Summary:

The Katharon forces face not just a Memento Mori that can shoot space-ward, but also a rebuilt Gadessa piloted by Hiling Care plus the rest of the A-LAWS fleet. Their mobile suits end up being no match for their opponents, and the missile barrage they fire is largely ineffective. Fortunately, the 00 Raiser comes to their rescue, and Setsuna tells the Katharon commander that Celestial Being will be taking over the satellite weapon destruction mission, so Katharon sends him their data on the satellite. Celestial Being’s appearance is not surprising to Lindt who is commanding the A-LAWS defense, and he lets Hiling Care take care of the Gundam while the rest of the A-LAWS fleet prepares for the Ptolemaios. He’s also not too concerned when Hiling takes off after the 00 Raiser because she has a license to do what she wants. While this is going on, at a nearby orbital station, Wang Liu Mei returns to Hong Long, and he notices the red mark on her face. This leads her to comment on how the jealousy of a man is ugly, and – listening in on the conversation from her shuttle – Nena notes that the jealousy of a woman is also ugly.

Over on the Ptolemaios, they receive the data on the Memento Mori, and from it, they conclude that there are limits to the firing angle of the weapon. They also get the weapon’s internal structure data from someone they assume to be Wang Liu Mei at around the same time, and Feldt notices that the location of the electromagnetic field optical resonance area is the weak point. Given this, Sumeragi decides that they’ll approach and attack from the Memento Mori’s blind spot, though they’ll need the precise coordination of Tieria and Lockon. Elsewhere on the ship, Marie confirms to Saji that Louise is indeed an A-LAWS pilot, but their conversation is interrupted by Sumeragi requesting Marie’s help. With everything now in place, Sumeragi informs Setsuna of the start of the mission, so Setsuna draws the attention of Hiling Care, and the Ptolemaios is able to race past the two mobile suits. However, the ship then takes heavy fire from the rest of the defenses, and that forces it onto a rightward trajectory, right into the Memento Mori’s firing angle. Sumeragi waits until Marie gives her the go-ahead to order Allelujah to activate the Arios’ Trans-Am, and this gives the Ptolemaios the necessary boost to avoid the Memento Mori’s massive blast.

The next part of Sumeragi’s plan involves the Cherudim protecting the Ptolemaios with its Shield Bits, and the 00 Raiser is able to destroy the rebuilt Gadessa’s GN Mega Launcher to prevent it from being fired at the ship. The Ptolemaios is thus able to blitz past the main elements of the defense fleet, but the Shield Bits are getting destroyed one by one, and the Arios’ Trans-Am soon reaches its limit. Determined to do this, Sumeragi eventually orders Tieria to activate the Seravee’s Trans-Am and fire the Hyper Burst, and that blast followed by a wave of GN missiles slams into the side of the Memento Mori. Although these aren’t enough to destroy their target, it does create an opening for Lyle to fire a shot at the electromagnetic field optical resonance area. With everything on the line, he hits the target, and the Ptolemaios races past the satellite weapon right before it explodes. The explosion causes chunks of the structure to fly in several directions, and some of them crash into Lindt’s command ship, destroying it. Sumeragi then orders a withdrawal from the area, but before Setsuna follows suit, he gets some help in distracting Hiling, and the 00 Raiser is able to cut off one of the rebuilt Gadessa’s arms. As he flies away, Setsuna identifies the red beam fire that helped him as that from a unit with a pseudo-GN Drive, and it turns out that it was actually from Nena’s shuttle.

Back on Earth, Klaus and the other Katharon survivors watch as the debris burns up in the atmosphere. The children are impressed by the sight of this, but Klaus calls it the lights of battle which cannot be allowed to remain in the children’s time. Also watching these lights is Sergei from his military office, and he realizes what has happened. His thoughts are interrupted though by the arrival of a Colonel Pang Hercule who knows Sergei as the Wild Bear of Russia.

Gundam 00 sure has been exciting lately, hasn’t it? It’s clear that Lindt’s planning is no match for Sumeragi’s, and it was fun watching her outwit him. Actually, while the Celestial Being crew was looking at that diagram of the Memento Mori, I half expected someone to start talking about having to maneuver down a trench and shoot a target area two meters wide (a la the attack on the Death Star in Star Wars). In all seriousness though, a lot of credit goes to Sumeragi for knowing what to do and to the Gundam pilots – especially Lyle who both protected the ship and got in the winning shot – for their roles. I’m also glad that Lindt is finally dead so that he won’t be around to screw up anything Kati may eventually do (I can see her possibly turning against A-LAWS). Come to think of it, it would have been nice it Kati had gotten to kill Lindt after what happened in episode six, but oh well.

It was nice too – and somewhat unexpected – to see Nena get back into the action and help Setsuna during the battle. Her involvement and opposition to Wang Liu Mei contributed to the Celestial Being victory here, and I suspect this won’t be the last time she helps them. It would be something like poetic justice if she could help Setsuna take down Ali Al Saachez. Speaking of which, I’m curious to see if she eventually gets a new Gundam that’ll (hopefully) be better than the Arche Gundam. I’m sure Wang Liu Mei has the money to do it, someone just has to convince her to. In any case, Nena appearing to get back into the thick of things is only one part of what’s made these past 13 episodes so good, and at this halfway point, I have to say that I’ve been very pleased with the series. And now we’re really getting close to the endgame. I wonder what role the new Hercule guy will play, but we won’t find out until January 11th, 2009 because there is no new episode next week. There’s only going to be a Gundam 00 special featuring some Japanese celebrities and comedians (Tsuchida Teruyuki, Chihara Seiji, Handa Kento).

  1. I suspect that Nena already has a new Gundam, which is inside her shuttle ala the Ptolemy crew’s assault containers in season 1.

I figure at some point she’ll seemingly get killed during a battle, only for her new Gundam to emerge out of the exploding shuttle.

  2. Tokkan: Fixed, although I’m surprised you didn’t also point out that I spelled the name wrong 😛
To be honest though, there’s so many official spellings of everything that I never trust anything until I actually see it written in an episode. Case in point, I saw several different spellings for 0 Raiser from magazine scans, and I finally took as official what was displayed on the Gundam’s forehead two episodes ago.

  3. exile, the federation runs a-laws. therefore federation is a-laws. and again innovators comes in pairs. their voice are their biggest distinguishing factor. one is a male, one is a female. in the case of revive/anew and ribbons/healing.

  4. no what i was implying was the world federation is the so-called feds who runs a-laws. and the rest are still aeu, union, and hrl. think of a-laws as world police.

one thing to say again GATTAI!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and did anyone notice lu mei’s boobs got bigger this time around. i must be the angle.

  5. @ Tokkan: That’s what I’m thinking too, but what we see (or did not see) can merely be an illusion meant to throw us off. It’d be more interesting though, since we won’t be having an extremely predictable scenario where everyone has moles on the protagonists except themselves.

  6. It was good that the other gundams get to show a little of their special side.

Cheridium: Shield Bits that can fire beams and what appears to be the Holocon(misspelled) system

Seravee: Trans-Arm Hyper Burst Mode and that mega GN Ball of Death.

Arios: Looks like no Gn archer until it is shown in the new OP first.

Details that may be missed: Marie tells Saji a little about Louise in A-laws. The mysterious new figure that appears to Sergei may try to convince him to rebell against the Federation based on the events that occurred to the disliking of some soldiers. It appears that all that Katharon’s forces manage to do during the entire fight is to get RAPED and hit(not destoryed) some A-Laws GN-XIII’s with their pathetic beams. Omni, you are right. There are not a threat militarily or a threat in the information world since they can’t even leak a tape of A-Laws using a weapon of mass destruction or killing people with their automations.

  7. Interesting note, the general flow of scenes hints that Nena leaked the Memento Mori schematics to the Ptolemy crew on her own without Wang telling her to do so, even though it says the info came from Wang. It’s probable that Wang has abandoned CB while Nena’s staying well aligned with them.

    Tokkan
  8. @Tokkan
It seems that way. It is possible that Nena is helping CB out of hate for Wang helping the person(ALi Ali Sarshes) that killed her brothers. The first half of the season as set up some interesting things to happen:

    1. Innovators’ interest in 00-Raizer
    2. Louise hatred for Saji despite his love for her.
    3. Wang Liu Mei and Nena confrontation
    4. Possible Federation vs. A-Law civil war if events continue like they are

Number three and four could cause some very interesting events to occur that would greatly affect the plot.

  9. Man why do Innovators have terrible naming sense? Healing Care, Ribbons Almark, Revive Revival…. wth?! For a supposed “superior” species who excels in various fields, they really suck when it comes to naming themselves lol. I admit Setsuna F. Seiei is a bad name as well, but it’s a hell of a lot better than the innovators.

Oh well back to the ep. were they able to take down the satellite? So the Kataron just proven themselves to be useless. Guess it’s up to celestial being, they should’ve at least planned the attack with Sumeragi, that way they couldve had a better chance than rushing in and practically committing suicide.

    X
  10. The name Ribbons ALmark is okay. How could Katharon contact CB? Their infomation and communcation network sucks too. Katharon was committing suicide the moment they decide to use fodder units to fight tau GN drive suits.

The “spoiler” that Wang will die in episode 16 was a rumour and it’s already been debunked. Proven false. It came with episode titles for eps 14 – 25 which have already been contradicted by the preview this episode and Gundam Ace.

  12. @X

Probably out of all the meister’s names, Lockon Stratos makes the most sense in relation to what they’re specialized in. Lol.

Btw, if Cherudim had all those shield bits on it, then how come they made it such a big fuss when he was sort of cornered by two ALOLS in the lat episode? ;P

oh and uh, about sumeragi asking marie to the bridge, can anyone guess the purpose?
My guess is to use her quantum brainwaves to detect the beam from momentomori coming so they can activate the transam to dodge it.

  13. the only left for this season is setsuna must talk to nena, why she have done 4 years ago.what i mean is, she destroy the party where louisse is and saji must avenge nena for louisse, i hope its not too late, even louisse joined A-Laws. and since saji knows the truth about the throne units, i believe nena is the one who will blame this incident 4 years, including louisse arm. anywayz, EP 13 really rocks, thank goodness that white haired guy is dead!!!

    dexter
  14. Ah, good ol’ mindless blowing shit up. Just like it should be.

It just leaves me wondering… What the hell are they going to do with the next 12 episodes? Taking out Memento Mori in 1 episode seems pretty fast, so there better be something 12x better than this episode.

And Lyle, rockin the Nerai utsu ze =)

    invAZN
  15. @roddy

When Cherudim uses the Shield Bits, its GN Drive becomes exposed and vulnerable. So it can’t use them effectively in a fight unless it’s 1-on-1 or he’s got good cover to stay behind.

    Tokkan
  16. Handa Kento? That’s the hero guy from KAMEN RIDER 555!!

‘Come to think of it, it would have been nice it Kati had gotten to kill Lindt after what happened in episode six, but oh well.’

OBVIOUSLY IT IS!! FUCK HIM!!! HE CAN GO TO HELL BY THE WAY.

    JafriZain2009
  17. tokkan, last season all gn drives are exposed due to their placements. but to elaborate futher. the cherudim’s gn drive is actually bare(not coverered at all with, no further armor) when the bits are deployed. so it’s riskier to use one on one due to the vulnerability that poses after they are deployed.

  18. Nena’s appearance does spell some possibilities for moar drama (from Saji, not that I’m particularly pleased but what the heck). Provided she reveals herself, of course. Other than that, this is a pretty nice episode to use for the end of the first half of the second season. I’m interested as to who Setsuna’s going to meet too, and the countermeasures used to take down and/or capture 00 Raiser.

Take care, Setsuna…Everyone wants a piece of you. XD

  19. Espada’s thoughts for episode 13:

    xD

    Positive Thoughts:
    1. Well done Sumeragi-san you did your strategy pretty well.
    2. Lindt – Goodbye baka! xD
    3. O-Raiser – “GOD LIKE!”.
    4. Cherudim’s Dragoon Shield Bit System in action!
    5. Peace Nena Peace V^^.

    Negative Thoughts:
    1. Using Cherudim, Arios, Seravee’s capabities inside Ptolemaios defenses only.
    2. Are Innovators immortal? Why can’t Setsuna kill just one of them =_=.
    3. AW!!!! no Gundam next week TT_TT

    —————————————————————————————–

im getting nervous about mr. bushido having less screen time, and twin pseudo drive mobile suit for him? X_x O-Raiser must be upgrade again!

    Espada
  20. @Roddy you’re probably right about the reasons for Marie being called to the bridge, her brain is superior so her timing should be perfect.

Also from Wang Liu Mei’s expression at the point that Memento Mori is fired at CB, you could tell she expected wanted them to perish (little smile, grin). So yeah I’m certain the intel came from Nena without Wang Liu Mei knowing. Her reasons, first of she hates Wang Liu Mei who works with Ali, the one that killed her brothers. Second, remember that Setsuna saved her life, by preventing Ali from killing her. She already liked the guy so but after that incident she probably thinks of him as some sort of messiah, at least I don’t see her trying the kill the organisation or pilot that saved her life, but it should make for a nice drama when she comes in contact with Saiji.

  21. As for a clash between Sergei (+ some federation forces) and A-laws, well there’s no need to have doubt about that happening. They have been guiding Sergei to this point from the moment that one of his own troops went behind his back and talked to A-laws (the saiji incendent). Everyone can see this coming, the only question left is when will it happen?

    JordiBlau
  22. Opening HYPER BURST MODE to it’s FULLEST FTW. That was my fav thing for this EP. I was expecting seravee to go trans am, and it did. Too bad it did the ball thingy, I’d rather it shoot something like what virtue shot with trans am in the first season.

Shield bits were okay, why couldn’t you just plug cherudim in for the GN field?

    freeyews
  23. setsuna needs to learn how to slash with his left more. that way he’ll finally take out one of the escape pods of the innovators suits. lol.

cherudim’s gn drive is in it’s ‘tail’? wth!

somehow i thought that seravee’s full blast didn’t seem to have that much firepower, either that ot momento mori’s armor must be hellava thick one.

    roddy
  24. Why do I feel like Wang Lang Liu let her do it on purpose, just so she doesn’t get blamed for it and can say, oh my surbordinate did that, not me.

Evil smile could go either way, but I think she knew what was going to happen.

    Sore no Kaze
  25. I can see Sergei turn against A-LAWS and join the battle alongside Celestial Being.
And in the end, when the federation big shots are descredited for alowing A-LAWS atrocities to go unchecked and are either thrown in jail or shot, Sergei can become the new president. He would be a good one i think. He seems to be an honorable and fair man.
Either that or he dies bravely in the final battle against A-LAWS, his death allowing CB to win the day.
    It can go either way.

Awesome episode, any episode in wich the Ptolemaios is used as more than just transportation puts a smile on my face.

Anyone knows if next episode will feature new OP and ED?

Anyway, Happy New Year to all who watch and discuss this awesome series here at RC.

  26. Poor Allelujah. Despite getting the GN Archer upgrade for his suit, he spends the previous 2 episodes escorting transport ship out of the fighting off screen with the combined Arios/Archer. And in this episode, he gets to say “Trans Am” while being stuck inside the ship powering it. That’s it. His entire appearance for episode 13 was two words said in one second. There were nameless grunts who had more lines and screen time then Allelujah did. And it’s not just this episode, he never is seen anywhere in the recent episodes. Seriously, Saji of all people gets to spend more time with Marie than Allelujah does. When’s the last time Allelujah got to fight in a battle, much less shoot someone down? I can’t remember, can you? He’s rapidly becoming a background character, and that’s bull. We need more Allelujah. I want to see him kick some ass. I want to see him have trouble relearning how to pilot without his other half. I want to see him bang Marie. Bring back Allelujah. I demand it.

  27. Hum, i was thinking about something …
What’s about the last Innovator that we haven’t seen by now, you know, Divine …
As far as we know, she’s female, some kind of double of Bring Stability, she has Red Hair, et she was supposed to be on the battlefield of Memento Mori just like Healing …

And what Character do we know to be red haired, female, and present (a little) on the battlefield this day ?
And Who has some kind of ability who are reminiscent of the Innovator, as accessing veda …
Yep, talking about Nena Trinity !
But that’s just my theory by now, what do you think about that ?

(sorry if my english is some kind of bad, i’m really used to read it but haven’t been practicing my writing for years)

    FredoBsi
  28. I’ve been pondering about the same thing, FredoBsi!
So far, we know that all of Veda’s biological terminals have a male and female counterpart (Ribbons+Healing; Revive+Anew; etc.), and we also know that they all have the ability to link with Veda. Finally, Bring Stability’s counterpart hasn’t been revealed yet. But if you think about it, Nena has the ability to access Veda (and there is no way she can do that unless her brain waves are artificially enhanced, just as Tieria’s and the Innovator’s brain waves are enhanced through genetic engineering) and she is very similar to Bring Stability in terms of physical features.
This is just my theory, though.

    >>~KeNTa~>
  29. Don’t you people ever watch the OP? Near the end you can see the Innovators gathered together: Regene, Healing, Ribbons, Divine, Bring, Revive (from left to right). The second red-haired person there is definitely not Nena, and I see no reason to believe that he is not Divine. So Nena is NOT Divine.

  30. IIRC the Trinity siblings are supposed to be Innovator/human hybrids. Ribbons needed some pawns that had Innovator-like abilities (ie Veda access), but were disposable once they’d completed their mission. He didn’t expect for Nena to survive this long; hopefully that oversight will bite him in the ass.

    Anonymous
  31. For shadowblack : i know that you’re talking about is the weak point about the theory, but who knows, i just found strange that Divine has officially not appeared while being mentionned several times, and so it made me think that perhaps is the sign of some kind of big surprise to come …
By the way, i don’t really find Bring Stability very well designed on the innovator picture group of the OP so we can assume they haven’t quite worked on them by the time they designed this picture for the OP, heh ? (not very successful for an explanation, i know).

And … Divine Trinity is quite cool as a name, mai ! 😉

We can also assume that if Divine is Nena, Ribbons has not only some kind of agent within CB (Anew) and ALaws (Healing, Revive, Bring) but also in the “Wang Liu Mei group” …
I’m not quite sure that Anew (and Nena, if my theory is accurate) are informed of their true nature, just like Tiera before (well, he knows he was not normal, that’s sure)

    FredoBsi
  32. I think Nena is much like Hanayo – they’re also Veda terminals, but not the same batch as the Innovators. Hanayo came before Ribbons’ group, Nena came after. We also know that Nena ages quite fast compared to the Innovators (Tieria hasn’t aged a bit, at least nothing Setsuna could notice, while Ali noticed the big difference in Nena), and it also looks like she is not tall enough to match Bring’s height. Now if we see Nena stand beside Tieria and she matches or beats his height, then I’d start entertaining the possibility of her being Divine. Aside from heights, there’s this other pattern – the whole thinker-fighter pair theory has’t been completely debunked, and is consistent so far with Ribbons+Hilling, Regene+Tieria, and Anew+Revive. I’m more entertaining the possibility that Divine is a pilot like Saji, Lasse or Anew.

    mai
  33. if previous comment mentioned that , innovators are in pair of female and male …
like Ribbons and healing , Revive and Anew … then how about Regenne Regentta and Tieria Erde ?? … who are the female ?? And i cnt believe my pretty Anew is 1 of them … T_T

AND do u guys mean … there is no new ep in the nxt 1 week ??!!?

    overlaw
  34. It’s that male and female theory again. If they show that Divine really is female, I’m sure everyone will go up and about again trying to pick out who’s female between Regene and Tieria. I haven’t rewatched S2 yet, but has any of the Innovators (who we could assume know the real deal) referred to Regene as “kare”?

    mai
  35. only ribbons knows what tieria is. he is definitely a guy, in which he showcase the manliest properties. regene on the other hand is a woman’s name therefore he/she is an androgyny st. plain and simple.
