Summary:

In the past, Rolo had assassinated many powerful figures using his Geass power, and when he was given his current role, he had accepted Lelouch as his older brother. As he now holds a gun to Lelouch’s head, Rolo reveals that he was instructed to kill Lelouch if Lelouch’s memories returned or if Zero was resurrected. To Rolo’s surprise, Lelouch points out a nearby clock and observes that it doesn’t match the internal count he’s been keeping since Rolo appeared. He then activates a security camera recording from a moment ago and watches as Rolo froze him in place, confirming his suspicions that it’s not actually time that Rolo stops – it’s the victim’s sensation of time. With this in mind, Lelouch tries to convince Rolo that killing him means that Rolo won’t be able to accomplish his mission of capturing C.C. He offers to bring C.C. out tomorrow and promises that he won’t lie to Rolo. Meanwhile, at the Chinese Consulate-General, Kallen is talking with C.C. about what’s going on since she already suspects that Zero had used his Geass on Gaohai. Li Xingke then enters the room alone and tells the two that Gaohai is scheduled to die. Under threat by Li Xingke, C.C. agrees to let it look like Gaohai died fighting them.

Having bought some time with regard to Rolo, Lelouch goes with Rivalz to the police station get Rivalz’s motorcycle back. While he’s doing this, he thinks about Rolo’s loyalties and what he should do about Toudou and the others’ impending execution. He realizes that even if he killed Rolo, the Secret Intelligence Agency would know that his memory is back, and that would mean bad things for Nunnally. Thus, until he can save Nunnally, he has to continue pretending to be a student. As for now, Lelouch has to come up with a plan that both saves the Black Knights and gets rid of Rolo. During this time, Rolo returns to the secret base underneath the school and overhears the members of the Secret Intelligence Agency protesting with Villetta about how he killed another one of them. When he hears them say that they feel that they can’t have a team with someone who kills allies, Rolo walks away thinking that the mission is what’s important, not the team. Back outside the Chinese Consulate-General, Guilford is telling his men that it’s fine if Zero doesn’t show up on the following day. He believes that if this Zero can’t produce miracles, then he won’t win the people’s support, though for Cornelia’s sake, Guilford personally still wants Zero to appear.

Inside the Chinese Consulate-General, Li Xingke confronts Gaohai about having recognized the United States of Japan without confirming it with the Forbidden City. When he finds out that Gaohai cares more about Zero than their young Empress, Li Xingke executes Gaohai as a traitor. The following day, Guilford’s forces, the media, some Japanese onlookers, and the captured Black Knights all are waiting for Zero to arrive. Before things can get going, Lelouch dresses us as a Britannian soldier and pretends to have secret instructions for one of the Glaston Knights who is in a sniper position on a nearby rooftop. At the same time, Rolo knocks out one of the Britannian pilots, secretly boards the yellow Vincent, and pilots it out to where Guilford’s main force is waiting. He privately vows to kill Lelouch if Lelouch doesn’t fulfill his promise. When it comes time for the execution and Zero still hasn’t appeared, Guilford announces to all the Japanese onlookers that the Zero that they believed in is a fraud that ran away from this fair match. Before his men can execute the prisoners though, Zero suddenly appears on his Burai.

Since Guilford wants to duel in their Knightmares, Zero gets him to agree to a 1-on-1 fight where they each have only one weapon. Guilford chooses his Gloucester’s Lance, and to everyone’s surprise, Zero chooses the large shield of a nearby police Knightmare. Before they start fighting though, he questions Guilford about what he’d do if there were an evil that justice cannot prevail over. Zero presents two options – tainting one’s hands with evil in order to defeat evil or yielding to the evil – but Guilford’s response is that his justice is under Cornelia. Zero’s own answer is that he’d become evil to crush the greater evil, and him broadcasting this to everyone triggers the Geass effect on the man in the Britannian floor elevator control room. This man proceeds to release the locks on the floor elevator, causing the platform that Guilford’s forces are standing on to rise up on one end and thus creating a steep incline. As all the Britannian Knightmares are losing their footing, Lelouch orders Kallen to enter the battle, and she leads her forces to rescue the prisoners. He then uses the shield from earlier as a snowboard in order to ride the incline like a wave, and his Burai flies past all of the Britannian forces, including Guilford’s Gloucester.

While the Black Knights ground forces are freeing their allies, Kallen takes out one of the Glaston Knights and earns the ire of the others. Unfortunately for them, they can’t shoot her because they’re now on the Chinese Federation’s extraterritorial zone. The one person who is now doing something is Rolo who is now chasing after Lelouch’s Burai in the Vincent. Realizing that Lelouch lied to him, Rolo blows off the left side of the Burai, but before he can do anything else, the Glaston Knight from the rooftop sniper position fires down at them. The bullet is headed straight for the Vincent, and since Rolo can’t use his Geass on a physical object like this, it looks like he’s going to take a direct hit. To Rolo’s surprise, Lelouch pilots his Burai into the line of fire and lets the bullet knock off the right side of the Burai. When Rolo wonders why Lelouch saved him, Lelouch says that it’s because Rolo is his little brother, even if those memories were planted. He claims that the time they spent together wasn’t a lie, and all this has a profound emotional effect on Rolo, especially when he remembers how Lelouch gave him the locket as a birthday present. That is why, when Guilford throws his Gloucester’s lance like a javelin, Rolo has the Vincent catch it in order to protect Lelouch. This causes Guilford to accuse the Vincent’s pilot of being a friend of Zero’s, and that throws Rolo into a lot of internal turmoil over what he’s doing.

Rolo’s phone then rings with a call from Lelouch who is patching in a call from Villetta. She had been watching what was happening from the secret base underneath Ashford and had thought that Rolo and Lelouch were out at a theater. Lelouch of course lies to Villetta, and Rolo keeps silent because he knows that he can’t let the Secret Intelligence Agency find out about this. Knowing that Rolo is listening, Lelouch tells Villetta that he won’t get Rolo involved with anything dangerous any more, and he claims that Rolo isn’t suited for a world filled with murderers. As for the rest of the battle, Li Xingke gets the Britannian forces to withdraw from Chinese territory, and in the aftermath, Ougi and the others are reunited with Kallen. They then turn their attention to the Vincent that Kallen still calls an enemy unit, but C.C. disagrees with that assessment because it had protected Zero. Since Rolo is still conflicted over what to do, Lelouch tells him that he belongs here instead of with Britannia. What Rolo doesn’t know is that Lelouch had earlier used his Geass on the rooftop Glaston Knight to get him to fire at the Knightmare chasing Zero. Lelouch had given strict orders to destroy that other Knightmare if Zero escaped and to just standby if Zero didn’t. Having now gotten Rolo onto his side, Lelouch relishes the thought of using him and then throwing him away like a tattered rag.

That night, Suzaku arrives at Ashford Academy.

After having watched this, I still can’t believe how Lelouch pulled off freeing his allies, converting Rolo to his side (not quite just yet but pretty close), and giving Guilford fits. Much of it was a combination of genius, good timing, luck, and a little redux from the Black Rebellion (and perhaps a bit of Eureka Seven with the way Lelouch’s Burai rode that shield like a snowboard). I think the moral here is that you don’t ever want to go up against him or trust him to keep his word, especially when he has time to plan things out. What I really liked seeing though was Lelouch treating Rolo like he would Nunnally in order to manipulate him. I had pointed out to a friend earlier this week the key line in first series (episode three) where Lelouch had promised that he wouldn’t lie to Nunnally. So you can imagine how cool it was to see him use the exact same line to Rolo in this episode. Rolo’s mistake was to not just shoot Lelouch in the head when he had the chance and go after C.C. on his own in some other way. It’ll probably be a decision that’ll cost Rolo his life, assuming that Lelouch ultimately succeeds in getting his way.

Of the other things that happened in this episode, it was interesting to see that Villetta still might have feelings for Ougi since she looked visibly relieved (even happy) after he was freed. With the shot from the OP of them together in mind, I’ve been waiting to see some signs the revival of this subplot, and this is as good as any. The question now is how the two meet again – I would guess a chance encounter. I also liked how the episode ends rather emphatically with Suzaku’s reappearance. What I don’t get is how exactly he and Lelouch are able to be in the same room together without trying to kill each other. Do they agree not to fight in school for the sake of their friends or something? Looks like we’ll find out next week, as well as see some more Zino and Anya.

  1. I’m glad Rollo’s on Lelouch’s side (at least for now) He’s gonna need all the help he can get.

Don’t be fooled by that middle picture with Lelouch and Suzaku together. They’ve both got knives hidden up their sleeves.

  2. Damn, Lelouch is so bloody brilliant. Just as planned!! Screenshot 5 looks like Li Xingke has his own harem, of course without the two, dangerous, kick-ass girls glaring at him XD!!!! Just joking :p C.C is absolutely cute not knowing how to handle a gun despite being one of the most experienced characters in CG…but I still love her. lol.

    1. My feelings exactly. On a lesser note, Guilford always annoyed me with his stock devotion to his warrior princess and I loved seeing him spazz out. KILL ONE OF THESE LINGERING BRITANNIANS ALREADY I’M SICK OF SEEING SMALL-TIME MEMBERS OF THE ORDER DIE BEFORE GETTING FLESHED OUT
This show has too much of a fondness for Spinzaku.
Rollo’s perfecting the blend of spooky and sweet.
Sorry about the eunuch dying, I like his weird voice like Lloyd has

  3. Sweet.. but i cant shake of the feeling that R2 is starting to sound like heroes (the tv show) i mean now theres a memory manipulator, and a time stopper. hmm
    nvm.. suzaku next week oooOOooo

    hmm
  4. So, Rolo was not geassed by the emporer and is not Nunnally.
He was surprisingly easy for Lulu to manipulate though. He’s so totally messed up now that I feel sorry for him. But I guess it’s better than staying as an assassin who loves nobody and knows no teamwork.

Problem: Does Lulu really love him? If Lulu is faking all the love to Rolo, that’ll be just cruel (and I think Lulu knows that since he’s mad about everyone’s memories being manipulated; surely he understands how Rolo will feel) … somehow I feel this will lead to a problem either way, coz yeah, that “save his life” thing was undeniably fake…

I still predict that Rolo will die (and Suzaku will be the one who kills him).

Poor Rolo! (wants him as a younger brother)

Lulu’s tactics impressed me as usual.

Suzaku’s presence at the end (meaning he’ll show up in person next week) pissed me off as usual. Oh, I am SO SICK of his face!
    *HURRAH for the poll results!!!*

HURRAH for reunion of the Kuro no Kishidan!!

I just finished watching the raw and Lelouch cheesiest line this ep was ” Your place is here”… something like that.
Tamaki was very cute (in this episode).
More VilletaXOugi…( her reaction was I dunno kinda… cute)
Less Kallen *SOB*( i loved it when she said goodbye to one of Guilford’s men.)
    Woot skateboarding Knightmare…
    Evil Lulu.
Rollo looked like he just snapped when he heard CC say he saved Zero. Still plus points for saving Lelouch..
    Final Say:
    DIE SUZAKU.
    ps.
can’t wait for turn 5 and to see more of anya(?).
    pps.
    DIE SUZAKU…
Why did you have to make Lelouch life(which here means killing most of his siblings and most likely his father and getting surrounded by a little harem and conquering and world and GEASSING everyone and laughing like a maniac and still be very cute but not as hot as you ) so FRIGGIN’ difficult?
    ppps.
now that I’ve watched this I can pass my tests that instead of revising for I am watching geass raw 5 times. *gets shot*

  6. Finally, the Black Knights have someone with power. I was getting tired of Suzaku always running everything through brute force. It’s like having superman on the side of the evil empire. Frustrating as hell.

  7. yea, hopefully Lelouch treat Rolo as his brother. But the possibility is very slim consider Rolo is one of the people that totally change Nunally’s existence, like she was erase from the world. Lelouch’s animosity toward it? hard to say

    uhhh
  8. Why all the one sided hate for suzaku? There is no black and white in Code Geass. Only shades of grey. Neither suzaku nor lelouch can be considered as the typical ‘good guy’. Lelouch is a selfish cold hearted megalomaniac while suzaku is a hypocritical deluded fool.

  9. I must say, Lelouch is kind of evil this ep. OK, he is always evil, but this one really interrupts me. I hope Lelouch still loves Rollo as younger brother. Rollo doesn’t have anything left, you know.
I really hate to see Suzaku’s face again, but it will be interesting to see them in one room! Man, the excitement is getting thicker and thicker!

Next ep will be the school festival. CC will come and Lelouch doesn’t know bout that until he spots her. Some people say Kallen will come too. It will be a nice counter!
I hope there will be some romance between CC and Lelouch! ^^

  10. i kinda felt sorry for rollo when lulu said he would not lie to him then totally orchestrated the whole “taking a sniper bullet for you act” but the moral of that incident is rollo is no nunnally but there is still the possibility that lulu will start to naturally care about rollo. villeta looking on while ougi was being rescued and fidgeting and getting relieved when he was rescued was so cute and oh yeah 75% of the respondents hates suzaku’s guts enough that they want to see him die already

    Orphen
  11. I’m on the side that “Suzaku must die!” But given how this series is, I’m willing to bet that Lulu, Suzaku, and few other main characters are going to die (Not including Nunnally in this). CC will probably be around to talk about Lulu like at the end of the last season.

  12. Aww, I was really starting to like Rollo! He’s really adorable when he’s vulnerable…though he’s shocked face was kinda >.> Yeah, I’m betting Rollo will be in Lelouch’s illusion of being the good, caring older brother (coughFAKEcough) even though he has the Geass. He’s so manipulative >.<! Can’t wait for the next episode, C.C!!

    Skyfall
  13. I think that if Rollo turns his back on Lelouch at a very critical point somewhere further down the future… it will really turn the tables on Lelouch man. But that said, Lelouch is evilly brilliant. If he could direct Rollo to his ally and save the entire Black Knights troop, there’s really nothing else he can’t do.

It’s not a problem of good vs evil that makes people hate Suzaku but the path that led them to their actions. Suzaku fucked up his own childhood, he had caring people all around him (remember who taught Suzaku how to fight, and that man is still alive as of now!) and betrayed his father and country so soon already. Suzaku had no justifiable reason (making his father surrender to Britannia ? WTF) to kill his father and do what he did as a child. Lelouch, in comparison, had his childhood stolen by the Emperor. His mother got killed and all his own father had to say was like “so what ? get the fuck out already”, was stripped of his identity and pushed to live in a foreign country.

Suzaku betrayed his family for a twisted sense of morality. Lelouch never had a sense of morality to begin with, he just cared for the people he “loved” (mother, sister) and wanted to be able to protect and secure their existence. That is, Lelouch doesn’t justify his evil actions by pure morality but by sheer selfishness. (protecting your loved ones at such huge cost is, in itself, extremely selfish)

I hate hypocrites more than anything else. I wish to see Suzaku die in the most horrible possible way.

  16. This episode simply reinforced my confidence in Lelouch’s intellectual capabilities. Hence why he is my current favorite anime character of all time. There was quite a great deal of risks involved in his plan as well. A irregular factor(not being fast enough to block the bullet, interferences from other Frames; Rollo decides to turn his back on Lelouch; Guilford pulls out some dirty tricks, et etc) could have killed him. Oh well, everything worked out for the best.

Moments like this really warm up your heart just a bit:

The next episode will probably be comical. There will be more Rolo/Lelouch and Suzaku/Lelouch interactions to look forward to. But of course, the spotlight of the shown will definitely be taken by this couple:

Can’t wait for the sub! Oh, by the way, Rolo managed to elevate himself to the spot of my fifth favorite Code Geass character – that’s about 3 ranks higher than Suzaku, folks.

Agreed, agreed, and AGREED. And what really makes me hate Suzaku even more is that he hates Lelouch for something Lelouch highly regretted doing in the first place — killing Euphie. Remember how he cried to C.C. right after announcing United States of Japan? Lelouch, despite how “evil” he is, is someone that normal people like us can have a sense of attachment to. He lost his mother, his sister becomes crippled in the process, and what does his father do? He was about to agree to a peaceful end to his rebellion, and what happens? It’s like fate screwing with him every single time. While Suzaku, on the other hand, only pushes for impossible ideals and making stupid, evil choices in the process. Fate never screwed with him; he just likes screwing everyone else around him for his ideals, which are impossible to begin with.

  19. Yay!Half summary!
Umm.. didn’t Lulu also promise Rolo a new future? I think that’s important.
I wonder what CC and Kallen were talking about Aomori.

    @Rath
“Why all the one sided hate for suzaku? There is no black and white in Code Geass.”
Because evilness nor killing people isn’t a factor for hate.
The top reasons I hate Suzaku are
    – He betrayed his friend, like in TOTAL betrayal. I hate people who betray your best friends.
    – He thinks weak people should succumb to the strong, give in and live with it until the strong side changes from within (which is unlikely). And when opposition happens because people aren’t happy with it, he thinks the “weak side” are the wrong ones. So he sides with the strong, says he will change it from within but in fact does nothing except kill more of the weak side by following orders. I hate the fact that he kills for this reason, even though I know his intentions aren’t evil.
    – He keeps putting all the blame on Zero/Lulu, while never giving a damn about his friend’s feelings, keeps getting in the way of Lulu’s goals and that is freakin’ annoying!! The creators had to give him this super strength and the luck to be right there to interfere in the most annoying place/time too.
    – His face just pisses me off so bad.

Not reasons why I hate Suzaku:
    – He killed his father.
    – He wants revenge for Euphie.

And, no, SUZAKU MUST NOT DIE!!
ONLY WORSE THAN DEATH FOR SUZAKU!!!

  20. I gonna keep on watching Code Geass at the very end and I was surprise that the dub version of the first season is already out on cartoon network. Just watch the first episode and I wasn’t happy hearing Lulu’s voice in English.

  21. I was thinking Lulu was evil too in this episode, but come to think of it, Lulu could’ve let Rolo die from that bullet coming from behind or ordered that knight who’s Darlton’s son to kill Rolo and make it look like an accident. So it’s also a fact that Lulu let Rolo live, even though he also turned it into a “take a bullet to save his brother” situation to get him on his side/make use of him or whatever. It’s another point that shows Lulu does not kill if he can help it. (or is it because Rolo is useful? or both?)

I really, really, really hope Lulu will come to love Rolo like a real brother.
Not as much as Nunnally of’corse but just as a special brother.
But who knows if Lulu will hate Rolo for taking Nunnally’s place and take revenge by using him as a pawn till the end. It’s not Rolo’s fault but a delicate matter anyhow.

  22. That’s what I like about Lelouch… willing to admit he himself is evil. Ironically, by admitting to himself that he has became evil to fight evil, he is one above Light (of DN) and Suzaku, who till the end still admit that their action is justice.

  23. GAR! Is that what Lulu really said?
To use Rolo and throw him away like a tattered rag?
*sigh* T-T *secretly cries for 2 reasons*
    1. coz Lulu is too evil T_T
    2. coz my Jap skills aren’t good enough to understand that part (tattered rag)

Still hopes Lulu will have a change of heart

Instead of why people hate Suzaku, I want to hear why people love Lulu even though he’s so evil. (Or is it just me?)

    Yukiruchan
  24. Doesn’t anyone find it surprising that Rolo’s geass still hasn’t evolved into Permanent-Geass despite that he has been deploying its use since childhood? Lelouch’s geass leveled after only couple months of excessive usage.

    DukeTheGold
  25. Man, the Suzaku hate is tiring, as always. Is there any reason to address it in this episode? But to play along:

Lelouch fights for himself. He will use and harm everybody and anybody for his goals.

Suzaku fights for others. He will only use and harm people who are NOT innocent.

That is the simple summation of it.

    On hypocrisy:

The most blatant case of hypocrisy have been Lelouch’s mindset. There are multiple meanings from hypocrisy which have taken root from ὑπόκρισις, or false-action, but most have to do with judging others while taking the same path as the judged. Now, tell me, is Lelouch taking the same path as his father? Is he as he said, fighting evil with evil? Is the evil all that different?

What about Suzaku? Is he taking the same path as the terrorists he judges and Zero, or his father?

I understand that many of you find Lelouch’s cause stirring and what not, but please, try to find better terminology before you start criticizing characters on their non-existant attributes, okay?

    Percival
  26. I love Lelouch because he’s the practical guy who assumes plainly his cold identity without deluding himself with false justice. Suzaku *believes* he’s bringing down the hammer of justice by his actions, Lelouch doesn’t. He merely uses people as pawns in a chessboard, convincing them of his goodwill to serve his interests.

And yes, I am not against vile actions when they serve a clearly defined purpose. There is a saying in my country “You can’t make an omelet without breaking eggs”.

    z
  27. “Suzaku fights for others. He will only use and harm people who are NOT innocent. ”

That is so wrong on so many levels. First, he killed his own father, the righteous leader of Japan. Second, he’s also fighting in war in the name of Britannia and still thinks he’s doing the right thing. Third, Lelouch is not hypocrite because he realized long ago that he has become what he hated the most and agreed that he will be walking on the path of carnage.

    z
  28. I just don’t understand why? I mean if this was Death Note I could understand completely because torwards the end Light became a total douchebag, but comeon!! Granted I like Lelouch far more than Light but I still can’t pity someone of his selfish calibur who believes he’s doing the right thing because its for his sister but really would Nunnally really want Lelouch to do all of this just for her, would she really want the Britianians being killed in her name and what gives Lelouch the right to know what he thinks is good for her he seems to believe that what Suzaku said that his existence was a mistake he even says that without Nunnally his cause and life was for not and yet he gets so much support and I say why? Because he felt bad because he killed Euphie or he wiped Shirely’s memories are we suppose to feel bad and support his class because he dragged both them into his twisted world and took resposibility for it granted hewould sacrifice the amount of lives for his sister and yet Suzaku gets all the hate all because he did what gave Lelouch a taste of his own medicine not to mention Suzaku could of killed him if he had the chance but instead he made him forget everything about his previous life so he can live peacefully and not cause any more harm. Now I agree totally that there is no good or bad or black and white in this series, Lelouch is a selfish, manipulative sociopath who would risk everyones well being to get whay he wants and Suzaku is a naive hypocrite who believes the weak should never stand up against the strong and that the only thing that can be changed are within the system, but I just can feel for Lelouch like I can with Suzaku who seems to gain ALOT of hate nd death threats, although given this series fanbase and sunrise’s track record with popular characters I wouldn’t count Lelouch dying a horrible death. Can’t wait for Turn 7 though “hee, hee, hee”

  29. This isn’t really related, but I’ve only skimmed through season 1 and I was just wondering, what exactly is the Ragnorak that the Emperor mentions one or twice(???) Or have they not discussed that yet?

    Suzy Blue
  30. @ z
Suzaku’s father was ‘righteous’? If I remember correctly, he was planning on adopting a do-or-die strategy to deal with Britannia. In other words, he wanted to keep fighting no matter who in his country was killed in the process. A good leader is supposed to think of the people they govern, a very bad one is one that only thinks of ideals or pride and NOT human lives. So, I doubt Prime Minister Suzaku could be considered righteous – and being an African and watching my continent suffer under these real-life ‘righteous’ leaders, trust me, I know the sting of people who throw away innocent human lives for pride, selfishness, or personal ego.
Also, didn’t one of the Black Knights (was it Toudou?) in one of the earlier episodes mention that a lot of people were saved because the Prime Minister died and couldn’t go on with his strategy?
Suzaku is messed up – yes. But he was eleven when he killed his father. How many of us can claim that we were at our highest peak of mental development at 11 years old? That we didn’t do stupid things we still regret even OLDER than eleven years? Suzaku made a huge, painful mistake, just like Lelouch did with Euphie. I hold them both with the same regard, but I respect Lelouch much less – remember I’ve had political leaders who use people as pawns and only want to fulfill their own goals and justify themselves. And trust me, it hurts.

    Meraxes
  31. “Lelouch fights for himself. He will use and harm everybody and anybody for his goals.

Suzaku fights for others. He will only use and harm people who are NOT innocent.”

I totally disagree. Lelouch wants to create a world where his sister, a disabled person, can live without fear of being inferior. He is not a hypocrite; in all of his speechs and plans, he NEVER tries to create a world where some are superior to others. It’s always an equal world for all races including Britannians. Yes, he’s using the Japanese, but he’s giving them what they want, a free country where they don’t have to live in fear and oppression. Suzaku wants everyone to live on their knees and uses illogical morality to justify everything from inequality to invasions. So, it’s a choice between a man that uses evil means to create a beautiful world or a retard that’s defending slavery.

“not to mention Suzaku could of killed him if he had the chance but instead he made him forget everything about his previous life so he can live peacefully and not cause any more harm”

Right… Lelouch is living the dream life as bait for CC and who will be shot as soon as he overlives his usefulness. Suzaku is such a hero for defending Britannians that slaughter everyone in an entire tower simply because a few rebels are inside. Suzaku’s pro-slavery. He should die as soon as possible.

  32. “I know the sting of people who throw away innocent human lives for pride, selfishness, or personal ego.”

This isn’t real life where we don’t know the intentions of leaders. We know for a fact that Lelouch fights to create a better world for his sister. He genuinely wants to create a free country where people are equal.

“I’ve had political leaders who use people as pawns and only want to fulfill their own goals and justify themselves”

Exactly. Suzaku is a pawn! He’s defending a country where “superior” people can kill others without consequence. The military killed all the Japanese and Britannians in that tower simply because a few rebels got in. How is Britannia not like the evil nations that formed in your Africa?

  33. The thing is Suzaku and Lelouch want the same thing, but they have different means. To be fair, every armed rebellion/revolution in history has always been either the same OR WORSE than it was before, so maybe Suzaku’s method is simply slower, damn it’s only been a year FFS, ONLY A YEAR! Not much changes in a highly developed/complex society in year, give him a break. Not only that, he didn’t betray his best friend, his best friend had ceased to be his best friend, by something like being a national terrorist!

    SPINweel
  34. “The thing is Suzaku and Lelouch want the same thing, but they have different means.”

I disagree. Lelouch wants an equal society for his sister. He’s not a terrorist because he doesn’t use terror to get his way. He fights because there’s no other way for him to create his better country. He even agreed to join Euphie to create a better world right before he accidentally geassed her. Once Euphie died, he was back to square one and had to fight for his better country.

Suzaku just wants peace. He’s willing to support an empire that has massacred countless people, promotes serfdom, and won’t stop until it conquers the world. I don’t care what he claims to be, he’s defending the equivalent of Nazi Germany. He’s trading death for the suffering of everyone not born a noble.

    wait321
  35. “So, I doubt Prime Minister Suzaku could be considered righteous”

He was “righteous” in the legal sense. He was the recognized leader. Suzaku is always pretending to be on the side of the law and that’s why he want to change things from the inside and why he’s doing all sort of bad things for britannia. But when he killed his father he has done the worst crime, the worst against-the-law thing you could do, killing its leader.

“just like Lelouch did with Euphie”

That mistake happened not because of anything wrong in Lelouch mind but because of the ignorance of when and what would happen at the time his geass would turn permanent.

“remember I’ve had political leaders who use people as pawns and only want to fulfill their own goals and justify themselves. And trust me, it hurts.”

As other people here said, Suzaku is one of those pawns. The britannians hold no regards for their own, as shown in the first EP of Code Geass R2 when they killed all the britannians who could have witnessed the acts of Zero and the rebellion.
Lelouch doesn’t want to be just a pawn. He’s a mastermind, making use of pawns such as Suzaku.

“so maybe Suzaku’s method is simply slower, damn it’s only been a year FFS, ONLY A YEAR”

Did you get lost or what ? Code Geass is an anime. It is very unusual for an anime to present the life of a character from the beginning of adulthood until old farts. Time and the happenings in an anime world is like compressed, buddy. Most animes feature a lot of action that would have usually taken a lot more years to get accomplished on the same scale. That it has only been a year is a detail. Even if it had been hundrends of years btw Suzaku is not of royal blood and would never get the chance to lawfully change things from the inside without the help of someone like Euphie, who is now, dead.

  36. @ wait321
Yes, we do know that Lelouch wants to create a better world for his sister, but does that justify his actions? He wants to create a free country where people can live equally, yet he does it through using people and manipulation. See the paradox? And also, does he REALLY want to create a free world or does he just want to avenge his mother? I would say the latter, he just wants to reform the world because he assumes that with his father dead (most likely at his hands), he shall be in charge.
The Britannian government is evil. There’s a difference between the intentions of those people pulling the strings and those who are simply living their lives as they can (the citizens). Does having an evil government mean that the nation is full of evil nationalists? No. Even as you said, the military was the one that killed those in the Babel tower. All of us in real life have military corps that do some things that we consider stupid and even appalling. But isn’t Lelouch doing the same thing? What of all those that died when he collapsed the floors of the government building to get Cornelia, or those innocents that died in the landslide, including Shirley’s father? He even killed some of his own comrades, which, no matter how you look at it, is a very vile thing for a human to do.
You are asking how Britannia is different from the bad governments (don’t say ‘evil nations’, the general populace usually has no choice in what the government does) we have in Africa. In truth, it’s not much different. But neither is what Lelouch is doing. He is also manipulating and killing, and to borrow some of your words, he IS acting like a ‘superior’ person who is killing and using others without expecting the consequences to affect him.
The Brittanian government will get what’s coming to them. Suzaku will also have to own up to his past and present actions. But, so will Lelouch. And I think that Lelouch’s punishment will hurt much more because he believes he is being righteous and doing what his sister wants, when in truth he didn’t even ask her and is lying to her.

    Merxaes
  37. Not only that, he didn’t betray his best friend, his best friend had ceased to be his best friend, by something like being a national terrorist!

Yes! Thank you either Code Geass are watched only by fangirls who only watch to see Lelouch or all CG fans believe that the costs of many lives is needed in order to make one person’s life better. Now all we know is that Nunnally isn’t the reincarnation of Jesus or Buddha so why go through much trouble for something she didn’t ask for, even during season one when she talked to Euphie during the festival she even said that she would only be happy if she was by Lelouch’s side along with everyone else. Once again Lelouch is using her as a scapegoat to hide his true intentions.

    SuzakuForever
  38. “And I think that Lelouch’s punishment will hurt much more because he believes he is being righteous and doing what his sister wants, when in truth he didn’t even ask her and is lying to her.”

You are so wrong. Lelouch recognized long ago that he is not doing the “right” thing and you should watch season 1 again if you believe so. His real self (as opposed to his public, fake justice Zero side) is particularly showing in his private talks with C.C. He knows the things he has done are very, very bad and that his sister wouldn’t be proud of it. He’s selfishly protecting her, at all cost, doing it because of his own interest, not for her own.
At the end of EP25 season 1 Lelouch admitted to Karen that he had his own, personal motives for doing what he is doing and that japan would be liberated only as a side effect, not as his main goal.

    z
  39. @Merxaes
“he does it through using people and manipulation”

Lelouche never used any of his comrades as sacrificial pawns nor does he manipulated the Japaneses in being the OoTBK. They joined him because they believe he has the potential to change their world.

    uhhh
  40. Well the OoTBK were pawns from the get go since they’ve proven that they are helples without Zero’s/Lelouch’s brilliance even Kallen admitted that she is willing to be used by Lelouch for the sake of Japan. So to really say tha Lelouch’s manipulated them is overdoing it since they were pretty much willing to be manpulated even after Lelouch abandoned them in the episode 25 they came crawling back to him regardless in the begining of R2, so for Lelouch to use them as pawns from chess pieces into battle he’s no different from his father the emperor.

    SuzakuForever
  41. @Merxaes

I never said that Lelouch’s methods weren’t evil, he even admits it himself. The point is that his goal is not revenge or world conquest, otherwise he would have never agreed to join Euphie in her peaceful solution. He could have figured out his Mother’s killer without starting a revolution. He could have geass’ed his way right to the emperor and killed him if he thought that would get him a peaceful country.

Sure, Britannia’s civilians aren’t evil. Lelouch is not targeting them unlike the Britannians. He’s trying to overthrow their government. Yes war can bring about bad change, but they start because the people WANT change. Most wars end in bad governments but that’s only because the leaders don’t really want a good nation. Lelouch does.

As for his sister, Lelouch knows that she doesn’t want him to kill. The problem is that she’s too soft to survive in Britannia’s society that values survival of the strongest. Would you rather he stood by and watched his sister suffer when he has the power to prevent it?

    wait321
  42. @ uhhh
Yes, he did kill some of his comrades. Remember when he blew up the boat they were on? (Don’t remember the episode, though I think it’s near where we first met Kaguya and Toudou).

    @z
Mmm, you make a very good point, I agree he knows what he’s doing is bad (doesn’t that make it all worse though?). But he still thinks he’s doing most of what he’s doing for Nunnally. In ep 24/25 when he was going to the ‘Geass island’ (Kaminejima?) he was saying to himself that all he’s doing is for naught if he loses Nunally. The liberation of Japan is a side goal, that has been established in the series, but his motivation is still Nunally.
Anyways, I must run off. Thanks for the wonderful discussion everyone ^_^

  43. OOH has this turned into another question of morals episdoe on the one hand we have lelouch using Rollo (like trash omgoodness i cant beleieve he sed that… yes i can… i lied… im sorry) and the paradox he posed guilford sums up the overal debate of lelouches morals vs suzakus. WHAT would YOU DO!!!!!!! (thats should be randoms next poll :P) i wonder if lelouch will ever except rollo as a person or whether he will continue to use him to the end! i know it will be awesome so it matters not alsong as the follwing happens

    1.Suzaku dies
2.Suzaku faces either rollo or kallen (or both at once) in knightmares without flightpacks (i dont like the flight packs they look silly (lancelot colour scheme = RUINED!!!!!) (i rephrase Lancelot vs Vincent and/or Gurren MkII (although lancelot is better machine)
3.Lelouch gets a new Gawain like knightmare or some form of mobile fortress

Aside from the top 2 i have no storyline wishes because i have FAITH that it will be aweome
most of the people i know faced with afore mentioned paradox would fight with their own brand of evil becuase its somthing that you control

  44. Lelouch’s constant manipulation of everyone around him is getting annoying. I use to respect him for his revolutionary ideal’s, but more and more he’s turning into a bad guy.

I’m starting to like suzaku more. At least he understands that true change can only come from within.

I don’t think we know enough about suzaku yet to even assume he wants to change anything, for all we know he might be enjoying his affluent lifestyle as one of the emperor’s superpawns.

Still, I agree that lelouch is becoming slightly unlikeable.

  46. BIG QUERY: If rollos ablity can only stop the people and not the machine then why on lelouches screen did it show signal lost all the time surely the signal of the vincent being picked up wouldnt of changed just because peoples perception of time flickered on and off at random. “does he just want to avenge his mother?”
We clearly know that vegence is not his top priority. In ep.25. ” If Nunally is not here, why would I fight in this lonely war.” Nunally’s wish is far more important.

True, Lelouche kills Britainia Soldier because they are against him. He never once consider killing his own comrades for the succession of this plan.
The Government is bad doesnt mean the Britainians are evil. Note, Lelouch never thinking of killing the Britainians but the people that work for the Britainia and in Britainia’s army.

Like Lelouch said, destruction must first take place for creation to begin. Like I said, Japaneses are WILLING to follow him because he can make a different. In ep. 2 of season 2, URABE still willing to support Zero although he believe Zero consider him as a pawn. Why? because the Japaneses are also using Zero for Japan’s future.

Lelouche NEVER believe he is righteous. If you watch carefully, he always admit he himself is on the side of evil.
Suzaku is more like one that believe he is rightous. Why would he say Lelouch’s existence is an error? Why would he always say what the BK did is bad? Because he think his belief is the correct since he doesnt kill people.

    uhhh
  48. @Merxaes

The Japanese Federation was never his comrades. They simply fight with the Britainia’s force once together because they have the same goal.

Todou wanted to rescue his commander while Lelouche wanted to capture Cornelia. They helped each other out without once communicate or sign agreements.

  49. z:
“betrayed his father and country so soon already. Suzaku had no justifiable reason (making his father surrender to Britannia ? WTF) to kill his father and do what he did as a child.”

Yea, but he did it because his father had a do or die policy, his father didn’t care how many people died. Now this isn’t a reason to kill someone, but he was a kid AND he regrets his decision.

    m-san:
“Agreed, agreed, and AGREED. And what really makes me hate Suzaku even more is that he hates Lelouch for something Lelouch highly regretted doing in the first place — killing Euphie. ”
Yes, Suzaku hates Lelouch for killing Euphie, can you blame him? WE know that Lelouch regrets this, but Suzaku doesn’t, no one other than the viewers know what actually happened!

    Yukiruchan:
“- He betrayed his friend, like in TOTAL betrayal. I hate people who betray your best friends.
    – He keeps putting all the blame on Zero/Lulu, while never giving a damn about his friend’s feelings, keeps getting in the way of Lulu’s goals and that is freakin’ annoying!! The creators had to give him this super strength and the luck to be right there to interfere in the most annoying place/time too.”

People hate him because they think he betrayed Lelouch!!! Thats a dumb reason.
Think this way, for Suzaku POV- Euphie (a girl you like) had a good plan to give the Elevens a good life without any blood shed. She makes an agreement with Zero and meets him before the speech. After talking to him she comes out and kills all the Elevens. You later find out that Zero has the ability to force people to follow one command, ie He made Euphie kill the Elevens; Zero is actually Lelouch- Euphie’s brother, your best friend!
WE know the incident was a mistake, WE know Lulu truly regrets it, but does anyone else? To Suzaku, his best friend was willing kill his sister, kill Elevens in the process, and destroy a nice girl’s reputation, destroy a good plan to give the Eleven’s a chance to have a good life. To Suzaku, Lelouch betrayed him.
    (Wow this was long!)

    Agal
  50. From the Suzaku’s perspective:

    1. Lelouch drove mad/killed his girlfriend Euphie

If someone hurt your loved one, you’d hate him, even if it was an accident. Lelouch admits it was brought by the evil of his power.

    2. Lelouch made Euphie kill thousands of Japanese.

I saw a preview of the episode, where Euphie was shooting people. My first thought was – Lelouch made her do this, to trigger the uprising. What a bastard, that’s just too evil to allow.

Then I learned that it was an accident, so Lelouch returned to the comfortable grey zone of morality. Well Suzaku doesn’t know this is an accident. I wonder now why Kallen doesn’t put two and two together regarding Euphie.

    3. Lelouch lied to Suzaku. Why would Suzaku believe anything he says?

I actually find admirable that Suzaku gave to Emperor his “friend”. He could have succumbed to revenge and just shot Lelouch. Instead he chose to follow his beliefs and exchange him for position of power, from which he could attempt to change the British Empire.

I don’t find fault with Suzaku’s wishing for change from inside. His main mistake is to believe that change is possible without chaos. Suzaku rose through ranks only because of the Lelouch’s Rebellion. Without it he would still be nobody. I’d feel much more sympathetic to him, if he were to understand this fact.

  51. “To Suzaku, his best friend was willing kill his sister, kill Elevens in the process, and destroy a nice girl’s reputation, destroy a good plan to give the Eleven’s a chance to have a good life. To Suzaku, Lelouch betrayed him.”

I believe that VV had something to do with convincing Suzaku of this fact. It’s unfortunate that Lelouch never cleared this up.

Power corrupts and Lelouch is feeling its effects. His methods are getting more and more underhanded. If Suzaku joined him, then that could be a great counter-balance. He wouldn’t have think up evil plans if brute force Suzaku could just overpower everyone.

  59. Did anyone notice how China Ambassador went crazy? Looks like Zero gave him an order that alters general behavior/personality (judging from Ambassador’s mumbling, seems to be something about keeping Zero happy.). I think Zero’s Geass is suited only for specific instructions. If personality is altered (Obey all my commands, switch sides from Britannia etc.), it leads to madness.

  60. @Agal

“Yea, but he did it because his father had a do or die policy, his father didn’t care how many people died.”
By killing his father, Suzaku take away the Japanese’s ability to voice for themselve and didnt even give them a chance to counter. Britainia’s power is overwhelming, but the result is not always what it seems like the American Revolution.
I dont whether his father chose a do-or-die method, but I can see in episode one that everywhere Lelouche, Nunally and Suzaku walk, there are bodies of Japanese civilians.

“Yes, Suzaku hates Lelouch for killing Euphie, can you blame him? WE know that Lelouch regrets this, but Suzaku doesn’t, no one other than the viewers know what actually happenen”
True, Suzaku’s anger at Lelouch is inevitable. But to the point where he stated that Lelouch is an error of existence, well, is going kinda to far.

“Think this way, for Suzaku POV- Euphie (a girl you like) had a good plan to give the Elevens a good life without any blood shed. She makes an agreement with Zero and meets him before the speech. After talking to him she comes out and kills all the Elevens. You later find out that Zero has the ability to force people to follow one command, ie He made Euphie kill the Elevens; Zero is actually Lelouch- Euphie’s brother, your best friend!”
Technically, Euphie is the one created the whole problem. Her plan was far away from “good” and it can easily destroy all of Zero’s work (in Lelouch’s eye). If Zero goes against it, that means Zero isthe enemy of freedom and indepedent for Japaneses. If Zero accept it, that means the Britainia can easily destroy the Black Knight and reality will be the same since the Black Knights have to agree to longer have any weapon.

  61. wow…all i can say is that lelouch is a freakin genius…i had no idea what he was gonna do to get out of that situation..ultimately i though he would have to kill rolo, but turning him to his side? brilliant, pure genius. the writers for this show are amazing…how do they think this stuff up? anyway, i truly enjoyed every single minute of this ep and i am just as excited for next week as i always am for a new ep of code geass

Nice work; one of the things I like about Code Geass is that Lelouch uses his brain all the time to escape from the most impossible scenarios; he’s not an Ace nightmare pilot and will never be, but that can easily be solved with his intelligence.

No cliffhanger this time, just Suzaku coming back to Ashford.

  63. lol doesnt anyone find it especially crazy that suzaku killed his father over a mtatter of national policy!!!!!!!! especially now that we know the emperor has geass and/or the power to alters peoples memories en masse isnt it quite possible that suzaku and lelouch were both geassed or mind raped at an early age! its hugely possible that this is all just a gamee or war involving the Lettered ones (with the world caught in the middle) Either that or go bck to hating suzaku for among other things killing his father over a matter of policy.
Wouldnt be awesome though if question time (if your british) or the presidential debate ended with a random execution. “err im sorry george bush but i dont agree with your policy on iraq so im afraid u must die” or ” Mr Gordon Brown (im brittish lol) i honestly disagree with your ideas of removing the ten pence tax so im afraid to say it but your time on this earth has come to an end” , “B BUUT you re stil in primary school”, “Ohwell dad unlucky” ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!!?

Lulu is too much of an evil genius (getting too Kira-like). I like genii, but he is getting too evil for comfort.
Suzaku is too much of a straightlance to the point of becoming a dumbass.
Kallen, Rolo and the other guys = too manipulatable.
    *sigh*
This anime is not for the faint hearted.

  73. I just got a feeling that this episode animation is slightly different from the third episode if you compare Lelouch’s face in Turn 3 and Turn 4. I think Lelouch’s face is like the old one from the series. I like his new face in episode 3 better:

Tell me if you see the difference. Do you think that they had someone else draw this episode?

    Zero
  74. the main difference between lulu and suzaku isnt about morality in the first place but about intelligence and only from that comes the difference in their morality and actions.

first of all, they want to achieve the same thing, remember EP 5 of the first season, when they explain their reasoning to euphie and cc. the anime skips between the two scenes and theyre saying the very same thing? until the end that is. when asked how to achieve such a world suzaku says he doesnt know how to, while lulu states that someone has to win.
there it is, suzaku doesnt know how to achieve what he strifes for.
out of that comes the explanation for their actions. suzaku just says i dont know how to achieve what i want therefore ill do the right(whatever that might be) things which will lead to a better world. he thinking from the beginning.
lelouch on the other hand (thats said quite often) thinks about things from the end.
he just calculates, what will be the sacrifices in the creation process of that new world. then he can compare the endresults (world as it is now vs better world+sacrifices made for achieving it) and he comes to the conclusion that the 2. option is the better one.
suzaku isnt able to do those calculations, he doesnt even calculate the about the direct consequences of his actions, and the reason for that is simply because he lack lelouchs intelligence.

once again it is shown that stupidity will be mankinds downfall

    olb
  75. on a different matter.
anyone remember the scene in season one where the president quotes from an old japanese legend ( i thinks its an old legend not sure about that). it goes along something like this:
” we havent had the luck to be born in the same moment but we hope to die the same moment”
i always wondered if that was some kind of foreshadowing(btw. notice that suzaku really liked that phrase).

    olb
  76. one more thing.
about zero using the black knights as pawns ( or better chess pieces since the higher ups might be more like rooks, bishops or whatever).
    yes he does that.
BUT its not evil at all.
even sacrificing one of the chess pieces wouldnt be evil. as said before lelocuh has the intelligence to look at the things from the very end. if, in order to win while minimizing the losses, the plan requires a sacrife its still the logical as well as moraly right decision. it only becomes evil, if in order to win im willing to make sacrifices so big, that the “old world vs new world+sacrifices” swings to old world=better choice.

    olb
  77. olb: You must mean the one where the President quotes the Oath of the Peach Garden? Well, it’s just something from Romance of the Three Kingdoms (Basically the event where Liu Bei, Zhang Fei and Guan Yu swar brotherhood to each other and to fight in order to bring about peace in their country). Dunno if it actually foreshadows anything, but who knows…?

  78. “What I don’t get is how exactly he and Lelouch are able to be in the same room together without trying to kill each other”

Heh, well they did kick each other in Episode 1 of R1. LOL. XD;;; So this should be nothing, I suppose. I just want to know if that random!cat will bite Suzaku again. >:3

As for the whole Lulu manipulating Rolo thing… I, too, am incredibly worried that our precious Rolo will be killed. >:E Lulu better NOT kill that boy.

    lialiakicks
  79. Wow, the writers are genius! There’s so much parallel with the Season 1. Season 1 ep 4 was when Zero freed Suzaku from the Brittania – now he’s freeing the Black Knights. The end of the current episode also parallels Season 1 Ep 5, which is when Suzaku introduces himself in Ashford Gakuen…

    aussie
  80. I played Code Geass Lost Colors. Even though the story is a little different, I must say that all characters retain their personalities from the anime. Lelouch did not trust you. One instance, he almost used geass on you when you find out about their identities if it was not for Nunnally stopping her mad brother. I like the Britannia side better. Suzaku is a good comrade and he is extremely friendly and caring when it comes to your well being. At least in the game, I think I like Suzaku more than Lelouch. The Knight of Nine is a cool lady and I hope we will see her soon in the anime.
I noticed the animation for this episode is different from the first three episodes, maybe they got different artists to draw the characters in this episode. This episode is really good anyway.

    Zero
  81. Ah, so Li Xingke is also using the OotBK. That doesn’t bode well for any future plans with the OotBK unless both are using each other, obviously, of course. But the peace will only last for a while before Li Xingke will come up with his own brilliant plant. >.> Anyways, as soon as Suzaku showed up, I immediately closed the window, I didnt wanna see his hyprocite face. Hmph. I love Rollo when he was so small! CUTE! >.<!!

    Lucrecia
  82. …I’m getting tired of these Suzaku vs Lulu debates.
They’re repeats of what’s already been said and explained many times over previous episodes.
Coz the people who like Suzaku, like Suzaku himself, never listen to anybody and will never agree.

But this one, I have to argue.
    @Agal
“People hate him because they think he betrayed Lelouch!!! Thats a dumb reason.”
BUT THE TRUTH IS: Lelouch didn’t betray Suzaku and Suzaku totally betrayed Lulu.
I don’t consider lies as betrayal, to me betrayal is the ill intention to make another’s life really bad for your own benefit. Lulu never wished that for Suzaku, but yet Suzaku did it to him by selling Lulu to the one he hates the most for rank + taking his most beloved person away.
It’s also this big fact that Suzaku owes Lulu his life, more than a dozen times too.
That and the fact that they were best friends gives Suzaku no right to betray Lulu like he did EVEN IF Lulu did all that to Euphie on purpose. (And the truth is it was truly an accident.) I wouldn’t hate Suzaku all this much if he had killed Lulu instead of betraying him. Coz no matter what, betraying your best friend or someone who saves your life is lowest of the low.

“Think this way, for Suzaku POV – … To Suzaku, Lelouch betrayed him.”
I know perfectly what Suzaku’s POV is. To Suzaku, Lelouch betrayed Euphie. But my thoughts are: what are friends for if you don’t care for them; ask, listen and try to understand them; try to reason with them; and ultimately wish the best for them?? What kind of friend believes a kid you’ve never met before more than your friend? What kind of a friend denies your friend’s entire existence?!?
Do you think revenge for a shallow little love to someone you’ve met for only a short time, is enough reason to kill your best friend since childhood?
To Suzaku, Lelouch betrayed the world. What kind of a human being has the right to decide that??

Tell me again it’s a dumb reason.

    @WingZero zxt’s BIG QUERY
You’re right. The sensors should never have said “Lost Target”.
Unless Rolo presses a button that stops Vincent’s signal simultaneously when he uses the geass, for, well, the effect.
    Good point.

    Yukiruchan
  83. now i am wondering what the china empress looks like or she is the chinese loli girl in the OP? O.o and Li Xinke looks more like the royal type than the ambitious warlord one. So i guess he just wanted to restore the empress power but not for himself. And when will we see the anticipate “cat fight” =.=?

    mysterious
  84. @Yukiruchan
Your view on friendship is both beautifully romantic and naively unrealistic. Based on your statements concerning Suzaku’s POV, you clearly don’t understand his position. From Suzaku’s perspective, Lelouch, determined to attain his own goals which has very little to do with the liberation of Japan, geass’es Euphie to betray/slaughter the Japanese so that he can use it as an excuse to continue his rebellion. Lelouch, despite honestly being traumatized by his mistake, does nothing to convince Suzaku otherwise. People do not forgive others so easily, even their best friends.
I find it shocking that people only think of the betrayal of Euphie. Suzaku also believes that because Lelouch decided to “command” her to kill the Japanese, he is also simply using the Japanese people for his own personal gain (which I believe is completely true).
I don’t blindly support Suzaku. I realize that he has very serious flaws. When one’s perception of justice and peace is to kill your own father, you are seriously messed up. However, please people, remember that Lelouch is equally flawed but in different aspects.
Oh…and personally, my friendship with anyone ends when we both shoot to kill one another. Hence, Suzaku did not betray Lelouch.

    ChairmanMao
  85. I agree with Yukiruchan, but also at ChairmanMao, I’m going to have to disagree at your last part. Lelouch and Suzaku both have flaws when it comes to ‘justice.’ Lelouch thinks Britannia is at fault while Suzaku agrees but carries it on his way by joining and changing it inside. I really don’t like Suzaku not only does he also betray Lelouch, I don’t like his way of thinking of changing Britannia, honestly, he hasn’t even have a plan of action of changing Britannia yet. Yes, he joined the Knight of Rounds to get deeper connections, but even a year later, Britannia is even more cruel to the Japanese. >.> Yeah, they both betrayed each other, but Lelouch/Zero hasn’t turned in Suzaku to his own rebellion being a part of the Britannia army, instead negotiating him for him joining, saved him, stopped Kallen from killing him and in the end, it was Suzaku who turned him in.
So they both used each other for their own gain, but Suzaku to go so low to do that to Lelouch >.> Lelouch also to Euphie and the Japanese people but there has to be sacrifices (though I agree its the wrong way, what else other way?) In order for peace, there has to be sacrifices, no matter how horrible. Argh, this is getting tiring fighting for both sides. But I still agree Suzaku has to die >.>

In the next episode, I’m really excited because there’s another festival with the two new characters there, C.C and other havoc. What I’m looking forward to is Lelouch and Suzaku’s ”talk”. Who knows, the circumstances might change in later episode although they are doing scenes just like R1 but, meh. I really wanna see the funny moments to break the tension!! Hmm, now that the OotBK is back (though there might be disagreements inside with Toudo’s men and woman) I wonder how they’ll act with Zero back….

    Lucrecia
  86. Do not forget that Suzaku once cared for Lelouch deeply. Has you guys noticed in the 1st episode when Suzaku tried to shield Lelouch from harm thinking it was poison gas. He also want to change Britannia from within for Lelouch and Nunnally’s sake. He ignored order and did not shoot Lelouch in Stage 01 and he almost died!!! When he was persecuted, he asked Lloyd about Lelouch’s name in the missing list and glad that Lelouch did not die. Do not overlook these actions you guys. You should not judge a person based on their actions. At least Suzaku was a good guy from the beginning. NEVER forget that. He even rescue Nunally when Lelouch could not do a thing. The mistake that Suzaku made was choosing Euphemia, but it was understandable because Lelouch should had made clear his intention of wanting Suzaku to become Nunnally’s knight earlier. Plus Nunnally was really happy when Suzaku became Euphie’s knight so I think it was just Lelouch’s selfish wish. He imposed those great things on Nunnally and thought everything was for her happiness, but never considered her feelings. Poor Nunnally, suddenly become the reason her brother went mad. If Nunnally knew about it, what would she think? I am looking forward to her reaction when she knew about her brother had been going about killing people for her sake. If I understand her personality, she would rather kill her self than allowing Lelouch to hurt others.
I begin to hate Lelouch a little after he lied to Rolo. I thought badly about Rolo at first, but after understanding about his loneliness. I feel pity for him. He is similar to some other anime characters who does not know what is right and wrong, he just follow what others told him! If someone was to open his heart, then he would become much kinder. Unfortunately, he had fallen into Lelouch’s hand. Lelouch is a man of lies who would do anything to achieve his goal.

    Zero
  87. One more thing though, there is no right or wrong in people’s opinion and points of view. You guys need to considered ALL perspectives. Don’t go criticizing others for not agreeing with you. Everyone is different that is why we had many people sharing different opinions. Look at the polls. There are about 1000 vote for Lelouch’s death so you see that NOT everyone wished to kill Suzaku. There are always different opinions and you MUST RESPECT their points of view. People are from different background and nations and they do have have the same mind. AGREED?

    Zero
  88. I’m getting sick of this Lelouch VS. Suzaku debates……

Anyway, Lelouch is the anti-hero and Suzaku is the anti-villain…..so let them kill each other in the end and let’s see who’s right or wrong…..make it like Light VS. L or Mello or Near….

    maki
  89. Man can you guys the “suzaku must die” shut yer yappin? seriously i’m trying to enjoy some worthy comment, not some random flaming “suzaku must die”

and to be honest, suzaku make this series even more enjoyable, good guy type but actually an antagonist? lol

    joachim
  90. @maki
If you getting sick of the debate then don’t go look at the comment anymore. Why complain when you keep going back and look at them for?
    @joachim
I am not supporting the Suzaku must die because I think he is an interesting character. He acts just like a weak individual who does not have power to change the world in a radical way through rebellion so he does the latter: to gradually change the system. I think his ideals are great and he is not as selfish as Lelouch had demonstrated.

    Zero
  91. I think Yukiruchan and Lucrecia made it also CLEAR that they’re getting tired and ended it on that note (maki agrees). No need for other continous comments though it is to defend the other characters, there are forums for that… We’re focusing on this episode and Suzaku only appeared at the end.

Hmm, after watching the english subs, I have a bad feeling about Li Xingke. He’s really dedicated to his Chinese Empress, killed the Geass-ed eunuch and seems to be already making plans. How scary he’s mind works pretty fast just like Lelouch, I won’t even imagine his strengh when it comes to fighting given that he’s an Army General. *whistles* Lulu might have some competition especially that Li Xingke had more screentime with both C.C and Kallen at the same time XD!! I’m joking people, but it is pretty funny wondering at the screenshots…Oh Guildford totally got PWNED

    miko-chan
  92. we all know suzaku wan to change this from inside but suzaku betrayed lelouch as well u know since he personally submit him to his father who lelouch hates the most!

anywaY the suzaku debates on who is right and who is wrong
i personally feel both part is not wrong jsut that driven by different perspective
lelouch wanted to bring judgement onto his heartless father’s empire by becoming the devil who will destroy the devil himself while suzaku trying to change from inside by getting the elevens and britanians to live and respect each other together which is a harder job compare to wat lelouch is doing.

but wth without lelouch this show is just plain boring! lelouch is the mastermind on everything even yet he is the best in mind games! lelouch never fail to impress me in his strategy in turning the flow which is suppose to be against him into his own gain. i can’t stop praising lelouch. he just rocks to me! and this episode shows why he is the chosen person by c.c.

    jeffng9
  93. @ChairmanMao
Suzaku of all people should know that Lulu is doing everything because he truly cares for Japan. He knew Britania took everything away from Lulu and sent him to Japan on exile, he knew Lulu came to find another small happiness in Japan, that he loved Japan. But Britania destroyed it again. His rage at Britania after they both saw how Britania crushed Japan 7 years ago showed it all.

I’m tired of people who say Lulu is simply using the Japanese for his own personal gain. There are plenty of scenes where Lulu is seen unhappy with what the Japanese has become, I believe he wants to make life better for everyone, not only Nunnally.

“People do not forgive others so easily, even their best friends.”
Those words just show how little Suzaku loved others. Correctly, Lulu, Nana and Euphie were the only ones he had really loved. He didn’t even love Japan.

“Oh…and personally, my friendship with anyone ends when we both shoot to kill one another. Hence, Suzaku did not betray Lelouch.”
Suzaku pointed the pistol first. He denied Lulu’s existence first. He threatened to shoot Lulu first. Your friendship may end when Lulu pointed his gun to counter, but not for Suzaku. Coz after Suzaku pwned Lulu, he said “I won’t ask for forgiveness, we’re friends aren’t we?” Obviously, Suzaku betrayed Lelouch.

    Yukiruchan
  94. In Season 1 Zero was able to roam around and carry out his plans much easier. In Season 2, however, he’s kind of fighting those around him first. He has to keep an eye on his “allies” as well (especially Rollo – whose side is he going to be on? and maybe Li XINGKE – what plans does he have) I think it will unfold to be an interesting series with betrayals and surprises, especially with Suzaku in the mix

    Ichibanluckycat
  95. Ok.. I’ll stop.
My hatred for Suzaku is overwhelming everything again.
It’s been like this since Turn 1

I already spilled all my thoughts on Ep.4 here in earlier posts.
    I like Rolo!

    Time for predictions.
It looks like Lulu and Rolo’s school life will continue until the stage changes to the world. If that happens Lulu will win Japan’s freedom. I can’t wait!!

I’ve been seeing a few spoilers on Nunnally, that she’ll appear soon as the ______ of _____ .
I just hope it’s not true.

    Yukiruchan
  96. @SuzakuForever:

Regarding your question “Granted I like Lelouch far more than Light but I still can’t pity someone of his selfish calibur who believes he’s doing the right thing because its for his sister but really would Nunnally really want Lelouch to do all of this just for her, would she really want the Britianians being killed in her name”

YOU DAM RIGHT SHE DOES! NUNALLY HAS EVEN FAR FAR MORE HATRED TO BRITANNIA THAN LULU, AND I MEAN BY FAR!!! HAVE U READ KNIGHTMARE OF NUNALY? NUNALY FRIKIN PAWNS ALL! SHE CLEARLY ADMITS OF HER DEEP HATRED TO BRITANNIA, IF U THINK LULU HAS HATRED OF WAT HAPPENED TO HIM, THINK OF NUNALY WHO WAS DIRECTLY AFFECTED BY IT?

ONCE AGAIN, THE FANS KNOW THAT LULU IS EVIL, OF COURSE HE ISNT A DAM SAINT! HE ADMITS THIS EP. THAT HE IS EVIL! HE WILL BECOME EVIL, TO DEFEAT A GREATER EVIL! ALSO HIS FIRST LINE CLEARLY HITS SUZAKU HARD IN THE ASS, “SUPPOSE THERE IS AN EVIL THAT JUSTICE CANNOT BRING DOWN?” LULU REFERS TO THE EMPEROR OF BRITANNIA, NOW LETS THINK ABOUT SUZAKU’S FUKED UP JUSTIFICATION: “I WILL CHANGE THE WORLD FROM WITHIN” – OK THERE KNIGHT OF ROUNDS >.> EVEN A PRINCE LIKE LULU COULDNT EVEN DO IT, U THINK HE CAN? U THINK THE EMPEROR IS JUST GONNA SAY, YA GO AHEAD SUZAKU U CAN BECOME THE EMPEROR, FUK NO! SUZAKU CANNOT AND WILL NOT CHANGE BRITANNIA (AS IF HE CAN, THE EMPEROR IS FAR MORE POWERFUL AND FAR MORE EVIL), SUZAKU IS SIMPLY USING THIS MORAL TO HOLD ONTO HIS SANITY (REMEMBER WHAT MAO SAID TO HIM, WHEN MAO CONFRONTED SUZAKU? MAO READ IT HIMSELF DEEP IN SUZAKU’S MIND THAT HE IS MERELY TRYING TO JUSTIFY HIMSELF IN ORDER TO HOLD ONTO HIS EXISTANCE. THINK ABOUT IT, HOW CAN SUZAKU CHANGE THE WORLD FROM WITHIN, IF HE SIMPLY HELPS THE EMPEROR CONQUER MORE COUNTRIES/NATIONS AND TAKE OVER THE WHOLE WORLD. HE EVEN FRIKIN KNOWS THE EMPEROR HAS SOME HUGE ASS WEAPON, AND HE’S LIKE “WHATS THAT? A SHRINE?” WHAT A DUMBASS!

YA ABOUT UR COMMENT THAT SUZAKU EVEN SPARED LULU FROM GETTING KILLED JUST SO HIS MEMORIES ARE ERASED. IF U CANT REMEMBER WHAT SUZAKU SAID IN EP.1 “I WILL NOT GIVE ANYONE THAT RIGHT, I WILL PERSONALLY KILL ZERO.” WHATS UR JUSTIFICATION IN THAT? THAT SUZAKU SPARED LULU’S LIFE JUST TO KILL HIM AGAIN ONCE HIS PURPOSE IS DONE?

  97. Pretty good episode, still a bit confused about that long, black haired Chinese guy and whose side he’s really on (glad though he killed that freaky politician, his voice was really getting to me).

You also gotta hand it to the production team, all those reports of the people Rollo killed can actually be read and give some slight info on the world of Code Geass.

As for C.C, she can pilot a Knightmare but can’t assemble a handgun; gotta love her comedy.

    FX102
  98. @X
Regretfully, you are too one-sided. Knightmare of Nunnally is set in a different alternate story supposing Lelouch dies. She cares for her brother that’s for sure. But we are talking about the anime Lelouch of the Rebellion, Lelouch is still alive and well, so Nunnally has no reason to hate anyone. Remember she is too innocent and she even congratulate Suzaku when he becomes Euphemia’s knight unknowing that her brother intends for Suzaku to becomes HER knight. She is an individual who will rather stay out of the slaughter, she does not wish to hurt anyone despite of the pain she has gotten. I played Code Geass Lost Colors and I must admit that Nunnally becomes my favorite female character in Code Geass. She is just too cute, kind, and innocent so different from that brother of her.

    Zero
  99. For the people who started disliking Lulu or thinks that what he did to Rollo is really evil, did u guys consider the fact that Rollo in his present state is no different than what Lulu’s plans for him are? Either way, whatever side Rollo chooses, HE IS AND WILL BE USED, so the ultimate question is, which side would be better to side at lol?

Britannia who doesnt give a dam about him, much similar to Lulu. Or Choose Lulu who is just like Britannia using him, but at the VERY least (even though it is a lie) Lulu is treating him as a brother, as a family, where Rollo never had and a never will have in Britannia. So even though it was a lie, the saying “ignorance is bliss” applies greatly here to Rollo. Also someone made a comment about this saying that does Rollo not know that he is being used? IMO I think Rollo does, I mean he did hear Lulu say that he is gonna use him as a pawn to search for Nunally, i mean twice lol (both personally and in the recording). So I think that Rollo chose it despite knowing he’s gonna be used anyways.

So which side would be better? Britannia where all Rollo remembers is that his life is full of murder? or the short time he spent with a fake brother whom he was treated like a family for a full year? Which side do u guys think that Rollo would be better off?

Also can you really blame Zero/Lulu for hating Rollo so much? I mean Rollo was using Lulu as a bait to begin with, so now Lulu is using Rollo, so whats the difference? Also I believe that Rollo would rather be used by Lulu, now that I have confirmed that Rollo is simply following orders and not out in a vendetta against Zero.

PS: Did no one notice that Kallen seems to know A LOT about Geass that Zero/Lulu has? I originally thought that she just knows the Geass’ ability of absolute obedience, but now in this ep. it seems Kallen knows quite a lot more, seeing as she commented on how lULU cant use the geass unless Guilford comes out of his knightmare frame.

    Harima
  100. I am looking forward to when Lelouch calls all the Black Knights out and personally take out that mask that hide his identity one year ago. That way those members can trust him more.

    Zero
  101. @Zero
Actually, the death of Lulu in Nightmare of Nunnally manga only helped her to release all the hatred she already held. Its already implied in anime that Nunnally does know the real situation of the world. She just tries to act all happy to not trouble her brother..

And we do not know what they said to Anime-universe Nunnally. She could have been informed that her brother died during Ashford incident.

    UnknownVoice
  102. Nunnally, as someone who had her eyes closed shut for so many years must have trained her hearing skills a lot. She must have been conscious that Lelouch was Zero all this time. She likes her brother enough to have simulated ignorance in season one and tried to make him believe she was happy while in fact she must have been extremely worried inside for the dangers Lelouch was coming through while being under Zero mask.

    z
  103. @Z
If she knows her brother is Zero, then she should have known better to trust Zero instead of making a diversion for the Council members to go rescue Suzaku in Stage 24 and ended up kidnapped by V.V. Even so, when she mistakes V.V. for C.C. I think she might be aware of their similar presence as immortal beings who can bestow geass on “interesting individuals” I think Nunnally must like C.C. a lot, she even thought C.C. was Lelouch’s lover from the beginning though it did almost come true in the end of season 1. I kinda want to see Nunnally called C.C.”Onee-sama” though it is highly unlikely seeing how this series does not concentrate on romance

  104. The Suzaku VS Lelouch debate never ends, it seems -_-.

As for Lelouch and Rollo – and Lelouch’s “plans” for Rollo goes, well.. I can sort of understand how Lelouch would feel here. I have a number of sisters myself and if I were to get my memory erased, then get it back and discover that one of them has been replaced by a (sort of) emotionless killer who was using me as a bait, I doubt “Well, forgive him/her because he/she is really just a lost puppy (sorta) and accept him/her as a true brother/sister to me!” would be the first thing on my mind… That being said, I hope the little chap (Rollo, obviously) will come to grow on Lelouch and end up not being “discarded” as such in the end.

    SpectatorBeholder
  105. Li Xingke royal to the empress, and the empress is a little girl which means the possibility of her being manipulated by lulu is quite high. if that happens, Li Xingke will have a hard time of being used instead of using lulu xd.

  106. Well, that Rollo power explanation explains my paradox I said in Code Geass R2 comment board. Quite nifty how they fixed the time paradox with a sensation of time paradox which adds to the fact that he’s not insanely powerful. Also, I’m guessing that he was able to time the moment the Burai made the final move on himself to distort the time sense of everyone and escape. Rollos quite skillful for a guy whos getting played at.

  107. this is for the suzaku vs lulu debate:

lets just face it people, both side are evil and each has its own justification but isn’t it all about choosing the lesser evil?

suzaku has absolutely no idea of what he is doing and how to accomplish his supposed goals. I mean he is just a dumb tool who does just what he is asked to do and just clouds his mind with his own selfish idea of justice. He even had a chance to have a clear way of creating change through joining the black knights but we know what happend. He is in no position to change anything even if he is part of the knight of rounds what can he do after that? what comes next? in the end if gets his way the elevens wound still wound up as second class citizens to be used and exploited and so would everybody that ends up under the flag of brittania. Hell the entire history of the country is based social darwinism = only the strong=brittania rule and makes everyone else…. pawns

Lelouch on the other hand is in the position of power which with his brilliant mind might be enough to change the world. To those who say that he is evil using and sacrificing people for his goals well insn’t it supposed to be expected? Everything has a price, just look at the revolutions of the past would you call that wrong? hell that would make americans and all the other people in the world who fought for freedom evil.

my vote is with lelouch (bows and sits patiently on chair waiting for argument)

    MichJobert
  108. The ends justify the means, I’ve always believed that.
The mere thought of taking advantage of somebody isn’t a sin until great harm is done to that person. As long as Lelouch doesn’t cross the line of morality, he’s a hero to me. Light Yagami is a b*tch, he killed all his supporters. Lelouch doesn’t, he may not love his subordinates but he harbors no hatred towards them, at least not to the point of killing them in cold blood like Kira. And he’s not like his father, how come many people are still so stupid? The Emperor is a Nazi supporter, while Lelouch aims for a free country where people are equal. Yet you expect Lelouch to negotiate with the man? Blood has to be spilt for a greater cause. Only a coward would expect to kill no one.
And what’s this nonsensical rambling about whether Nunally wants it or not, didn’t you see how the Emperor thinks of her? (“okie she’s my daughter but now she’s just a failure as a human being”) Lelouch knows that, so he wants to whack him for good. Anybody who opposes him doing so, is a Nazi too.
Suzaku is a fool to think that he can change the whole system (as if the Emperor would let him, and I SECOND THIS, HE AIN’T GONNA CHANGE NOTHING, unless he KILLS the Emperor and takes his place). Such delusions will ultimately lead to him hurting others (and guess what he already DID). OH, did some1 say his turning Lelouch in was a good act? Well it’s because he was still so obsessed with his own delusion. What he could have done instead: Get his head out of his butt, fight Britannia together with Lelouch and brings peace to the world. He thinks what Lelouch’s done is evil, well look who’s speaking. How many people has he already killed? Should someone who fights to liberate their own country die? Do you support Suzaku in that kind of killing?? Are you like those people who agree with the US invading Vietnam? When it comes down to that, he’s clearly a hypocrite! He kills way too many good people (who also have their own friends and families). While on the other hand, those Britannian soldiers are INVADERS. They can go to hell, see if I care.
For all of you who read too many fairy tales and think one should act like a righteous hero in his shining armor, go cry to your mama. Christ. The law exists to ensure everyone’s happiness, does it not? One should not use it to promote evil (as in Death note). And to those who think Lelouch doesn’t have the right to judge what is right and what is wrong, well here’s something for ya: it only takes 2 seconds for an elementary student to realize the Emperor’s half-assed policy is the unjust, immoral, tyrannical one. And don’t even mention Light here, it’s another completely different story (seriously, how can you look at a mere piece of news and decide whether the guy is guilty or not?)
About Mr.Rolo, here’s my opinion: Lelouch is quite content with his success in converting Rolo to his cause. What, that’s some kind of sin? NOT YET. Knowing the series, I trust the writer will not make Lelouch become another Kira and lead Rolo to his death for his own convenience. If he does, however, then I’m sorry for having trusted him. The series would be degraded into a fight between two murderous villains, which ain’t even worth watching.

  109. Well, I guess Suzaku and lelouch know very well that they can’t cause anymore trouble for their friends in Ashford, so Suzaku’s role here will be the same as rollo, obviously this time Suzaku won’t be fooled anymore.

  110. I want to see nunnally as per Knightmare of Nunnally AU idea. woulda been cool to see that happen near the end. I mean.. Nunnally is basically with dad and that evil type alien guy and he looks very much like the same one who did give Nunnally the geass in tha AU manga.

Man… wanna see that done just to make things hotter.

    sdliddo
  111. i just ad a thought:

lulu kills dad = becomes king = owns brittania and japan

marries the empress = owns brittania and chinese fed

    by default rules the world

    bwaahahahahaha

  112. I have no idea how people think Lulu has any affection towards rolo, he says hes going to use the fake basterd that stole his sister place, then toss him aside like a piece of trash.

Honestly, I don’t think it gets more clear then that.

  113. If you’re looking for a good friend, look no further than Suzaku. He’s the best friend you can ever get (watch season 1).
If you want a genius as your leader to liberate your country, the man is Lelouch (unsurprisingly).
In this world, there are not only rights and wrongs. Ambition and reality are two different things, without some serious planning every effort you put in will be in vain, if not will lead to adverse effects. Suzaku, with his strong self-righteousness, clearly needs to learn those things. He doesn’t understand his killing is wrong, he doesn’t understand Euphie’s death was an accident, he doesn’t understand his naive goals are unrealistic. While still in confusion as to what he should do to achieve those impossible goals, he keeps on killing people. He’s just one of those strategic characters you find in most series, much like Rolo at his young age.
Things turned out to be disastrous when Suzaku, who doesn’t appear to understand the true meaning of morality but only knows to follow his own sense of justice and takes thing at face value, witnessed the carnage wrought by Lelouch, his best friend. You could say he lacks intelligence, but by my definition, he lacks wisdom. For example, do you think Robin Hood is a murderer/criminal or a hero ? Knowing Suzaku, he will almost immediately go hunt the guy down. And do you think someone who fights for their country’s freedom is a terrorist or a patriot? Knowing Suzaku, he’ll be threatening him to either surrender or face his wrath. Isn’t it ironic, how justice always lies with the winners… If only he could understand the importance of independence to a nation. Many countries have learned the bloody lesson, that there’s nothing greater than freedom, than liberty (America, China, Poland, Algeria…). Forcing nations to succumb to Britannia is certainly the worst thing you can do to them. And this guy doesn’t even understand it. In his quest for ultimate justice, he has subconsciously become the tyrannical counterpart he always despised, whereas Lelouch has long been aware of himself turning evil and adjusting it to fit the greater cause.
Do not support Suzaku as he’s in his state right now, because it’s the writer’s wish to tell you that not everything is what it seems. Take a closer look and you’ll understand who the real hero is, and who the strategic, pathetic hero is. All in all, they’ve succeeded in creating such a complex character. And I hail Suzaku for making Code Geass such an enjoyable series.
    He shouldn’t die anytime soon.

  114. @MichJobert : there’s still the EU before he can claim the world. But my gut feeling tells me that this anime isnt aim toward world domination, in a sense of ruleing the whole world. Instead it will focus on the fight between japan and brittinia then may lead to the final war between CC side and VV side.

@Raiji: well said on the 2 characters personalities. But u wouldnt want to make suzaku as friend if ur path cross his path =.=”

    mysterious
  115. @Landaren: i have never seen anyone here said that lulu has any affection toward rollo. BUT they HOPE that lulu in the progress may come to treat rollo better. But then again, rollo appears as an enemy so i wouldnt expect he will get anything good from lulu. i am sympathy for him tho.

  116. “What I don’t get is how exactly he and Lelouch are able to be in the same room together without trying to kill each other. Do they agree not to fight in school for the sake of their friends or something?”

OMNI:They have to act as if nothing ever happened, because you have to remebre that Suzaku still thinks that Lelouch hasn’t recover his memory yet or at least has to act like he doesn’t know and Lelouch has to keep acting like he doesen’t remember anything about Zero, C.C. and Nunnally.

  117. I think too many people can’t get past Rolo’s cute puppy-dog face. They’re all like “OMG! He just needs a hug!11!ONE!!! Lelouch you are an evil bastard! Die!”

Except that Rolo is a psycho little assassin who runs around killing people left and right without a thought. He’s the guy in on the mind-wipe plot of the Emperor’s, who basically stole Nunnally’s place and was ordered to kill Lelouch if his memories returned. Yeah, well sorry, I wouldn’t be having warm, fuzzy feelings for this guy either if I was Lelouch. I’d be freakin pissed. So I can’t blame Lelouch for being a bit mean or vindictive at the moment. Maybe he’ll get over the anger though and learn to think better of Rolo…who knows…

Not to mention the fact that manipulating Rolo on to his side somehow was really the only real choice he had. Killing Rolo was not an option at the moment and leaving Rolo alone and fleeing was also not an option (because Rolo would then tell Villeta that Lulu’s memories were back. Lulu fears Nunnally will be hurt if this happens).

  118. whoa…the debates of Lelouch VS. Suzaku are going on and on….reminds me of Light Vs. L…LOL

Except that Suzaku is not a good chess player and not like L because L is smarter than Suzaku and Suzaku follows his decisions through his emotions…unlike L who made quick decisions…

For one, I admire Lelouch despite of him being evil and all, but he’s doing it so he can find out who killed his mom and build a peaceful world for his sister….Lelouch plans carefully like Light except that Light killed his surbordinates and thinks much about himself being a god ….

As for Rollo, hmm….the more we learn his past, the more his character becomes interesting…and also for Li Xingke, I’m beginning to like this guy…

Hey, maybe Li Xingke and Suzaku should a one-on-one showdown….LOL

    ryuk
  119. Lelouch is trying to make the world better and Suzaku is screwing it up. Lelouch is trying to drive out invaders and Suzaku is helping them invade more countries. Does it get any simpler than that?

  120. Man, I loved the game Lost Colors, the story is so great and you can avoid the scenario where Euphemia goes crazy because of the geass by using geass yourself. Thus Nippon is created and everyone lived happily ever after, the happiest ending I had unlocked so far. The game is so COOL!!!

    Zero
  121. man, they got different animators for Turn 4, Lelouch does not look like how he was in Turn 3, they make his face worse. I knew it because when I compare the CG in Lost Colors when Lelouch wears Zero’s cape, his face is exactly the same as in Turn 1-3. Turn 4 is a successful episode, but it fails in the animation department because it does not keep up with the animation from previous episodes. I feel slightly disappointed when I watched it. No wonder I felt something was off when looking at Lelouch’s face.

    Zero
  122. >>I was thinking Lulu was evil too in this episode, but come to think of it, Lulu could’ve let Rolo die from that bullet coming from behind or ordered that knight who’s Darlton’s son to kill Rolo and make it look like an accident.

Lulu can’t let Rolo die there because then the team that watch him will know that he regain his memory. The team think that Lulu and Rolo are somewhere else.

  123. alright, just let it be
    Lelouch sides WIN!!
It’s obvious that the majority people vote lelouch’s way compared to the fcuking bastard Suzaku…too obvious..
No matter what forum i searched, people like lelouch more than suzaku…
    including me, hahaha…

  124. Lelouch is the incarnation of suffering, agony, and evil. Suzaku is the incarnation of friendship and naivety. I personally like Suzaku for a friend and Lelouch for a leader. For the question by obethx, I don’t think C.C. ever give Rolo the geass, it is just impossible! C.C. only ever give Mao and Lelouch he geass and no one else. She said she never gave the Emperor the geass so we can deduce that she never give the Britannia side the geass at all! Most people guessed V.V. is the one who gave both Emperor and Rolo their geass and I think it is logical. Let’s see how the Black Knights react when Rolo join their side in the next episode on Sunday so we can confirm whether C.C. had met Rolo before or not.

    Zero
  125. let just hope that rollo wont mass killing the members of the black knight as he did to the tokyo division. Since the black knight already is short on manpower =.=’
ps: ah the geass withdrawn has started again ~__~

  126. So far R2 has been one disappointment after another. This episode didn’t do much to change my mind. So many coincidences have to happen for anything to work out. Good planning? Not really. It just everything works out for Lelouch.

    woo
  127. @woo
Yeah, not everything will work out for Lelouch. For the next sets of episodes of the month, that is. It depends, sometimes he wins, sometime he has to withdraw and lose. It’s only working now because he’s just getting started, letting out some steam, getting his OotBK back and manipulating again before the huge problem would start. Frankly, I though that R2 is doing good, though it is annoying how they use S1 >.>…but it will bound to stop soon when Code Geass R2 will take its own turn.

    miko-chan
  128. I’m sooo hopping for a Hamlet ending. At this point Lelouch is just as black as his father and Suzaku has allowed himself to be dragged down by them. Best ending all the ey characters die!

Hard to root for an anime were both sides come off as the bad guy.

    Neko
  129. That’s what we would all like to know.

I suspect that we will soon get to see Nunnaly, and that the real R2 will begin once Lelouch rescues her, as he can do almost nothing until then (because he doesn’t want to put her in danger).

  130. Eclipse and gg fansub groups only take about 10-15 hours to finish subbing one episode of Code Geass R2 so Tmoo, you do not have to worry so much. This is the first time I had know that one episode of a series got subtitles in less than one day since the time it was aired in Japan.

    Zero
  131. I don’t understand what happened when Li Xingke entered the room to talk to Kallen and C.C.
I mean, C.C. said something like “Zero unleashed something without noticing…” maybe refering to Xingke’s behaviour.

    Can someone clarify me this?

    Xanathos
  132. I don’t know why Lelouch DOESN’T have any feelings for Rolo (even Villetta finally felt bad about Ougi, apparently). It was a flaw of Death Note’s that Light reverted so instantly and completely back to character after retrieving the Note and his memories; it looks like CG hasn’t learned much from DN’s mistakes.

It also seems that they’re having Lelouch betray Rolo so that there’s a parallel to Lelouch’s relationship with Suzaku, as it currently stands. Suzaku doesn’t understand what happened with Euphemia, so he’s convinced that Lelouch no longer bears any resemblance to the friend he once had.

So Lelouch still cares for Suzaku (why wouldn’t he?) but Suzaku CAN’T care for Lelouch (because he misunderstands him). Rolo still cares for Lelouch, but Lelouch CAN’T care for Rolo.. because the writers just decided it had to be that way.

Or that’s how it seems to me. Lelouch, hitherto, has seemed too logical, and too good, to take out his frustration over Nunnally on Nunnally’s replacement, since that’s unfair and makes no sense.

  133. To answer the 7th post, the students all think Karin is some sick person that misses school due to illness. Probably just think she got sick again, either that or there memories about her were blocked.

Well, a comment about my previous episodes post. It looks like Rolo may not be who I though he was but now I question where he got this power from. Did V.V. the emperors trap male immortal give it to him or is there a 3rd Geass giver?

Will be interesting to find out. Now on to episode 5, its nice not having to wait. xD
