The Fall 2006 Season is just around the corner, so it’s time for a preview of what’s coming. But before we get started, a few notes. I am once again not specifically saying what I am and am not going to watch. As usual, I’ll watch the first episode of almost every show within certain parameters (in other words, probably not the kiddie shows like Pokémon or Rockman). What I will do here is say what the odds of me blogging the show are. However, even if chances are good that I’ll blog the first episode of a series, that doesn’t mean I’ll stick with it for more than that. Certain days of the week – Thursdays and Saturdays – have always had too many interesting shows, and I have to ultimately make a decision on what to follow and what not to. This season isn’t quite as bad as the previous Spring one, but it’s close.

By no means does this list reflect all of the anime that are going to be aired, though I did try to be as comprehensive as I could. Check out MOON PHASE for an entire listing, syoboi’s calendar for specific air-times, and AndrewLB’s Fall 2006 Wiki for who’s tentatively subbing what.

Technical Note: All times are given in a 24-hour, relative-day format where times are extended to show which day they belong to. For instance, Friday morning at 1:30AM would become Thursday at 25:30 to show that the episode aired late Thursday night.

Call me behind on the times, but it wasn’t until I looked up this series that I learned that there’s a Tokimeki Memorial MMORPG. Not that that changes anything. This season’s Navel-related show, with original character designs by Nishimata Aoi of SHUFFLE! fame. It sounds like this might be another Lemon Angel Project girls-becoming-idols type show, but there’s some major voice talent signed on for this: Nakahara Mai (she’s in everything), Chihara Minori (Yuki from Suzumiya Haruhi), Nogawa Sakura (Nemu from DC), and Gotou Yuuko (Mikuru, Kaede, Nanami…). I think that alone makes this a must-see.

In a war-torn land, there’s an army group called “Pumpkin Scissors” that is responsible for helping recover from war damage. The story starts when the group meets a traveler named Orlando. This is a GONZO (and AIC) series, so all the normal rules probably apply. In any case, the trailer looks interesting enough. And I can’t quite put my finger on why, but something about this series reminds me a little of FMA. Maybe it’s the war-torn setting and the style of the uniforms.

One of the many manga series getting an anime this season; the plot involves Exorcists fighting against the sinister Millennium Earl and his Akuma. Since this is a Shounen Jump series being given a 6PM timeslot, I expect this to be pretty popular. In fact, I’ve gotten a few requests to do this show, so odds are good that I’ll write about at least the first episode. But it depends, because this is the same day that…

…DEATH NOTE airs. And I can tell you that I’m definitely watching this. DEATH NOTE is a gripping psychological/supernatural series about a guy who finds a shinigami notebook that can kill people whose names are written in it (given a set of ground rules that is). I personally have actually only read the manga up to the end of the first major arc (a little over seven volumes), and have been meaning to get around to reading the rest of it. Oh, and did I mention that Hirano Aya will be voicing Misa? 🙂

A series about a high school girl who joins a group called the Shibuya Psychic Research that goes after ghost related mysteries. I hadn’t realized it, but the manga for this series has been out in English for a year now. This series is also known as “Perfect Girl Evolution” or “The Wallflower” to you manga readers. The plot centers around four guys who get free rent in a mansion under the condition that they turn a girl into a lady. I picked up this manga once and couldn’t get into it, so I don’t exactly have high hopes for this anime. On the other hand, Nabeshin will be directing this series and there’s some decent voice talent including Nakahara Mai and Tomokazu Sugita.

In the Heian period, there existed practitioners of mystical powers called onmyouji. One famous onmyouji is the legendary Abe no Seimei. Now that we’re done with the history lesson, this anime centers around Seimei’s grandson Masahiro and Masahiro’s spirit partner Mokkun, who are in training. The premise sounds rather shounen, but the novels this anime is based on are actually published in the girl-oriented quarterly Kadokawa Shoten Beans Bunko magazine.

Super Robot Wars is a video game franchise that uses characters and (super-deformed) mecha designs from many different popular anime and manga series. The Original Generation games, however, use original characters and mecha. The animation is not super-deformed and actually looks like a normal mecha series. The story circles around at time after mankind has taken to space and after two meteors have already hit the Earth a while back. A third one comes down and this time a research team finds it filled with special technology. I honestly haven’t played any of the games or seen the Super Robot Wars OG OVA from last year, so my anticipation and expectations for this series are relatively low.

This show takes place in a Japan that’s being occupied by a Britannia Empire, complete with mecha. Forgetting about the story, the biggest selling point of this show is probably that it’s a Sunrise series with original character designs by CLAMP. I expect there to be plenty of production money in this one. Magazine spreads like this don’t hurt either. You can find the promo video on YouTube. Randomly, the mecha and the FLOW opening song remind me a little bit of Eureka 7.

This show actually intrigues me quite a bit. The story involves the male lead’s little sister turning into an adult and the male lead’s previous lover turning into a child. It seems to be billed as a fantasy/romance series being animated by JC Staff. Big plusses for me are the fact that the OP is being sung by Suara (who did the Utawarerumono OP) and Yuumao (who did the Kashimashi ED). Also, Hino Satoshi (aka. Saito and Yuuji) is voicing the male lead, though it’s shame that Kugimiya Rie isn’t in this show too. 🙂

If I had to describe the manga this show is based on quickly, I’d call it a martial arts series crossed with a good deal of lolicon. For examples, I point you to Exhibit A and Exhibit B (probably NSFW). Basically, the story involves a guy who is the heir to a fighting style, but has no interest in it, and a very strong loli girl who wants to have his children. Hilarity ensues. I’ve been looking forward to this series ever since my friend introduced me to the manga. It also helps that Hirano Aya is in this too.

When Matthew showed me this series a month ago, the first thing that came to mind was that the character designs screamed Da Capo. In fact, reading through a few of the profiles, there’s a sister character (pink haired one), a childhood friend (the one who looks like Nemu), and the kendo girl (the one who looks like Tamaki). But then again, I guess those character types are common enough in such games as the one this anime is based on. The setting here, instead of a magical sakura tree, is an eternal rainbow and a very special gift giving practice. What am I looking most forward to about this? Once again, magazine scans to the rescue. Seriously though, I’m actually looking forward to Hashimoto Miyuki singing the OP.

You know something is a hit when the fake manga/anime series featured in it gets a real anime. Such is what happened with Kujibiki Unbalance, the fake series popularized by the hit Genshiken manga (and anime). Kujian, for short, is a love-comedy centered on a kujibiki (drawing lots, lottery) that has already been animated as a set of OVAs, but now it’s getting a full season. I’m almost definitely going to watch this, but I’m split about whether I should have high expectations for it or not, especially since the look of the show has changed quite a bit. It’s a shame they won’t have UNDER17 singing that addictive opening song, but the one in the promo video by Atsumi Saori (who sang the Genshiken ED) is pretty good too.

I could say that this is another show about people with special powers fighting monsters, but that doesn’t really do this justice. I think instead, what will have more impact, is that this is:
1) It is replacing Blood+ in that coveted Saturday night timeslot (which also belonged to hits GS/D, FMA)
2) It is being animated by BONES.
3) ikimono-gakari and Porno Graffiti are doing the OP and ED, respectively.
This show will probably go for a long while (aka. a year), especially given the track records of the previous shows in this very important timeslot. The combination of high production quality with a potential epic-type series has me very excited.

Hataraki-man literally means working man, and that’s how you’d describe the female lead of this series, played by Tanaka Rie. It’s about her devotion to her job as an editor for a weekly magazine along with her other challenges as a woman. I’ve heard some good stuff about the manga this show is based on, and if it aired on any other day, I might have labeled this as “Guaranteed.” But I’m going to be cautious here because it’s airing on Thursday, and as you can see above, there are going to be a ton of Thursday shows.

Ok, to be honest, I can’t say the words “God’s Glass” without laughing because of how corny it sounds – very much in the we-can-make-an-anime-about-any-topic sense. A sci-fi series about a girl who’s training to be a mecha (called Strain) pilot and finds herself against her older brother who is on the opposing side. My only problem with these WOWOW shows starting so late into the season is that by then I’ve already decided on shows, so it’s hard to make room for another one. But maybe the double episode will impress me so much that I’ll find a way. We’ll just have to see when the time comes.
Odds I’ll Blog This: Good

Updated 9/22/2006: Bakumatsu YouTube video link fixed; Added Super Robot Wars OG Divine Wars, History’s Strongest Disciple Kenichi, and Soukou no Strain entries.

This write-up covers most of the fall’s shows, totaling 37 in all. It took me some 17 hours over three weeks to research and write, going at a maximum rate of around three series per hour (usually slower). But now I can honestly say that I am at least a little bit knowledgeable about almost every potential series I’d watch, meaning that there’s less chance of something good falling through the cracks. Still, keep in mind that I will personally only be able to follow probably only six to eight series, though the first two weeks of October will likely have more than that. It’s also very important that you comment on the shows that you like because I do take the perceived popularity of a show into account when I decide what to keep and what to drop.

But for now the important question is, what are you going to be watching?
As always, Comments, Questions, and Suggestions are welcome.

  1. Thanks a lot, this is a great help when trying chose what to try 🙂

  2. I am definitely gonna watch Death Note (there’s so much hype about it, I hope the animated version turns out well). Other series that I am interested in: D.Gray-man, Ayakashi Ayashi, HatarikiMan, Pumpkin Scissors and possibly Asatte no Houkou.

  3. Hoe, there’s so many to watch for but I’ll definitely pick D.Gray Man, Death Note, Jigoku Shoujo 2, Kanon and CODE GEASS (it’ll be interesting to see a CLAMP designed mecha series). And I need at least one mecha series since Zegapain will be ending soon.

  4. *pulls hair* Mouuu… I really don’t know. Plus I’m in senior year so that means very little free time… but Death Note is a definite yes. I’m also thinking of watching: Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge, a friend was very keen on the manga, so why not?

    And… Hataraki Man sounds nice….

Ok, I’m going to stop now until I’ll find that all of those listed are fun *burries head under pillow*

  5. sorry for second posting.

    Lovedol,D.Gray man,Death note,ghost hunt,kanon,sumomomo momomo,ayakashi ayashi, kujibiki unbalance

  8. this is the most complete list I’ve read! thanks! 🙂 I know I will check out Death Note, Crescent Love and Hatakari Man. However, I will wait for first episodes to decide on which ones I will follow! I am always looking for a good mix of action, drama, romance and lots of comedy! Oh, I probably won’t watch Negima, I have yet to watch the version that came out a few years ago, I got the DVDs but I haven’t brought myself to finish watching them! LOL!

  9. Nothing that significant, but I noticed that almost ALL bloggers ignored Super Robot Wars : OG in their fall preview. What’s up with that?

    Guareented :
    SRW : OG
    Death Note
    D.Gray-Man
    Black Lagoon
    Hitman REBORN
    Code Geass
    Kekkaishi
    Happiness
    Love Idol

I’ll give most highly anticipated series 4 episodes of judgement, and the others 2 to 3 depending on their first impression. I’ll eventually watch all of them in 1 1/2 years time, because VCDs here are damn cheap.

    Migs
  10. Galaxy Angel Rune!!! Yay!!! Personally, I’ve seen all 4 seasons of Galaxy Angels, and I love the series. Lots of parodies, lots of humour, just amazing. And the fact that all GA episodes are short and episodic, I find myself rewatching the series more often than any other series (even newer ones like Ouran or Suzumiya Haruhi).

My only 2 complaints are: the new characters look as if they were designed by a bunch of pedophiles… And there doesn’t seem to be a Vanila equivalent amongst them. Only one that looks like a composite of both her and Forte. Also, screw that black cat. It’s somehow stirring up my insides, reminding me of a really annoying, talking-bipedal cat (i think it was white, but who cares). At least Aya Hirano is gonna be in it!!!!!!!!

Also, regarding Negima, I’ve got a feeling that it will be the continuation of the first season. It is said that it will simply be *based* on the manga and possibly have a different story. But that’s what happened to the final few episodes of the first season. What(I think) would be great: [possible spoiler. beware]
    1. Asuna’s curse is really gone (and the side effect: her eyes are the same colour AT LAST!)
    2. More character interaction, and
    3. Nagi as the mid-point plot-twist/climax
    [end possible spoilers]

Finally, I’m still looking out of Alice The Adventure. Anyone heard anything about it yet?

    JoshieJosh
  11. eek. thats a lot of series..

only one I know that I’ll be following for sure at this point is Kanon.

Tenpou Ibun Ayakashi Ayashi will probably get some attention from me since bones is working on it.

    Past that not sure.. I’m still catching up from the Spring/Summer anime that I’m behind on ^^;;

    kiryuu
  12. I’ll be keeping tabs on Pumpkin Scissors, DEATH NOTE, Kanon (I’ve seen quite a bit of hooplah about it, so I’m catching up on what I’ve “missed” in the next few days), Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto, D.Gray-man, and Tenpou Ibun Ayakashi Ayashi.

Between that and playing a small bit of catch-up with a few other anime, I’ll have my hands (and eyes) full. XD

Oh, and this is my first comment on your blog, but I like your style. (:

  13. As of now I’ll only be watching Super Robot Wars Original Generation, for me whatever else I watch depends on what gets subbed.

And why is it that EVERY anime blog I’ve been to is ignoring SRW Original Generation?

    Anza
  14. I’ll definately watch D.Gray-man, since the manga is so awesome. I actually don’t have high hopes for the anime, but I’m still gonna watch it… (after all, I guess it just can’t go as low as Bleach or Naruto 😛 (I was fan of both manga’s, but the anime versions were… eww))

What I’m afraid of is that no one will blog this series since the same airind day with Death Note. Maybe I should blog it myself 😀

    HiMalaya
  15. I’ve definitely been waiting for some of this season’s shows, especially Kanon. I really appreciate you finding the time to give us a bit of info about so many series.

My guaranteed list: GA Rune, Negima!?, Yoake, Kanon, Happiness, Gift, Otoboku
Probably will check out a few eps: Lovedol, Asatte no Houkou

  16. By Ansa : As of now I’ll only be watching Super Robot Wars Original Generation, for me whatever else I watch depends on what gets subbed.

And why is it that EVERY anime blog I’ve been to is ignoring SRW Original Generation?

Maybe it’s cause the lack of publicity? Hell, the SRW site opened just last week. And promos are non-existent. Not to mention disliking the mecha genre seems to be a recurring thing among anime bloggers.

One would think that the recent localization of OG would’ve ignited SOME interest. Apparently the only ones hyped are old-school SRW fans.

  17. Wow there’s allot of good shows. i’m gonna watch:
    Pumpkin Scissors
    D.Gray-Man
    Death Note
    Ghost Hunt
Busou Renkin (not so sure, that promo was a little freaky)
    Code Geass
    Bokumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto
    Tenpou Ibun Ayakashi Ayashi
Jigaku Shoujo Futakomori(i’m not too sure about this one, but i love the design of that little girl)
    Hatarabi Man
Shounen Onmyouji (maybe, dunno will watch first episode that’s for sure)

Adding this to my schoolwork… well it’ll be a busy season.

    Snip
  18. I’ll be watching

    Death Note
    D.Gray-Man
    Black Lagoon 2nd
    Code Geass
    Ayakashi Ayashi
    Kanon
    Negima?!
Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto, anyone know how to watch the trailer for this. The youtube link doesn’t work and the link on the official site is weird.

  19. There are so many people with negative opinion about the series ‘Bartender’ that I have a feeling that this might become a surprise hit of the season. Then again, many good series doesn’t get the attention it deserves until several years have past since the series has last aired.

    wontaek
  20. The series I’ll definately be watching (I’ll just copy & paste what I posted on another forum):

    D.Gray-Man (Self-explanatory)
Super Robot Taisen OG: Divine Wars (As a SRW fan, I can’t miss it no matter what a crap it may turn out to be)
Yoakemae Yori Ruriiro na (YES! August-Soft’s masterpiece!)
Mamoru-kun ni Megami no Shukufuku wo! (Tsundere Onee-san = Instant win)
    Kanon (Needs no explanation)
Code Geass: Lelouche of Rebellion (Pretty much the only mech anime this season, I think)
Gift ~Eternal Rainbow~ (My favorite Bishoujo game in its greatest glory, with double release of the PS2 version and the anime in the same month!)
Black Lagoon: Second Barrage (After the success of the first season, this is pretty much a must-watch)
    LoveDol ~Lovely Idol~ (AOI NISHIMATA!!!)

Now to comment on some of the above…

I recommend SRW:OG ~Divine Wars~ if you like mechs. Granted, the OVA was kinda crap, but at least give the series a shot. Mix Gundams with original mech designs by Banpresto, weird and unique but kick-ass characters, out-of-scale storylines, top it off with aliens, espers, and timetravellers (I’m not kidding), and you’ve got SRW:OG.

Tokimemo…well I’m not really fond of the online MMORPG, but Tokimemo 1 is what got me into dating sims in the first place so I’m just doing what any other Tokimemo fans would do; watch it anyway. But I’ll probably drop it if the first episode is bad.

Yoakemae yori Ruriiro na is one of my favorite Bishoujo games (it also kept its throne in the H-games best sellers list for quite a while). What I liked about the game is that they give lots of attention and development to each characters, as well as they sometimes tell the story from heroines point of view. Then again, this is the anime so all of that may not apply. But still, I’ll be following this to the end (I like all of the characters so it doesn’t really matter where the storyline goes for me).

Ah, Gift, my absolute favorite Bishoujo game of all time. The game had an easy-going, but often bittersweet atmosphere, which I totally loved. The characters are all so damn loveable (except for Kirino, whom I kinda hate), and the ways they blush are just…GOLDEN. Also, Riko, my second favorite Bishoujo character next to Kotori, is probably a ツンデレ at best. By the way, the Gift staff consist of mostly Da Capo (the game) staff, so you can expect VERY familiar events.

BTW Omni, are you going to be seeking helpers for the blog for this season? 😀

    Rasmiel
  21. Well reading your review of shows for my choice is:

    Will definitely try:

Lovedol ~Lovely Idol~ – cause of the seiyuu in the anime ^^
D.Gray-man – the manga is quite interesting
DEATH NOTE – what do you expect it’s DEATH NOTE and Aya Hirano is voicing it ^^
Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge – just because of Tomokazu Sugita I’m trying it out (ahh my favourite seiyuu because of Kyon and Gintoki)
Kanon(2006) – well it is famous even though I haven’t watch the old Kanon :p
Asatte no Houkou – looks interesting, been observing it for quite awhile
Sumomomo Momomo – hmm maybe because of the funny and lolicon part
Mamoru-kun ni Megami no Shukufuku wo! – well it look really interesting though
Shounen Onmyouji – Hmm… even I’m not sure
    Try:

Pumpkin Scissors, Ghost Hunt, Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge, CODE GEASS – Lelouch of the Rebellion, Jigoku Shoujo Futakomori, Otome wa Boku ni Koi Shiteru, Tenpou Ibun Ayakashi Ayashi,

    Setsuke
  22. So many of these series seem like they could be enjoyable, it’s going to be hard to find the time to watch all of them. I used to have a few criterias, but most of them are gone now (especially the “no mecha” one, thanks to ZEGAPAIN’s awesomeness).

What I’ll definitely be checking out, starting with stuff I’m looking forward to the most:
    Kanon
    Hataraki Man
    Jigoko Shoujo Futakomori
    DEATH NOTE
    Ayakashi Ayashi
    D.Gray-man
    Negima?!
    Lovedol ~Lovely Idol~
    Red Garden
    CODE GEASS
    Busou Renkin
Mamoru-kun ni Megami no Shukufuku wo!
    Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge

Then there’s a pretty long list that may be watched, depending on free time / subs, but I doubt I’ll get to watch more than 2 or 3 of these: Sumomomo Momomo, Shounen Onmyouji, Kekkaishi, Gin-iro no Olynssis, Happiness!, Kujibiki Unbalance, or Marginal Prince ~Gekkeiju no Oujitachi~.

  23. Nothing that significant, but I noticed that almost ALL bloggers ignored Super Robot Wars : OG in their fall preview. What’s up with that?
I have a pretty good guess as to why, and this applies to me as well: it’s because significant parts of the SPR: OG website and information didn’t go up until very recently. For that reason, it didn’t make my preliminary checklist, my secondary checklist, or even my third checklist. It wasn’t until 30 minutes before I posted this, when I was running through my final checklist, that I noticed they had finally revealed more stuff, and by then, I just wanted to put this entry up since it was 3AM in the morning.
Having said that, when I get a chance, I’ll update this post with information about that, and maybe Soukou no Strain and Kenichi too.

  24. BTW Omni, are you going to be seeking helpers for the blog for this season? 😀
Yes, yes I am. But this time, I’m going to be a bit more stringent and be looking for jap/chin proficient people who can prove that key can keep up with a series weekly.

  25. Death Note! DEATH NOTE!!! 😀

D-Grey Man, Kanon, and even though I hadn’t heard of it before, I’m now rather excited to see Ayakashi Ayashi.

I’m intrigued by Pumpkin Scissors and Bakumatsu now as well.

And it isn’t on your list, but I am EXTREMELY excited for both the anime and live action versions of Nodame Cantabile. I hope you can give it a look — since you’re a big HachiKuro fan I think you’d enjoy this delightful slice-of-life series too. 🙂

  26. Thanks for this good summary. As one of the few fans of Lemon Angel Project, it gives me a thrill to see you count Chihara Minori as a reason to watch Lovedol. From a nobody to a star in one series (SHnY, lol). But I’m looking in vain for shows that sound like they have the relationship/character/romance magic of Simoun, Nana or Bokura ga Ita. Oh, well, fortunately two of those shows are continuing. And I ALWAYS find that seasons end up better than expected. By the way, there is a good reason to have hopes for the new Negima, despite how lame the first one was: it’s directed by Shinbou Akiyuki (Tsukuyoki Moon Phase, Paniponi Dash).

  27. death note death note death note death note!!….mm and i’m a little curious about d-gray man, but just a little, at least for me the manga didn’t offer anything new, is something like bleach(i don’t like bleach)but in a gothic style, i think that the things that caught my attention were the gothic style and the character design(Allen resembles Edward from FMA)

    Fairy
  28. Lots of shows this fall. I saw that Gin….whatever with Shinn(with Kira hair colour and eyes) with someone looking like Stellar(with colours similar to Lacus) and was like WTF, GSG deja vu?

Too many interesting shows out there.

    Omni into the yuri/ecchi? 🙂

    Gil
  29. pretty good for this season,
as always im looking foward for almost all the series
but what i got in my mind rigth now are

    Lovedol ~Lovely Idol~
Yoake Mae Yori Ruriiro na Crescent Love
    D.Gray-man
    DEATH NOTE
    Negima!?
Mamoru-kun ni Megami no Shukufuku wo!
    Tenpou Ibun Ayakashi Ayashi

  30. this is has the potential to be one hell of a season.

I will def be watching: death note, D.Gray-man, Pumpkin Scissors, Lovely Idol, Ghost Hunt, Crescent Love, Mamoru-kun, kanon, Hataraki Man, Otome wa Boku ni Koi Shiteru, Tenpou Ibun Ayakashi Ayashi, Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto, Sumomomo Momomo, CODE GEASS – Lelouch of the Rebellion, and eternal rainbow.

  32. Migs: Not to mention disliking the mecha genre seems to be a recurring thing among anime bloggers.
I don’t know who you’re talking about, but I have a fondness for them (see ZEGAPAIN, Sousei no Aquarion, and even GSD).

Haohmaru: Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto, anyone know how to watch the trailer for this. The youtube link doesn’t work and the link on the official site is weird.
Sorry, the video was still up when I posted it. Dunno why the uploader decided to take it down. Unfortunately, I’ve been told that GyaO doesn’t work for people outside of Japan so I dunno where else the promo video could be.

v1cious: are you just not a fan of action shows? no offenese but Eternal Rainbow ovber Black Lagoon? ugh…
I can say for sure I’m not against action shows. See FSN, Mai-Otome, FMP! TSR, Shakugan no Shana, Blood+, Bleach, just to name a few.
You sound like you’re pissed off just because I’m not doing Black Lagoon, but I think I made it pretty clear that I’m not blogging it because I never finished watching or wrote about the first season. And that’s not because it’s bad series or because I hate action shows, but because it ended up being a victim of a bad airtime – it showed on Saturdays and my Saturdays were full with the aforementioned Blood+ and Tsubasa Chronicle (both of which I had a commitment to finish). Once again, there’s a limit to how many series I can cover myself.

  33. kannon is the only show listed i will watch for sure of the shows you have listed right now.i will look into watching about 1/3 of the shows you have listed. thank you OMNI for your hard work finding info on all theese shows and posting links on them.I have seen 2 brief mentions of Sōsei no Aquarion – Uragiri no Tsubasa possibly coming out in october season also. is there a chance you will blog it if it does.

    moonglum
  34. As usual, your awesome omni. I can always look forward to you giving previews of the seasons new shows! I wouldn’t know half of these if it weren’t for you. Thanks for your hard work!

  36. Oh, WOW. You just totally inspired me to wipe my harddrive clean to prepare myself to download the Fall 2006 shows. Okay, maybe not to that extreme, but at least burn off whatever I can.

Man, my GPA is going to go below a 3.0. XP But anime is so lovely…. XD

    silverbell3990
  37. hmm i you blog:
    -D.Gray-man (must)
-Death note (must)actually i’m dissapointed with its manga i think never mind

-Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto (beacuse of the singer who is my favourite singer so i’m looking forward);pumpkin scissors (i think the story will be nice);ayakahi ayashi (very wanted to know the story because many people said this anime was good);Gin-iro no Olynssis (because i like the character design who doing the GSD)and hataraki man (i think the story will be funny)
-kekkaishi;La Corda D’Oro;gosht hunt and busou renkin (i had already read the manga so i don’t really feel interest)
and the rest i don’t know

    muhi_kira
  38. Oh yeah another maybe was Kenichi. I read a bit of it and it seems like a fun watch. Depends on whether it will be subbed. I don’t mind Watching Kekkaishi and Reborn raw if it comes to that but…since raws are usually avalible only on Bittorent and i can’t use it i have to limit my raw watching. So if Kenichi gets subbed i’ll watch it.

    Bomber D Rufi
  39. ok… I’ve done my list, but if someone don’t fansubs my titles, I can’t watch them ç_ç

My “most wanted” anime is Hataraki man. I love Moyoco Anno so I want so badly watch this show XD

    And also I’m interested into:
    D.Gray-man
    Death Note
    Kanon
    Jigoku Shoujo: Futakomori
    Kekkaishi
    La Corda D’Oro
    Pumpkin Scissors
    Tenpou Ibun Ayakashi Ayashi

    That’s all, I think 😀

  40. Ill definitely watch D.Gray-Man since i am a fan of it.
also Death Note since im a big big fan of L!

Also CODE GLASS since im a big fan of CLAMP animations.
hmm….what else…..oh and Bousou Renkin and GhostHunt.

    ErgoProxy
  41. Except for Negima, maybe Galaxy Ange-Rune, and an even bigger maybe Otome wa Boku ni Koi Shiteru; this anime season will SUCK and SUCK-like-a-$25-prostitute-hard. Just like last season.

Why? Because the quickest way for those companies to get to the wallets of those poor Japanese is through their genitals. How many H-related dating games and suggestive mangas have been turned into talking eye-candy?

I also have my concerns with Negima being done by Gainax and Shaft. I still hadn’t forgiven Gainax for “having a hand” (wink-wink, nudge-nudge) in the Enangelion series. And these losers are working on MORE EVA. Why can’t these guys just move on?!

    Tyrenol
  42. God, so much to download. My ISP is going to be sending people to break my knees or something. Let’s see, there’s not really any paticulat shows I’m dying to see, so I’ll be giving most of them a shot, the new Negima looks good, and of course I’ll be watching the new Kanon. All those bishoujo series look pretty cute, especially the one with the Nishimata character designs. I may or may not follow Busou Renkin – I read the manga for a while but it just didn’t appeal… I’ve read too many generic shunen action series that have the exact same premise… Pumpkin Sissors looks good, though… except Gonzo has fired a few duds lately.

    Wererat42
  43. Oooo, so many things to watch! But I’m definitely watching D.Gray-man and DEATH NOTE (never got around to finish the manga yet either). 8D

Then there are the ones that interest me… Tenpou Ibun Ayakashi Ayashi, CODE GEASS, and Pumpkin Scissors.

    omchan
  44. OMG…..more animes! Crap…..now I’ll have to dig out more time just to watch the whole load of them. I’ve already read most of the mangas of the series stated here and I gotta say some of them aren’t as bad as you guys think, especially Busou Renkin, though I must say the manga series seems a little short. Shijo Saikyo no Deshi Kenichi is pretty decent too. I’ve followed the manga up till volume 21 and its getting more and more interesting with every volume. Now let’s see….the list of animes I’ll definitely be watching will be:

    -Busou Renkin
    -Shounen Onmyouji
    -DEATHNOTE
    -D.Gray-man
    -Katekyo Hitman REBORN
    -Tenpou Ibun Ayakashi
    -Kekkaishi
    -Shijo Saikyo no Deshi Kenichi
    -Kanon (maybe)
    -Black Lagoon
    -Happiness
    -Pumpkin Scissors (manga pretty decent)
    -CODE GEASS

Damn…..now I seriously gotta plan how to manage my schoolwork and animes 🙁

    dward

  47. I wanna see if D. Gray-man and CODE GEASS will be any good. I’ve been following the D.Gray-man manga for a while now but I’m afriad it might end up with a bunch of fillers like most shonen animes do. :\ And as for CODE GEASS, I think 90% of the viewers are just gonna watch it (or at least the first episode) cus the characters are designed by CLAMP. XD As for the actual plot…that we will see.

  48. Hmm…Probably a few series that I’ve seen much hype with, and a few others with impressions, be it first or before.

    Manga impressions
    DeathNote
    D.Grayman
    History’s Strongest Disciple Kenichi
    Negima!?

To tell the truth, I haven’t really followed DeathNote and D.Grayman, but I’ve read a few chapters. The only thing keeping me from following is the fact that I have too many manga series to follow as well as problems with my spending.
HSDK and Negima-The former’s good in the sense that the manga’s informative, the fights are exciting and humor’s good. I don’t know how the anime would turn out though. The latter needs no introduction

    First Impressions
Yoake Mae Yori Ruriiro na Crescent Love
    CODE GEASS
    Kanon
    Soukou no Strain

I can’t say the same for the others thus far…Maybe I’ll take a look at those few that seem to be stereotypical.

  49. yo just tellin the site manager that the ending of death note was crap. well it was for me. personaly if i could go back in time i’d tell myself not to see the ending and enjoy the series as it was then.

i realy hope the anime series will give it the ending it deserves.

  50. to migs

the reason no one cares about that anime is because its stupid mecha. realy mecha idea is dead. seriously. i’m sure everyone in this chatroom has seen more of it than they would want to, its axctualy kinda ordinary now, no one wants to watch something thats ordinary.

  51. Lost Seeker:
    You haven’t seen Zegapain, I guess? 😉

Also, everytime I hear anybody saying “everyone in the community does not like genre x”, or something to that extent, I have to stop myself from laughing so hard that I fall to the floor 😉

Don’t project your own opinion on the entire community, some – depending on whats it about, maybe even a large majority – might agree with the opinion (“Mecha suck and are overused”, “Anime based on eroge are simple and stupid”, “Ninja using “magic” are ridiculous and overused”, “There are far to many Tsundere leads” – think of anything) – but certainly not the whole community.
I mean, there are also people preferring dubs to subs, after all 😉

For that matter, even the “most people think Mecha are overused” argument… where did you get your statistics please? 😉

  52. Ugh. Too many shows. Not enough time.

    My list goes:
    Highly Anticipated:
Code Geass – Sunrise + Good Budget and FLOW singing the theme song + CLAMP(!)= Must Watch
Red Garden – Am I the only one who’s really looking foward to this show? For some reason when watching the preview, I kept thinking of “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie,” (old film, probably no one’s heard of it), even though the two have nothing to do with each other
    D.Gray-Man – I love the manga
Sumomomo Momomo – I read the first four volumes of the manga and it was hilarious, especially vol. 2!! I really want to see that animated!
Ghost Hunt – I like the manga and J.C. Staff is animating
Pumpkin Scissors – I really get FMP vibes from this one because of GONZO + war torn setting
Kanon – I loved AIR and tried to watch the first Kanon, but couldn’t really get into because the only thing I was able to focus on were the giant chins -_-”
Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto – Saw the preview and it just felt right. Looks really good, basically, from animation to music plus Rurouni Kenshin people are working on it
Mamoru-kun ni Megami no Shukufuku wo! – Like character designs and plot concept

Not as much anticipation, but will watch:
Yamato Nadeshiko Shichihenge – I like the manga, but the anime looks like it will be much better, especially with Nabeshin(!) directing
Hataraki Man – Moyoco Anno, with theme song by Puffy AmiYumi and insert song by Sambomaster. ’nuff said.
Death Note – Great manga, although it fell into a lull after the first major arc, will definitely watch it though.
Negima?! – I love Akamatsu-sensei’s works and Shaft looks like its going to do a good job.
History’s Strongest Disciple Kenichi – Read up to volume 5 so far, and have enjoyed it, plus the animation from the preview looks pretty good (albeit a bit dated). The fight was animated well, though.
Ayakashi Ayashi – Don’t like the dated chara design much, but it’s BONES + Porno Graffiti and ikimono-gakari doing the OP and END. Plus, I got used to Juuosei’s chara designs, even though I didn’t like them at first either.
Shows I will at least watch the first episode of:
Asatte no Houkou – Cute concept. The character designs are okay.
009-1 – Liked the last 009 series, but it’s not that high on my priorities.
Kekkaishi – The manga’s okay, it’s not really the best in the world, but Sunrise is animating.
Galaxy Angel II – Probably won’t follow this series, but I might look at it.
Tokimeki Memorial – I’ll probably look at it for understanding the mass references in other manga, but it will probably turn out to be standard fare entertainment.
Busou Renkin – I read some of the manga and like the character designs, but the preview just wasn’t appealing.
Reborn! – I’ve only read one chapter of the manga, so I can’t say much about it, apart from it being a Shonen Jump series.
Happiness! – Artland is animating this and the chara designs are okay.
Lovedol ~Lovely Idol~ – I’ve seen the preview and the animation looks okay, not that high in quality, but consistent, and I liked the one scene between the purple haired girl and the protagonist, but the songs suck really badly. You would think having so many prolific seiyuu working on the show, the songs would sound good, but no.
Yoake Mae Yori Ruri Iro Na – To be honest, I really don’t like the character designs, anime or game, but the title image on the site looks good. The preview was ok, but there was nothing really appealing about it.
Shounen Onmyouji – I probably will watch this for the theme song which sounds really good, but currently I know almost nothing about the series or the novels, apart from the general plot.
Black Lagoon 2nd Season – I didn’t finish watching the first one, although I’ve read the scanslated manga, due to lack of time, but the brutal gothloli twincest might make me watch this.
Gift ~eternal rainbow~ – I don’t like the chara designs for this either, but I haven’t seen a preview yet, so I don’t know how this is going to turn out.
Kujibiki Unbalance – The art quality is good and I’ll probably check this out because 1)my love for Genshiken and 2) Mizushima Seiji is directing
Soukou no Strain – The character designs aren’t very appealing, but the mecha reminds me of Vandread
Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru – I like the chara designs and the preview was okay.
La Corda d’Oro – Standard shoujo fare and I didn’t like the first chapter of the manga very much, but it might have good music. The character designs are too sparkly, though.
Marginal Prince – I actually like these character designs more that Gift and Yoake (apart from the title image) combined, but I can already tell that unless the staff does something drastic, this will probably turn out really boring. Not even bishounen can save this.

That was a really long list, sorry, and I’ll probably only end up getting to watch one show because of my schedule -_-”.

    flou
  53. I’ll look forward to seeing which ones you end up blogging 🙂

Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto and Tenpou Ibun Ayakashi Ayashi look like sure-fire winners. Code Geass and Gin-iro no Olynssis should fill the mecha void left by Zegapain. Pumpkin Scissors, D.Gray-man and Kekkaishi alos look promising, but I’ll probably watch most if not all of the first eps of each series, barring the obvious trash.

    Sonhex
  54. Hmm….I’m pretty surprised most people don’t intend to watch Pumpkin Scissors. I personally thought it’ll be a good anime. The manga have pretty decent action scenes, and I find it kinda meaningful. Look, how many guys out there are able to go face to face with a modern tank armed with a gun that’ll only pierce through tanks at point blank range?

    dward
  55. I think Death Note will be a disaster, as it’s a series with really unappealing visuals and a lot of dialogue that probably won’t make a very good transition to television. This series is really a lot better suited for a radio drama rather than an anime, but hey, I guess whatever money earned from this series would be welcomed; Ohba would probably like more teacups and Obata would probably like to get out of jail.

  56. Wow 27 shows I am going to atleast check out o.O.. Well luckily I have 150 gb left in my external hard drive but 🙁 my PSAT and SAT are coming up sigh..

  57. @ Malintex Terek:

Well, I don’t think it would be too much of a problem for Death Note to transit into anime. Death Note is all about strategy, suspense and yes, a lot of dialogue. But isn’t Detective Conan (one of my favorite show) the same? Both Detective Conan and Death Note rely on mystery, logical deduction and plot twists to entertain their audiences. Personally, I don’t see a problem here.

    deltazechs
  58. Oh geez.
I’m. DEFINATELY. Going to watch Deathnote. ;O I’ve been waiting for it to become
a anime ever since the manga was released.
    I’m proabably going to watch:
    Death Note
Bartender (Yes, I shall try this anime. :D)
    Tenpou Ibun Ayakashi Ayashi (DEFINATELY.)
Katekyo Hitman REBORN! (I don’t think I’ll like it, but it looks pretty cute.)
    Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto (Another DEFINATE.)
CODE GEASS – Lelouch of the Rebellion (I’ll try.)
    Ghost Hunt
    D.Gray-man.
    ;O MAN. I CAN’T WAIT UNTIL OCTOBER.

    Moolah
  59. Things I’m going to be watching, what quality will swap depending on how good the show turns out to be 😛
    High quaility:
D.Gray-Man (was a good manga for a long time, then it fell into the Shounen hole and Alan became a Sue -.- + battle of the week.)
Code Geass (CLAMP fangirl, working on the scanlations)
    Kanon (prettyful)
Death Note (hopefuly it wont drag like the manga did at the end >.>)

    Youtube quality:
Tenpou Ibun Ayakashi Ayashi (you made it sound interesting)
Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge (Decent manga)
Lovedol ~Lovely Idol~ (You also made this sound interesting)
Pumpkin Scissors (for the name O.o)

Give me 2 weeks and I’ll prob be watching only half those series, but for now we have potential~!

  60. Here are the anime shows this fall that I’m most excited about, starting from most interested to least:

Ayakashi Ayashi – I have always liked the shows that have aired in that Saturday timeslot (Gundam SEED, Fullmetal Alchemist, Gundam SEED Destiny, and Blood+), and I wouldn’t be surprised if this anime does the same. I have high expectations for this anime, and I hope it won’t disappoint. So far, the summary shows it as a team of heroes vs. monsters, but there’s obviously more to the story than that. Overall, I pick this as the most interesting.

Death Note – This one really comes close to Ayakashi Ayashi in terms of my interest. I’ve heard nothing but good things about its manga counterpart, and from the looks of it, it sounds like something similar to Detective Conan, and I really liked that show and its cases. So if Death Note is anything like that, I’ll probably watch it and enjoy it as well.

Negima!? – Yeah, I do like Negima and I’m interested in how this remake by SHAFT will turn out. From what I have heard, it’s following its own story and not the manga, so this might depend on how the first few episodes turn out.

Busou Renkin – The main reason I’m giving this a shot is because this was done by the same guy who did Rurouni Kenshin, and that was an awesome show. Like with Negima!?, I’ll probably watch the first few episodes to see if it’s intriuging or not. If not, I’ll pass it up.

I currently have no other interest in the other anime shows premiering, but I may change my mind, depending on comments by others, as well as the shows that Omni blogs.

    Destinyblade
  61. Hey, looking forward for Kanon 2006…. A MUST WATCH!!!!
Also curious to see how SUNRISE and CLAMP work it out in Code Geass

Hey, what about Maria-sama ga Miteru OVA.. its due mid November I guess. Correct me if I am wrong

I think I will go ahead and check all out anyway… (what the hell, nothing to loose ^_^ .. i just keeps getting better and better)

    Ronin
  62. Kenichi!!!!!! YAY!!!! This is going to be great!

My list: Kenichi, Kubijiki, Wallflower and Busou Renkin. The rest will have to wait for that all important first episode test…

    Tashady
  63. OMG, I love you x infinity. (^___^)

I followed every episode of Strawberry Panic with RC.

I’m a jaded fan, but I will definitely give these a try. Here’s a tentative list:

    Dr. Gray-man
    Pumpkin Scissors
    Death Note (heard good things)
    Code Geass (CLAMP, ’nuff said)
    Bakumatsu
    Wallflower (guilty pleasure)
    Marginal Prince (guilty pleasure)
Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru (guilty pleasure)

If anyone is as jaded as I am and you find an excellent series, give us a shoutout! (^.^)v

  64. best shows I liked but not sure if Omni will end up blogging these 3 are:

Mamoru-kun ni Megami no Shukufuku wo!
    Asatte no Houkou
Busou Renkin (which omni gave a poor =( )

Mamoru-kun ni Megami no Shukufuku wo!: I mean a girl who confesses and forces the guy to be his girlfriend. First time I’ve seen this in a anime lol

Asatte no Houkou: the whole freaky friday thing is kinda cool.

Busou Renkin: good art animation and a girl with a cute scar across her nose. and her alchemy weapon is so cool. Seems from the first 2 episode the guy has a thing for the girl but this is typical of all anime’s usually.

    ctjanus
  65. I will watch Death Note,Kanon,Pumpkin Scissors,Otome wa Boku no Kishetiru(not sure of the spelling),Yoeke Mae Yori Ruri iro na(not sure of the spelling too)Happiness!,Sumomo Momomo,Code Geass,Lovely Idol and Gift.I’m so dead.

  66. I demand you blog Asatte no Houkou (use the catch-up days!). I can’t believe you didn’t cover the most awesome first episode of it out of all the first episodes that week for this series. =(

  68. Hey Omni 🙂

That’s one hell of a great list! So anyways, I ended up picking D. Gray-Man, Death Note, Negima!?, Ghost Hunt, Red Garden, Pumpkin Scissors and La Corda d’Oro – no complaints here 🙂

I thoroughly enjoy all of your reviews, so keep up the good work, champ!

  69. That’s a LOT of shows there.

Well, I found about 7 of these shows interesting at the beginning, picked up a couple to read for a while, dropped some along the way, and I am mostly reading now. Currently, I am waiting for some shows to get more episodes before I decide wheter to watch them. I actually watched a couple of episodes from 11 shows, but that’s it.

Soukou no Strain is most likely the only show I’ll watch in its entirety.

    David
  70. I’m not surprised a lot of people didn’t latch onto Red Garden, but it’s turned out to be a satisfying series… even though the Japanese rarely get NYC. And I rather like the character design in Red Garden. Reminds me of Escaflowne and Argento Soma, which both had great animation.
