「ハイスクール・オブ・ザ・ヒート」 (Haisukuuru ・ Obu ・ Za ・ Hiito)
“High School of The Heat”

Just as Mahiro said, this week’s episode felt a little too close to what happened just a few weeks ago. And while I’ll never complain about listening to that awesome little vacuum cleaner shout out “Cyclone, Cyclone!” I never expected that all the foreshadowing about just how ridiculous Nyaruko was at playing card games would ever matter. Apparently though, the writers for this show can take just about anything and role with it.

And in true Nyaruko fashion, we end up with some flashy villain who has the power to easily obliterate every on screen and instead falls victim to his own tactics due to the fact they took the stupidest route at trying to learn earth’s culture. Sure, some people would say that this is exactly how the show should be but if you take a closer look at things there was a stark difference between what happened during this episode versus any of the previous ones! And that my friends would be just how compassion Mahiro was showing for everyone (excluding Hasta who’s been labeled as an outcast). I mean, if you compare how he was during the beginning of the season when it looked like the reset button had been pressed to how he was this week, I’m sure you’ll agree that he’s definitely being a lot more open with both Nyaruko and Cthuko.

Which leads me to believe that maybe, just maybe, something emotionally compelling will arise somewhere amongst all the jokes and cameos in this show. Sure it’s tough to believe that Mahiro will be honest with himself and actually admit that he likes either Nyaruko or Cthuko but I wouldn’t mind a few more intimate moments between all of them before the season comes to a close. Besides that, I’m just happy that the series hasn’t lost my attention — something that happened during the first season because of how stale it got by the end. On to next week!

  1. With so much foreshadowing that even jumps back a few episodes, I really can’t tell what’s going to happen anymore, so I just watch for the fun of it. =p

Apparently the titles of future episodes might hold a clue?

    1. I’m glad that they didn’t actually have her say “I’m wet/getting wet”. The delivery of the line in HOTD was something of a letdown for what was supposed to be the climax of the episode. Better to just have it referenced and not repeat the same failure.

  2. Just figured I’d give you a heads up about mistakes in the writing.
“who has the power to easily obliterate every on screen”

“And that my friends would be just how compassion Mahiro was showing for everyone”

Anyways, I wholly agree with the last paragraph. It’s nice to see the series goofing around, but they wouldn’t implement serious moments if they weren’t planning to head anywhere with it. They’ll probably give us a bit of satisfaction before ending the season, but I don’t think any conclusion will arise this season, personally.

  3. I remember when Kuuko was first introduced and I wasn’t too fond of her.
Now she is both my favorite character on the show (sorry Nyarko, but you got tiring) and think she is a better option for Mahiro.

  4. Man… whoever did this must like their Kamen Rider references (can’t blame them). The whole “Joker, Cyclone” from Kamen Rider W gets me every time. Now they somehow need to throw “Heat” or “Metal” in there.
