As expected, there was a new episode of Haruhi today, Endless Eight, and with it came a new OP: Super Driver by Hirano Aya. As you might know, I’m not a very big fan of hers when it comes to singing (bad memories of LOVE GUN still linger), and this didn’t really change my opinion any, but regardless of whether or not you like her music, the animation that goes with it still a fun watch.

  1. Arcs listed chronologically:
    Bamboo Leaf
    Mysterique Sign
    Lone Island Syndrome
    Disappearance of Suzumiya Haruhi

With Lone Island Syndrome being ep10 and ep11, and ep12 being Endless Eight, does this mean they skipped the Disappearance arc and the whole of volume four? :<

It was *easily* the best one. Endless Eight wasn’t bad – will be interesting to see how they’ll portray Nagato as bored – but the Disappearance was just epic. Epic, I say.

  2. If last season’s Hare Hare Yukai dance promoted otakus to dance in the streets, then maybe this season’s Super Driver will promote otakus to jog through the streets.

    Exercising ftw XD

  3. Seeing the content of my physics classes in the new Haruhi OP ? Sweet… (last one had more Chemistry than Physics I think).

Anyway, I love it; quite catchy and upbeat, I could even dare to say it’s more catchy than the first one, but that’s a matter of opinion.

  4. You can tell they’ve designed this one in a way that it is familiar to fans of eroge with it’s still imagery and colourful style (Kyoani has been doing the names under the character opening for a while now), but has just enough gimmicky movements that mimic dance (footaps, shoulder shrugs etc.) that niconico can still make parody vids out of it. In short it’s basically the K-On opening with less going on animation wise.

  5. Hmm… Initially I found this new OP to be a bit underwhelming… I wonder why?

On the other hand it feels like it would make for a good animation for those strange screen-tapping-to-the-music games you find on the Nintendo DS… >.>

  6. This is a reasonably good OP. There are a ton that say “Well, it’s not better than the original 1st OP”.

Hey, at least we have a 2nd Season.

The OP and EDs are good. Though may not be as super catchy and the dances aren’t apparent here.

    Still great nonetheless.

    Awesome.
  7. Wow, there’s a lot of really angry people here.

Go fuck yourselves, angry people. Seriously. It’s just a fucking television show.

No need to take it so fucking seriously.

  8. Oh noes, despair. While my opinion is that this OP may not be as catchy as the original run’s, I think it’s better than many others aired recently. The comic-book styling is pretty cool. I don’t know what to think about this “dance,” though.

  9. JR has his names wrong. The next arc is the Grief of Haruhi Suzimiya, then we get some old episodes and a filler episode, then we get the dissapearance, and then we get the last episode. (At least as I understand it)

  10. NOt as good as the first OP, but a fun one anyway. And the mini-dance is fun too!
Not I’m not much of a fan of her music, I even bought her cd and the Haruhi concert to support, but some of the songs are just so… ugh. Especially some of the songs in the concert! She was waaaaay too flat FOR THE WHOLE SONG!?
