Summary
Computer club challenges the SOS-dan to another video game – dodgeball – which somehow turns into a game of real dodgeball. Haruhi’s kamisama-ness takes over and everybody goes into seed break mode, but was there really any doubt who would win? A worthy successor to the baseball episode.

Thoughts
A double release of Haruhi-chan today, but where’s Churuya-san! Ah well, Haruhi-chan has really picked up, and even the animation is at an appropriate level now. Haruhi makes some more Konata faces as she accepts the computer club’s offer of a… kappa skeleton (?), and the match doesn’t disappoint!

What’s really great about these episodes is that the characters retain their original personalities (for the most part), but those things that they are really defined by are turned up about twenty notches, and the author just runs with it. Then again, Kyon is almost exactly the same character (multiply 0 by 20 and you still get 0), and Haruhi was already so over-the-top that it’s hard to get any more extreme than she already was. Perhaps that’s what makes Haruhi-chan so fun – the focus on the other characters that didn’t get enough love in the main series – Mikuru the jealous cosplayer, Nagato the caring otaku, and Achakura the independent but hopelessly needy pet/baby… genius. I wonder what Achakura is going to be next?

  1. My favourite is episode 6 because i could see a caring(and of course cute) Yuki with a very cute Asakura… Too bad, they removed Asakura early in the anime/light novel… she and Yuki would definietly make a good pairing… Wah… Sorry, my imagination went wild…

How is turning well-rounded characters into retarded fanservice hyperbole great? Suzumiya Haruhi-chan is complete garbage and I absolutely dread season 2 because of the complete willingness to suck the cocks of the audience that likes Haruhi because of the ED dance and moeblob fanservice of Mikuru, rather than the high production values and faithfulness to the absolutely wonderful novels.

  3. “I LOL’ed at Nagato singing Paradise Lost of Ga-Rei Zero, sung by none other than Chihara Minori herself.”

Oh, I didn’t know Minori Chihara was the actual singer of Paradise Lost. It makes it even funnier and I’ll keep my yuri goggles on XD

  4. ahahah Paradise Lost signing was awesome !

Also, am I the only one that some hints about a second season could be extrapolated from the “seriously animated” part in episode 6 (yeah I know this is getting old, but I can’t help but to think about it)

  5. Quaid, start the Reactor.
It’s not like they are not funny, but moderately funny and tedious to read, what with all the calorie burning and time consuming mouse-over… -ing.
It just has a bad comedy-to-effort ratio.

  6. Has anyone noticed that “Haruhi-chan” is paying more attention to Nagato than Haruhi herself? And she’s actually showing emotion like laughter and isn’t singing in monotone.

    It’s a sign of Season 2 (Vol. 4)

Nagato managed to get Mikuru as a rival. But what happens when she takes on Haruhi in going after Kyon?

  8. The captions must stay! Even if only to make up for the brevity of the reviews themselves.

Also, poor Mikuru. Even more redundant and useless now. Truly fails at being Makie Sakaki.
