going on hiatus, though. Even though she’s been super busy with RL stuff, she’s still going to be helping out with the screenshots for several series. Thanks a lot in advance Mochi, and I look forward to your return to writing soon!

Speaking of returns, did you notice that strapping chap with the light purple next to his name? Yes, Takaii is back, and ready to resume his excellent coverage of Haganai! I for one very much enjoyed his coverage of the first season, so I’m eagerly looking forward to more.

For the rest of us, it’s business as usual. We’re currently set to cover 19 series, compared to 21 last season, though that’s no surprise – winter is generally considered a “weaker” season, and with a lot of the new shows being shorts, there simply weren’t as many we were interested in covering. As for those we are blogging, the overwhelming majority are set to air from Thursday to Saturday, so make sure to check back a lot during those days!

We’ll keep doing our best to deliver great content in a timely fashion, so I hope you all keep reading. Welcome to 2013, another year of crazy anime fun with Random Curiosity! Yoroshiku~

1/13: After a stellar first episode, Zanibas is picking up Kotoura-san. Stilts will be taking care of the writing for Tamako Market.

1/23: GuardianEnzo has officially picked up Minami-ke Tadaima. Viva la Minami sisters!

1/13: BakaMochi is officially taking over PSYCHO-PASS.

    1. DAT THURSDAY…
I’m going to be watching Psycho-Pass, Zetsuen no Tempest and Robotics;Notes plus Boku wa tomodachi, follwed on friday with chihayafuru and M.M. Yuusha – pretty much entire my viewing list in two days (save Mondays with Sakurasou)

    1. The decision here is that writing for pure comedies is hard. Once you start explaining jokes and discussing pure logistics, the whole deal gets dry fast (at least for us), and we feel guilty not being able to discuss more in-depth topics. Even though a sizable number of the writers will watch it…writing about a joke is another matter.

Be assured though, there will be SOMEONE who will intro it. ^_^

    1. Although there are no guarantees in the slightest, I can say we’re having some backroom discussion as to what’ll happen with Amnesia (keh keh keh :3). I can assure you it’ll at least get an introduction, but anything above that is still under discussion. We don’t want to make promises to you guys we can’t guarantee keeping–we’d rather omit coverage than be late and make people sadface :(.

  1. Unlisted is…unlisted? Is he retired or still on hiatus?
Yay Takaii is back! Good to see him on board again.

But ugh, it’s Fridays and Saturdays that are loaded again for me. Great…
Looking forward to the new season and the coverage.

    1. The airing schedule we use did say Tuesday for a little bit, but it seems to be Thursday again. From what I’m looking at now, there will be Tuesday airings of R;N, but of the previous episode rather than the current.

We’ll be keeping an eye on this and will verify when we can though.

    1. Oh whoops! An error on our part!

Stilts is carrying over Sakurasou and picking up Maoyuu (like a boss)

Moomba is carrying over Uchuu Kyoudai and Aoi Sekai, while picking up Sasami-san and Mondai-ji!

      Zanibas
    2. Stilts is covering Sakurasou no Pet no Kanojo and Maoyuu Maou Yuusha.

Moomba is covering Uchuu Kyoudai, Sasami-san@Ganbaranai, Mondai-Ji-tachi ga Isekai kara Kuru Sou Desu yo?, and Aoi Sekai no Chuushin de.

  2. Seriously why does RC writers continue to pretend that shirokuma cafe doesn’t exist from its schedule?? It still runs on Thursday, you know. It has been ever since it was covered and then dropped (not because it sucked, but because the writer decided to cover a different show for his/her personal reason two seasons ago).

What, you drop a show from coverage, then it no longer exists? It was banished from fall 2012 schedule and I thought it was an error, but two seasons in a row smells like a boycott. What gives? It’s just really bizarre. It’s probably the best show that was dropped at RC in a recent memory. Especially all these other non-shows that won’t be covered listed on schedule, this continued omission makes zero sense. It’s a time somebody addresses this snub (how hard can it be to add another box and stick that in?).

    deathtogenericshows
    1. generic, it’s not a boycott, it’s just an oversight on the people who format and create the schedule post. Not everything is a conspiracy! Again, please refrain from being quick to be accusatory as we have no ill intention towards Shirokuma, Panda, Penguin, and friends!

But you are correct that I didn’t drop it out of suckiness. 😛

Edit: I got clarification from the staff– we include shows that premiere this season, as well as shows that carry over from last season that are covered by us. “’cause if we’re doing that we now need to add Aikatsu, Gintama, and Bakuman 3…oh and Ixion Saga DT.”

      Zanibas
      1. Zanibas. I should add that my ranting above might’ve sounded like taking really teeny tiny issue (almost non-issue such as “snubbing a show from schedule”) way too seriously and yes in a way, I was. It IS one of my favorite shows, after all, so I took two-in-a-row snub a bit personally. Curiously those shows you mentioned, “Aikatsu, Gintama, and Bakuman 3”, were listed on Fall 2012 schedule while “only” Shirokuma cafe wasn’t, which puzzled me at the time.

Anyway, okay, at least it’s consistent across the board now and no longer a selective omission, so I can live with this omission.

        deathtogenericshows
      2. but wait, why is “JoJo’s Bizzare Adventure The Animation”, for instance, still listed? I don’t believe that show was ever covered at RC. Hmmm… I suppose it’s not yet 100% entirely consistent after all! Ah so close. I almost bought that, Zanibas. Oh well, I’ve raised the point, so now I move on.

        deathtogenericshows
    1. What do you mean “most” exactly?

A vast majority of series last season were covered on time (24-48 hours post subs). Just because a few shows were consistently late does not reflect on the entirety of the season’s coverage.

  3. Verdanttt WHERE YOU BE AT HOMESLICED FRIED PATATOES!? DUDEEEE NEKOMONOGATARI IS OUTTTT!
WEEEE DEMAND the HUGE 4 EPs COVERAGE FROM YOUUUU! youuuuuu?!
ERROOOO. You have been summoned. the conch has been blown.
    go forth! and tanx.

    1. just clear your schedule psycho-what? forgetit! youre missing out on BOOBS + pussy…cat! (yeah you readit) damned mayan calander was right all is not well! in the animeblogospheres! Teh Guy dat supposed to cover teh show is nowheres to be founded?! noooooooo noooooooooo nooooooooooooooooooooo
end dramatic scene with city overview to world to glaxy then back and zoom in on some boobs
      the end.

      GoodStuffs
  4. What happened to the good ol drawing straws method? For Tamako Market at least?

Now that the schedule is out, I just want to point out something that I’ve noticed since the preview – There’s A WHOLE LOT of 2-cour shows carrying over from Fall, and this list is proof of that – just look at the list.

    Carrying over (7+3):
Space bros (not from fall but still)
    Fairy Tale (see above)
Aoi sekai (technically still from Fall)
    Magi
    Sakurasou
    PP
    RN
    Tempest
    SSY
    LB

    New (8):
    Sasami (M)
    Vivid Red (Ze)
    Haganai NEXT (T)
    Maoyuu (S)
    Mondaji (M)
    Chihayafuru 2 (GE)
    OreShura (Za)
    AKB0048(Ze)

So yes..more than half the shows are shows from the previous year. But hey, I’m not complaining, most of the shows that do carry over deserve to have 2-cours.

Regarding who does what: I don’t know if it is just me but the picks start to feel a little “predictable” – not that it is a bad thing at all, no.

Going by the polls, out of the top 10, 7 are covered. Minami-ke is in its 4th? season hence rather “established” so not surprising it wasn’t picked up. Amnesia looks rather anticipated despite it being an otome game, and I’m guessing Mochi would have opted to cover that if it wasn’t for her RL priorities (scary word there), so that’s a pity. Senren Kagura, *looks at Stilts >_>* No?

Personally, I’m a little sad that Senran Kagura and Kotoura-san (Hana Kana! T_T) missed the cut but well we can’t have everything, can we? Last but not least, I’m glad to see that Takaii is back – it’s good to have you back sir, don’t forsake us for the dark side!

  5. I will miss seeing posts about cuticle tantei inaba but chihayafuru 2 will help me cope. Thanks RC staff for your hard work! Stumbling on this site has pretty much re-ignited my love of anime 🙂

    Maevin
    1. I plan to do a single post covering eps 14-17 since they all aired together. Sorry for the delay, I’ve been busy with holiday festivities =) I am sure everyone can relate lol. But be back soon, I’ll try and get it out asap so readers can discuss ^^

      Show Spoiler ▼

  6. Probably gonna give all the shows you guys are covering a shot of 1 ~ 3 episodes.
Except for Amnesia (i don’t swing ”that” way) and AKB0048 (haven’t given the first season a shot, won’t give this season a shot as well).

Besides that i’m going to watch Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai NEXT till the end (I liked the first season and the blond otaku with huge breast. I like huge breasts.)
Watch Senran Kagura because of the guilty pleasure (hehehe),
Watch the ENTIRE Minami-Ke series (No paticular reason, i’m just bored because of the one week hiatus)
And of course Ore no Kanajo, because of the title (yes, i’m expecting THAT much of Sakurasou, even if it only shares the word kanojo) and well. It’s a harem. That itself is a valid reason to start a show or even an entire war.

  7. Seriously f**k the haters, you guys and girls do great work blogging these shows every season, and its kind of a shame to see people rip on you for what you do. I’ve been following RandomC since the early Omni days and your blog holds up consistently every season as one of the most entertaining and the one I always turn to for some anime blog goodness.

I’m glad you people invest so much of your time into this, keep it up and I look forward once again to another season with RandomC.

    Thundershock81
  8. I think you guys not covering most of the anime’s we “Girls” Are planing to watch is wrong…
    Like not covering “AMNESIA!”
You have just lost a user who’s told her friends about this website.
I mean two of the anime’s that just ended you didn’t cover that we “Girls” were watching.
But not to cover “AMNESIA!” this time…. I won’t be telling my friends or anyone I know and meet of this website now…

    1. Sometimes, good things happen to those who wish earnestly and ask politely. Those who threaten? Less so.

Also, allow me direct your attention to the following paragraph from the post:

As always, this is a tentative overview of RandomC’s plans for the new season. We’ll also be doing introductory posts about many of the shows we’re not covering, so if something catches one of our eyes, things will be shifted around to accommodate

Who knows what’ll happen. Telling us we’re “wrong” for how we spend our free time won’t won’t help make that happen, though. Just a tip, ma’am : )

      Stilts
    2. What do you mean by shows we “girls” are watching? O_o because I’m a female writer/reader and I see no reason why “girls” wouldn’t enjoy the shows that RC has chosen to blog.

If you’re saying that we don’t blog enough certain GENRES that are targeted towards women, then I’m sorry that our tastes don’t collide. Personally speaking, I don’t limit my tastes to certain shows that are aimed at “girls”. I loved shows like Tonari but I also love Shin Sekai and R;N so… When you says “anime’s we “girls” are planning to watch”, I’m afraid you’ll have to be more specific -_- just because we don’t tailor to an individual’s tastes, doesn’t mean you should generalize to include the entire female species.

Also keep in mind that as writers, we aren’t going to blog a show if it doesn’t interest us. Its very hard to continue watching something for 12+ weeks when you don’t care to spend 3-4 hours every week making a SINGLE post. Please be a little more considerate next time you voice your concerns. We have a variety of writers covering 18 shows… I’m sure something covered has to interest you.

P.S. I do plan to cover the first ep of AMNESIA. If it interests me since I’m a “girl”, I’ll continue blogging it.

      1. Thanks for replying to that. I like this blog a lot and it was pretty much a post that no male could object to the topic of “female interests not being addressed” without sounding like a busybody.

        D
    3. Your comment alone reflects your childishness. To be honest, I don’t think RC needs anyone to spread news about this website. It’s already popular enough IMO. Anyway, I am sure other blogs will cover Amnesia, given that this is an otome, and rest assured that otome animes will never run out of fans.

      MUAHAHAHAHAHA
    4. “We girls”. You are literally judging what should and shouldn’t be watched by your entire gender, which means that you’re either full of deep insight or just a bigoted feminist who believes that people who spend their free time to bring enjoyment to others have to bend over backwards to cater to the needs of your selective group.
I for one believe that they are not obliged to do anything, just as you are not obliged to visit this site if you don’t wish to.

  9. What is going on? Where is Nekomonogatari on this list? Random Curiosity is the reason I got into Bakemonogatari! The series just started & is already on the second episode! I only just found out today. What is happening?

    1. Nekomonogatari aired in a single two hour block on the 31st of December (a little like a movie really). In that sense, it’s a completed series so it’s not on the schedule as it normally would be. We’ll be covering it in a post though so don’t worry!

      Moomba
      1. thnx for the update! (even if you no one answered me… not that im sulking just sayin D:)
since everyones dying to know! the half PINK half PURPLe elephant in this space MUSTT be addressed? so if VERDANT is going to pass on the coverage who will take on the TASK!>?

  10. Looks like I’ll end up watchign 1 anime on Tuesday(AMNESIA) , 2 on Thursday(Yama no Susume and Tamako Market) , 1 on Friday(Sasami-san@ Ganbaranai) and 1 on Sunday(Shin Sekai Yori)…
So im definetly going to have to drop either Tamako Market or Yama no Susume…and looks like I’ll be keeping Tamako Market , because the fact the writers are figting to cover it seems like a hopeful sign for wether its worth watching or not…

    Aki-Chan
  11. Reading some comments, I can’t help but wonder if those people who are complaining about their shows not being covered and etc, etc, etc have ever considered the fact that these writers are doing it for free and at the expense of their own time, which they could use for real life stuff.

I just want to say, I have been a loyal reader since Omni’s era, and I do appreciate all your hard work. It doesn’t matter to me which shows you are picking up;I enjoy reading them all. Thanks! <3<3<3

  12. Winter has always done well in my opinion to provide a great selection of anime to watch and this year doesn’t appear to be any exception. Definitely looking forward to seeing how many gems are uncovered to start the new year as well as getting the much wanted conclusions to several of the fall season hits.

    Yasuri
  13. Here’s hoping for someone to pick up AMNESIA. Hell, part of me wants to say “I’LL DO IT LET ME DO IT” but I’ve played the game and fandisk and have the sequel preordered so I’m super biased and really bad at not spoiling.

  14. AITAKATTA!! AITAKATTA!! AITAKATTA!! YEAY! KIMI NI!!!

I’m glad that AKB0048 will be review by RC because I LOVED it so much!!
Thank you and good luck, can’t wait for the first review of AKB0048!!

    Nurul Fatin Nor Hazhar
    1. It’s the latter. Trust me, people are ON it, but there are some logistics, such as school and work, that are thorning it up.

We’d be dead if we didn’t get on a KyoAni show, faster than the speed of the Unseen Horizon.

      Zanibas
  15. Some one needs to pick up minami ke.

I’m just glad you guys covered hirro last season as far as more niche shows are. Looks like Zephyr and enzo will be my main writers this winter as they are covering the shows I’m most interested in, hope you guys at RC had a nice break. I really enjoyed 2012 lets hope 2013 will be another good year.

  16. My gawd…. What’s with this new show, Kotoura-san?? I’m actually mighty impressed with this absolutely brutal, brutal angst for the 1st half of the show. I recoil from dreadful pseudo-teenage angst in comedic dramas all the day long, but this 1st half angst is something else! Out of this world, in a totally different league. I actually liked it as it was so over the top. I don’t think I’ve seen such angst before… Not sure if it’s M or S (or both) in me that resonate on this. Here I was, expecting yet another silly and fun comedy show since the character looks awfully similar to Mitsudomoe, but my gawd~~~. That awesome angst came out of nowhere.

I submit to you all that it’s one of the best angst ever in the recent memories. And that alone should be worth while to watch for 12 min even if you don’t plan to watch the rest and on. Admittedly the brutal angst was shattered in the mid-point and the show turned to more of a predictable show with slight edges (I didn’t care too much about the pseudo-teenage angst scene towards the end though. Yes, it was justifiable, but the tone had changed. What’s with the soft music to milk the emotions? Ditto for the shouting and crying routine in a manner that I can only describe as “Japanese anime pseudo-teenage angst scene”) And this second half is what I expect this show to be going forward, but hot damn. That first half was something else!! Mighty impressed I am.

Any writer doing the first impression treatment for this show?

    deathtogenericshows
    1. Ah, those images probably didn’t make it from the last site transfer we had…that’s weird. Unfortunately I don’t think there’s a backup anywhere from that time, so we might not be able to get the images unless we recap.

      Zanibas
    1. I agree, I am surprised that not many major anime blogs are covering The Unlimited, which I consider the only show of the season that I find worth watching. I hope that someone decides to cover it, as it deserves.

I actually think a lot of people are turned away by the fact that its a spin-off of a show nobody watched. That didn’t turn me away as the premise sound too promising. And you know what? I am so glad that I did. You don’t need to watch the first series, as it really sits in its own world. This is one of the best shows I’ve seen in a year or so.
