「夏休みとねことアジ」 (Natsuyasumi to Neko to Aji)
“Summer Vacation and Cat and Aji”

That wasn’t exactly what I was expecting, but the episode as a whole really set in stone just how well behaved Tsumugi. If anything, I hope that when I have a daughter (I will have a daughter), she’ll be at least half as well behaved as an imaginary anime character.

Feeling A Bit Blue

Carrying over last week’s somber tone that appeared right before the credits started to role, it was looking like we’d be in for a rather unhappy episode. With Tsumugi in neko mode to cover for her depressed state and Kouhei trying his hardest to do something for her, it felt like we had all the pieces for a really emotional episode to come and smack us across the face. Unfortunately, the writers had a different idea in mind and decided to use this week’s episode as a reminder that Shinobu and Yagi still exist and truly have a good reason for existing. And don’t get me wrong, I love our side characters just as much as I love our main ones – it’s just that the potential for some real tear jerking moments were right there! If anything, you could say I was feeling a little blue.

Shinobu and Yagi

After getting over the tiny bit of sadness after realizing the direction the episode was taking, I must say that I really missed seeing Shinobu and Yagi. With the former being relegated to simple one to two second glimpses and the latter getting completely turned down after offering to be the perfect partner-in-crime when Tsumugi was away, it wasn’t until this week that I realized they both bring something special to the screen. Which I guess was only accentuated even more when you consider that Tsumugi and Kouhei were for the most part out of the spotlight.

If I had one wish though, I’d love to see an episode where Kouhei and Yagi (or Tsumugi and Shinobu) spent some time together without any trace of Shinobu. I feel like it’s pretty close to impossible though.

Looking Ahead

With only a few episodes left, I hope that the people behind Amaama have something big planned for us. They’ve spent two and a half months creating a world with unique characters and filling those characters with all kinds of emotions and feelings. Emotions and feelings that are just waiting to be tapped and unleashed on our fragile hearts.

Anyways, I’ll see you next week. Ciao!
