Short Summary:
It’s summer and that means a trip to the beach. With the entire gang decked out in swimwear, they’re ready to have fun and relax. Sia in particular wants to spend lots of time with Rin, but their fun is interrupted by Nerine after Rin decides to teach her how to swim. After a while, Sia gets fed up with Rin’s methods and decides to lead Nerine herself. Free to relax again, Rin is floating in the water when Asa jumps him from behind. It seems that she lost her top to a wave and wants to use Rin as cover to get to the changing room. Sia gets angry after seeing them and confronts Rin, but forgets about it after Asa grows faint from the heat. After lunch, Rin and Sia fall asleep on the beach, but wake up later in the middle of the ocean. They paddle their way back to land, but their friends are nowhere to be found. After venturing into the brush, Sia hurts her foot, so Rin has to carry her.
After Sia voices her concern, Rin reassures her that he’ll always be there to protect her. The sound of growling behind them alerts them of a predator, so they run the other way. After falling down a cliff, Rin and Sia find themselves by the beach again, in front of a beautiful view. The two almost share a kiss, but get interrupted when their friends arrive to find them.

Before I get into my thoughts on the episode, here’s the shot most of you have been waiting for: The Reason for the R-15 Rating. Now that that’s out of the way…

I thoroughly enjoyed this episode. With the US Open over, it’s good to see the SHUFFLE! gang again. Granted, this episode is a lot of fanservice, but it’s fanservice that I’ve been waiting two weeks for, never mind the curiosity of what the R-15 rating would bring. In all truth, I laughed quite a bit this episode. The first half has a good amount of humor: Primula’s continual failing to make a sand castle, Itsuki mistaking their teacher for a hot girl, and Nerine in the school swimsuit. Out of the main girls, only Kaede really didn’t get much screentime (be it serious or funny), instead being relegated to a cooking side-role.
But it’s clear that this is a Sia episode. By the end (they were sooooo close on the kiss), I had the feeling that Rin is going down the Sia “path”…for now. The next episode is called 「月夜の告白」 or “Confession of a Moonlight Night,” and from what the preview shows (basically Sia standing in the moonlight in front of Rin), I have no choice but to think that it’ll be a third Sia episode in a row. On the other hand, since SHUFFLE seems to be scheduled for two season’s worth (meaning 24-26 episodes), it’s a bit too early for Rin to choose a girl (since this isn’t DCSS). Maybe they are doing each girl’s story/focus in several episode blocks.

  1. YAY FOR SIA X whatever the main characters name is… *Draws a blank* hmm… who cares its really about the girls anyway XD Haven’t had a chance to see the raw yet, I’m guessing that they get interupted at the last moment? ah well Sia is still a good while ahead of everyone else.

  2. Thank you Asa for MAKING the episode *two thumbs up*

And yea, wonder where they’re going to go with the series as it seems it’s a Sia “ending”… for now. Heh, maybe Rin will eject her in a way that’ll still let them be friends while he moves into the next “target.” *shrugs*

  3. I rewatched the first episode again today to take some caps for our blogs review… The character designs are nicer then i remebered, but the animation is just so budget.

/me has nightmares about doinky ears and doinky plot.

/me runs away from angry horde of shuffle fans

  4. It just aired today (well, yesterday technically), so give it a couple of days and I’m sure we’ll see some subs. This isn’t like Bleach or GSD and gets subbed within 24 hours of airing.
There really wasn’t a kiss….they came REALLY REALLY REALLY close…but didn’t actually make contact. 🙁

  5. hmm i dun see where the producers are going with this.. one minute i feel that they are leaning too close too shia too early… i dunno… if they do a shia story then 13 eps should be enough but noo… the show has 24 eps which makes me worried about what they will do with the other girls… >.

  6. IF rin does marry sia, hell prolly be having affairs with stray roadside dogs (since sia is after all worse than a roadside bitch). But anyways if he does get a Sia ending im dropping this hella crappy series revolving around an animal (sia). I seriously wished they would have an episode in which she gets torn up in pieces…if they release such an epi me and some of my freinds would pay anything to get it. Oh yeah and they should make it elfen lied style.
But im sure rin will choose no one by the end of the series as theyve all gotten a lot of screntime by then, and the producers wont want a single girl to win. Especially not one like sia im sure (who is barely a girl than a wild beast).
as long as i get my kaede epis ill just have to fast forward the sia based epis and watch the rest

  7. I think you’re right. When I watched it, running gags abound, especially when Primula’s sand castle is always being pummelled down by the wave. I really laughed hard when Rin and Lizzy found out that they just went behind the island rather getting lost in another one.

From what you said, this anime might stretch into the fall episodes, but that remains to be seen.

But at least, Asa’s front bumper was good reason to give this an R15 rating. Now I know.

  8. If you remember, Sia actually had a nipple shot last week although it was hard to see 😛

BTW Tsuchimui rin – Having an opinion is fine, but can you make it so it doesn’t suck so much? Is it that hard?

Honestly I’m thinking this is going to end up with either a no girl wins, or all girls win type of ending, I don’t think Rin will be able to choose someone.

  9. Anza, a stated by other people youre better off keeping your mouth shut. As youre the only one being criticised for making your silly comments regarding mine. My opinion is my opinion, why do you even give a damn?
Anyways be as annoyed as you want, ill just ignore your worthless comments as i shouldve done from the start, and you should also try not to further embarass yourself and ignore my comments? is it really that hard to do?

Well anyways, this anime is sure to have a no girl ending the way its going. Though i dislike that….i see the reason why..its a harem anime..and they usually dont have a winning character..which kind of makes watching the whole series pointless…welll guess ill watch it anyways. As long as they stray off the path of that red haired animal, anything is fine with me 🙂

  10. Barg! Granted I do Like Shia, I’d like him to be with Kaede most. Asa-sempai is just cool. Nerine is too bland for me. Oh well. IT’ll probably be like some other people said, an open ending with no girl picked.

  11. hmm i think they may split the storyline such that he turns Shia down the next ep?? then he goes on to Nerine’s story then he turns her down too?? Then the other girls then he turns all of them down and he eventually goes back to Kaede(maybe)… hmm prolly kikiho will be introduced next episode and Nerine and Licorice will have a fair share of screen time after that…

hmm speaking of Nerine… Tick tack is out… ^_^ yay!!! Since it starts of with Nerine… i presume the “true” ending of SHUFFLE! is Nerine’s ending….
