Now that the fall preview is out, it’s time to give you a first look at some of the shows we’ll be blogging. This is Random Curiosity’s Fall 2014 blogging schedule.

As always, this is a tentative overview of our plans for the new season. We’ll also be doing introductory posts on many of the shows we’re not covering, so if something catches our eyes, things will be shifted around to accommodate. The schedule will be updated to reflect any changes.

As usual, DO NOT PANIC! We’re still figuring out what shows we want to blog, and there will be a lot of intro posts before we settle on our picks. We allow ourselves to blog 1-3 episodes before a blogging decision must be made. Here are just a few of the shows we’re planning to introduce:

That doesn’t mean all of those will get picked up, but we’re planning to introduce them, and I wouldn’t be surprised if a few of those (or a few others) get added to the schedule.

In site news, we have a few people going on temporary hiatus this season. Guardian Enzo and Zephyr are both taking a season off due to work (though Zephyr will still be blogging the Naruto manga), and Zanibas will be taking a break as well. Don’t panic! That’s why we recruited our marvelous newbies in Passerby and Samu, and they’re looking to fill in the gaps while others are off being productive members of society. (Bah! Sounds overrated to me.) Plus Kairi is back for a season, and takaii, Prooof, Cherrie, Divine, and I aren’t going anywhere. We’ll also be keeping up with the Monthly Impressions to fill in any gaps in our coverage.

Other than that, it’s looking like a busy season with a lot of anime to watch. Make sure to check in on this post periodically for additional pick ups (it will be added to the side bar shortly). Thanks for reading, and continue being as amazing as always.

Updates:

  • 10/7: The shoujo is strong with this blogger. Kairi will be covering Akatsuki no Yona!
  • 10/10: Passerby couldn’t let the fruit fall too far from the tree—he will be blogging Grisaia no Kajitsu.
  • 10/14: The guy who is definitely not the ecchi blogger is making his triumphant return to blogging funny fantasy harem shows. Stilts has picked up Trinity Seven!
  • 10/15: Shocking event! Hitsugi no Chaika, coverage. Blogger, Stilts. Grateful!
  • 10/15: It’s all aliens all the time for Samu, and this one is inside a hand. Samu will be blogging Kiseijuu: Sei no Kakuritsu.
  • 10/29: He’ll have to do his best Enzo impression, but I think he’s up to the challenge—Passerby will be blogging Mushishi.
  • 11/07: Kairi has dropped Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso.

  1. I guessed that Kairi would be the one to blog about Shigatsu (Samu gave a huge hint in a certain tweet of his). I’m a bit bummed that Stilts isn’t going to write about Madan (especially since he’s the only one who’ll be watching it), but whatever.

Oh,and I think there’s a bit of a mismatch between the numbers stated and the number of colour-coded squares in the table itself. Shouldn’t Cherrie be blogging about three shows and Takaii 2?

    N
    1. Mandan will probably get intro’d (and probably by me, what with that watch list, lol). There are some others I’m eyeing ahead of it though. Doesn’t mean it couldn’t happen, but we’ll see.

Also, fixed. Thks for the heads up (Also, GoukaRyuu).

      Stilts
  2. Stilts is back for Log Horizon 2! Well and good, since I got the impression wild horses couldn’t drag him away from it. 😉

PS: Just so someone can fix it, almost all of the links on the schedule point right back here to the schedule again, rather than to their respective shows in the preview. I was going to make more comments about who might be covering what and what I might want to watch, but the only two things I know by name are Log Horizon and Hitsugi no Chaika, so without the links to the preview I’d have to go check the other stuff out manually (which I’m too lazy to do right now).

    1. Welcome back Stilts. Good to see that you’re back to blogging another season of Log Horizon. DEEN animation quality aside, I don’t think you will be disappointed with what this season has install for us judging from the new OP.

      viss
    1. I know you probably didn’t mean it, but just FYI, saying “I wish someone else would have blogged these shows!” is rude to those who are blogging them. Cherrie and takkun are awesome, and they’ll take good care of them.

We’re all Div’s fans, so it’d be cool to see him blog pretty much anything—expect Log Horizon. Mine!—but he’s watching out for underrated shows for now.

Like I said, I know you didn’t mean any umbrage, so just a friendly heads up.

      Stilts
      1. Oops, sorry, I somehow thought that Takaii was only continuing SOA and missed that Psycho Pass was already Cherrie’s project.
I especially love reading Cherries Akame blog posts, so this was really by accident. Sorry to both Takaii and Cherrie.

  3. I’m a little surprised in a good way about the World Trigger pickup by Samu, it’s a fun shonen series that doesn’t really get a lot of hype (even now the anime is probably just a preface for Jump’s big new hits like Shokugeki no Soma and Assassination Classroom). Several of the series not picked up have a lot of people confirmed to watch already (Chaika, Akatsuki no Yona, and Nanatsu no Taizai of note), so I would not be surprised to see most if not all of them picked up after a week or two.

    Purple Bomber
  4. Surprised. Not picked. Chaika. (first time I tried the Chaika schtick :P)

Even without Chaika coverage, there are five shows I’m planning to watch or at least try out (“3 Ep. Rule”) already set for RC coverage by five different bloggers. So no complaints on my end. Frankly, I’ve been ready for the Summer Season to end for quite awhile now. Looking forward Fall Season coverage, and thanks in advance for the hard work RC staff. 😀

  5. It is a shame that no one is covering the 2 Gundam shows this season. You would think that a popular franchise like that would be snapped up relatively quickly, especially with G-Reco being Tomino’s return to the series.

    Ben9d2
      1. MAHQ will actually know what it’s talking about too which is good and I look forward to their ever entertaining Gundamn Podcasts on the shows. To be honest I’m not surprised at all though, none of the people that currently write for this site now seem particularly interested in Gundam or really anything beyond just the absolute most popular and hyped up shows on Crunchyroll and MAL that everybody is guaranteed to be watching except maybe Guardian Enzo who seems to be motivated by things beyond just basic popularity and being hip with trends.

Still we’ve finally arrived in the era where nobody even really wants to talk about Gundam anymore nor takes any interest whatsoever outside of Japan. It’s kind of a shame, but that’s just kind of how things are now with everybody only looking for the next big hype show while Gundam has just sort of lost that appeal I guess.

        John Hunt
      2. Now now, I wouldn’t broadly generalize about the site or the tastes or preferences of writers like that.

On the other note, while I would agree that Gundam isn’t as popular outside of Japan than it has been in the past, I know that at least myself and Divine are ardent fans of the series. The problem is that the series comes in at a bad time in terms of coverage. As you may already know, I’m on hiatus this season and won’t be able to cover either series, and at the moment Divine’s docket is also full with Argevollen carrying over. Does this mean that it won’t get covered? No. But there are reasons why it’s not being covered if it doesn’t. That said, Reconguista is going to at least get an introduction post, so there will be that to look forward to.

    1. Takaii, who is blogging SAOII, is not going on hiatus, and he’s given me no indication that he’s dropping coverage. It’s also on the schedule above. Unless that changes, coverage will continue.

      Stilts
      1. Thanks guys, but I actually ment to ask if the series will continue to be broadcasted or go on hiatus. I thought it would be two cour, but I guess your replies answer that question aswell. Keep up the good work!

        Inclemens
    1. I’ve been noticing it for a while, but I don’t think it’s just RC. I just sort of see it as a reflection of the general ongoing transition in anime fans interests and approach though towards just watching whatever show has the most hype and buzz around it instead of having their own interests and appreciations. It really doesn’t feel like anime culture is at all about what it was when I first got into things. Maybe it’s also just a reflection of the new streaming model that has changed the level of access and how shows make their first appeal now and also general hype and advertising makes a huge difference these days as does cliquism and gathering around that one show that is held up to be the AOTS. Everybody always seems to just be about the next big potential hyped up blockbuster anime and have lost their adventurousness when it comes to what they’ll check out.

Basically if you like blockbusters and “epic shows” (not necessarily in the traditional grand scale sense, just shows that are in your face “cool” which is what epic means now) you’re going to be well served, if you like anything less than the most in your face approach sci-fi bloody grimdark despairing bleeding edge obviously made to be popular and cash in on current trends with no other ambitions anime you’re probably SOL in having many people to talk with and reflect on about it cause people don’t care about those sorts of unhype things. That’s just how it is now, Hype>All.

      John Hunt
    2. Well that’s at least some acknowledgement. I know it’s not one of the big hype shows this season on Crunchyroll and the like so that’s something that people will probably learn to settle for before long. It’s not like it’s going to get completely ignored period either, just mostly by the hype crowd that seems to comprise the bulk of anime viewers nowadays.

      John Hunt
  6. I’m crossing my fingers for Akatsuki No Yona to be be blogged after the initial 3 episodes (I hope you guys like it). It sucks that Enzo is taking a break just when its a show I want to be blogged really badly comes out but its ok I know the guy needs a break from the internet world. I hope the rest of you guys enjoy it ^-^ also I heard it will be 2 cour which means I think it will make it to the second major arc in the series which is kind of a shame because I wanted to third arc to be animated too but oh well here is hoping the series does really well that it gets additional episodes.

    Hoshi
  7. Psst! Stilts! Keep an eye on Denki-gai no Honya-san! It’s a really well-executed manga, and with some luck, it should be a really good anime. (Or it could crash and burn… but I’m going to be hopeful for now.) It’s similar to Nozaki-kun, but with a slightly more otaku-ish leaning. (Okay, it’s heavily otaku, but still, pretty entertaining.) Oh crap! I’m overselling it! XD

    s_w
  8. I’m really saddened by Zephyr, Zanibas and Enzo going on a break… But I understand, real life is a tough b*tch, I even considered not watching anime this season due to RL problems but, baah – no use. Still, I’m glad that Kairi <3 is back (yay)! And we've got a new writer to boot (yay!), so I guess I'm not that sad ? HAHAHA 😀

Anyway, should be good season, and I'm positive that at least 4-5 shows will be added to that schedule after the third week. I'll be watching Akatsuki no Yona, Chaika, Kiseijuu, Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso and Log Horizon. Will still be continuing SAO II despite the disappointing pacing (ugh), mainly because I'm dying to watch the MR Arc. I'll be looking out for other interesting shows though. Any suggestions?

On a side note: Is anyone gonna blog about the AnoNatsu OVA ? 🙂

    // secondComment 🙂

    romcom_god
  9. Aghhh, so excited for Akatsuki no Yona! Really hoping it gets picked up, but we’ll see.

Still planning to watch Akatsuki no Yona, SAO II, Log Horizon, Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso and PP-2, along with a few others I’m sure.

  10. I hope we get an end to Log Horizon, what kept me interested(Besides it being a great series) is the mystery of how regular MMORPG players could get sucked through their monitor into a fantasy world game. At the very least I want an answer, not much seems to get a third season these days so I hope they wrap it by Episode 24.

    Lyfe
    1. I’m not going to lie, I didn’t know Log Horizon 2 was 2-cour. WOOHOO, YIPEE, YATTA!!

But I don’t know about it finishing. I remember someone saying there were only three light novels worth of source material left, and since they did six LNs during season one, 1-cour for season two made sense. If it’s really 2-cour and that’s not a mistake somewhere, that could actually be bad. Unless they’re doing side story material as well?

I’m going to go quietly fret in a corner now.

      Stilts
      1. You’re right there, currently 8 volumes of LH have been released. However, it seems ninth will be out during Autumn, so the second season will probably include that one as well.

As for the five leftover episodes (if the anime follows the 5 episodes per volume rule that worked pretty well last season)… Well, let’s say I’m not worried after seeing the opening. We might be in for a treat.

Will definitely be looking forward to Stilts blogging it!

        Erimaki
      2. @ Erimaki

Erh, they did ~4 episodes per LN volume last season. With 25 episodes, that means they’ll have 12-13 extra episodes.

Hopefully they’ll dip into the side stories, or they’re collaborating with Touno Mamare. Otherwise this could get weird.

        Stilts
      3. Are you sure? Because I’ve seen that Volume 8 comes out 09/29/2014. I haven’t heard of a 9th Light novel release, though I’m sure something will appear. The author will likely be working on it as the anime is made I guess.

        Lyfe
      4. @Lyfe: Ok, that was a massive brainfart on my part, messing up the amount of LNs like that. I meant the eighth novel when I wrote ninth. Thanks for pointing it out. I would guess the ninth will be out during this second season though, so Mamare working together with the anime staff to include it isn’t completely out of the picture (something like that is being done with Chaika, for instance)

@Stilts: Really? I was pretty sure it was 5… Though considering the huge brainfart I had with novel numbers, the amount of extra chapters wouldn’t change much from what you say anyways, whichever’s the case.

        Erimaki
      5. @Erimaki

I don’t think you made a mistake there regarding no. of episodes per book being adapted. It’s five episodes for each volume for S1 as in most of the episode titles are correspondent with the names of the novel chapters. Same thing goes with NGNL, another show Stilts enjoyed blogging, with four ch. in each book sharing the same name as ep. titles with few exceptions.

        @Stilts

Well, now I know that you aren’t responsible for double checking the number of episodes for each show this season since it clearly stated in RC Fall Preview that it’s 2-cour for LH2. Yes, s2 op pretty much confirms that at least one of the side story will be covered. IMO, it’s still possible to stretch things out without the need for excessive amount of anime original fillers. You know, SAO 2 up till this latest episode took only 2 volumes meaning 2 vol. = 14 ep and no fillers.

      6. @ viss

Yeah, I take care of editing the words; it’s another member of the team who takes care of those. Normally I would have noticed it in the process of editing, but I had to rush a bit to edit in between trips this season. So I got a pleasant surprise instead!

        Stilts
      7. I think there’s plenty of side material to fill up the extra space. Here are my thoughts, given the S2 op – very minor spoilers, but just in case I’ll tag it.

      8. @Erimaki

Perhaps you were onto something all along. I’ve seen a reference to a 9th LN lol. I don’t want to name the title in-case its a spoiler. I haven’t found anything relating to a release date for it though. I would assume the author is confident in completing it in time though.

  11. Welcome to the new writers and great to see Kairi and Stilts covering shows again this fall! Zephyr, Zanibas and Enzo–you will be missed but good luck and hope you return to RC in the winter. I would throw in another vote for Gundam coverage…and also a new podcast! 🙂

  12. I’m a bit shocked there’s no one blogging Kiseijuu. On top of that, no one seems to be talking about it! I’m convinced this is going to be AOTS, if Madhouse manages to do it right, the source material was just that entertaining to me.

  13. I know it’s a sequel, and I’m not entirely surprised, but I’m sad to see WIXOSS go uncovered again once more ;_; hopefully there will be another final impressions post.

Besides that, you guys are covering a lot of really anticipated shows and I’m looking forward to following them alongside you guys once more for this season, so cheers!

    1. I was actually surprised at how much I enjoyed WIXOSS’ first season… I like psychological thrillers like that so I’ll definitely be following =) Blogging is another story though… Friday shows don’t agree with me =X

      1. I’m sure it left a lot of people stunned for those who watched it. It didn’t turn out as expected at all. Ah, if only it aired on batoru Thursdays again… Oh well, it makes me happy to know that this won’t go unnoticed, so thanks for letting me know! ^ ^

  14. My my, those filled weekends. Looks like I won’t be doing anything but watching anime.
And this looks to be the first season for some time I’ll be watching something every weekday too! (Except maybe Friday, not sure about that yet)

On blogger-related news, Enzo and Ginko have terrible timing, they just missed each other. Meanwhile Cherrie already has a full course ordered (well, mostly last-season leftovers, yes, but still!)
Enzo, Zanibas and Zephyr will be missed.

    Erimaki
    1. I love leftovers! Especially pizza… I adore leftover cold pizza from the night before o.o don’t judge me.
But in all honesty, I don’t see a reason to drop AgK – it’s a great show in case you’re not watching. Sailor Moon Crystal is like… the baby that I can’t give up because it’s not a huge commitment only airing every other week.

      1. Oh, I’m not judging your choices, quite on the contrary, I wholly support them (especially AgK and Sailor Moon, even if I’m not actually watching the latter).
I was just amused/interested by the fact that that’s the most shows I’ve seen anyone of RandomC’s bloggers have reserved when the schedule’s posted for the first time.
And that’s made even more amazing by the fact that I don’t remember anyone blogging more than three shows weekly, and that you’re also largely in charge of the monthly posts.
(For the record, I can’t judge you, cold leftover pizza is great!)

  15. Count me in into Akatsuki no Yona fanboying.

    BUT… I’d like to..

    INVITE ALL OF YOU!!!

..to our Random Curiosity chatroom where we frequently fanboy about each show, with many of the ones that weren’t picked for blogging in particular season. Just follow the guidelines at the top of right column of RC pages.

  16. Might I request that a link to this schedule be added under the “Navigation” section of the site, in the upper right, now that the new shows are actually airing? I don’t want to lose this schedule when it drops off the bottom of the recent posts.

Nope, this is not my Cup of Tea. If they need to show how fast someone can fallen, then this World is not worthy of being saved

Nope, for my taste. This Show build the World total unrealistic, even for Anime Magic Standards. As if you are watching a H-Anime just without the naked flesh
