• The big story of the day, which made it all the way into the English mainstream media, is that a man went on a killing spree today in Akihabara, killing seven and wounding seventeen, by plowing a truck into the crowds and stabbing people. CNN has the report. Divine writes, “kind of glad i didn’t go to akiba today.”
  • The upcoming Ga-Rei-Zero anime has opened its website with some staff listings. These are the same ones that were announced back in April: Aoki Ei as director, Takayama Katsuhiko on series composition, and animation production by asread and AIC Spirits.
  • Variety Japan reports that the updated 3-D CG Ghost in the Shell movie will open in five cities across Japan on July 12th.
  • It was officially announced that the new Katekyo Hitman Reborn! ending song starting in July will be CYCLE by CHERRYBLOSSOM. As those of you who watch the series might remember, CHERRYBLOSSOM also performed the third opening song.
  • If you find anything that you think I should mention on any particular day’s Daily Dose, please send me an email with the words “ANIME NEWS” somewhere in the subject line.

    1. I am glad too that Divine didn’t go to Akiba that day… Oh man, people these days. Why Akiba? Is that guy some kind of Otaku-haters or just a people-hater in general?

    2. I’d guess he was a people-hater since he said that he was “tired of his life and was sick of everything” in the report; maybe he hated everyone who weren’t tired of their lives?

      That’s my best guess… I wouldn’t know how a murderer thinks.

    3. i heard he was only 25, i want to know a little more about why he did it, in the British news it was reported he said “I was sick of life” but no more was given than that.

    4. Man, that incident at Akihabara was terrible. And from some website i read that that dude just felt like hitting people and stabbing everyone… what a miserable world.

    5. Ikarugen, don’t say it’s a ‘miserable world’. It’s one moron in the midst of all the other sane people in Japan. Don’t make it sound like the victims played a part of the whole ‘miserable’ nature of this crime.

I mean, for it to happen in broad daylight is what gets me. Especially considering the fact that Akihabara is probably my own personal mecca and for others who are very into videogames and anime/manga.

Thanks for the concern! The incident was being covered all over the news today and they were going into detail about his attacks. i.e. How he rented a 2-tonne truck and hit three people with it before getting out and slashing people randomly with his survival knife. They even mapped out his path of carnage and noted how police officers were among his victims.

It seems like he was just sick of life and decided to take out some people with him. He even posted the attack ahead of time on 2chan, but I don’t think anyone took him seriously at the time.

The whole ordeal is pretty terrible, especially for the families of the victims of course.

    7. Shippoyasha, its miserable in the sense that no one was able to help the man, ie. convincing that the world doesn’t suck. Just like that incident that happened in Connecticut where a man was hit by a car and no one helped- Seriously? Yeah that is kinda miserable.

In the era of Emo-ness, tons of people LOVE to tell others that they hate life, want to kill themselves, can’t stand other human beings etc… That makes it kind of hard to know which of the emo/hate/murder-notice babbling should be taken seriously.

It’s nobody’s business for that person to not commit the crime he did. You can’t play monday morning quarterback and say for certain it’s possible to do so. As for that Connecticut hit&run, the reports afterwards says people did call 911 in cellphones. It’s a shame that particular Connecticut citizens didn’t help obviously.

But you can’t pin the rest of humanity on these relatively freakish incidents. I place blame solely on those who are at fault for it.

Of course, all these bad news get press but what about the fact that Japan is still one of the safest large 1st world nations in the world? What about Connecticut, too? It’s one of the safest states in the US.

Also, bad news gets a LOT of press. What about some GOOD news that happens all the time, that isn’t sensationalized?

    10. hmm… must be playin too much gta or something.

eventhough that guy is sick and tired of whatever he’s blamin on, he shouldn’t take it out on others.

hope that he’ll be locked up for good.

    11. Well for the person to go on a killing streak is partially due to society as he merely states he wanted to kill somne people, not take revenge for something that happened to him. Also, Japan has a relatively high suicide rate which shows all is not well in that society. But then again, a number of western nations are somewhat in the same situation.
