Spring season is just around the corner, and there are a lot of new shows starting up. Before we get started, a few notes. As usual, I’ll watch the first episode of most shows within certain parameters (in other words, not the kiddie shows), and what I list here are the chances of me actually blogging something based on my initial impression from promotional material. However, even if I list the chances for a show as good or guaranteed, that doesn’t necessarily mean I’ll stick with it for more than a few episodes. As it stands, Tuesdays and Sundays have a ton of promising shows, but I have to ultimately make a decision on what to and not to follow.

By no means does this list reflect all of the anime that are going to be aired, though I did try to be as comprehensive as I could. Check out MOON PHASE for an entire listing, syoboi’s calendar for specific air-times, and AndrewLB’s Spring 2007 Wiki for who’s tentatively subbing what.

Technical Note: All times are given in a 24-hour, relative-day format where times are extended to show which day they belong to. For instance, Friday morning at 1:30AM would become Thursday at 25:30 to show that the episode aired late Thursday night.

This show is centered around a girl who has problems speaking when she’s nervous, yet somehow ends up in the drama club. I’m mainly interested in this because there’s a promotion video on the official site that didn’t look too bad and because Kawasumi Ayako is voicing the main character’s friend.

GAINAX’s newest series is about a boy who lives underground and finds a robot that looks like a head. The mecha designs are thus pretty interesting looking, but the real draws here are the GAINAX staff (featuring director Imaishi Hiroyuki) and what looks to be, from the promotional material, plenty of high-octane action. My only concern is that this is airing on a Sunday morning, so it might be oriented towards a much younger audience.

Kugimiya Rie is back in another one of those bratty girl roles she plays best. She of course voices Nagi in the upcoming animation of Hayate no Gotoku!, better known as Hayate the Combat Butler, which is about a boy named Hayate who becomes a butler because of a debt and the subsequent adventures he gets himself into. You may remember that I talked about this show a couple of months ago. I’m really excited to see how they adapt the manga (how many anime/manga references they keep in) and to hear the opening song by KOTOKO.

Despite its fairly uninspired first season back in 2004, Nanoha came back with a bang a year later with Nanoha A’s, where an expanded cast allowed it to create an intriguing new Magical Girl franchise of team battles powered by German-speaking cartridge-boosted weapons and superior transformations. The result was an enormous (and slightly scary) following among anime viewers, and in response director Kusakawa Keizou now gives us a third season. During 26 episodes we’ll rejoin Nanoha and Fate, but 10 years have passed since their introduction. As full-fledged members of the Time-Space Administration Bureau, they supervise a new set of young ladies, voiced by Saitou Chiwa, Nakahara Mai, Inoue Marina and Takahashi Mikako (who returns in a new female part). XEBEC and the Fafner staff are back for a new space mecha show that seems to be steeped in Greek mythology. It’s about a princess Deianira who starts on a journey because humanity is being threatened, and she meets a boy named Age. I mention Greek mythology because Deianira was a wife of Hercules, and the official website lists 12 Labors, which would appear to be a reference to Hercules’ Twelve Labors. I still get a bad feeling whenever I see a show with Hirai Hisashi’s character designs, but I may just give this one a try.

I was quite taken aback by how serious and cool the official website looks given that the manga for this is relatively a light-hearted romance comedy (Edit: wouldn’t you know it, right after I finish writing this, they go and change the website). This story is about a boy who gets saved by a mermaid and then has to marry her or else face death at the hands of her yakuza father. Momoi Haruka voices San, and she also sings the opening song (along with Nogawa Sakura) – I’m mentioning that mainly because I haven’t heard her sing an anime OP or ED for a long time (no, Lovely Idol doesn’t count).

This is an animation of a h-game that’s also being released the same month about a main character who’s lost his memory. Perhaps more interesting is the fact that this was supposed to be a sequel of sorts to the Moonlight Lady hentai series, though they dropped the “Moonlight Lady II” part from the title. Also of note is how this is being animated by Studio DEEN and the Yami to Boushi to Hon no Tabibito staff.

From the people who brought you Noir and Madlax comes a third series about girls with guns. El Cazador is about a bounty hunter protecting a young girl suspected of murder from other bounty hunters. If there’s one show I really want to see this upcoming season, it’s Idolmaster XENOGLOSSIA. For those of you who may not know, The Idolm@ster is a popular game about raising a pop idol. What XENOGLOSSIA does it is that it takes those characters and makes them mecha pilots – the mecha are known as iDOLs and their pilots are Idolmasters. Add to that the fact that Sunrise’s Mai-HiME/Otome team is working on this, and I think you have a fairly good recipe for success. And that’s not even counting the fact that there’s tons of top voice talent including Horie Yui, Tamura Yukari, Koshimizu Ami, Nakahara Mai, Noto Mamiko, and Yukana attached to this project.
Edit: The first episode ended up being slightly disappointing, but I still look forward to seeing how this show develops.

Kiss Dum is a show about a pilot in a defense organization created to protect against hostile aliens. There were rumors earlier about big problems on the production staff, but things seem to have been straightened out, and there was even a trailer shown at the Tokyo International Animation Fair. The renowned Kawamori Shouji of Macross fame (among other things) is doing the mecha designs here, which is probably why they resemble aircraft. It feels like there are a lot of mecha-related shows this season and they all seem to have their merits, so I won’t be sure whether I’ll be picking this one up until I see the first episode.

Claymores are a group of female warriors named after their weapons who are half human and half demon, and they protect humanity against the full demons. From what I’ve read and seen, I get the feeling that this will be a fairly violent and bloody show (not that there’s anything wrong with that). Other things to note are that Madhouse is doing the animation for this and that veteran seiyuu Kuwashima Houko is voicing the main character Clare.

Despite Ayakashi Ayashi having soured me on anime set during the Tenpou Era, Oh!-EDO Rocket has a fairly interesting premise. You may recall me talking about this show several months ago, but if you don’t, here’s a recap: Gonzo has given the classic Romeo and Juliet story an update so that although the series still retains its medieval feel, it now takes place in an aerial city. Romeo’s father is a dictator, Juliet disguises herself to fight against him, and that’s how this star-crossed lovers story supposedly develops. This is a show taking place in a time when countries are building mecha to fight to establish a new world order, and Japan’s mecha is piloted by a young boy and girl. But…before you write this off as another mecha show, I think it’s important to note that there are fourteen legendary mecha designers working on this show. It’ll take too long to list them all and their past works, but it suffices to say that they are veterans of Gundam, Macross, Evangelion, and much much more. The director, original creator, and original character designer all also worked together in the past on Kiddy Grade, so that’s something else noteworthy. If the first episode showcases some good mecha action, I can definitely see myself watching this.

I believe the title sola is their way of romanizing the japanese word for sky, sora. The blue dragon of the title is the main character’s Shadow (aka. the monster he controls), and the story is about three friends fighting against the guy who attacked their town. Blue Dragon is actually based on an Xbox 360 game designed by three video game and anime legends: Sakaguchi Hironobu, Toriyama Akira, and Uematsu Nobuo. Still, it should be noted that the anime is an adaptation of the game, so those three might not have any direct involvement with it. I do wish, though, that they had kept the original game cast which included Kawasumi Ayako, Inoue Marina, and Wakamoto Norio. As it stands, this strikes me more as a show made to sell Xbox 360s and merchandise than anything else. Lucky Star is a 24-episode Kyoto Animation work for spring and summer seasons to be directed by Suzumiya Haruhi director Yamamoto Hiroshi. It’s based on a humorous 4-koma, but I would assume that the episodes will have a story of some sort, much like Azumanga Daioh. Lucky Star centers around an athletic but lazy girl named Konata who loves anime and games – she’ll be voiced by Hirano Aya. If we want to draw some more Suzumiya Haruhi parallels, I find it ironic – perhaps intentional on KyoAni’s part – that Chihara Minori is voicing the quiet girl who doesn’t show emotions. In any case, I’m looking forward to a great comedy series by Kyoto Animation since I have a lot of confidence that they’ll do an amazing job with whatever they animate.

Gonzo is also working on a show I’ve had my eye on quite a while now called Kaze no Stigma. Almost everyone who sees the red-haired girl above immediately thinks Shana (myself included), but from what I’ve seen, the story is quite different. It involves a boy who didn’t have talent for the fire arts and lost to the red-haired heroine. As a result, she gained the family’s sword and the boy was banished. The boy returns four years later as a master of the wind arts, but he becomes suspected of murder. I wish there were more promotional material, but magazine spreads like this don’t hurt.

As the name suggests, Princess Resurrection is about a princess with the power to resurrect and the boy who gets involved with her and has to fight against the monsters that come after her. I’ll be really honest here: the actual show doesn’t interest me as much as Kawasumi Ayako voicing the princess does, though I don’t know if I’ll watch this just because of her.

Based on a 1970s manga that was later expanded upon by a different author, this is a dark story about a masked anti-hero who fights evil with his mutant powers. BONES is animating what looks to be a show with plenty of action and violence, and popular band TOKIO is singing the opening. I suspect that because it’s release is so late into the month and because I’m not particularly interested, I probably won’t watch it.
Odds I’ll Blog This: Poor

I apologize for getting this list out so late. As you may be able to tell from the amendments I made to some of the earlier entries, I’ve been working on this write-up for a while now. It took me a lot longer than I thought it would to write – I spent roughly 25 hours on researching and compiling the 37 shows that you see above. And that’s not including the kids shows, Saiunkoku Monogatari, and Emma. I made a decision to omit those latter two because they were second series of shows that I hadn’t seen the first series of. The only reason I included Nanoha StrikerS is because my friend convinced me to let him write it up. I also omitted Denno Coil because it’s coming so late into the season in mid-May, though that doesn’t mean I won’t give it a look when the time comes. And even without those, I will probably still have too much on my plate because of the vast field of potentially good series.

Like last season, I’ve uploaded a torrent with the promotional videos and commercials of many of the shows I’ve just talked about. Included in the pack (24 files total) are: Bokurano, Darker than BLACK, El Cazador, Gurren Lagann, Hayate no Gotoku, Heroic Age, Idolmaster XENOGLOSSIA, Jeeg, Ookiku Furikabutte, RomeoXJuliet, Sisters of Wellber, sola, Terra e, and THE SKULL MAN.
Torrent Link.

The important question is of course, what are you going to be watching?
As always, Comments, Questions, and Suggestions are welcome.

  2. Wow awesome spring list OMNI. I was waiting for it to come out :D.
Foe me i’m gunna go for Lucky star, Kamichama Karin, RomeoXjuliet, Hayate no Gotoku, Kaze no stigma, MGLN Striker S, That’s it really…. Including with the still-running death note and Bleach of course.

Sux that Geass will end so soon. Can’t wait till fall for it’s second season.

    Reason’s I’m watching the 6 series
Lucky Star- one word, KyoAni.. anyhting by Kyoani must be watched, can’t wait for Clannad 😀
Kamichama Karin- I’m a sucker for cute animation. i thought pita-ten (same artisit- Koge Donbo)was a pretty interesting story, aside from the cuteness, the plot twist were good.
RomeoXjuliet- Studying Romeo and Juliet in GR 10 ( in GR 9 right :D) Might as well learn it in something i enjoy right? LOL well that’s not the real reason XD.. I wanna watch it cause the RomeoXjuliet story have interested me for quite some times… But i just can’t bring myself to read it ( I don’ tlike reading LOL).. I know I’m so Lame XD
Hayate No gotoku- Aside from Comedy LUcky star, I want to watch the highly anticipated Hayate the butler. I read the manga after a whole bunch of forums were talking about it. I thought it was funny :D.. made me laugh… out loud… though people started staring at me in the bookstore >.

  3. Kaze No stigma- I can’t say that for sure i’m watching the series right now. It’s on the edge of watch or skip. It seems Shakugan no Shana-ish and the Shana story did interest me. meh… can’t decide
MGLN Stricker S- I think it’s just the fandom that’s making me wanna watch this show. I mean i never even watched the first or secon season… well i tried but i could never make it past episode 1. I’ll still watch it since so many people are gunna talk about it LOL

So Death note has around 15 episodes left to conclude the entire Nia and Mello arc as well. Geass is ending on this week ( well the TV will stop airing)
    Bleach will forever be ongoing
    Kyoshiro blah… Sora- Finished airing
    Shuffle! M- Finished airing
    Manabi straight- finished airing
    Busou Renkin-near finished
in other words i got no other reoccurring show to watch other than bleach +death note.

I guess everything’s pretty much finish…. NOW TO WAIT TIL APRIL 4 FOR MY SPRING SHOWS!
EDITuh Sprry about the triple double posting… somethign wrong with the stuff i typed up… GOMEN Ne

  4. Wow this season looks awesome. There is just to many shows that I want to watch, dont know when I will find the time to watch them all.

    Im really looking forward to

    Darker Than Black
    Lucky Star
    Romeo & Juliet
    Nanoha Strikers
    Hayate no Gotoku
El Cazador de la Bruja (Loved Noir and was midly amused by Madlax so this should be decent at least)
    Idolmaster Xenoglossia
Kaze no Stigma (Sound like Avatar to anyone else? I hate that show but this might be good.)
Wellber no Monogatari ~Sisters of Wellber~

And a few other I will try depending on how the reviews are.

But yah, Great season? Or Greatest Season?

    Fuhrer
  5. Oh wow I am definitely excited about the upcomming season. Hayate no Gotoku!, Idolmaster XENOGLOSSIA, Nagasarete Airantou, Darker than BLACK -Kuro no Keiyakusha-, and Lucky Star are at the top of my list. Of course I will also be checking out a lot of the others. Can’t wait!!!

  6. Nanoha StrykerS, Hayate, and Seto no Hanayome. My favorite upcomers oif this coming season, /and they’re all airing on the same day less than a week form now!/ There /IS/ a God! 😀

Then we get Darker than Black and Jeeg both 4 days later, followed by Kaze no Stigma 8 days later. W00T! 😀

    Shinji103
  7. I’ll probably give all the shows that you’ve given decent and above, a shot. The following shows are the ones i’m expecting to finish to the end:

Darker than Black – Cool title, i’m expecting a lot from that alone.
Kono Aozora ni Yakusoku wo – I’m a sucker for these type of shows. I need at least one show where i dont have to think.
Claymore – The manga is pretty good so far (volume 9) and the images i’ve seen of the anime look pretty slick.
Heroic Age – Fafner part deux?
Kiss Dum ~Engage~ Planet – Those plane designs look awesome. Macross had some of my most favourite mecha designs ever.

    Sorael
  8. This season looks amazing, thanks for the write-up! The one’s you’re likely to blog seem really awesome, and I’ve been looking forward to most of those. Shout out to Bokurano since it sounds sweet.

    ShinSenshi
  9. Saiunkoku was really pretty good as well, first season, kinda ARIA esque at times with random pauses in plot to have you stare at their awesome animation for 30 mintues with nothing going on, but that was cool too, since it was really well animated.

Have you seen Higurashi no Naku Koro ni? OMG. Second season for that was announced IIRC, not for the spring obviously, but definitely looking forward to that when it comes out later this year.

    ShinSenshi
  10. This season looks to be pretty good.
For sure I’ll be following Hayate no Gotoku, StrikerS, and Lucky Star.
Might be interested in checking out Kaze no Stigma, Darker than Black, and Idolmaster.

Then again, judging from history, I’ll probably end up watching a bit of each and every series before I settle with a finalized list. lol

    Kaito
  11. Darker Than Black
    Lucky Star
Hayate no Gotoku! AKA Hayate the Combat Butler
Koutetsu Sangokushi (Could be another Scryed*looks at the arm)
    Seto no Hanayome
    El Cazador de la Bruja
~Thats my list in what I will watch but I hope they are good to watch. We shall soon see.

  12. OK here are some of my recommendations for some of the show.

Nanoha Striker S – I suggest not blogging this. the 1st 2 seasons were just too over the top with the battles to the point that it was just ridiculous and the characters where poor at best. Fate most notably. And even though the girls are now 6 years older (yes you mis read their ages) i feel that this will just more of the same old same old. Oh and BTW the Wands speak English not German.

Hayate no Gotoku! – I’m looking forward to this one too.

Seto no Hanayome – I suggest blogging at least the 1st 5 episodes because this looking interesting to say the least. Nothing like being forced to marry a hot yakuza princess!

El Cazador de la Bruja – no. this is nothing but a Madlax rip-off

Idolmaster XENOGLOSSIA – ubber coolness. im glad you are going to blog this!

Oh!-EDO ROCKET – again i say no. the ONLY anime i ever liked with this kind of over the top animation was Abenobashi.

Saint Beast ~Kouin Jojishi Tenshi Tan~ – GOD KILL THE CREATOR OF THIS FUCKED UP IDEA!!!

Kono Aozora ni Yakusoku wo – i have played some of the h-game and like Shuffle it has a very good promise as an anime version. Blog it!

Wellber no Monogatari ~Sisters of Wellber~ – another Madlax type story but at least this one has alot more promise! Blog it!

Shinkyoku Soukai Polyphonica – GET REAL! no bloggie please.

Nagasarete Airantou – MUST BLOG!!!!!! MUST BLOG!!!!!! MUST BLOG!!!!!! MUST BLOG!!!!!! MUST BLOG!!!!!!

Kamichama Karin – there is alreadu ONE bad magic girl anime comming out, we REALLY don’t need another one.

sola – looks cool. I look forward to this one being blogged…. if you do.

Toward the Terra – simply no…

    Lucky Star – droll….. blog please…

Bokurano – Blogging this is a must.

Kaze no Stigma – no. seen the trailer and me not likey all that much.

Ookiku Furikabutte – HELL NO! when will the Japanese learn that these sports animes DO NOT WORK! and if any of you mention Prince of Tennis i will smack the poohpie out of you!

    Kaibutsu Oujo – must blog.

And those are just a few of my recomendations…. BTW what happened to Tsubasa Chronicals season 3!?

  13. I have complied a huge list after looking at various blogs, yours always and forever being the most informative, Omni-san. I will always be thankful of your wonderful work and dedication towards anime blogging. Thanks a bunch!~

Now for my list of top eight for this season…

HitoHira (March 28)-> the premise looks interesting…
Hayate the Combat Butler (April 1)-> too highly anticipated that I wanna see what it is
CLAYMORE (April 3)-> Kuwashima Houko is my all-time favourite seiyuu.
Nagasarete Airanou (April 4)-> same as Hayate explaination. And Mahoraba look-alike.
Romeo x Juliet (April 4)-> Romeo and Juliet reminds me of two years ago when i read it in gr9…
Kamichama Karin (April 6)-> Can’t go wrong with Koge Donbo
Saiunkoku Monogatari (April 7)-> This was such a good anime…you should watch it just for the love of political dramas. This anime made me think and reflect on the power of women. =P~
Bokurano (April 8)-> The plot intrigued me. But GONZO is a big problem…
Lucky Star (April 8)-> KyoAni. Nothing else. And I adored Azumanga-Daioh.

    areida
  14. I expected that Nagasarete Airantou to be animated, but Seto no Hanayome?? Anyway, it would seems there are a lot of shows to look forward to, but what intriged me is the anime Sola… such an interesting name…It’s also one of my cousin’s name!

    Karis
  15. Everything here I am interested in. *= I will watch

Hayate no Gotoku: I became addicted to the manga. I want to see this adaption.*

RomeoXJuliet: Character designs are alright. Want to know about the story.*

Devil May Cry: I like the story and action of the games (though playing the gameis another story) I will watch atleast one episode of this.

True Tears: I like the artwork. Based off a visual novel I know nothing about.

Nanoha StrikerS: Been trying to get into the Nanoha series. Will try to watch some of the other 2 series before watching this.*

Sola: manga with anime adaptions that are created in the same year of the manga’s distribution are usually alright.*

Lucky Stars: It’s Kyotoani which is fine. Read a bit of manga and loved it. *

Wellber no Monogatari ~Sisters of Wellber~

    Kaibutsu Oujo

    Kaze no Stigma

    Avisch
  16. -Seirei no Moribito(Guardian of the Sacred Spirit) *as a matrial arts instructor the fighting i saw was amazing!*
    -Blue Dragon
    -Darker than Black
    -Heroic Age
    -CLAYMORE

^ do those and i will personally pay for your sexual treatment in the future.

    also, could you do Reideen?

    Jay
  17. Wellber no Monogatari ~Sisters of Wellber~
    RomeoXJuliet
Darker than BLACK -Kuro no Keiyakusha-
    Koutetsu Sangokushi
    Kaze no Stigma

I’m actually ridiculously excited for RomeoXJuliet. I’ve always been a sucker for the tragic love story, and now that GONZO is doing it makes it ten times better.

    Darker than Black
    Kaze to Stigma
    Idolmatser XENOGLOSSIA (loved HiME)

  21. OMG! I can’t believe my eyes! I’ve read the manga version of a couple of animes that’s up there on that list! Damn……

    Here’s my list of to-watch:

    -Nagasarete Airantou *
    -RomeoXJuliet
    -Kishin Taisen Gigantic Formula
    -Kaze no Stigma
    -Kaibutsu Oujo
    -Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS
    -Seto no Hanayome *
    -Idolmaster XENOGLOSSIA
    -Claymore
    -Shinkyoku Soukai Polyphonica

    * means I’ve read the manga

I’ll recommend anyone who loves harem/love/comedy to watch Nagasarete Airantou. The manga version is pretty funny and there’s lots of colourful personalities to watch out for. Not to mention about the whole island of girls that’s going after the one and only guy.

    dward
  22. Lucky Star – Anything KyoAni touches turns gold.
Darker Than Black – replacing CG’s timeslot? BONES? I’m in.
Nanoha StrikerS – I should have stayed away… but Nanoha A’s was pretty impressive, so I’m in.
Hayate the Combat Butler – bandwagon effect.
RomeoXJuliet – How will GONZO handle this?

    pakxenon

    -Tsubasa Chronicle Season 3

Almost everything else is on my “considering” list

    Kit-Tsukasa
  24. kiryuu: read the grammar I used. Emma is just one of the things I didn’t include in the list. I never called it a kid’s show.

Jay: I have absolutely no interest in Reideen, plus it’s already several episodes in.

kdp: Rocket Girls started last month. I opted not to pick it up because I didn’t have time and because the first episode didn’t interest me enough.

Kit-Tsukasa: DMC doesn’t start until June.

  25. MUST WATCH LIST!
    ================
1, Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS : I’ve waited 6 months for this, they damn well better one up themselves! The characters are extremely likable Oh btw Hudson? Ignoring your personal opinion, Omni’s got it right that it IS 10 years after A’s… Please try again.

2, Hayate no Gotoku! : The manga was a riot! Alot of great characters and funny moments, a MUST watch. (Still sightly disappointed about Hayate’s VA ^^;)

3, Lucky Star : ‘Kyoto Animation’, I don’t care if I’m called narrow-minded, those two words are all the reason I need!

    MIGHT LIKE LIST
    ===============

4, Kaze no Stigma : The Shana reference is amusing, and people seem to think highly of it, so I’ll give it a try…

5, Seto no Hanayome : The art looks great, the story sound weird… But the art looks great!

6, Darker than BLACK : Like KnS, people seem to think highly of this as well…

7, Sola: The characters looks good, the story doesn’t sound like much, but we’ll see…

    Will try list
    =============
    Nagasarete Airantou
    Shining Tears X Wind
    Kamichama Karin
    RomeoXJuliet
    Shinkyoku Soukai Polyphonica
    Touka Gettan

    Chaos2Frozen
  26. I was originally only planning on watching Seirei no Moribito and Romeo x Juliet but… Darker Than BLACK’s Yoko Kanno + Abingdon Boys School + Wolf’s Rain production team = win. So we’ll see.

    N
  27. Wow~! Thanx Omni~!!!
Okay…I don’t know why but I’ve never been a fan of shoujo anime or any of the cute anime…yet it’s totally fine for manga…so I don’t know what wrong with me…-_-
So, lets see…I’m looking forward to:

Hayate no Gotoku! – It just seems interesting though it’s not the genre that I would prefer, it caught my interest~! xD
    Idolmaster XENOGLOSSIA – Well…Just a bit interested.
Kiss Dum -Engage Planet- – Well, another I’d just like to try watching…
Claymore – Another action, so more interest…
Wellber no Monogatari-Sisster of Wellber- – Like Omni, the video made me a bit excited to see how this will turn out.
Romeo X Juliet – Since I’ve always liked the orginal I just want to see how this will be.
Darker than Black-Kuro no Keiyakusho- – Well…like most, it again…like the others…it caught my interest.
Sola – Well, though it doesn’t seem REALLY interesting but I like the art…so, I want to give it a try.
    Kaze no Stigma – Um…yeah….lol

Now to my whining….UWAAA~!!! Why must Code Geass end….*sniff*….uwhahahaha…I hope Geass Season 2 air soons….xDD

    Kannie
  28. Oh man, I just got my hard drive clear again. Looks like I’m going to be having fun watching things again.

I have to say though, I’m interested in seeing what KyoAni can do with a simple minded 4Koma. And of course, I’ve been rooting for Hayate no Gotoku! since you mentioned it. Nanoha is on my for sure to watch list mainly because my friends are pretty big on it. But those are the only three series I’m extremely sure that will stay on my list of watching as of now. But I’ll probably hit everything as it comes out and start figuring out my own schedule from there.

    Likkun
  29. Highly Anticipating:
    Claymore (heard good things)
Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha Strikers (watched first two seasons, although honestly i’m hoping they make this better, cause the second season was bad IMO, they added all these characters and they hadn’t even given nanoha/fate much development)
Hayate the Combat Butler (again, heard good things)
Seto no Hanayome (read the first few chapters of the manga)

    Anticipating:
Kamichama Karin (heard of story, looks like it’ll be good, i luv magical girl)
Seirei no Moribito (trailer was awesome)
Lovely Complex (i like good romances)

    High Possiblity for ENJOYMENT!:
Shinkyoku Soukai Polyphonica (idea sounds good, but worried about animation)
Kaze no Stigma (story could be interesting)
Heroic Age (seems like a scifi/mecha/adventure series… *thumbs up*)

Will At Least Watch One Episode
    Sisters of Wellber
Darker than Black- Kuro no Keiyakusha (saw trailer, afraid it will be too actiony; didn’t like beebop which i hear it has some ties with)
    To Terra…
Bokurano (b/c every1 is looking forward to it)
Nagasarete Airantou (originally was under anticipating, until i heard it probably won’t have a story; i’ll watch an episode, if the fanservice + comedy is enough to keep me, then so be it)

Will Only Pickup if Popularity Ensues (or if lots of people say its good)
El Cazador (i didn’t get much on the story, trailer was alright)
Idolmaster Xenoglossia (i didn’t find it that appealing)
Romeo x Juliet (one i might pick-up later, but i’ve had enough of romeo x juliet, no matter how inventive they are :P, trailer was pretty good ill admit)
    Princess Resurrection
    Koutetsu Sangokushi
sola (kinda tired of harems… depends on how the story is)

    Probably not picking up:
Lucky Star (I might give it a chance some day, but honestly just saying its by Kyo doesn’t automatically make me wanna watch it [I like good animation, but animation isn’t a must]. Plus it didn’t seem like it had much of a story…)

I also haven’t seen anything about Tsubasa S3…

    iwubanime
  30. kaze no stigma is the 1 that should b blog cus it’s similar to shana

  32. Ones I’ll be watching out for sure…

    Nanoha StrikerS
    RomeoxJuliet
    Sola
    Kaze no Stigma
    Idolmaster
    Lucky Star
    Darker Than Black
    Claymore
    Devil May Cry

    But I’m going to give every show a chance as well. There was just too many to keep track of. -_-;

But you can be assured that I’m most likely to keep shows that star Horie Yui or Hirano Aya as VAs. :>

    Rasmiel
  33. Sisters of Wellber(+ liking that trailer song), Nanoha Striker S, & Kaze no Stigma has gotten my attention so far.

There are others like Kaibutsu Oujo, RomeoXJuliet, Hayate, BLACK ,& Kiss Dum -ENGAGE planet- that I’ll have to see first before I give my opinion on.

  34. My initial checkout list with options to add/drop as season progresses:
    ~sola~
    — romance with spooky ethereal overtones? The audio prologue CD got me hooked.

    Lucky*Star
    — 4-koma time with cute girls doing funny things with geekish overtones.
It’ll be interesting to see if KyoAni can do 4-koma adaptations.

Wellber no Monogatari ~Sisters of Wellber~
    — the princess gone underground and the thief …. looks promising.

    Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS
    — small girls with big weapons and, oddly, interesting characterizations.
Not terribly happy with them jumping so far forward but will give them a shot.

Darker than BLACK -Kuro no Keiyakusha-
    — Constantiine goes goth? Anyway, looks well designed and may serve as an
interesting flipside to balance the silliness and the comedy.

    Lovely Complex
    — looks like the classic romantic comedy stuff I’m a sucker for.
Tall girl and short guy who are buddies but things happen and…

    Seirei no Moribito
Fantasy epic stuff, very pretty art/animation, worth a look.

    Claymore
    — half demon girls with named swords battling hellspawn
    I’m sure it’ll be charming and relaxing 🙂 🙂 🙂

    Nagasarete Airantou
    — castaway boy on island of only girls … I’m sure it’ll be Shakespearean in scope
mindless fun except that I’m betting the boy has all the appeal of Gilligan.

There are others and that list may change as various people recommend things and I drop items that don’t pan out for me.

    vexx
  35. My list compiled of some of your Guaranteed with some other not in your list. I’ll follow your blog closely if you’re gonna blog these series, Omni-san
1.Darker than black => one of my most anticipated anime this season. Because I worship Kanno Yoko and Cowboy Bebop.
    2. Seirei no Moribito => been keeping an eye on this series ever since P.IG put up the trailer on the website. I’m a sucker for something historical or epic.
3.Bokurano => People have been praising the manga and after I watched the trailer I think I want to follow it.
    4. RomeoxJuliet => I’m impressed by the trailer, although Gonzo has a bad reputation for not keeping the consistence of the anime.I think they might pull it off this time because they had experiences of adapting a classics into anime (Gankutsuou)
    5. Kiss Dum => I like aircraft 😀
    6. Lovely Complex => I like the manga
Other titles that I want to watch this season (not in your list though)
    7. Dennou Coil => slice-of-life and I received lots of recommendation frommy friends
    8. Saiunkoku Monogatari season II => I love historical story and the detailed plot, and evrything else XD …
    9. Victorian Romance Emma season II => I loved the 1st season and I know how good the manga is; fortunately it’s ended so I can watch a true ending now.
I will watch at least 5 eps every title from 1 to 7 and they make a finalized list, I’ll definitely watch the last two. I may check out 1 or 2 eps of Claymore becuase the char design looks very apppealing to me.

    Fuuka
  36. This season’s packed with animes of different sorts. Last season was a bit boring, so I am really looking fwd to the new one. I’ll be following closely to these few:
    – Darker than Black: The trailer looks awesome, as expected from BONES. Plus, music by Kanno Yoko makes this show a must-watch.
    – Romeo X Juliet: Saw the trailer for it too, and I like it. Hopefully, it lives up to expectations.
    – Claymore: Images are pretty, and I think I will try a few eps to see how it goes
    – Bokurano: Looks intriguing
    – Seirei no Moribito: Pdtn IG, OP by L’arc~en~ciel, animation work is good.

    shojo
  37. 1.Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS(thanks to A’s i fall fully in love with this series n also want to fest my eyes on milf Fatechan)
2.Lucky Star(seen the 4-koma months before, the main character really left an impression to me for being different from most other females real or not…^^)
3.Claymore(well….nothing much to say, only that i hope it will have enough blood n gore to satify my blood lust)
4.Wellber no Monogatari ~Sisters of Wellber~(looks like a good show from the trailer, but have to see)
5.Kaibutsu Oujo(read the manga too, the feel isn’t bad, will be picking it)

all others might consider following after i seen 1 esp to deicide if they are worth my time)

    Chaos
  38. I’d expect Claymore to become very very big, the buzz of the next season. Not only that it’s the biggest-name shonen show (who always net tons of downloads), unlike most other examples of this genre, it actually has an excellent story carrying it. After a relatively straightforward introduction which I’d expect to last 4-5 eps, Claymore will turn into a very bitter and touching drama with a very interesting conspiracy background. Never before did a first impression after reading the first volume raw (ick! strange art and extremely gory!) to a major wow (after reading the scanlations till the end of volume 3). Next thing was getting everything Claymore I could lay my hands on.

Next things on my personal list will be Hayate, Xenoglossia, Darker than Black and whatever happens to get good reviews 😉

    Mentar
  39. Looks like everyone is looking forward to Hayate no Gotoku, Darker than Black and Lucky Star, and the same goes for me too.

Hayate no Gotoku – I like this manga so much that I buy Shonen Sunday every week just to follow it (and Detective Conan). One of my favourite comedy series.
Darker than Black – High expectations after watching the promo.
Lucky Star – KyoAni + Hirano Aya. Need more? Not to mention I enjoyed watching Azumanga Daiou.

Kono Aozora ni Yakusoku wo – Really worried about this show. I’ve played through the original game before, and the plot is very moving, so I can guarentee that the material they get to work with is top-class (after all, this game won 2nd place in the best H-game of 2006, just behind Fate Hollow, 3rd place Tsuyokiss). I just don’t know if they can pull it off to deliver the same tear-jerking story as in the game.

    Garet
  40. Don’t link this on Tokyo Toshokan as ‘Anime’ when you’ve provided no subs. The correct tag is ‘Raw’, and I can bet that most people who’ve downloaded your torrent will be expecting subtitles.

    tl;dr
  41. I’ll watch Kaze no Stigma just to see the comparison between Shana and how well it is produced. Also all the one you mark guaranteed, even I have to accept all those marked guaranteed looks impressive except Idolmaster XENOGLOSSIA cause the first episode kinna lack action and only more to character introduction but we’ll see in the second and third episode.

Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS too I will watch unless you don’t watch the 1st or 2nd season I don’t think you’ll know what’s going on but when I try the 2nd season it does pack up full of action while showing the character development so I think it won’t hurt to watch the first episode people will understand eventhough they miss the 1st and 2nd season. Yea and Kamichama Karin the same creator of DiGi Charat fill with cuteness.

    Jason-Sama
  42. Arr, my list… wrote why I’ll watch behind the show’s name
Shows that I will def. watch:
    – Hayate (liked the manga very much)
    – El Cazador (liked Noir and Madlax)
    – Touka Gekkan (dunno)
    – Kono Aozora… (looks nice and relaxing)
    – Polyphonica (played part of the game)
    – Romeo x Juliet (curious of how an anime version looks like)
    – Kamichama Karin (read the manga.. even though I despise Karin)
    – sola (looks nice somehow)
    – Shining Tears (dunno)
    – Lucky Star (KyoAni)
    – Kaze no Stigma (s.o recommended it to me)
Shows that I probably will watch:
    – Hitohira (Story sounds nice)
    – Nagasarete Airantou (hope that the anime will be better than the manga)
    – Darker Than Black (everyone seems to be quite enthusiastic about it)
    – Wellber no Monogatari (sounds nice?)
Shows that I will watch when nothing else to:
    – Seto no Hanayome (read the manga)
    – Idolmaster Xenoglossia (yeah.. why?)
    – Claymore (might turn out to be interesting)

    EG-Reverie
  43. Saiunkoku Monogatari season 2
-One of the best period dramas I’ve ever seen, with amazing characters.

    Skull Man
-I wish to see Kamen Rider’s predecessor. There’s also going to be a live-action one-shot for this, so I’m intrigued.

    k
  44. Kaze no Stigma – Interesting premise, the red-haired protagonist sure looks familiar…
Heroic Age – I’m a sucker for Greek mythology (thank you God of War 2…)
Claymore – Awesome character designs and animation + hot, violent women with swords? Yes please!
Wellber no Monogatari ~Sisters of Wellber~ – The set up looks interesting if only from a drama standpoint.
RomeoXJuliet – The trailer is simply amazing, and the story and animation look great. Political intrigue + romance = good.
Darker than BLACK – If it’s Bones, it’s definitely worth checking out.
Koutetsu Sangokushi – I find Chinese history and mythology fascinating (ie. I really liked Twelve Kingdoms), so this one’s definitely a go.
Seirei no Moribito – Has I.G. ever let me down? The fact that it seems to have a Chinese theme for its setting is a plus too.
Toward the Terra – The retro designs appeal to me for some reason. I haven’t watched a good space-based anime in a while (Soukou no Strain was ok, not great).
THE SKULL MAN – The Punisher vigilante theme seems promising; besides, it’s Bones.

    Kishin Taisen Gigantic Formula

    Ryuma
  45. Ok, so here’s what I may watch…

Romeo x Juliet : This one I will definately watch. I read the book just few months ago, and I really liked the story. I’m not so sure if I’ll enjoy this anime version as much, but I shall see. (I don’t like how they seemed to have changed Mercutio’s character into a villain of somekind…)
Darker Than Black: Good animation, good story and music by Yoko Kanno? Pfft, of course I’ll give it a try.
Sola: It seems to have nice animation quality, and the stor isn’t that bad either. So I guess I’ll give it a try.
Seirei no Moribito: The really good animation quality caught my eye, so I’ll try this one too.
Lucky Star: I really liked Azumanga Daioh and Suzumiya Haruhi, and I enjoy “slice of life” shows, so why not give it a try? I’m actually quite sure I will enjoy this series, if it stays out of ecchi and fanservice.

Yeah, I’m picky with the shows I watch 😛 Currently watching only Code Geass, which I started few days ago.

    HiMalaya
  46. Romeo x Juliet and Lovely Complex are the ones I am very excited about! but after reading your post, I will look into a few others like Sola, Touka Gettan, Seto Nanayome and Kamichama Karin! I am sure I will be reading your posts on other shows and screencaps you post! 🙂

    Lalita
  47. Too many “HELL KNOWS!!” this season. But I have picked some starters:

Saint Beast ~Kouin Jojishi Tenshi Tan~ (Because it includes Kenichi Suzumura, aka Garbage Seed Destiny’s Shinn Asuka.)
Nagasarete Airantou (Because it’s by Starchild. And I trust Starchild.)
Kishin Taisen Gigantic Formula (I haven’t found Mitsuo Fukuda or Chiaki Morosawa herein yet.)
    Koutetsu Sangokushi (Anything China FTW!)
Seirei no Moribito (Hot girls protecting shota FTW!)

    Lord Mashymer
  48. Ugh, there’s unfortunately not a lot out that list that interests me. Still, maybe that’s good, because the last time I had a long list of anime to watch, it piled up and I never found time to watch it all. Anyhow, here’s my list for this season:

THE SKULL MAN (just because of the Ghost Rider vibes it gives off)
Shining Tears X Wind (played the first game, liked it)
Hayate The Combat Butler (Kugimiya Rie! ^_^)

And I MIGHT look at Hitohira, sola, and Kaze no Stigma.

    Kid Kuwagata
  49. Looking forward to…

» Hayate the Combat Butler (Good seiyuus and the story is good to me.)
» Seto no Hanayome (Reading the manga of this series, I would have to suggest blogging at least the 1st 5 episodes because the plot changes from time to time. The characters can be very funny – Nogawa Sakura voicing Luna is one character.)
» Nagasarete Airantou ( Many good seiyuus is a good sign and it’s just a fun show to watch! =3)
» Lovley Complex (One of the few shoujos I liked, beside Ouran and Fruits Basket.)
» Lucky Star (Same comment with Hayate. =3)

    sento
  50. Hayate no Gotoku!- This just looks great. Mixing up this nice guy with the familiar voiced rich girl. Would’ve been interesting but of course to put it over the top they had to throw in all that crazy action. This should be a good one.

Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS – Well with all the talk about it I’ll have to check it out. And apparently find the previous seasons so I have a clue about what’s going on. But it seems like it’ll be good so should be worth it.

Seto no Hanayome – Don’t know just seems like it’ll be interesting. Will have to watch some episodes to find out though.

Idolmaster XENOGLOSSIA- Not sure what to think of it yet. Looks like it could be a good one but will have to wait for some episodes before I could give a good opinion.

Wellber no Monogatari ~Sisters of Wellber~ – Background looks good and I might as well check it out.

Shinkyoku Soukai Polyphonica – Spirits controlled with special music…just another show to check out.

Nagasarete Airantou – One guy on an island of girls….should be some fun chaos to follow.

RomeoXJuliet- Seems like it’ll be a good series. Not sure how well I’ll follow it since the ending of the play wasn’t that fun.

Darker than BLACK -Kuro no Keiyakusha- Good action it seems and some odd abilities from the characters. will take a look.

sola – From what people have said it seems to be one to watch.

Shining Tears X Wind – Played shining tears so I’ll take a look. Game to anime sometimes has issues but it can’t hurt to watch a few episodes.

Bokurano – Cool promo. Good music, interesting story idea, looks interesting

Kaze no Stigma – Red haired main character, and fire. That should be enough to make it worth looking into.

In the end it comes down to the fansubbers. Which ones they find interesting enough to follow should be the ones I’ll be watching. With some shows finishing up it seems like spring will more than bring in enough shows to make up for the loss.

  53. hmm i was wondering….isn’t tsubasa Chronicle season 3 and Zero no tsukaima S2 coming out too?..or did they get delayed?

but man im looking forward to these new series ^.^Y

    iRoar
  54. Tsubasa Chronicle season three WONT come out…as far as is know, CLAMP, the original creators of manga “Tsubasa ReserVOIR Chronicle” broke contract with BeeTrain animation studio, since they hated how BeeTrain handled Season2. As of Now CLAMP has confirmed that “anime” is finished, however, manga is only 3/4 done…It is unknown, however, as CLAMP never answered to the question on “will there be an OVA or new tv series based entirely on manga?”(without filers and the shit animators did to the end of season2)…

    AloneinVoid
  55. REALLLY????? ahhhh nooooooooooo…thats tragic….siigh…T.T..well i hope zero no Tsukaima s2 will still come out eventually…lol..as for now i’m lookign forewards to romeoX julet 😀 looks amazing

  59. well…
StrikerS is a no-contest in my mind… not very interested in guren lagann… I’d watch a couple eps of Koutetsushin Jeeg to see if it’s any good before discarding it…. um…
and I know NOTHING about the rest of those shows ye listed, so I can’t say anything about them.

    -Z-
  60. Gurren Lagann is my most anticipated from your list, my heart is actually Dennou Coil’s, due to it’s incredible animation line-up and me being a huge Imaishi fanboy. I don’t get why you dismiss as a kids show due to it’s time-slot as you’re already blogging Bleach and D.Gray-Man and I’m quite sure this won’t have such a silly direction-script as those two do.

Also will check out Seirei no Moribito, Darker than Black, KissDum, To Terra, Bokurano, RomeoXJuliet and Gigantic Formula. The rest look extremely uninspiring, generic and boring.

Also, which is the Gurren Lagann trailer in the torrent? It is a high-quality version if the first released which can only see on YouTube? If so, I must download.

    7Th
  61. I’m def. checking out Blue Dragon, Claymore, Darker than Black, Hayate no Gotoku!, and Seirei no Moribito. I’ll also give Romeo x Juliet, Ooedo Rocket, and Nagasarete Airantou a try.

    DaveJS
  62. Well, everyone has their likes and dislikes, I guess. The most anticipated anime for me in spring season is MGLN StrikerS. I watched the first 2 seasons many times that I lost count, and when I heard the third season, I was pretty worked up and have been waiting for it. The surprise, and a highly anticipated anime is Sola. Just by looking at one picture, I thought this anime will be very interesting. Also, Hayate no Gotoku! is a must, as I think it will be quite a comedy 😀 .

Others, I’ll probably look also, since the good ones will be ending these days, but these three are the ones that I’m really waiting for.

    Maximilian
  63. I didn’t have any shows I was looking forward to prior to reading your preview, but Lucky Star seems like something I’ll be interested in. Perhaps Hayate no Gotoku! as well. Thanks for compiling this list. ^^

    Neo Horizon
  64. I guess the only thing I will be watching is Emma. Ugh, everything else lack originality. Great, more H-game-turn-anime. RomeoxJuliet is going to ruin what’s left of my Shakespeare love.

    Alice Yang
  65. Bokurano being another Kitoh work is almost promised to be interesting. Perhaps this will make up for leaving us hanging in the Narutaru series.

This past season I didn’t keep up with much but it looks like there willl be a few things I’ll be into this spring.

    AngelMercury
  66. For Sure
    Hayate no Gotoku!
    Nagasarete Airantou
    Kamichama Karin
    sola
    Lucky Star

    Probably
    Seto no Hanayome
    Kono Aozora ni Yakusoku wo

    Only if I have time
    Hitohira
    Idolmaster XENOGLOSSIA
    Lovely Complex

If I like the first few eps
    Kishin Taisen Gigantic Formula
    Claymore
    Darker than BLACK
    Bokurano

What I find surprising (personally) is how much content there actually is out there — the sheer quantity of it all… how does one find the time to watch any of it? Particularly if one actually lived in Japan, for example… >.<

    cbhl
  67. 7th: Please don’t mistake what I said. I didn’t dismiss it as a kid’s show. If you read my final paragraph, I said “I also omitted Denno Coil because it’s coming so late into the season in mid-May, though that doesn’t mean I won’t give it a look when the time comes”

  68. Last year I had 7 shows each, for Spring and Fall, that I
wanted to watch; now it’s only 3.

Kaze no Stigma: The story is interesting, but it’s too bad there
is no more info about the show.

Wellber no Monogatari: The picture of the girl has me intrigued.

Claymore: The most anticipated show of Spring, IMO. This reminds me
a bit of Elfen Lied and Gunslinger Girl.

    DM
  69. Oh ok, my apologies, your sentences weren’t clear at first glance.
Anyway, I didn’t quite dismiss Gurren Lagaan as a kids show, but I am worried that it will be like one. My friend pointed out to me after I wrote that that Eureka Seven was also in a similar timeslot and that had plenty of violence and stuff, so maybe that worry is unfounded. *shrug* We’ll find out this weekend.

  70. That’s funny, I questioned myself about using the E7 card. 😛

Anyway, thanks for the torrent, I really wanted a decent quality non-YouTube trailer for Gurren Lagann and Romeo X Juliet. 😀

    7Th
  71. to AnnabelLee,
I think Devil May Cry anime will be out in late May. The show has a very interesting cast 🙂 (Morikawa Toshiyuki as Dante; Tanaka Atsuko as Trish; Orikasa Fumiko as Lady)

    Back to the topic:

I might consider Claymore… or others if the mood is there. School often occupies my time.

    jackie-lyn
  72. I would definitely want to see Hayate no Gotoku!, but I will check out the other ones if I hear more about them. Thanks for the info. Nice job on the site too. very informative.

  73. i’m looking forward to watch
-RomeoXJuliet (i like the promo and i like romeoxjuliet story)
-Heroic Age (i kinda like hisahi hirai art so wanna see this anime)
-Darker than BLACK -Kuro no Keiyakusha- (like it because of yoko ono and the re-placement of code geass)
-Lovely Complex (the manga was interesting and funny)
-Wellber no Monogatari ~Sisters of Wellber~ (wanna see the princess journey)
and Emma 2nd Season (already watch the first season this anime i like it very much that’s why i’m so looking forward the 2nd season)

Kono Aozora ni Yakusoku wo (More yuri, maybe?)
    Nagasarete Airantou (Love Hina clone!)
Darker than BLACK -Kuro no Keiyakusha- (If Yoko Kanno is making music then this anime is really great!)
    Kamichama Karin
Lucky Star( KyoAni’s new anime. Everything the studio touches becomes gold.)

El Cazador is pretty interesting. Ellis is so cute~! n_n

  77. will be watching these 3 animes: Wellber no Monogatari ~Sisters of Wellber~, Seirei no Moribito, Bokurano. I love their realistic feel and beautiful animes. and maybe RomeoxJuliet, though it has very good graphic and very beautiful anime, there’s no much talking.

and the reviews are very helpful. I really almost skipped the spring season since the animes from last few season were so dissapointing.

  79. I got done watching Kaze No Stigma.
Or at least to the 12th ep.
    It was awesome!!!
Best series I have watched in a long time.
Of course none can compair to
    Shingetsutan Tsukihime. lol.
But over all its interesting and stays that way
    unlike certain other animes.
Though fair warning Ayano is short tempered.
    I wouldn’t consider that a spoiler though.
Anyways, Awesome anime can not wait until
    they upload the 13th ^_^
