Summary:
On a desert battlefield, Princess Cornelia and her forces destroy their enemies and establish Area 18. In Japan, Lelouch returns home to find C.C. making origami cranes with Nanaly. His sister thinks that C.C. is his lover, but C.C. says that they’re connected by having promised their futures. Nanaly wonders if that means marriage, but Lelouch denies it. By intentionally dropping and breaking her teacup, Lelouch then pretends C.C. spilled tea on herself, allowing him to pretend to take her to the bathroom. In reality, he takes her to his room and questions who she is. She knows that he thinks she died, but she changes the subject to his new power. Lelouch actually thanks her for it because it allowed him to move up his schedule of destroying Britannia. Since he says that he was planning on doing this even without the eye, C.C. comments on how he’s as interesting a guy as she had expected. She’s planning on staying here and in fact has already taken off her clothes and climbed into his bed. He tries to ask her about what happened, but she just bids him good night and falls asleep.
The next day, Lloyd and Cecil are talking about how other groups across Japan are following Lelouch’s lead by continuing the revolution and how Jeremiah’s leadership is gone. And with Britannia in disarray, there are members of the Japanese Liberation Front who think that it’s time for the group to stand up, but their leader Toudou warns against being impatient. Still in Lelouch’s room, C.C. is reading magazines about Zero and remarks on how everyone is looking for him and that the whole world is moving for him. Putting on his jacket for school, Lelouch thinks that the world will be thrown into even more confusion. It is on this very same day that Suzaku is freed because of the insufficient evidence against him for the murder of Clovis. As he’s walking out, Suzaku suddenly hears a girl call from above and catches her as she falls right in front of him. The girl claims that bad people are chasing her, so she needs his help. Introducing herself as Yufi, the girl seems to know exactly who he is. After Yufi talks to and bandages up a hurt cat, Suzaku asks her why she lied about being chased. She takes the question as a sign that he’s concerned about her, so she drags him to keep her company for a while longer. As they have fun around town, Yufi reveals that she’s on her last holiday and wanted to see Area 11. But then she surprises him by asking him to show her Shinjuku. Unbeknownst to Suzaku, Lloyd and Cecil caught sight of him earlier and have been following him by car.
At school, Lelouch is approached by Kallen who wants to inquire about the bathroom incident. As he looks up at her, Lelouch is shocked to see C.C. prancing around in the background. Kallen notices he’s looking at something and tries to turn around, but Lelouch grabs her and appears to kisses her, which Shirley accidentally sees. Afterwards, Lelouch takes C.C. to the rooftop where he scolds her for coming because she’s an outsider. In response, C.C. says that she’s an outsider wherever she is. She then notices a girl scratching a mark on the school wall, which Lelouch explains is done everyday because of his GEASS power. C.C. quickly figures out that this must be a duration test to see how long the GEASS effect will last. In any case, she considers herself and Lelouch to be accomplices now. Meanwhile, Yufi and Suzaku have arrived in the ruins of the Shinjuku Ghetto where there are markers everywhere for dead loved ones. They notice that a nearby pair of Britannian high school kids – who were goofing around and taking photos – are being confronted by some of the Eleven rebels. Suzaku breaks up what was about to develop into a fight, but in the process he gets his sunglasses knocked away. Everyone recognizes who he is, and the Eleven named Tamaki Shinichiro chides him for selling his pride, his friends, and his soul to be an honorary Britannian. When Tamaki tries to throw a punch, Suzaku easily throws him over his shoulder. The Eleven rebels decide to leave instead of fight, though Tamaki still calls Suzaku a traitor as he’s walking off.
Despite having been saved, the two Britannians aren’t grateful at all for what Suzaku did since they thought that he came too slowly. Yufi ends up slapping one of them for his comments, saying that she won’t permit them to insult Suzaku any further. Back in his room, Lelouch is explaining to C.C. what he’s figured out about his GEASS powers. For starters, he has to make direct eye contact to use it, though glasses pose no problem. The effective range of it is about 270 meters, and victims have no memory of it. Lelouch attributes that last part to some damage the GEASS is doing to people’s cerebrums. And if it is optical information, a reflection is possible. Lelouch’s opponent is the empire that covers over 1/3 of the world, but C.C. thinks that it’s too large and too strong to fight with one GEASS, making Lelouch wonder if he only has to become strong. At that exact same moment, Suzaku is telling Yufi about how the world had looked very sad to him at the age of ten. Starvation, disease, corruption, rotting, discrimination, and war and terrorism were all repeated over and over in a chain of hatred – a foolish, vicious circle. Lelouch and Suzaku both think that someone should sever this chain, which C.C. calls idealistic. Of course, they aren’t arrogant enough to think that they can get rid of all of those things, but they want a world where you can not lose the people precious to you, a world without war. For Lelouch, the fighting will end when someone wins. Suzaku personally isn’t quite sure, but he does know that he can’t lose sight of the goal or else his father’s death will have been in vain.
It is at this point that Suzaku hears and sees an explosion coming from a nearby stadium. Having been lured there by a report about Zero, Jeremiah is now surrounded by his former allies of the Pure-Blood Faction who aren’t happy with what happened last time. Outside the stadium, Lloyd and Cecil drive up to Suzaku and Yufi in their trailer that houses Lancelot. Since Suzaku recognizes this as a chance to gather combat data for the Lancelot, he apologizes to Yufi because they have to part ways here, but he knows that he must go. Right as Jeremiah is about to be attacked from all sides, the enemy Sutherlands are stopped in their tracks by the Lancelot. With no choice but to fight fellow Britannians, Suzaku pulls out the Lancelot’s MVS (Maser Vibration Swords) and starts cutting through the Sutherlands’ weapons. Having learned about this plot earlier, Viletta also joins the battle to defend Jeremiah. The leader of their opponents decides to pull out a grenade-style weapon that hovers in the air while it rapidly empties its machine gun clip, but he throws it right as Yufi runs onto the battlefield. Thinking quickly, Suzaku deploys the Lancelot’s shield and protects everyone through the duration of the device. To their surprise, Yufi then orders both sides to put away their weapons and announces herself to be Britannia’s third princess Euphemia Le Britannia. With this new revelation, the Sutherlands all bow down to her, as does Suzaku when he gets off his Lancelot. She tells him that she lost her brother Clovis just like he lost his father and then asks him to lend his strength so that no more people will lose a loved one. That night, Euphemia meets with her sister Cornelia who is now bent on capturing Zero. It is on the next day at school that the real Zero – Lelouch – actually experiences a surprise of his own when he finds Suzaku introducing himself to the class as a new student.

Preview:

This show remains awesome. Last week I had been hoping for more involvement from the female cast, and this week’s episode gave us just that. I thought C.C. (pronounced shi-tsu) might be like act like an android or someone unaccustomed to society, but she’s actually got a great spunky attitude. Then there’s Euphemia, who I can easily see turning into a Lacus-type character. She hit it off with Suzaku, so maybe they’ll become a pair. And as for Cornelia, she’s probably destined to die since Clovis named her as someone who knows about Lelouch’s mother’s death and because she appears to be the next villain since she’s so bent on capturing Zero.
But I guess I was wrong about Suzaku and Lelouch being on separate paths, since Suzaku joins Lelouch’s class at the end of this episode – maybe the Gundam SEED Kira/Athrun parallels end here. I’m curious to see how the two guys act towards one another having been reunited a second time after the first time was on the battlefield. From the preview, next week’s episode appears to take place mostly at their school.
And remember folks, Pizza Hut supports the rebellion!

  1. LoL, looks like they’re still placing Pizza Hut’s logo around in the show.
And they all seem to use Japan’s Biglobe as a search engine =P

Interesting background music used from around 10 minutes in or so.

  2. In Hong Kong, the Pizza huts there are pretty high class. Are they the same in Japan too?

Also; this makes you wonder if Pizza hut made a deal with the production company to advertise their products. That or the cast always have pizza hut when working 😀

  3. to prime lab: that is the knightmare frame that cornelia uses (one of the Britannian princesses and one of the leaders of the army apparently). Cornelia is the “other” pink-haired woman that makes her first appearance in this ep.

i was thinking C.C. will be very “lofty” and “silent” but i was completely wrong. She’s rather independent and self-serving (lol), and it reminded me of a bratty mashiro (but much older).

  4. Lol….I thought I was seeing stuffs when I saw pizza hut up there…..now, did Suzaka ended up joining the Britannia army again? Anyway, I’m not worried about Suzaka and Lelouch going different paths. Remember the main character is Lelouch after all. I have a feeling Suzaka may one day be able to change Lelouch aggressive attitude towards the Britannia.

  5. >>Last week I had been hoping for more female characters
Oh come on…as long as they’re useful and tied to the plot, fine. But don’t wish for a harem please.
Anyway, it looks awesome as usual!

  6. TANKX mewmew 😛 it looks cool so i wanted to know what it was. Come on, Lelouch doesn t need to change his attitude he is just fine the way he is. Thats why we like him, well at least i do. 😛 OH YEAH, N ALL HAIL PIZZA HUT Damn! i’m hungry now

  7. holy shit! the plot twist at the end had me gasping.

In other news, suzaku, karen and lelouche get owned pretty frequently in this episode… by (cat luffie), (lelouche), and (c2, imouto, and c2 again) respectively

  8. OMFG I KNEW THEY WERE PUTTING PIZZA HUT SIGNS IN IT ALOT BUT RIGHT FREAKIN THERE, ROFL I CANT STOP LAUGHING.

cant wait for GG to fansub this, guess i gotto wait a week. I hope CC doesnt end up with suzaku, cause i dont like his character, mostly cause he a goody two shoes who doesn’t realize war requires sacrifices.

    bak3donh1gh
  9. something tells me CC will end up with lelouch instead o_O then again, there’s the whole karen x lelouch fandom. and i think suzaku will probably end up with eufemia.

    those are just my guesses.

    mango
  10. will Eufemia be saying these to Suzaku: “neither will nor power is able to win these war… i will present these ‘sword'(frame) to you”
will sunrise be using these phrase again?

  11. But how did C2 get out of the labs in the first place? That’s one big plot hole I’d like to know, that and how Lelouch kills the prince but somehow ends up home with no recollection of after the shooting.

Pizza Hut – the shizzle yo.

    g-money
  12. @g-money
Terrorists stole the “poison bomb” but it was actually C.C. in it so I don’t see much of a plot hole there. Lelouch does not “somehow ends up home with no recollection of after the shooting” even though that Omni said he “regains consciousness” in his blog post of episode 3. If GG’s translation is accurate(I sure hope so) it was never implied that Lelouch magically end up home the NEXT day with his friends and he had full memory of what happened. The show simply just jumped ahead and gave a small flashback of him killing Clovis.

Eeh I suck at writing but I hope you got the gist of it.

    Selenite
  13. Don’t think C.C. was ever taken back by the military ever since she got a headshot. In fact, if you’ve read Omni’s ep3 post, the photo of C.C. in a lab was just a picture of their past experiments before it was declared a “failure”.
Seriously though, I hope that Eufemia doesn’t end up becoming a Lacus clone..

In other news, Soukou no Strain is shaping up to be another good mecha series for this season. 🙂

    Kaito
  14. Sorry, what I meant was how did C2 end up in Lelouch’s house when I believed she got taken away again by that female pilot on the Empire’s side. As for the Clovis stint, it still doesn’t explain how Lelouch has no memory of what he did afterward – still strange to me no matter how revolting murder is. He does not know what he did after he was about to pull the trigger; it’s not a simple matter of just jumping more into the present. Still, you guys have to admit that C2 just reappearing behind Nanaly is just mind-boggling when we all presumed C2 to be dead, (but really alive) recaptured, or just MIA.

    g-money
  15. What’s the name for Clovis’ ‘violet’ command knightmare carrier tank?
Because I’m gonna go crazy if Yufi gets a ‘red’ command knightmare carrier tank!

Anyone noticed the picture of C.C. in a battle field with a British Mark II WorldWar One tank in the background? If you compare the Knightmare frame to that old tank, then how old is C.C.?

    oh, and
    Hail Pizza Hut!!

    obethx
  16. yea ive already read some post somewhere about how shes 1060(?)(its set in 3010 right i dun remember)Well i do like older women, though not that old, but its not like shes aged ;)much
Though since i dont understand japanese im only on episode 3 so i cant help to much where else.
Does anyone else think that the whole pizza hut thing is just a joke by the animators?

    bak3donh1gh
  17. G-money, want makes you think Lulu has no memory of after he shot Clovis. There also no scenes to show that the military recaptured C-2. There is the fact that when she was last scene she was bleeding with a head shot wound. We probably won’t find out how she’s lived so long until much later in the show.

    Monstratboy
  18. Lulu does have his memory of the murder…he was just surprised that the news is not publically broadcast that CLovis is dead right away ( he mentions that the empire is waiting for something big before declaring their leader is dead) – and when he thought about this , it brought him to relive that very moment where he shot Clovis. I felt that Lulu has a conscience (even though I think he is mad in the way)by the way he wanted to throw up knowing that he really did kill Clovis. As of now, I getting a bad vibe between the friendship of Suzaku and Lulu.

  19. It’s odd how my fellow animaniacs suddenly decided to switch from Dominos Pizza to Pizza Hut after watching Code Geass, go figure eh?
I agree that I am getting slowly hooked onto this series, and how the way things are turning out. Lelouch is definately one of my most favourite anti-hero characters ever, of course tied to Death Note’s main char. But yeah, this has so far been awesome…

    Vander
  20. wee another cool episode!!
i like the story in here becoz i’m also eating pizza from pizza hut!!! *hail! pizza hut!*
anyways C.C is becoming popular becoz she’s just soo cool! XD
though i’ll prefer C.C x Lelouch than Karen/Kallen well i just dont like Karen for some reasons……but i wonder how will Shirley going to do after she sees Lelouch almost kissed Karen..oh well better wait that for the next epi.

    zaira
  21. Oh no. Is everyone already arguing about future pairings? I might as well put my stock in then. I prefer Kallen. C.C has green hair! Not what I would call attractive. As far as looking attractive goes….Shirley wins. Think of her in the school swimsuit.

The Shirley angle is interesting. She continues to misinterpret things she sees between Kallen and Lelouch. Plotwise…..I have no idea where this is headed. She will learn Kallen is with the rebels and sell her out because of jealousy maybe? It’s hard to say.

    Rukia
  22. “shi-tsu” = “shits” 😀 (taken the jokes a part)

shi-tsu is the female version of Lelouch in my thoughts!!
every bit of attitude that he has she can easily copy plus 10 times alot more 😀
her voracious way in her actions, like suddenly take her clothes off and sleep on Lelouch´s bed (giving lelouch an angry face and off-hook )made me give some real hard laughs here!! 😀 😀
I just love her as every bit of character from this anime! But Lelouch, CC and Kallen so far are my favorite caracters!!
I really love this anime, D.gray man, Death note, Black blood brothers, Black lagoon 2nd, pumpkin scissors, kekkaishi and Irohanihoheto as the best( serious ones) animes this season…As it would be missing something here(LOLLLLLLLLL) Well “I am a tensai Otaku for sure ” 😉

    Tensai_Otaku
  23. As far as looking attractive goes….Shirley wins. Think of her in the school swimsuit.

    Quoted.For.Truth!

Where’s the love for Shirley? I like C2 myself (why wouldn’t I, her astonishing attitude made my day) but Shirley is still the top runner for me, regardless of her being a filler character. Lelouche treating her as a mere step-stone angers me the most about him (though that doesn’t strip him of the coolest anti-hero title).

As for the actual episode…Awesome as always. Jeremiah just moved up in the list of my favored characters, though I don’t really know why. Perhaps I have something for fallen-villains (what the hell does that mean lol).

By the way…I could have sworn Jeremiah is the one who threw the grenade…Meh, maybe I’ll watch that part again. X(

    Rasmiel
  24. Lelouch is the main Character, the series is name after him afterall. While Suzaku have the same idea as lelouch, he probably doesn’t agree with the killing people part so i think they will definitely butt heads. As for C.C, I think she will end up with Lelouch and Karen and Shirley will be left crying…

    boyfromtheSouth
  25. I dunno if this was already discussed previously (I don’t have the time to read through this blog word-for-word), but if so…well, so what? :p 😀

Anyway, I have a theory for why C.C. is alive, despite having been shot in the head in episode 1:

I think it might not be so much that C.C. is “still” alive, as much as it is that she’s “alive again.”

What I mean is, could she have a Miang from Xenogears thing, where if her current body dies she just awakens in another female body or something? It seems a bit too big/grand-scale for this series, since that would mean origin-of-life and stuff is involved, but it would certainly explain how she’s there. And she’s certainly not a ghost. lol

    Shinji103
  26. Hmm….I suppose the third princess have nothing to do with Lelouch’s mother’s death since Clovis mentioned about Cornelia and the 2nd prince. In any case, after reading the summary, I started realising that Lelouch ain’t as bad as we think afterall. The reason for all his action was to get his revenge on Britannia while at the same time create a world where they will no longer lose the one they love. And Suzaka….he’s seriously reminding me of Kira in GS. Like Kira, Suzaka doesn’t really know how to end a war but still fights nonetheless. On the other hand, Lelouch way of thinking sounds true initially but once you initiated a war, there’s never a winner and loser. Anyway, the interesting part is C.C mentioning about the power of ONE GEASS. Don’t tell me Lelouch will get more power upgrades in the future?

  27. REVIEW:

Soukou no STRAIN : animation is very nice, story is somewhat cliche, alot of characters die on the first episode(so if you´re the type who hates when they love to kill characters forget this one 😀 )sound is great, CGS are one of the best i´ve seen so far on anime(very polished)and after the first episode(1 hour special)the second one starts to get interesting on the story. = 8

PS: the seiyuu from RAFIEL(crest of the stars or seikai no senki),mahoromatic…etc is perfdect for the main caracter. Ayako Kawasumi(川澄綾子) I love this seiyuu´s voice, and she has also may age(30) 😀 “I love you my LAFIEL ” 😆

  28. bleh, just watched it. Despite me being very interested and excited by it, im a bit disappointed coz it’s becoming like a post-GSD flick. there are too many similarities so far… i still like it though, coz im a stubborn GS fan >.

  29. hmm i dunno. as far as the OP shows (and im going by the people caught in the mugshots near the end of the OP), there are a few “kinda main” characters besides lelouch. suzaku and C.C. are obviously one of them, as well as kallen. but what’s interesting is that shirley was also caught in the “mugshot” so maybe thats an indication that she’ll get more involved in this…

  30. Great anime, I’ve been looking around here for some time now my first reply. GREAT anime, one of the best I’ve ever seen. But what i don’t get in the next episode preview: It looks like Jeremiah was captured by Schneizel or what 0_o? If you look carefully that general that once served Clovis was also prosioned. But now awaits Jeremiah the same fate 0_o?

  31. GO C.C.! rocks! and thanks for putting up these screenshots and summaries~! 😀 really appreciate it.
but yeah. C.C. all the way. C.C.xLelouch? I THINK SO! LelouchxKaren? I THINK NOT! (:

  32. Karen is my favorite character though I wouldnt mind Lelouch staying with no one lol. Its just not his personality that I would see him with someone lovey dovey. Hes going to be king one day if all goes to plan.

    Ninjikiran
  33. I will definitely have to be watching this anime while eating Pizza. Does anyone know why the Anime News Network reports that Lelouch’s alternate personality Zaero will be a king? See: Lelouch becomes the masked king Zero to lead the rebellion to defeat Brittania. (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=6704)

The screenshots are beautiful. I did a double-take when I saw them b/c they look like official prints.

How did we start calling CC… CC?? Shi-tzu is the pronunciation or just the spelling?

    Zaero
  34. Am I the only one who thinks that Lelouch is completely screwed with Suzaku coming to his school?

Think about Lelouch’s position for a second. Back in Episode 2, when Lelouch made the pinky promise with Nanali, Lelouch talked about if their true identities were ever discovered, the two of them would be taken away for propaganda purposes. This means that if Lelouch’s identity were ever to be revealed, his plan to defeat Britannia is effectively over.

But wait a second, you say, how is his identity ever going to be revealed? Recall back in Episode 2, when Lelouch had his verbal exchange with Clovis, that Lelouch was supposed to be dead. Yet Clovis instantly made the connection after Lelouch started hinting at his identity and later claiming to be the 17th heir. The connection? Euphemia and Suzaku. From episode 5, it can be inferred that they are on relatively decent speaking terms. Let’s say Suzaku *accidentally* drops that his best friend’s name is Lelouch? (He obviously asked Cecil and Lloyd to check that Lelouch was not killed in the Shinjiku Ghetto, so he isn’t hesitant about asking around for Lelouch.) Wouldn’t Euphemia instantly make the connection that Lelouch (how many people go by that name?) might be her half-brother and part of the royal family?

Of course, Euphemia doesn’t know Lelouch killed Clovis, so that won’t stop her from trying to see him. Everyone meets and Lelouch’s secrecy is compromised.

  35. I kinda like this series, although it *is* extremely Gundam-esque, with the whole peace talk, the dynamics between the characters, their design and the environment/world design. A bit of Tsubasa as well (well, it *is* Clamp) : Suzaku IS Shaolan, until proven otherwise.

The scenario seems interesting so far, even though some parts are so badly copied from Gundam that it makes them boring. Euphemia being a princess… And having long pink hair with bangs on one side… Come. On. Couldn’t the writers find something slightly more original? I think 25 years of GW gave us our share of nice peace-loving fair princesses… (I wonder if Releena falls in this category since she was a mean and pouting peace-loving princess… o_o)

CC’s character seems like something new and interesting though. Like everybody else, or so it seems, I love her attitude and the way she brushes Lelouch off. I think that’s exactly what he needs, given his abnormal ego and “I’m so manipulating you all” kind of attitude.

On a side note, I’m French, and “Lelouch” happens to be the name of a French movie director. And, god… I simply cannot get used to this name used like this. It’s sort of okay to hear it in Japanese, but whenever I see it written somewhere, I cringe because the mental image totally breaks the mood. Japanese love to re-use French words, but sometimes, it just sounds so ridiculous to us… X3

  36. Shirley is turning into a stalker.
    Bad habbit!!!!

I love Kallen she doesn’t has to end up with Lulu.
