Several things can be terrifying to an inexperienced teacher of elementary school kids. Syphilis, for example, is pretty terrifying. So is a grumpy grizzly bear. But then again, those are things that would faze anybody – but how about something almost exclusive to the realm of elementary school teachers?

SCHOOL TRIP

*cue dramatically depressing music*

For those of you who have been on school trips, especially at a younger age, you know that it’s a time where you’re allowed to be more yourself, rather than the image that a classroom may force you to maintain. Unfortunately for Aoki, this means he has to weather the wrath of Kokonoe Rin, a girl who isn’t exactly shy in the classroom. Yea, Aoki’s pretty terrified, and he has good reason to be – Rin’s practicing some advanced level moves at home with a partner (pseudopedobear) already!

So the episode follows the events of the day, from the preparation in the classroom to the disastrous train ride (this guy’s a molester!!), all the way through the events at the camp, until we reach nighttime. Well, good little kids should be in bed by 9, but these aren’t exactly little angels we’re dealing with here. Quite the contrary.

Aoki’s got his hands full minding the other kids in the class, and he hasn’t even seen Rin yet – well, that’s because she’s in his bed, rearing to go. Wait, go where? I wasn’t thinking anything ecchi at all.

Anyways, Boin-sensei tries to put the moves on Aoki, but being the dense moron that he is, he totally misses her signals. That, and he’s got a girl a third of Boin’s age in his bed. Things happen and don’t happen, and the camera cuts away with Rin talking dirty. Then the next shot has the sun rising. Whew, way to let our imaginations run there.

Everyone’s pretty flamed out from all the craziness of the night before, so they end up falling asleep (all over Aoki) under a tree. Cute.

School camping trip aka onsen episode – there wasn’t much onsen action, but plenty of the other stuff to keep the fans’ mouths watering and the critics’ trolls trolling. Down to earth (for this show, anyway) and fun episode!

Thoughts

This episode was more along the lines of what I thought a good Kodomo no Jikan episode would be – definitely a far cry from the events of last week, and I think much easier to enjoy. While its material like episode 6 that separates this show from the rest, it’s ones like ep 7 that keep people watching, keep us interested and entertained. And while it wasn’t anything unique from what we’ve seen in the past from similar offerings, it was well done enough such that it didn’t feel dry or retarded. Maybe it was because of the way that the trip was presented as simple fun rather than some epic event in their school lives, maybe it was because of the antics that they played which reminded me of my own school trips – either way, it hit a nerve in me and kept me interested. Maybe it did for you too.

That said, there were some pretty f**ked up scenes, like the one with Rin practicing on pseudopedobear, or when Aoki’s towel fell off in front of Mimi. Seriously, at this rate, Mimi is going to grow up to be a stripper or a porn star… or at the very least, a Hooters girl. Which might not be too bad – speaking of which, there needs to be an anime about Hooters… or whatever the Japanese have as an equivalent. I guess it would be maid cafes, eh? Anime has always been good at providing insight and sometimes glorifying a particular profession to the public, whether it be the mentality of a catcher in baseball (Furikabutte), an office lady (Hataraki Man), how to defy the laws of physics (Prince of Tennis), or how to turn beer into piss (2×2). But anyways, I digress. There was some pretty disturbing stuff in this ep, and what’s even more disturbing was that I didn’t find it disturbing at all. You realize if they showed this on American TV, anywhere, any time, there would be some biggggg freakin problems. You hear about all those horror stories about the dad who gets stared down at a playground by the moms, or the guy who refuses to help a lost, crying kid on the beach because he’s afraid of what the repercussions might be?

Course, that’s why we have anime, to bring all our fantasies to fruition in a safe, noninvasive manner. But I still think some of you are enjoying this show too much, for whatever reason!

  1. I think it’s already resolved to be as controversial as possible.
With that said, Aoki’s crazy. Think about your students, man. Rin, especially. You KNOW she’ll use this to your liking.

  2. Jaalin, You were fast this week. Thanks for your good work.
I haven’t seen this ep yet but I look forward to.
Screencap preview makes me hot for it.

    ‘That looks horribly wrong.’
Certainly that looks horribly, … horribly GOOD.

Aoki and Kuro in one bed (or futon) and…
No kicking? No hitting? No ball cracking? Strange…

Anyway, I’ll comment this ep once more when after I see it.

  3. You know, after the last ep I really felt like I could be justified in watching this show. As if the serious undertones would somehow rise above the fuzetsu sized pedo-service. Then came ep.8 and it seems i’m rendered speechless all over again.

At least the captions still rock!

I keep waiting for aoki to punch that teacher kitty.
    WHY WON’T HE DO IT!
::mutters something about stupid generic anime male leads::

  4. WOW! Normally I get the sub BEFORE you post. AND you captioned it! It looks like I’m not the only one who knows what the ‘title’ attribute is for 😉
And I’m only halfway through ep. 6
@Fake; You’re not the only one who’s seen (and found revolting) ‘Enjeru’. And compared to things like ‘Slow Step’,’Hanjuku Shoujo’,’A Secret Glance At Family Members’,’Sentimental 12′ and ‘Papa Nanka Daikirai’ (think KnJ but much more direct and hardcore) this is tame stuff.
I like it for the story and the comedy.
And yeah, ep. 6 made me cry too. But it was worth it

  5. This looks like it’s meant to be the field trip chapter from the Manga, but there’s some things here that just plan never happen. It looks like they go to some sort of cabin and there’s black magic and witchcraft going on. Also the scene with Aoki in the bed with Kagami never ever happened. I don’t understand that one at all. Maybe the anime has something else in mind that will make it diverge from the Manga.

  6. @Kaioshin Sama
they added that to the anime so they could do a whole episode from one chapter, in the manga it was just a one day trip and not staying overnight. so they added extra fanservice with the bath scene, Mimi having a glimpse of how an adult man is, cute moment between aoki and Kuro-chan, rin doing naughty things in aoki’s cabin, Kyouko trying to confess to aoki and failing misserably.

  8. @ItAintEazy and @ Rikuu

Thanks for the info on the raw releases…I do know another language other than English, but unfortunately it’s not Japanese XD!

Oh well, I’ll try to interpret what they say, or hope for a subbed release.

    Thanks again.

  9. “Loli is not pedo, its cute” Well this show is, as for other things they do not exist!

Anyway! Has anyone been keeping up with the manga? Its getting weird, Urgh, damn this anime and manga Im getting outside my comfort zone. Oh well its still funny! Can’t wait for the next chapter and the next episode.

  10. @Guy

Yeah, I did, unfortunately. I didn’t think the manga went overboard until chapter 29, then I had to quickly delete the entire volumes and bleach the system lest Chris Hansen makes his way on my doorsteps, lol.
