Picking up right where we left off in the previous episode, 15 focuses on Meimei’s story – where does she come from? Why is she so shy? Where’d she get that hawt dress?

Problem is, none of those questions were answered. Move along, nothing to see here…

Suzu and Ikuto, with carpenterial contributions from Rin, help set up Meimei’s new living accommodations. Personally, I would’ve rather seen her shack up with Suzu and Ikuto and add some much needed sexual tension in that household. And more nosebleed moments, which somehow seem to be the highlight of this show these days.

Thing is, Mei’s got a real problem with meeting new people – she’s super shy and would probably be a hikkikomori if it wasn’t for her status as “homeless,” which explains her penchant for putting on those full-body costumes or that ridiculous helmet. Sort of like that one astronaut submarine dude in Seto no Hanayome. Naturally, this episode is about her meeting all the regulars of the island. Let’s see what happens:

  • Rin: Jumps in a barrel and talks via crytic drawings
  • Yukino: Dons a bear costume (a real bear, not an Airantou bear) and scares the loli out of Yukino. Then shoodles all over her face.
  • Chikage: I was thinking there might be some cosplay competition with Chikage, but it just ends up with Chikage trying to nab the china dress.
  • Ayane: This one actually worked out ok – Ayane tells Mei the reason she’s so shy is because she doesn’t like herself, and some other sappy bull. Then the kappa shows up, and freaks the hell out of Ayane, cuz she had some childhood trauma where a kappa attacked her. The kappa dude gets all excited thinking there’s more of his kind on the island – nope, the kappa of Ayane’s past was just Machi.
  • The episode closes with Neko-sensei rounding up his feline troops – seems like the master of some other area of the island has invaded their territory!

    Thoughts

Well, if you’re still watching this show, you probably really like it anyways, so there’s really no productive reason for me to bash it. Therefore, I’ll focus on the positive points.

Meimei is treading that thin line between cute and annoying, but still manages to stay on the side of cute, probably because of her ruby red eyes and that amazing dress she flaunts around. I should point out that the front side of the skirt part is actually miniskirt length, whereas the rear retains the long, traditional length – a very cool and rather sexy design. Original, even. The nuances of her voice are pretty cute too, and I’m glad she didn’t stay in her timid mode forever – after all, the next episode is probably switching back to another girl, so in terms of “character development” (using that term very very loosely) we’ve got no time to waste!

It’s yet to be seen if she’s going to be entering herself in the Saito sweepstakes… and at this point in time, I’m not sure what her reason is going to be, other than him being that nice guy that always helps her out.

edit: Wait, did I just call him Saito? What the hell is this guy’s name anyways? Oh well, I’m not gonna correct myself – my point should be pretty obvious anyways.

    1. grunty,

If you haven’t noticed, I wrote another segment not too long ago. It’s called Looking Beyond. I have also posted part 2 of my BGM series.

I am taking a break this week because I am following E3. I have watched all 3 press conferences, which was quite interesting.

Stay tune next week as I will be working on part 3 of the BGM series and the upcoming rankings for July in the near future.
