Good Morning everyone! Takaii here, and I just wanted to make a quick post about how excited I am about this year’s Anime-Expo Convention at the Los Angeles Convention Center! Not only does it seem like the schedule for this year’s con is packed to the brim with crap to do, but with names like Porno Grafitti, Danny Choo, and George Wada attending I’m sure most of us will be busy running around back and forth between the Great Hall and the Panels. But in-between the mayhem of looking for cool stuff to buy and trying to meet all those famous people, I’d love to meet you!

If you’ve ever seen Divine in the comments, you’ll know that he’s totally against having any kind of meetup in real life. And if you remember my retort, you’ll know that I’m totally in favor of having some kind of crazy meet up! Seeing how I attempted to meet RandomC readers last year and completely failed (I did meet PockyG in person and Kim_Pine in spirit though) I’m going to attempt to set something up this time around. Seeing how both Kairi and Xumbra (Our Lead Technology Specialist) will both be at the convention on Friday, let’s see if we can’t somehow meet up right!? I don’t want to state any specific places just yet since things can get hectic during the con, but make sure to check out my twitter @randomc_takaii throughout the day for updates and stupid pictures! And if enough people care/show up on Friday, let’s try to take over the tables near the Starbucks on the second floor should all other plans fail! That way we’ll have somewhere comfortable to sit *__*.

Besides that, I don’t really have much else to say! For my own personal plans, I’ll probably be drifting around everywhere but mostly around the Great Hall or near where they setup the cool Mirai cars. So if you see someone rocking that awesome shirt Chappy designed a few years back that has RandomC written on it, feel free to come over and say hi!

But in all seriousness I hope that everyone who is going has a great time and if you aren’t, YOU TOTALLY SHOULD! Hope to see y’all next week!

  1. This is the time I’m sad I don’t live in the US(of course japan would be even better though). There haven’t been and I doubt there ever will be any anime conventions in my country.Although I think that Europe as whole is not a good continent for anime fans to be in 🙁

Oh well, now you guys have the responsibility to enjoy yourselves for the sake of those of us who can’t go as well so HAVE FUN!

    1. Japan Expo says hi, it takes place from 4th to 7th July, in Paris, and it’s pretty big. We even had a FLOW concert last year.

There are conventions frequently(1/month average) of varying size around or in Paris, I don’t know about your country though.

  2. I’d love to go to Anime Expo. Unfortunately, I am a lowly Canadian and there’s no way I can justify a $900+ money-sink to California just to satiate my desire to attend the biggest anime convention in North America.

It’s extremely tempting *twitch* but I *twitch* will persevere. *twitch*

      1. Like I said, biggest anime con in North America. I’ve been to Anime North, and while it was pretty good, the guest list just isn’t even close to Anime Expo’s.

And I have very self depreciating humor, I’m not really being serious. Either way, thanks for the positive input.

    1. Canadian here too , i missed my chance for Anime North this year cause I was working but I plan on going next year but for the past 2 years I attented Fan Expo , which isn’t only focused in anime but it does have anime stuff! Its pretty fun I’d recommend going

    1. Been going since 2010 and I have to say that this is the first year where I’m not too thrilled about the guest line up, which consists of mostly producers, directors, animators, and character designers. This may be great for some but unfortunately I only look forward to seiyuu / music guests every year, making this the first AX where I’m probably not going to have much to look forward to doing (kinda like Fanime 2013 and 2012).

Otakon, on the other hand, seems to have taken all the guests that would’ve made this year’s AX great, so good for them.

  3. Takaii, I’m elated to see that you mentioned me in a post, it feels like such a great treat.

I have some bad news for you though.
I did not go to AX last year.
    I’ve never attended AX before.
I’ve never been to California before.
Hell, I’ve never been further west than Texas in the US.

Sorry to disappoint, but you did not meet me before, though, if given the chance, I would be all over it.

      1. tsk tsk Takaii. We didn’t meet last year either. Though we were twitter tagging each other for a while. This year for sure though!
It’d be great to meet Kim Pine IRL though. I’m sure we’d debate endlessly the whole time. 😛

  4. Awh, I was almost going to this, but we planned it for next year cause we were a bit to late in planning. I’m from the Netherlands so visiting something like this takes some time and money. Instead I’ll be at Japan Expo in Paris on the same date! I hope you’ll have just as much fun as me 😉 enjoy!

  5. It should be another great year Takaii! It’d be great to get a RandomC group to hang out with this year. My friends are busy so they can’t make it this year so I got no one to nerd out with at AX. qq
I have no specific plans except for a couple of the main events so it’d be great to chat in some of the panel lines or lunch.
    Hope to see you there!

  6. I can’t stay with RC people all day since I’m going with a non-blogsphere friend and she’ll be like “wtf is with all these people?” but I’m happy to say hi; I’ll be hanging with Xum and Takaii for a while too.

  7. Have fun at Anime Expo, guys!

I was originally going to go (never been to California), but with TM Revolution, Home Made Kazoku, YOKO KANO (!) and Tomokazu Seki at Otakon this year (and also with Otakon being closer to home), looks like Anime Expo will have to wait another year or so. 😀

    1. And the last three episodes of Oreimo 2 if you’re into that. Fushimi Tsukasa and Kanbe Hiroyuki (The novel’s creator and the anime’s director respectively) will be at the screening.

    2. Wish I could go to Otakon. :0 I’ve never been to another state. D: However, I am majorly happy with the AX guest list; we’re getting Makoto Shinkai! :0000 It’s a shame we won’t be able to meet Aerie. D:

      1. I’m jealous you guys have Kazuhiko Inoue. Hope someone makes him say something in his Nyanko-sensei voice!

Makoto Shinkai is definitely a treat. He was at Otakon in 2011, the first time con I ever went to. He’s such a chill dude, really quiet. But maybe that’s because that year we had Nobuo Uematsu (composer of all the Final Fantasy music) who was super enthusiastic and funny, extroverted compared to Shinkai. Someone asked Uematsu what he wanted to be if he wasn’t a composer and he replied:

        A:”Being a pro wrestler.”
Q:”Why didn’t you follow through with that dream?”
A:”Well, I’m kind of small. But maybe if I had immigrated to Mexico….”

We shall (hopefully) meet some other time, Kairi! Have tons of fun. 😀

  8. Sigh. I’ll be up here in Canada. Just doing my thing. If any of you ever come down up to Canada, you should do AnimeNorth, or ConBravo, or Con-G. We have events too!

  9. When I used to live in LA, I saw a big crowd outside one of the stadiums and was SUPER excited when I noticed the big Anime expo banner!!! Really unfortunate that I couldn’t make it though…. ='(

I wanna see the actual seiyus one day and song performances. I wonder if I missed the Okamoto Nobuhiko arrival…sigh…just remembering makes me sad that I missed the excitement.
