「支えスタイル , ぬぎあともっこり, 戦う少女たち」 (Sasae Sutairu, Nugi ato Mokkori, Tatakau Shoujotachi)
“Support Style, Pitching a Tent after the Deed, Fighting Girls”

After hurting my back and being almost bed-ridden for a few days, I bring to you another great episode of the show we all love to watch but refrain from talking about at the dinner table.

Throwing decency out the window (YES!)

It could be the medicine I’m taking, but something about this week’s episode just felt so right. Building off of last week’s momentum, I loved how straight from the get-go SYD* was throwing some great material at us. From ripped dudes pitching tents to the pondering whether or not sweat or piss is the better drink for summer — this episode was just doing everything right.

Blowing your load, everywhere.

If the idea of golden showers isn’t down your alleyway, this week’s mini-gag reel was pretty amazing. Toning things down a bit, SYD* reminded us that it can still make us laugh without cock slapping us in the face. That said, I do have one comment about the speed reading gag. If you had a photographic memory and the ability to read as fast as Suzu, wouldn’t you have realized after a couple pages that you should probably stop? That is, unless Suzu was lying about her abilities…

Swimsuits and Judo?

After literally blowing its load all over us before the halfway mark, I never thought that the second half of the episode would have been as entertaining as it was. After seeing Shino in a new swimsuit, I started to question why other high school’s don’t add accents to their school mizugis. Not only do they look pretty stellar with different shades of blue accenting a girls figure but something about that more modern backside would probably encourage students guys to stay in school! Besides the awesome mizugis, a couple other things stuck out to me. Things like Hata’s patented way of always having that perfect smile and Aria’s attempt at becoming a man.

In terms of the Judo Club or rather Mitsuba, I was actually caught off guard when the show reminded us that she’s one of the few innocent students left. Not that it really matters since she’s completely focused on her Judo Club but I wonder at times how she manages to keep that mind of hers so clean with every other person ready to take things to the next level. On the other hand, it seems that being focused on a goal and not wasting time with silly jokes leads to the entire school having a huge assembly to send you off to intramurals. Not a bad trade, eh?

SYD SHOPPING and the Future!

Two episodes in a row, SYD is doing a great job at maintaining that magical feeling its first season left us with. With a nice gag to boob ratio, there’s never a dull moment while you wait for the next joke to hit. Add in side characters like Mitsuba or Kotomi who manage to shake things up in their own unique way and you have the perfect combination of stuff to make a great SYD episode!

However, I do hope the production values go back up soon. There was almost too much use of chibi-styled art in this episode ;__;

      1. Well, its well known that Aria goes commando most (more like everytime) of the time. And her chastity belt guards one part…. it probably leaves the other one unguarded… and she does have a history of pleasuring herself with that part as well 😉

      1. AFAIK, they refer to it indirectly with asoko (lit. “over there”), maybe joseiki (lit. “female instrument”) If you wanted to refer to it directly I guess the anatomical/medical term would be chitsu

    1. To be more precise, they said that the clothes were worn at the “Omaan kokusai joshi marason”, which translates as “Oman International Female Marathon”.

The joke is that it’s a pun on “Omanko kusai joshi marason”. “Kusai” means “stinky”. You can figure out the rest.

    2. @Asta & Wibnice: Thanks for clarifying.

Thing about SYD is that there’s a LOT of word play involved = challenging for TL/proofers. Another example this episode was the “anti-underage drinking slogan” joke. Not sure what the actual word play involved was, but manga TL had a good, creative way of handling that IMO.

JMO, but of the two English sub groups I’ve watched so far, IMO UTW is doing the better job.

  1. More Ranka this week. This BD volume will sell! On the speedreading I once knew a woman who read like Suzu and comprehended what she read only after it was complete. She said while she read it was like a blur going by. You figure it out when the blur passes. For her anyways she used to pause in between chapters to get the most out of it. She could tell me what ws on a page if I asked while only then thinking about the contents. Maybe it keeps from overloading? *shrugs*

  2. With the budget the first couple of episodes went through, I wouldn’t be surprised if the animation quality went down after that. But didn’t we come for the constant dick & sex toy jokes instead of the beautifully rendered “Suzu’s Head”?
