Now that every show has had a few bunch of episodes to make its case, it’s time to tell you what we’ll be blogging this season. This is Random Curiosity’s Fall 2017 blogging schedule.

As always, this is a tentative overview of our plans for the new season . . . is what we used to say, but with multiple episodes under our belts, we’re pretty confident in our picks. Will some of them blow up in our faces? Look, I’m not a psychic. If I was, I’d get paid more. This is what we’re going with for now.

In staff news, Passerby is taking a season off to get wittier and prettier and possibly gayer, I don’t know, see above vis a vis me, psychic powers, etc. I know he’s planning to return next season, though, so Passerby fans, sit tight. Choya is carrying this season with four series, followed by Zaiden and Takaii. Good job y’all. Special thanks go to Pancakes for taking care of the screencaps for Mahoutsukai no Yome so Enzo could continue charming everyone with his words. Also, Cherrie and I are still here, I guess.

In show news, we’re currently covering 16 shows, 4 of which are carry-overs. I’m pretty pleased with the shows our writers decided to blog, because while a few undeserving gems are left without coverage, most of those are pure comedy or slice-of-life, which are hard to cover week after week. Not that Himouto! Umaru-chan R, Osomatsu-san 2, and Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou didn’t get a hard look, but I’m sure they’ll get finale posts. I also may end up blogging the second half of Yuuki Yuuna, though I’ll wait to see how the first couple episodes are before I promise anything.

Quick reminder that new writer applications are permanently open. If you didn’t catch the announcement last season, we’re leaving them open because the whole recruitment post production is bothersome. If you’d like to write for RandomC, send an email to stilts(at)randomc(dot)net AND cherrie(at)randomc(dot)net with the subject line “RandomC Application” or “Random Curiosity Application”, and include a bunch of info about yourself (be concise) + a RandomC-style post on a recent anime episode + 36 screencaps of said recent episode. I also suggest you read the last two big recruitment posts, because they contain some good tips. Who knows, we just might bring you on. It’s happened before! That’s how y’all got stuck with me.

We also have a new announcement this season. Have you heard of Discord? Well, if you’re old and crotchety like me, here’s a short blurb written by Zaiden, because he’s been taking the lead on this and also I’m really lazy. Thanks for enabling my sloth, Zai-chan. Here’s what he says:

Discord is a free and casual text chat application that has a gorgeous user interface, while being rather simple to use. Random Curiosity has recently started up a server, and we’re seeking to engage with the community at large, as well as widening the scope of discussion about anime and manga. What you’ll get out of it are interesting group conversations, and the chance to interact with writers! Feel free to join us over at discord.gg/aheHGkf.

We look forward to seeing you there!

That’s all I’ve got this season. Thank you for your time, your attention, your love, your lust, and all the forthcoming comments complaining about shows we’re not covering. We love you all. Cheers!

Updates:

  • 12/10: Though the prequel didn’t demand it, the sequel must be blogged. Stilts is blogging Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru: Yuusha no Shou!

    1. Lack of Just Because coverage is the only one that hurts me. I would love to see Houseki no Kuni or Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou but I don’t mind them being left out that much. Especially that sometimes it’s just hard to write about series like those.

      1. Pretty much this, I really love Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou to bits, but writing posts for it can take a while considering the material and my Fridays/weekends are hectic as hell this season. Another unfortunate victim of real life circumstances lol.

    2. I will be covering Just Because over at LiA – I like it quite a bit. Just don’t have time to add any more work over here – it’s thanks to Pancakes pitching in to help with Mahoutsukai that I’m even able to cover two series.

    1. Notice for Stilts:

This Discord is some kind of Teamspeak. But we are spread all over the Earth, and different Timezones.. It would help a little when the “most” Peoples are online on GMT or other Timezone

      1. Zai-chan is spearheading the Discord channel, so talk to him. Though there isn’t anything we can do about people’s time zones. Get on when it’s convenient for you and hopefully someone else will be there to chat with.

      2. Due to real life circumstances, I can’t hang around Discord for this particular weekend. Lol.

But I would be very happy to talk with people, once I recover my laptop charger from my university’s lost and found.

      3. No biggy guys,

Do to my work i have only time in the late afternoon here in Germany. Also my MMO English got rusty with the time, but i try to enter the server in the next weekend or so.. even if just to save the nickname

  1. Well that’s a shock! Black Clover, the most studio-loved, over-hyped anime of the season, isn’t being covered! :O Just goes to show that RC isn’t influenced at all by hype.

I’m not surprised The IDOLM@STER SideM isn’t being covered because I did not ever see Episodes 2 and 3 covered here before, just the pilot.

This means that RC is only covering 1 anime I am following this season.

  2. Stilts, are you sure about covering the prequel to the first season of Yuuki Yuuna? After three episodes I ask why I am taking this journey. I and any one who seen this title knows what’s about to happen. It’s the Elephant in the room and the audience are the only ones that are aware. We the viewers have just traded Nogi’s flash back from Season 1 to actually experiencing the scene where the three girls suffered. This will be a sad tale revisited and to what end;I truly wonder. The first season really didn’t solve anything ether. The girls just shifted their responsibility to the next poor sap as the girls spend their lives in happiness.

    1. If you’re interested in coverage of Yūki Yūna is a Hero‘s prequels and upcoming sequels, this is your best bet; the discussion is detailed and insightful. Moreover, the site’s author has mentioned that they will be covering the Hero Chapter for sure, so if it’s not covered here, you’ll have another venue for some thoughts into the Hero Chapter.

That’s why I’m not blogging the prequel. I’ve found that I have a lot of trouble blogging shows with pessimistic worldviews. This is something I learned blogging the first three episodes of Re:Zero, where I wasn’t disliking the episodes but I hated blogging them. I wish I’d blogged the first season of Yuuki Yuuna because, no matter how dark it got, it remained fundamentally optimistic; though almost entirely on the back of the titular Yuuki Yuuna. Without her, though, the prequel (and the ending we know it’s going to get) is too pessimistic for me to blog week after week, even for half a season. It just drags me down too much, and my posts aren’t any good.

I’m hoping the sequel won’t be like that since the titular Yuuki Yuuna will be back, though at least I won’t know how it’s going to end, so I may be able to hope/delude myself long enough to blog it. I’m leaning towards it. Plus work will be a little quieter by then, which will help.

      1. The actual sequel will be more worth it to blog even if it becomes depressing, a psychological thriller, off tangent ripping off of D-frag! Or Gintama; at least it’s different. But I get the feeling the sequel will be more of a slice of life.

This aside, I mentioned the elephant in the room previously, this will most certainly apply to Gintama more so than Himouto! Umaru-chan or Love Live! Sunshine!! TVDB registers current Gintama Anime as the 11th season which this important. The producer reuse the same antics even though every time I get sucked into watching it (I crack up) I know to expect obscenity; which I’m fine with…

This is my two cents, and no blogs on Yuuki Yuuna prequel. (⁼ ^ ⁼ )

  3. Nice, three out of the four shows I’m watching this season are being covered here. I’m especially glad that Juuni Taisen is being covered in particular because that’s my absolute favourite this season, so thank you for that =D

    Aki-Chan
  4. I’m losing my touch and haven’t had the chance to keep up with the series this season.

Can someone recommend me a few “must watch” ones from whatever genre? All I’m watching at the moment is Ballroom e Youkoso.

    1. The one’s I’m bloggin! Just kidding, there’s alot of good shows for Fall season, so you’re in luck. For a nice comedic drama, Netojuu no Susume is showing a lot of promise, and has been one of my top favorites so far. For something cute and funny, Konohana Kitan and Blend-S are great choices. Imouto sae is good trashy fun with a surprising amount of depth to it.

For more dramatic fare, people are loving Kujira no Kora wa Sajou ni Utau and Mahoutsukai no Yome. For great action shows, we have Juuni Taisen, Inuyashiki, Shoukoku no Altair, and the on-going Fate/Apocrypha and Boruto. If you don’t have much time, Osake wa Fuufu ni Natte Kara is a nice short anime about cocktails.

There are also many must-see sequels in this season. 3-gatsu no Lion, Food Wars, and Love Live Sunshine are all returning. There are very funny sequels this time around too for Himouto Umaru-chan and Osomatsu-san. Kino’s Journey has a decent reboot going on too.

There’s alot of shows that turned out to be really good this time around so there aren’t too many bad options. It all hinges on what type of anime you’re looking for.

      Choya
      1. I’m not even sure what genre I want, so thanks for the thorough answer! 🙂

I usually go for the action/drama for myself and comedy/SoL for watching with the wife, so I’ll definitely give some you listed a try.
