「清廉潔白風紀委員」 (Seirenkeppaku Fuuki-iin)
“The Honest and Upright Public Morals Committee Member”

While waiting for Rito in the morning, Lala uses her mini magnetic robot to pull him off the toilet and straight into Haruna. Run then tackles Rito, saying she’ll never forget the kiss they shared. Soon after, Saki comes by declaring another contest to Lala, but says this time she’ll take her finance away if she doesn’t show up. Bothered by all the disruptions they’ve caused around the school, Public Morals Committee member Kotegawa Yui tries to put a stop to everything, but fails to do so.

In class, Yui suspects that Rito is the cause of all this (because guys are always the source of problems… apparently), so she later brings up the moral concerns to all the students and faculty members. Strictly banning illicit sexual relationships, clothes unbefitting of school, and items not necessary for learning, Yui also “convinces” the principal to restrict Rito from contact with females for two weeks. With Rito quarantined, Yui feels that order has been restored to the school, but she soon realizes that things haven’t changed at all. Thinking that she may have made a mistake, Yui decides to follow Rito around after school while he bears a sign asking girls not to talk to him.

During this, Yui discovers the pure, honest, and kind person Rito is when she sees him moved to tears by a movie, carry luggage for an old lady, give CPR to a stranger, replant a dying flower, and help a lost girl find her mother. Seeing Rito in a new light, Yui’s heart starts to throb, so she apologizes for misunderstanding him. Before Rito can say anything though, he gets magnetically dragged off to a gathering Lala has put together to cheer him up, taking Yui along with him.

The next morning, Rito falls victim again to Lala’s accidental perversions, except this time, Yui doesn’t quite blame everything on Rito, but still tags him with a sign that says “beast” (ケダモノ) and tells everyone that illicit sexual relationships aren’t allowed.

Next Episode:
「光星より愛を込めて」 (Kousei yori Ai wo Komete)
“Includes Love From A Shining Star”

Impressions:
You know, sometimes I really want to be proven wrong about some of my hunches, and such was the case with Run being all “friendly” with Rito. I guess it was only a matter of time before Run got attached to Rito, given the harem-ish nature of the series; however, I didn’t expect this match-up to happen so soon after I just mentioned not wanting to see it happen. I bet this is just the writers reinforcing Murphy’s Law and laughing in my face. -_-;

In any case, the most interesting thing about this episode was undoubtedly Kotegawa Yui, who’s a member of the Public Morals Committee. As mentioned before, she’s played by Nadzuka Kaori (Eureka in Eureka Seven, Yuasa Hiromi in true tears, Nakatsukasa Tsubaki in Soul Eater, Nunnally in CODE GEASS). It was nice to see Kaori casted in a tsundere role this time, as her voice is really pleasant to listen to even when she’s not playing timid characters like Hiromi and Nunnally. In a somewhat obvious comparison to Kanokon, you could probably say that Yui’s the Akane of To LOVE-Ru, except she doesn’t seem quite as likely to pop a vein from all the perverted antics everyone else gets into. Given how she’s the upright and earnest type, putting her in a bunch of perverted situations against her will is probably going to be the biggest appeal of her character. So for all you people with fetishes about the somewhat unwilling type (you know who you are), there’s Yui for you.

Aside from this fan-service from her character, I see Yui as “fair” competition for Haruna in the never-ending struggle to capture Rito’s affection. Because of this, I’m interested to see what happens between those two when it comes to our male protagonist. I don’t quite have that same interest when it comes to Saki and Run because they’re the forceful type (much like Lala, but at least we know she means well), which makes them come off as obstacles rather than “potential candidates”. Personally, it’s the development of these characters amongst all the noisy ones that makes harem anime entertaining to me. This is why Haruna quickly became my favorite character early in the series, even though Lala was still cute in her own way. Also, this is the main reason why I prefer shows like To LOVE-Ru over Kanokon, which lacks any “normal” girls who are interested in male lead.

Next time, it looks like Lala’s going to do some nurse cosplay and there will be more characters introduced yet again. I imagine that she’s the school’s “hot nurse”, since all school life anime seem to have one of those. There’s also a new alien, who reminds me The Rocketeer with the way he flies around. As for what his role is in the overall story, your guess is as good as mine.

  1. man, compare to kanokon, this is nothing, the main character here is ACCIDENTALLY put in those situations, just like many other ecchi shows. in kanokon, the main character is the true “erotic king”, he is actually FORCED to do all the erotic stuff plus a lot more. Rito does not enjoy his situation but kouta seems to enjoy it so much. thats why kanokon > To Love Ru

    meh
  2. To each his own. It really just depends on how they decide to animate it really. I really prefer ToLoveRu’s manga over the Kanokon manga… yet I prefer the Kanokon anime over ToLoveRu’s. Depends on who is in charge of the job I guess.

  3. @meh:
    I would probably say that Rito gets forced into situations too. The bigger difference is probably that both the female leads in Kanokon are ecchi themselves, whereas neither are ecchi in To LOVE-Ru. This is why I personally prefer the latter series; it’s not just pure fan-service with no real sense of “relationships”.

  4. Bring Yami already,for god´s sake!!!!!!!!!!Stop deforming the manga´s timeline!!!
    Even if i say so,that deformation gives the series some fresh air.Also,it´s true that is more enjoyable if you read the manga at the same time.
    And with Yui being my second (maybe first) favorite girl, there´s no real reason to protest at all—–

  5. YUI IN DA HOUSE… but wheres my YAMI-Chan? TT_TT
    well, we get that hot alien nurse next episode *general warning: do not ever take medicine from a japanese Nurse, dat chemlab or the cursed schoolracket: in 9/10 cases u will end up affected with either death, curse or gender bending*

    well, this show really going for a rapid charintroduction…next week the alien sensei and a love rival…
    ep 10 = ? Anime-only extra char or sensei part 2?
    ep11 = YAMI-CHAN!
    ep12= Sport festival…(wasnt that supposed to be chapter 80+ they do jump! up and down)
    ….
    well, than theres dat onsen Ep, dat lonely island ep, dat war in bathhouse, dat father comes for greeting, dat RPG ep, da run revenge ep, dat queen in love with rito ep and dat ghost possesion of haru

    strech some episodes – put some xmax nude special into it…one more character..and some “flag” episodes and we hve the first season 26 ep of to love ru…an 2nd will enclude rito become a woman and mass pregnacy…and finaly the law court (poor rito…must pay for his children with his harem girls and for his own), well that goes to far

  6. @Meh: LOL
    Tell me you like Kanokon for the blatant pr0n and you are right on that side. Go watch a couple Hentais, that’s better.
    But don’t tell me about chars, relations, story and other random stuff ’cause kanokon has got nothing at all.

    I’d rather compare Toloveru to Urusei Yatsura (Lum) …

  7. if u can’t predict who rito will end up with already you should quit watching anime.
    rito will end up with LaLa. Anime is too preditable yet still enjoyable to watch

    Disclaimer
  8. @Meh

    seriously, kanokon is TOO pr0n, oh wait, maybe that’s what you like isn’t it? go watch Hentai dude…ToLoveRu is cleaner and the story overall is pretty cool, they can do “funny” with the minimum amt. of ecchiness…

    @KokWeng

    Bad Request wtf cant open it XD

    XIII
  9. How could that be predictable Disclaimer? He doesn’t love Lala. It is a possibility but there are two options. It could be either one. The rest is predictable but this is the greatest doubt on the series.

  10. Yami-chan? Where art thou fair Yami-Yami-chan? T___T

    they sure are introducing lotsa characters. . . i wonder how much of the manga story arcs will change . . . anybody know how many episodes this anime will be?

  11. 2×26 put a r+v2 between…
    well, there are still some one episode gags like rito takes the “feel good” medicine and turns temp. into a playboy (= he lost his fear/shyness toward girls)

    well, i think that the actual manga chapter 101 (where rito is a girl) arc will be either the end of this 26 episodes or the beginning of the new ark… the probably push some of the stepsister in law ark and maybe we realy get a “anime-only” girl char for rito…and in the end rito became pregnant as rita with the child of zastin… well and lala got herself a baby with a rito (male) clone….no that not he true ending – but a possibilty O_o

  12. I see that most people judge ecchi by how many tissues they need while they do their business.I don’t think that is the case everytime because we have hentai for that.Anyway,its fun to guess what kinda nonsense the studio comes up with every week since we’re pretty much into almost all anime original stuff now =/
