Since I first saw the promos for this show, I thought it had a lot of potential. Potential to be cute, potential to be funny, and to have that certain kind of ridiculous levity that I enjoy so much. What it lacked – and has continued to lack for most of its run – is drama in any meaningful amount. Until now.

Rikka’s chuunibyou keeps getting in the way of her love…until suddenly it doesn’t

「二人の…逃避行(エグザイル)」 (Futari no… Eguzairu)
“The Couple’s…Exile”

Flirting, indirect kisses, playful teasing, a little innocent sniffing…and suddenly feelings are awakening after the storm that has passed by. Oh gods, I don’t know if I can take so much HNNNNN– *falls over with a massive nosebleed*

「追憶の…楽園喪失(パラダイス・ロスト)」 (Tsuioku no … Rakuen Soushitsu ( Paradaisu . Rosuto ))
“Paradise Lost…of Memories”

For a show that has gotten by so far on cute moments and pitch-perfect comedy, there were a lot of deep, mournful scenes this week. Fortunately, the groundwork they laid down made these moments quite effective.

There were so many good things about this episode! I could list out everything I found funny, but then we’d be here all night because I’d have to talk about out every single scene!

「異端なる…双尾娘(ツインテール)」 (Itan Naru … Sou o Musume (Tsuinteru))
“The Twin Tails…of Heresy”

Through the forming of a club, a new character is introduced, Kumin-sempai is brought into the fold, and even Nibutani officially joins the group! Now if only Yuuta would stop being so tsundere about Rikka… :3

「旋律の…聖調理人(プリーステス)」 (Senritsu no … Hijiri Chourinin (Puriisutesu))
“Priestess of…the Melody”

This week introduces more characters, with an easygoing senpai and a cool beauty of an onee-san entering the fray. On top of that was some good storytelling that subtly surprised, plenty of adorable moments, and some great (delusional) action. Another delicious treat!
