Summary:
During a critical moment of an underwater battle, all the people on the bridge around Tessa turn into Sousuke. All of them confess their love for her, but then the torpedoes hit the TDD. Tessa falls out of her chair – it was all a dream. In her underwear, Tessa wanders into the AS hanger where Sousuke is working. Sousuke becomes very embarrassed when Tessa comes and hugs him. She finally comes to her senses and realizes where she is and what she’s doing. Tessa returns to her normal flustered self, asks Sousuke to keep this a secret from everyone else, and runs away apologizing. Back in her room, Tessa takes a shower and gets dressed. She tells Mao about what happened, but Mao says that she shouldn’t worry about it. This is supposed to be her free day, but Tessa now feels all troubled. Mao and Tessa had been together the previous night, and Mao lets it slip that Tessa drank herself drunk after Mao gave her a sour (alcohol) instead of juice. But before Tessa can get too angry, Mao’s finishes her current project. Along with several mechanics, she’s programmed the M9 ASes to tango with each other. Unfortunately, the mecha can’t pull off one of the moves and the “female” one goes flying into the wall. A smiling Tessa tells Mao that this is going to be taken out of her salary.
Tessa’s next stop is to the lost and found because she’s missing her stuffed Bonta-kun after last night. Kurz also comes and turns in a bag of anime that he found. After Kurz leaves, Clouzot arrives and identifies that same bag of anime as his. However, he asks Tessa to keep his watching of anime a secret. Seeing how worried he is about his image, Tessa off-handedly suggests that he should just stop watching. Clouzot starts panicking even more at this statement, so Tessa says that it’s just a joke and promises not to tell anyone. The lost and found doesn’t have anything for Tessa, so she tries jog her memory about what happened last night. She remembers that the phone ringing, so she checks her cell phone’s log and finds a call from Kalinin. Tessa visits his room and so he invites her in. Kalinin is actually wearing an apron and cooking a special borscht. While he’s stirring in the kitchen, Tessa asks him about last night. He goes through a long explanation, but pauses mid-word every time he hears a beep from the stove so that he can stir the borscht. His explanation is that he expected her to come see a system’s test until he got a communication from Mardukas saying that she wasn’t coming. Tessa’s not happy that Mardukas is the next link of the puzzle. Before she leaves, Tessa has to first try some of Kalinin’s borscht, which includes cocoa powder and miso paste. Just like Tessa thinks it would be, the borscht is horrible.
Tessa manages to survive the meal somehow and stumbles down the corridors afterwards. But before she can go to Marduka’s room, Kurz runs by and hides behind some boxes off to her side. Clouzot follows soon after looking for Kurz. It seems that parts of his anime were replaced with video of pigs going at it. After Clouzot goes off in the wrong direction, Kurz comes out and Tessa says that he should apologize for doing this to someone’s important things. Clouzot soon returns and gets into a fight with Kurz. Tessa tries in vain to break them up, but the two only stop after Mardukas shows up. He gives them a very lengthy lecture that lasts through the day and into the evening. As for Tessa, Mardukas explains that he had contacted Kalinin only after he himself had been contacted saying that Tessa wasn’t going. The person who had told him was none other than Sousuke. Mardukas then mentions that it’s almost time for Sousuke to leave for Tokyo again. Realizing that Sousuke was the one who had found her drunk and had put her on the bridge, Tessa runs towards the launch pad and reaches Sousuke right as he’s boarding the plane. She apologizes, then confesses that she loves him and asks him not to hate her. Sousuke replies that he does hate her…her talking about loving alcohol in front of a subordinate – meaning that Sousuke interpreted her confession as a confession for her love for alcohol. And before she can clear up the misunderstanding, his plane takes off. Later, drinking with Mao, Tessa is quite pissed off at Sousuke. Mao asks her how her day ended up, and Tessa replies that it was terrible. But Tessa also thinks that it would be good if her days could continue like this.

Tessa + Sake = Hilarious
Mecha + Tango = Hilarious
Clouzot + Anime = Hilarious
Kalinin + Cooking = Hilarious
FMP! TSR Tessa OVA = Two Thumbs Way Way Up!
As you can see, I was very pleased with how this OVA turned out. The animation was superb (Kyoto Animation has done it again), the music was very familiar, and there was plenty of Tessa. The main draw of this episode is Tessa (fanservice, cuteness), but the highlights of the episode ended up going to watching the supporting cast in their daily lives. Basically everything I listed above: Mao and the tangoing M9s, Clouzot and his anime secret, Kalinin and his borscht (and how he pauses mid-sentence to stir, how he cooks like it’s a science experiment), etc. Humor was probably at a higher level than even Fumoffu. The only thing it was missing was a Bonta-kun scene lol (but I guess you can count the stuffed animal).
Having seen this, I now can’t wait for a fourth series (*cough*DancingVeryMerryChristmas*cough*ContinuingOnMyOwn*cough*). Personally I think it’s not a question of if but rather of when. In any case, this OVA has renewed my enthusiasm for the series. This is a must-see for any fans of Full Metal Panic! or Kyoto Animation. 🙂

  2. Is always good an anime can prove to us that it can be serious or funny whenever they want it to be, FMP is a very good example. FMP regular season is serious and fummoffu is just hilarious. Personally I prefer comedy more than the fighting, proably got used to seeing too many mech anime.

  6. Downloading the raw, and hoping Bakakozou or someone else subs this quickly. Tessa fanservice, more Tessa in one episode than in half of FMP:Fumoffu and TSR combined…. dancing mecha, evil grin Mao, and the Weber/Clousot ‘fight’ are just icing on a very rich cake. 😀

  8. Nice, I’m very surprised, didn’t know that there’s going to be a FMP Ova.
    And about Tessa 🙂
Nice thing, because she had no chance against Chidori^^ So maybe that’s also a small apology fo Tessa Fans.
Well, in my opinion Tessa is the cuter one^^
Don’t know the FMP story after all, watched all the animes, but there seems to be so much stuff around, novels, mangas..
What is the original story, the Manga or the Anime?
And I mean FMP, not the second raid, it’s based on a novel.

  10. Lol I love the last scene. And for once I thought the scene was actually serious.
I also loved how Aru kept talking like Tessa was an enemy lol.

    *Tessa runs from embarassment*
Aru: “Enemy has escaped! I recommend pursuing immediately!”

BTW isn’t the 4th installment called “FMP! Sigma”?

  11. Baka question, but according to Anidb there are 2 specials to Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid. The Serin sub is from the 2nd. Anyone that can tell me what that first one was about?

  12. Hey!

Did everybody saw the rapody about Clouzot anime… between Detective Conan & Conan, the future boy
LOL my friends always mistake those two series… and now FMP! gives them a reason.

    Good OVA, FMP! rulz.

  13. @WillTRiker
Dunno about a second part. That’s the first part of the OVA which was broadcastet. Be sure, if there would have been another episode, Omni would’ve report about it!

  14. LOL, Tessa is so cuuute! …and Sousuke too, when he thought she was confessing her love for alcohol.

I thought the T&A shower scene was a bit…gratuitous…but meh, as long as they have pretty guys as well to balance it out I’ll be fine. I really do adore the Telissa subtext though, I totally think that it would be sweet if Mao and Tessa /eventually/ end up together.

Now that I think about it, Telissa is sorta like the Full Metal Panic femme version of Pirates of the Caribbean’s Sparrington pairing. OMG! Except, Chidori is much more like Elizabeth Swann, and Sousuke is more like Will Turner.

    Mercurial Georgia
  15. LOL, I just love how Al was there to tease Sousuke after Tessa walked in drunk and half-naked and made it sound like part of a battle simulation. “your situation is disadvantageous” “you have suffered chest damage” “you are losing the chance to pursue”
Never noticed how quirky Al is until now.
