Uchuu Kyoudai – 47

「最初の約束」 (Saisho no Yakusoku)
“The First Promise”

Misdirection can be a fun device to use. Though only a small part of the episode, the secret behind Mutta’s coffee was pretty cool really, especially in how it was handled. The implication originally seemed to be that it was some deep reflection of his state of mind, something I could totally see Uchuu Kyoudai doing, and it made the reveal that it was no more than another of Murasaki’s pranks quite funny to watch! He really seems to get around and his nickname – ‘Ninja‘ – is certainly fitting in more ways than one.

What surprises me is Mutta’s reaction to all this. As someone who dreamed of being an astronaut and undoubtedly did an inordinate amount of research into the subject, I find it strange that he would be surprised by the prospect that astronaut training will be incredibly tough. Even I’m aware of this fact and I’m just some anime blogger with only a passing interest in astronaut training. I would’ve thought that the difficulty of astronaut training (which is what puts many people off in the first place) and that you’re not guaranteed to go into space even as an astronaut would be facts he’d be well aware of.

It doesn’t seem like things are going to go well for him. We’re well beyond the point where there’s any doubt that Mutta will succeed, but it looks like it’s going to be quite a rocky road now that Vince has singled him out. I would guess we’re going to get more of a taste of that next episode! Amanti Patel (Tsunematsu Ayumi) is an interesting one too – apparently accurately being able to read these things. It shouldn’t be much of a surprise given how much stock Uchuu Kyoudai likes to give to minor supernatural things of similar nature like luck.

This arc seems to be introducing a new mystery stemming from events surrounding Nitta. Who is it he wants to live with him? I’m guessing it’s the little brother he denied having – I wonder what the circumstances are there. Who is this ‘little brother’ and why does Nitta not want to acknowledge him? I imagine we’ll be finding out more soon enough!

tl;dr: @MoombaDS – A new mystery, misdirection, and more of the supernatural! #SpaceBros

Random thoughts:

  • I’m fairly sure I made the comparison between NASA and theatre once before!
  • Poor Apo, that’s certainly a terrifying statue!
  • I’d agree those definitely look quite toxic.
  • Typically, Serika’s first thoughts are of the supermarket and kitchen!
  • Drawing on people’s faces with permanent marker is really mean!

I’m glad we’ll finally be learning more about Nitta. He’s been around for so long now, and we barely know anything about him.

Is this show gonna stop in a couple more episodes and continue later in the year or is this series just gonna keep running week after week?

At least there will be a decent spring 2013 season with stuff to watch if this goes on break til later in the year with the return of Hyakka Ryouran Samurai Girls and Railgun is back as well for Spring Anime season.
