As the Fall and Winter shows are finishing, here’s a preview of the Spring 2009 shows premiering next week and beyond. There aren’t quite as many new shows premiering as last fall – 28 major titles not including kiddie stuff or OVAs – but that still leaves a huge variety of shows. And for once my schedule isn’t filled with continuing series, so theoretically I can watch something new for every day of the week (unlike this past Winter season when I had almost all of the Fall shows carrying over). As usual, I’ll try to watch the first episode of as many shows as I can within certain parameters (in other words, not the kiddie shows), and what I list here are the chances of me actually blogging something based on my initial impressions from promotional material. However, even if I list the chances for a show as good or guaranteed, it doesn’t necessarily mean I’ll stick with it for more than a few episodes.

By no means does this list reflect every single anime series that is going to be aired, though I did try to be as comprehensive as I could. Check out MOON PHASE for an entire listing, syoboi’s calendar for specific air-times, and Fansub Wiki’s Spring 2009 page for who’s tentatively subbing what.

Technical Note: All times are given in a 24-hour, relative-day format where times are extended to show which day they belong to. For instance, Friday morning at 1:30AM would become Thursday at 25:30 to show that the episode aired late Thursday night.

This anime is based on the video games of the same name (also known as Devil Kings), and that in turn was based very very very loosely on 16th century Japanese history. The story follows two famous figures, Oda Nobunaga and Date Masamune, who are fighting and trying to unite Japan under their own control. The promos show quite a bit of action, which is always promising, and it’s being worked on by a Production I.G team, but something about this makes me wary. Maybe it’s because I still remember the last Capcom game made into an anime, Devil May Cry. Then again, I may still end up watching this because there are very few Wednesday shows this spring.

Queen’s Blade is about a competition to choose a beautiful queen, and all the contestants are big breasted warrior women. They threw in some tentacle monsters for good measure, making this probably the closest you can get to straight up hentai. Certainly the promos (see below) are filled with nudity and ridiculous character designs, including one character whose bra is a pair of hands formed by her hair. And given that ARMS and GENCO are producing this and AT-X is airing it, I suspect that it’ll turn out similarly to Ikkitousen: DD and GG, though it’s been announced that the AT-X version will indeed feature nudity. All this is to say that I’m not expecting this show to be very deep, however in its defense, it’s got one helluva cast, from Hirano Aya to Kawasumi Ayako to Noto Mamiko to Tanaka Rie and Kugimiya Rie. I might watch an episode of this just to see how far they push the envelope, but there are too many other potentially good Thursday shows to take this one seriously.

Also airing on AT-X Thursday mornings is a new series about a boy haunted by his (female) childhood friend. That sounds like standard fare, but the story also involves a mysterious suitcase, a destroyed world, and a dimension traveling mecha of some sort. I’m not quite sure what to make of all that, but it sounds like it has potential, and the series is based on a fairly long line of light novels. In addition, the Seven Arcs team from Inukami! and Nanoha A’s will be working on this, but I dunno if that’s a net positive or not.

From the creator of Macross Frontier comes a new series about basketball playing mecha that features shoes designed by NIKE. I know that sounds kind of silly at first, but this show has a lot going for it, including the aforementioned fact that it’s made by Kawamori Shouji. There’s also a large cast of characters who are voiced by a group that includes all three lead voice actors from Macross Frontier – Nakamura Yuuichi, Endou Aya, and Nakajima Megumi – though they’ll be in lesser roles this time around. There is a ton of promotional material for this show, and they show off some high production quality and hip-hop style music (unfortunately, no Yoko Kanno). It reminds me of a cross of Michiko to Hatchin and Gurren Lagann, and I think this has the potential to be quite good.

PandoraHearts is about a boy who gets thrown into a prison world (think twisted Alice in Wonderland) and enters into a contract with a powerful but feisty girl. After escaping, the two work together to help him figure out his sin and find her memories. Now this is a series I’ve heard a lot of good things about, but when I tried to read the manga myself, I just couldn’t get into it. There’s a strong fantasy horror aspect to this, and the anime adaptation has Kajiura Yuki working on the music, but the impression the manga left on me means that I probably won’t be watching this.

Airing directly after PandoraHearts is Kyoto Animation’s newest series about a group of girls who join their school’s music club and form a band consisting of guitar, bass, keyboard, and drums. Like Lucky Star, this is based on a 4-koma manga, and it’s going to be worked on by some of the same KyoAni staff. I doubt it’s going to be the exact same style as Lucky Star though since I suspect that this series will end up being a bit less comedy and a bit more music. The Phantom in the title of this series is the name of a young female assassin whose identity gets exposed to a seemingly normal boy, but the boy turns out to have what it takes to be an assassin himself, and this is their story. This is a series being made by Bee Train and Mashimo Kouichi, and although the plot indicates that it’s not entirely girls-with-guns, they could have fooled me with the promo and image on the official site. That promo video actually does a decent job of raising my interest in the series, however I’m still very wary of Bee Train series, so odds are that I’ll skip this.

After a year off the air, Hayate is back with a new season. If you’re a fan of the title, you’ve probably already watched the episode 0 OVA that came out earlier this month and are already reacquainted with the series. For everyone else, Hayate is a comedy about a boy who’s heavily in debt and becomes a butler for a very rich girl, and the crazy things that happen to him. The main difference between the first season and this new one is that J.C.Staff will be handling the animation production instead of SynergySP, though based on the episode 0 OVA, it still feels like the same series. That’s great if you enjoyed the first installment, but given that I didn’t find it particularly funny and dropped it because it was pretty average overall, I’m not all that eager to jump back in.

In fact, I had a really hard time finding a person I knew who watched all the episodes from beginning to end. The good thing about this second series is that it’s being made by an entirely different studio and staff – and thus has a completely different look – while the cast is still the same (including Tomatsu Haruka who seems to be getting more and more popular every season). The most recent series by famous mangaka Adachi Mitsuru, Cross Game is a mix of romance/comedy/slice-of-life and baseball. It starts with an elementary school boy who’s quite a good hitter and is close to a family of four girls, one of whom was born on the exact same day as him and more or less acts like his wife. The story jumps ahead a few years after a certain event happens (saying any more would spoil it) and progresses from junior high school to high school when that boy joins the school baseball team. I loved the first series, but I haven’t read the manga (and at this point I’m intentionally not so I don’t spoil myself), and I’m very curious to see how this new series will be different. The 26th World Masterpiece Theater title is based on a book published last year that’s an authorized prequel to the famous Anne of Green Gables (which itself was a WMT title 30 years ago). It details the life of title character Anne before she was orphaned and lived at Green Gables, and the book got some decent reviews. This being World Masterpiece Theater with its long history, I wouldn’t dismiss this as just a kids show, however at the same time, it isn’t the kind of series that I tend to watch (I didn’t tune into Cosette or Porphy either).

They’re not aware of this though, and whoever she chooses has to want her as well. Apparently there’s also some political intrigue thrown in, related to the succession of a throne. I thought the manga started out a bit slow, but it turned out to be a decent read for at least the first volume. The epic fantasy novel series Guin Saga is getting an anime adaptation by Satelight. Beginning with the story of royal twins who, after their parents were slain, get saved by a man with a leopard head named Guin, this novel series currently stretches 125 volumes plus an additional 21 volumes of side stories. It boggles my mind how much that is, and I can only assume the anime will cover but a fraction of it unless it plans to go on forever as well. The promo was interesting enough, but aside from the potential for some truly epic storytelling, I think the main draw to this show will probably be the fact that Uematsu Nobuo of Final Fantasy fame is in charge of the music. I mention them in particular because the official site is intentionally keeping their respective voice actors a secret. In any case, the series seems to have some environmental and sci-fi themes going, and the story sounds interesting enough, plus May’n is going to be singing the opening song, however I’m wary because this is a Gonzo series, and as I said above, I’m not keen on watching another one of their works right now. This is based on a Kobayashi Jin manga, but unlike School Rumble which was a school comedy with some romance thrown in, Natsu no Arashi is more of a drama and mystery with sci-fi and historical elements. Since Shinbou and SHAFT are producing this though, the comedic elements may be played up. In any case, I found the manga a little slow in the beginning, but it got more interesting as it went on. Gonzo’s third show for the spring season follows the rise of two high school girls who end up in the same mahjong club on their way to the national tournament. Although it might at first look like a light-hearted series with a lot of cute characters, this is very much a sports series about mahjong and reminds me a bit of Hikaru no Go in that regard. The manga strives to make mahjong exciting, sometimes trying a bit too hard with imaginary sequences, but it’s been a good read. I think my main problem with it and potentially with the anime as well is that I don’t know enough about mahjong and tend to easily get lost when they start talking about games. I didn’t include in the above list Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari (because it’s an OVA), the La Corda D’Oro ~secondo passo~ (because it’s only a special), Dragonball Kai (not a new series), the reairing of Suzumiya Haruhi, or any kiddie shows. Even without these, there are actually a ton of shows that I’m interested in out of the above list, with my interest highest probably for Eden of the East and Fullmetal Alchemist. My main complaint is that the vast majority of the shows are airing during the latter half of the week – especially Thursdays and Sundays – leaving few for Monday through Wednesday. Thus I might play around with the schedule if I have free time on certain days and not others, meaning that I might blog a Sunday show on Monday or something. Regardless, it should be an exciting season.

As always, comments, questions, and suggestions are welcome.

  1. hmm there were more shoes coming out than I anticipated. Cant wait to watch a few of these. All the good shows from last season are over now 🙁 hope the new season can make me 🙂

    Exia
  2. Dragonball Kai really isnt new, just remastered with new voice acting iirc. No new scenes so to blog it would be like bloging the old show really.

anyway its looking like I will be watching only 2-4 series this season

FMA and K-ON (maybe Senjou no Valkyria )

Sengoku BASARA might be decent I hope they dont make it like the US version of Devil Kings (now that was horrid)

Queen’s Blade might be decent for a laugh.

  3. Finally, was getting quite late there, given most other blogs already put the Spring Listings.. oh well, better late than never.

The similarity in Art design of Eden of the East is undeniable to Honey & clover – surprised you hyperlinked the series to Wiki, given you blogged both seasons here, …
One blogger even commented ” the second coming of Morita and Hagu” … So true.

Geez!!! Its already APRIL…. What the hell is going on… didnt we just have New Years not too long ago… freaking scary, or is it just me?
    oh well…..

  4. Most interested in Sengoku BASARA, K-ON!, Phantom, Hayate, Valkyria Chronicles, Cross Game, Fullmetal Alchemist, Tears to Tiara, 07-Ghost (I just remembered reading some of the manga years ago. It was pretty good), and Hatsukoi Limited.

I’ll be sure to at least start the following: Asura Cryin’, Basquash!, PandoraHearts, Polyphonica, Guin Saga, Shangri-la, Natsu no Arashi!, Saki and Eden of the East.

Much better variety of good-looking shows this time around.

  5. Lots of potential good series this spring, ill be watching full metal alchemist (i assume the majority will too) tears to tiara since ive played the game, KoN since key is making it and i love their works, eden of the east since the story sounds pretty interesting, hatsukoi limited for a romance/ comedy..saki and probably shangri la. ill give each series 1-2 episodes and see how it goes. not sure about the others. im contemplating guin saga but given that there are like 220 volumes, i doubt the anime will have any sense of closure.

    Precise Moment
  6. Not many of them interested me except for Fullmetal Alchemist (Guaranteed), 07-Ghost and Eden of the East (Guaranteed).
-FMA, not much to say about it since it’s a remake of the original but i’m still looking forward to it.
-07-ghost looks good, going to follow this =)
-Eden of the east really intrigued me and like Omni said, I will be loving the ED too XP

  7. Must watch:

Sengoku BASARA/ – really recommended. I don’t know how the quality will be, but this time, it is guaranteed that it will follow the game storyline, instead of going around with anime-original stuff.

Fullmetal Alchemist – two words: Manga adaptation.

07-GHOST – my favourite manga, second after FMA. OP and ED songs rawk hard. Trailer was great too.

others I will try, but don’t know if I will continue watching.

  8. What I’m interested in and hope you will blog:

Queen’s Blade. I bet this will either turn out decent despite the nudity, or it will be SO bad that it is good for a laugh 🙂 . This blog has been lacking ecchi of late anyway so I hope you blog it lol.

Full Metal Alchemist. haven’t watched the first anime, might watch this, espeically if it is even closer to the manga.

Tears to Tiara. based on a strategy rpg like Utawarerumono, animated by by same studio as Utawarerumono, if it is anything like as good as Utawarerumono (aside from the crappy ending) then it’s a winner. 🙂

Aside from those the rest don’t stand out atm for me.

    Ninja Penguin
  9. At last, Hatsukoi Limited! im glad that J.C. Staff will be producing this one. at least im sure that this will not go to waste unlike what happened to Ichigo 100%. 🙂

    whitey-chan
  10. How about Spice and Wolf II? You didn’t mention about it? What’s the news on that? Btw… I’d like to thank you for your detailed summaries all the time!
    I think I’m gonna watch:
Shangri-La – Because it looks super duper interesting.
Queen’s blade (or whatever it’s called) – just for some good old ecchi.
Kiss on my Deity – Sounds like another Kannagi?
K-ON – No reason, just because they look super cute and because it’s by KyoAni who have never disappointed me.

  11. Well, I can’t believe awesome series are coming out! I love it!

    but what’s with Eden of East? There was Korean soap opera called East of Eden that just ended two weeks ago O_o;;

    Aldotsk
  12. THX alot for always prepearing this long preview and Highly appreciate ur efforts…

Yeh,Have some really awesome anime this season !!!

15 titles are on my list for the first of try ( watching the 1st ep)

    luches
  13. I am kinda excited for this new season. I’ve been waiting for Pandora Hearts and 07-Ghost to come out for ever! Really excited about them! But, other than that, all the other shows don’t look that amazing, kinda boring really. Maybe I’ll watch Basara, but i don’t know. Oh, and I’m excited about Fullmetal Alchemist, even though I’m kinda confused on when it takes place.

    Hana
  14. lol outcast, it’s a loooooooooooooongshot for me

not saying i didn’t like ikkitousen, and taking screencaps would be an absolute cakewalk, but to blog about it just seems like… it defeats the whole purpose of the show, no?

    jaalin
  15. Thanks for the preview Omni.

I’ll be watching K-ON (partial to ‘saving the club’ theme), Tayutama (Lump of Sugar) and Saki (mahjong fan). Shangri-la looks interesting too, so I’ll probably check it out.

I’m kind of disappointed with this season actually, not as many interesting ones to me as I hoped for.

  16. Jaalin should just post screencaps with funny comments of the Queen’s Blade anime. That show doesn’t need any damn summary just screencaps and a three word summary every every week:

    “They jigglin’ baby!!!”

    Awaken
  17. Im looking forward to pandora hearts, 07-ghost and fma 🙂
I have read pandora, and that manga is really awesome, including fma and 07-ghost 🙂
for the rest, ill give it a try and then decide if i will watch any of them

    YoruAngel
  18. If the Phantom TV series is as good as the VN, it’ll def be an EXCELLENT show. Also looking forward to NnA and Hatsukoi. I could initially care less about watch FMA again.

    frubam
  19. NO FMA FOR ME.
K-On and 07-Ghost look like fun. Tayutama looks really cute, though it looks like the kind of show I’d get sick of within a few episodes and give up on. Seeing these previews only heightens by anticipation for Sasameki Koto…

    Story
  20. some good ones ill be watching don’t have time to name atm. Except for Hatsukoi Limited. Which I will Not watch cause ya the manga didn’t really fit me too many people focused on Kinda of like school rumble that lead to no where.

  21. Utawarerumono > Tears to Tiara.

Also it does not help the only saving grace I found on Tears to Tiara was the character design was something at least unique … they changed THAT for the PS3 vesrion (that I guess is what the anime is based on) that just turned then into “generic fantasy setting characters”.

This is not Utawarerumono … a lot of Utawarerumono did not depended on the sex scenes most of the comedy in Tears to Tiara I found ON the events leading to the sex scenes or AFTER said sex scenes.

    Drakron
  22. Seems exciting season.

    Will definitely watch :

    K-On!
    Basquash!
    Valkyria Chronicles
    FMA
    Shangri-La
    DB Kai
    Guin Saga
    Eden of the East
    Hatsukoi Limited

Will give it a try :

    Sengoku BASARA
    Phantom
    Asura Cryin’
    Natsu No Arashi
    Tears To Tiara
    Saki
    07-Ghost

The most excited I am about Hatsukoi Limited, Eden of The East, Shangri-La and K-On!(Lol, I addicted of KyoAni animes). xD

    TadloS
  23. Damn I hate spring seasons, I never have the time to watch anything due to all the work at the university, yet there are plenty good series. Be it Queen’s Blade for the nudity, Hayate for the lulz or FMA/Baqsuash/alotofotherseries for pure awesomeness. Damn you Japan! Seriously, there are like 20-21 series on that list I’m interested in, add to that DB Kai (oh my whole childhood just flashed before my eyes)…

    Zenzen
  24. Besides FMA, I’m really looking forward to 07-Ghost. Basquash didn’t interest me at all until I saw the commercial and thought ‘wow, this might actually be pretty cool’

I’m getting a bit tired of moe-ness, so I think K-on will be out for me but I always watch the first ep of most things ^^.

    Blue
  25. all i can say is damn. this season has a lot of good animes.

    Will see
    Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
    Hayate the Combat Butler!!

    Might see
    Tayutama -Kiss on my Deity-
    Queen’s Blade -Rurō no Senshi-
    Eden of The East
    K-ON!
    Asura Cryin’
    Pandora Hearts

  26. There was no nudity in Queen`s Blade Promos to talk about, Omni. Maybe some occasional nipple was shown, but not in sexual situations. Hope there`s more in actual anime. I can`t understand some people`s antipathy for this sort of anime. Can`t they see that it`s beautiful characters and it`s well animated? I will definitely watch this.
    More about the rest later.

  27. Okay, here`s what i plan to watch:
K-ON, Hayate no Gotoku, Arad Senki- Slap up Party , Senjou no Valkyria, Cross Game, Full Metal Alchemist, Shangri-La, Tears to Tiara,
Saki, Eden of The East and Hatsukoi Limited.
Of course i will see everything in the start of new season to see if there`s more good anime to follow, usually there`s too many good titles in the end. But i don`t think that`s a problem!

  28. Actually, K-on is much more about comedy then it actually is about music, at least so far, judging on the first 7 chapters.

Also Kai will be re-edited too, cutting into the fat so that it’ll follow the manga more closely.

    Ecchigo
  29. I would probably watch:

Pandora Heart: Haven’t read the manga yet, but I really like the preview.
07-GHOST: I don’t dig the character design much, but the story seems quite solid.
    FMA: Why? Why not!!!
Shangri-la: Interesting concept. I would love to see how it would turn out.
Ristorante Paradiso: I dig gentlemanly middle age men. ‘Nuff said.
Eden of the East: Interesting plot, interesting preview, plus I like Umino Chika’s drawing style.

Since I don’t have time to watch animes anymore, I don’t mind that much if only one or two series end up worthy of watching, but I would be happy if all in my list turn out decent.

    Kaitune
  30. Doesn’t look as promising as last fall season to me, but there’s still plenty of interesting series to look forward to.

Asura Cryin’, Pandora Hearts, K-ON!, Phantom of Inferno, Hayate, Polyphonica, Valkyria Chronicles, FMA, Tears to Tiara, Tayutama and Eden of the East are pretty much “must-watch” for me. Oh, also, I hope people give Polyphonica a second chance. The visual novel really is pretty great and hopefully the new studio can do a better job than the previous.

Wow, a lot more people than I thought are looking forward to 07-Ghost. Maybe my bad feelings about the show is just a false premonition of mine brought on by the apparent lack of women, abundance of bishounens and the resulting shounen-ai vibes. Hopefully the amount of people looking forward to it indicates that my suspicions are unfounded.

    Hamlon
  31. 07-ghost and FMA as I love both’s manga.
Will try east of eden, shangri-la… actually just about everything now that I look. But FMA and ghost are the only I’ll watch for sure.

    senefen
  32. watching for sure ;
~ basquash! (i like the unique style)
~ pandora hearts. (loved the bit of the manga i read)
    ~ k-on! ( .. kyoto animation)
~ fullmetal alchemist. (always wondered what the big deal was about it, now’s the perfect opportunity to find out)
~ eden of the east. (thanks to that awesome trailer, this is my most anticipated of the season)

    might try ;
~ asura cryin’. (might just wait for some reviews of the 1st eppie first)
~ phantom ~requiem for the phantom~. (bee train repels me A LOT)
~ senjou no valkyria. (rpg game.. idk man..)
    ~ shangri-la (gonzo..;o;)
~ tears to tiara. (i sense a lot of potential, just not sold yet)

    kresslia
  33. My list gonna be:
Queen’s Blade – Rurou no Senshi
    Asura Cryin’
    Fullmetal Alchemist
    Tayutama -Kiss on my Deity
    Tears to Tiara
    Saki
    Hatsukoi Limited

    Maybe give it a try:
    Sengoku BASARA
    Basquash!
    K-ON
    Arad Senki ~Slap Up Party
    Senjou no Valkyria
    Cross Game
    Guin Saga
    Shangri-la
    Natsu no Arashi
    07-GHOST

    The rest just sucks.

    mike
  34. Man, Saki really makes you want to pick it up despite the mahjong part now, thanks to the VAs involved. I was surprised too when I first saw the VA list. Eden of the East seems to be really hyped now by everyone, while Natsu no Arashi seems to be going the Asread way as of latest news. :\

  35. I’d like to thank everyone at Random Curiosity for their work blogging series. My Japanese is weak to say the least, so it sure is nice to have some guidance on what is going on. Cheers to you all. *(^.^)*

    Dagmar
  36. From what I’ve seen of the promo for 07-ghost it seems that it will be somewhat different from the manga, which makes me a little sad because the manga was beautiful and had a wonderful story. I can only hope that the changes are for the better and not the worse.

And to defend Pandora Hearts, I believe it is also a wonderful series. It may be a little slow in the first chapter or two but it does pick up and is quite enjoyable, if not the tiniest bit predictable however. Though Yuki Kaijura has done a wonderful job with the soundtrack as usual. If anything I would probably watch Pandora Hearts just for the music, not that I’m saying you should, of course.

  37. 26:00 is 2am, ie 2 hours after midnight. I think they take that feeling of “it’s not tomorrow until you go to sleep” and apply it to TV scheduling, so they can say a show airs on Tuesday night as opposed to Wednesday morning.

    SuperGeorge
  38. Eden of the east capture my curiosity, and the background music in the trailer page is just so beautiful not to mention the insert song in the trailer itself, here hoping a show with excellent OST and plot

    Joachim
  39. Definitely:
07-GHOST – One of my most anticipated series this season. Loved the character designs
    (What,they can’t be attractive?)
    and it looks very intriguing.

Eden of the East – The story seemed crazy at first though when I saw the trailer it
really does have an appeal to it. Chika Umino’s character designs are always lovely too. ~

Sengoku BASARA – Was going to pass it up until I saw the trailers.
It looks cool so I’m going to give it a shot.

Pandora Hearts – Liked the character designs and the story seems interesting.
Though the trailers weren’t so great,I’m still going to see it.

Fullmetal Alchemist – Watched the first anime series,it was awesome in my opinion though
the ending could’ve been better. What really disappointed me is that this is a ‘REMAKE’.
What’s the point to make this now, actually? I was really expecting it to be
a sequel. *sighs* … …..I’m still going to watch it though.

Chi’s New Address: Why wasn’t this one included?-_- Chi is adorable and so is the series.

    Maybe:
    Phantom ~Requiem for the Phantom~
    Hanasakeru Seishounen
    Gokujou!! Mecha Mote Iinchou
    Shin Mazinger Shougeki! Z-Hen

*might add more to this list

Basquash!: Ugh,when I saw the trailer for it..it immediately reminded me
of a Gurren Lagann ‘wannabe’ trying to make it look all tough and ‘badass’.
I’ve never liked CG robots because they just look so out of place which wasn’t a part I
    really favored in Macross Frontier.
Even the name is lame so no go.

    Harem/Hentai/Moe/Whatever series are just fail.

    Amu
  40. Saki
    Hatsukoi Limited
    Tayutama
    Valkyrie Chronicles
    Queens Blade

    I better check on K-On

I have to consume my Power over Electric Bills due to economic crisis and my last Earth Hour

    cutemi2
  41. About Polyphonica, I heard it will be an adaptation of the actual game novels so I think it will be quite good so you should give it a higher chance.

    Anyway, awesome season.

Hayate, Tears To Tiara, K-On, FMA, 07-Ghost, Pandora Hearts, Tayutama, HIgashi No Eden, Natsu No Arashi, Hatsukoi Limited, Polyphonica, Valkyria, Asura Crying, and a couple others. Definitely good season to me.

    Silver
  42. Tayutama certainly looks very interesting from the preview and Senjou no Valkyria is good and Fullmetal is a must.

Valkyria and Fullmetal should be blog as soon as they air or OMNI has time…

I’m interested in seeing how Queen’s Blade goes, a very huge cast plus huge boobs and nudity, I’m doubting the character design though….

    Lobotomy
  43. you know a character in Senjou no Valkyria……..you know what you’ll have to watch and find out yourself i was just a little shocked in the game on how it happened to her

    asian182
  44. Queen’s Blade is interesting because of the voice cast. :V The premise is one I haven’t seen in awhile, and I can deal with the nudity, lol, as it’s like Sekirei, which I’m still waiting for the 2nd season. ._. As for others, I’ll see them as they air. 😀

    Lelouch
  45. Just saw Eden of the East, looks pretty good. FMA is a must watch and despite it being Gonzo, I’ll probably watch Shangri-La. K-On is on my list because it’s KyoAni and Queen Blade too for the tits and laughs. I’m ambivalent about 07-Ghost as the character designs aren’t my cup of tea and like Omni, I wish some other studio was doing it. I expect Tears to Tiara to be bad but the premise sounds interesting.

    Jarmel
  46. Fullmetal Alchemist, and East of Eden are going to be epic. Guin Saga’s production values and plot seem poised on achieving epicness as well, but I concur with Omni, the legendary Nobou Uematsu’s first anime effort in music should be something for the ages. Bring on the season!

    Sakurakamina
  47. Hmm… it’s weird how there’s someone else (page 3) who comments under the same name as me despite very few people actually using their first name. Plus his opinion is the exact opposite to mine.

    Mark
  48. I thought both dogs and spice and wolf were supposed to be this season but I guess not =( Shangri-la looks promising though. I guess I’ll watch K-on too… And Hatsukoi since I read the manga……

    jellayrei
  49. OMG SCHOOL FOOD PUNISHEMENT IS DOING ENDING OF EDEN OF THE EAST 😀 SO watching it ;D

    um other than that probably
    K-ON
    FMA
Basquash…though im not so fond on sports anime…neither am i on mecha >_>

    Zetsuboushita
  50. I’m excited (in a double entendre kind of way) for Queen’s Blade. Looks like a potentially decent season; particularly because I only picked up Soul Eater and Gundam 00 S2 last round.

    Cheshire Lion
  51. Anyway, of course I will watch a lot of the series like I posted before but to support some of the anime, I got to say

    PANDORA PANDORA WEEE!
    POLYPHONICA WHEE!

Ok, time to get back to work…

    Silver
  52. Will definitely be watching:
    FMA
    Pandora Hearts
    Hayate 2
    K-ON
    Senjou no Valkyria
    Shangri-La
    Saki
    Tayutama -Kiss on my Deity
    Natsu no Arashi!
    Eden of the East

I may try watching Asura Cryin’ and Hatsukoi Limited too.Queen’s Blade looks like the typical ecchi type so I may watch it for the cast.

  53. Ill be watching FMA
East of Ededn looks like it could be pretty good, but there’s very little info so. . .
Ive pretty much given up on anything by Gonzo but Shangri-la might haven enough other people working on it to be good

    ender650
  54. So far…

K-ON (Definitely! Love KyoAni and the characters share the same resemblance to Kananagi’s)

Eden of the East (Oh hell yeah, and it’s Production IG, they haven’t let me down in the past.)

Valkyria Chronicles (I’m a sucker for these kind of stories and have a love for SRPGs because the stories are very good.)

Asura Cryin’ (Looking forward to this, seems like an interesting story.)

Fullmetal Alchemist (Saw the 2005 one and I’m always curious about remakes, so I’m going to watch this and TRY my hardest not to compare it to the 2005 version..)

  55. Eden of the East -> OMG! Man that looks so good! Naked guy out of nowhere and the mentioning of GiTS is enough to pull me in. Nice.

Very few good show though, kind of disappointed.

    AnotherGeek
  56. it is funny hearing people going all over the place, “this season looks great, will be watching ……(goes on to list like 8 shows)” or “eh, i’ll watch, (names one show) but the rest dont look too good, disappointing season”. personally, i think this upcoming season should be pretty good. i really want to watch East of Eden, Shangri-la (range Murata character designs ftw), and FMA, and then there are plenty of shows that i would like to look into (Asura Cryin piqued my interest)

    GGear0323
  57. as for Queen’s blade, all i have to say is, for the one chick who puts the giant slab of metal right over her breast/nipple……. ouch, why would you do that. completely pointless and just….. ugh.

    GGear0323
  58. #1 choice: Eden of the East
    Completely surprised by this.

I love the soundtrack so far. It’s always a pleasant surprise when you catch American songs in Japanese trailers (Oasis – “Falling Down”).

What a completely absurd twist. The art style screams josei at me… I can’t seem to fathom it. Mind-blowing.

    Renn
  59. Well with alot of anime series coming in: Watch three or four shows and it sucks we don’t have any Science Fiction anime, between aliens, humans and demons. Seriously can we see an anime between Aliens and Humans and possibly Demons.

Following anime that are must watch:

    Eden of the East
    Valkyria Chronicles
    Queens Blade
    Natsuo no Arashi
    Fullmetal Alchemist:Brotherhood

    Highman
  60. Notice how almost all pictures consists of girls!

Sucks you may not do Pandora Hearts 🙁 I’ve been waiting for it along with 07 Ghost. I can’t understand much 07 Ghost because of the drawing xD There are a few anime I may look into too.

    Tan-Tan
  61. I’ll admit that I came here to read your Bleach coverage (as well as your thoughts on other shows that I’d just recently seen like Blood+, Haruhi Suzumiya and Gundam 00) but I look forward to the spring line up. I’ll be following your thoughts on the Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Guin Saga and your continued interest in Bleach. To a lesser degree I’ll probably also do my own blogging on my given website, but it’s limited to first impressions, plot analysis and reviews.

I’ve been reading your thoughts for a year now and Random Curiosity one of my favorite anime blogs. I enjoy referring others to it via my own blog and word of mouth when I can. 😀

  62. Oh I’m disappointed you gave Pandora Hearts a rating of ‘poor’. I love the anime and I think it’s worth watching. Although the manga doesn’t make all that sense I must admit but the anime is clearer. I think it’s worth watching but then again it might just be to my liking~

Is anyone else finding Suzumiya Haruhi’s repetitive episodes quite annoying? I hope we don’t have much more of this Endless Eight stuff ):.

    Also I don’t like FMA too much…
    07-Ghost looks interesting
