「雨にもまけず」 (Amenimo Makezu)
“Rain or Shine”

I wouldn’t mind more episodes like this — a combination of a bunch of quirky but cute things that culminate into something that’s just too damn entertaining.

Ayayaya

As a character, I don’t think I’ve ever had an opinion about Aya. She’s the one who’s normally the levelheaded and trying to direct the group unless her nerves or emotions get the better of her. And even when they do you can’t really hold it against her since it’s typically related to the girl she fancies. But this week, I feel like we got to see a completely different side of Ayaya. Going to great lengths to manage her persona and even doing things as drastic as cutting her hair, I never expected we’d see such a big change in someone from an anime like this! But honestly, isn’t that what makes the slice-of-life genre so great? You come for the silly gags but walk away with a new sense of understanding for not only the characters but how what they do in their world could change the way you view yours!

Who do you look up to?

I’ve been wondering how the show is going to bring in Honoka (the girl who seems to have a big crush on Karen) and up until today I assumed it was going to take a pretty big schism in the story to do so. What never occurred to me though was just how paired up everyone in the main cast is except Karen. Shinobu has Alice and Aya has Youko but who does that leave Karen with? Obviously, the new girl who hasn’t entered the group yet! I mean, I doubt the addition of another character would do anything big to the story but it would be nice for Karen to have someone to bounce jokes off of except Kuzehashi-sensei, right?

Looking Ahead

Another week comes and goes but that doesn’t make me grow weary of a show like this. With its light humor and deep messages, things never get too dull which is awesome for any show in this genre. Judging from the preview it looks like Isami is going to be joining us next week so be sure to watch for any crazy older sister antics!

See you next week!

  1. This has been good from the start, I agree Aya was a lot of fun! But the teachers have been a joy too ! The girls just come off with the humor so perfect in this episode! It is very hard to deliver comedy content for the whole episode! But a nice touch with Alice / Shinobu and the garden .Sometimes a simple slice of life with great humor and friendship could be so cool!

  2. “Marigold means Friendship.” …. AAAARGH!!!! GOD!!! ALL THIS CUTE!!!! WHY!??!??

This ep seems to be about role models. And flowers. And angel hair, which I LOVE to eat.

  3. I love that Karen was able to observe the AlicexShinobu and AyaxYoko pairings this week. Don’t worry Karen, you now have your very own waifu, in the form of Kuzehasi-sensei <3

  4. surprised that no one noticed that there’s one sequence or “cut” as how we animators call it, where ayaya’s “bangs” returned to the original length after being trimmed short.
