「カボチャ、グローウィン!」 (Kabocha Gurooin!)
“Glowing Pumpkin!”

In a rather unexpected move, it seems we’ll have to wait at least one more week before things start getting serious.

Four Episodes in One?

In a rather unexpected move, this week’s episode felt like a throwback to the old 90’s cartoons with that distinct separation between skits. While I’m not quite sure what the episode as a whole was trying to accomplish, I’ll admit that it was pretty fun to see just how much of a pickle Meme got herself into with that crappy memory of hers. While it not have affected her directly, it does make me curious about just how many sticky situations she’s ended up in before.

Baseball for Dummies

Maybe Tsugumi should have said “Cricket” for Anya but it’s pretty tough for me to believe that someone in this day and age would have no idea what baseball is. Seeing how it’s crossed borders and become popular in other countries as well as foreign players making it big in America — an wealthy and intelligent girl like Anya should have at least some idea of what it is. At least, that’s what I want to believe. Because after watching her successfully hit Tsugumi’s pitch like a true fighter, I was a bit speechless in both a good and bad why.

Looking Forward to Halloween

While I was almost 100% confident that nothing important would happen, the last few minutes of the episode managed to reel me back in with the promise of what’s to come. With Shaula brought back into the spotlight and Sid and company still searching any leads that might lead them to her, I’m really hoping the last few episodes start to ramp things up. But let’s not forget about the big decision that Tsugumi needs to make soon. I read down in the comments that some of you think she’ll end up getting the best of both worlds but the feelings I’m getting from the show leads me to think otherwise.

Anyways, what did you think of the episode? Did you enjoy that change in the format? See you down in the comments!

  1. I want a Bat Whistle!
The “slice of dorm” life episode really underscored the difference from regular SE.
But with Shaula seemingly poised to execute whatever master plan she has worked on, it seems that things are going to hit the fan soon…
    “Trick or treat!”

  2. Great character moments for Meme. I feel like they should have shown up earlier in the story, but whatever.

Watching this spinoff is a weird experience. It’s so outside of my normal interests, and while it isn’t bad it’s sadly not as good as the original Soul Eater… but I’m fascinated anyway and look forward to it every week. I guess I’m just really into the living weapon premise and I like the sincerity of the characters. I care about them, which is far more than I can say about a lot of characters on a lot of other shows lately.

I wonder honestly if this show could eventually benefit from a fan edit, one that tightens it up and compresses it down to something snappier.

  3. The bit with Meme’s memory issues was one of the chapters from the manga I was particularly looking forward to, because even though the situations were in and of themselves ridiculous, it shows that Meme’s situation isn’t really a laughing matter. It is honestly frightening for her to end up somewhere with no idea how she got there or what she was doing, and she truly fears losing the memories of people and things that are important to her, no matter how hard she tries to cling to them.

As for next week… I don’t know what’s going to happen. I’m not sure who, if anyone, Tsugumi will chooose in the long run, either. Tsugumi still fears conflict: she can’t bring herself to hurt either of her friends by choosing one over the other. Until she can gain the strength of character to really start focusing on the reasons why she should choose one of them, rather than all the reasons why she doesn’t want to have to choose between them, she’s not going to make any progress.

  4. I wish Blair appeared as a casino worker when Meme was there. … come on! This episode had PUMPKINS!! It was a give-in!

Looks like we’re getting all the happy, sunshine, light fare out of the way, so Episode 10 onward can have more drama in preparation for the finale.

  5. No action but still a solid episode. I guess they have to keep up Anya’s ignorance of the outside world to keep the joke running. Unless we find out in the near future her waelthy parents kept her locked up in the basement.

Meme and Anya are all kind of cute. How can Tsugumi chan choose?! I’m of the camp that she will not have her cake and eat it too. She will have to choose, and I’m betting it’s Meme. Or perhaps one of them dies in the upcoming epis….pfft who am I kidding.

  6. Pretty cute chapter, although the part about Meme’s memory trouble was slightly disturbing. Having read the manga, that story is far creepier there, to the point that it makes you wonder if Asura or Medusa were working their magic…
I’m having hard time to decide which one was better so I’ll just say I liked both.

Baseball chapter was fun, Tsugumi was on fire.
I think at some point those three started to miss the original point of their singing. Not that I’m complaining 😀

  7. Her memory loss thing, is like in Code Geass. A hidden personality perhaps, or someone take over when she sleeps. Someone is hidden in her Subconscious perhaps

Well, perhaps next Episode give us an answer

      1. I kind of got that from the “Not” part of the title. Still, as I said, the first episode had me fooled; or maybe was my wishful thinking. (should’ve paid more attention to the season preview)
