Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon II – 03

「土上の下り者」 (Do Jou no Kudari-mono)
“Those Descending to the Surface”

A certain honorable pervert officially gets a romantic interest, while everyone’s favorite miserly merchant gets into a knock-out, throw-down, business negotiation knife fight. You don’t see that every day…though I wouldn’t mind if we did.

Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon II – 01

「朱の場の部員達」 (Shu No Ba No Buin Tachi)
“Club Members in Scarlet”

Musashi starts off fighting Tres España, and then flies straight into another confrontation, this one with Great Britain. They just can’t get a break, can they? Hopefully not, because the action, the comedy, the romance…this episode was fun!

Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon – Retrospective, Part 2 – Episodes 07-13 & Final Impressions

Must type faster, must finish post. Ahhhh my carpal tunnel!

And we’re back with Part 2 of Stilts nii-chan’s ridiculously detailed Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon Retrospective. Last time we went over the story’s premise, the world, the characters, and the various factions that are all vying for power on Horizon’s Earth. Then, just to get the party started properly, I went ahead and gave you summaries and impressions for the first six episodes.

This time we’re going to go through episodes 07-13, complete with summaries, impressions, and detailed explanations of anything that I think might trip you up. Finally, we’re going to finish this thing off with my in-depth final impressions of season one. There’s some hard stuff in these episodes, so tune in if you’re not quite sure you got everything last time. As for those of you who still haven’t decided to watch this wonderful series, read my final series impressions! You might catch some spoilers, but if my passionate words don’t make you want to immediately marathon the entire series, then I just don’t know what will. Possibly you’re dead inside. You should probably get that checked out. Let’s begin!

Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon – Retrospective, Part 1 – The Premise, the World, & Episodes 01-06

The natural reaction to how much work went into this post.

Welcome, one and all, to my special series of retrospective posts on the sci-fi / fantasy epic Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon. In the following two posts, I’m going to give you everything you need to know in order to enjoy this wonderfully complex series, including background information, character bios, detailed summaries and impressions for every episode, and a giant final impressions section that explains exactly why I felt compelled to write so much about this series. In the end, these two posts are going to cover the entire season – all 13 episodes – of one of the most vibrant and detailed worlds that has graced our screens in years.

In this first post I’ll be talking about the basic premise, the world, the factions, the characters, and many of the other fiddly little details that might trip you up. Then, just to get the party started in earnest, I’m going to go ahead and give you summaries and impressions for the first six episodes. If you have any questions, whether you haven’t watched this series yet or suspect you might have missed something on your first time through, this post may very well contain the answer.

Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon – OST

Over the past couple of years, Katou Tatsuya has very rapidly risen to be one of my all-time favourite soundtrack composers. While not yet as prolific as the likes of Kajiura Yuki or Kanno Yoko (neither of whom had any involvement with the soundtrack, in case I give that mistaken impression), I will not be remotely surprised to see him rank up there in the near future. Soundtracks of note are Ichiban Ushiro no Daimaou, Hyakka Ryouran Samurai Girls, the recently concluded Mirai Nikki, and currently airing Medaka Box.

Note: Possible Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon spoilers after the jump!

Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon – 03

「街中の遊撃手」 (Machijyuu No Yuugekisyu)
“Commandos in Town”

If these past few episodes are trying to build up to something amazing, things really need to get kicked into high gear. For a show that can justify having a encyclopedia devoted to solely listing how each character is linked to another, I expect it to be at least somewhat interesting!

Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon – 02

「食事場の清純者」 (Shokujiba no Senjunmono)
“Innocents at the Table”

With such a huge cast of characters, it’s starting to become a little difficult to keep track of who is who. However, it does feel quite rewarding after spending a some time trying to piece together who’s who and how they fit into this grand story of war, politics, and personal battles.
