Summary:

A certain surge causes the drones keeping Hei in place to overload, and at the urging of Mao, Suou tackles Hei into the icy waters nearby. Their would-be captors, Shizume Genma and Hazuki Mina, come too late to stop them, but they do finish off August 7. Sometime later, Hei wakes up from a dream about Yin to find himself alone with Suou, and he instinctively restrains her. Suou still wants to know why he killed her father and why everyone is looking for Shion, and in her anger she accuses him of being the kind of person who’d kill a loved one without hesitation. This leads to Hei slapping her, and Suou laments how everything in her life got so messed up so quickly. She eventually cries herself to sleep, and afterward, Mao has a chat with Hei. Mao survived the Tokyo incident because his memory gets regular backups, and after he reveals that he’s working now under the same woman that Hei is, he explains that he’s come to convey a change of orders.

Suou wakes up sometime the next day to the sound of her cell phone ringing, but Hei breaks the phone because he knows it’s their enemy trying to track them. In the process, he knocks open Suou’s bag, and Suou notices an origami whale inside her mother’s photobook. Written on the whale is a note from Shion saying that he’ll be waiting, and since it was stuck between two pictures of buildings in Ikebukuro, Hei realizes that that’s where they need to go. He and Suou escape from their hiding place before the Russians can move in, and Hei leads her to the train station. While he distracts the guards, Suou heads towards the train, but she’s stopped by Tanya who is after the reward and status for catching her. Hei jumps in to help, however he’s unable to use his powers and has to retreat from Tanya’s locust swarm. During a break in the action, he decides to entrust Suou with Mao and heads off to face the guards again. As it turns out, Mao has taken over the body of Suou’s pet squirrel, and he leads Suou to a hiding spot.

Meanwhile, things get even more chaotic when Genma and Mina show up to slaughter a bunch of the soldiers, crash a train, and cause a giant fuel explosion. Despite the shock of all this, Suou is still mindful enough to try to stop Tanya from trying to finish off Hei, and their conversation is interrupted by the arrival of an injured Nika who Tanya had earlier used to track down Suou. Suou can only watch as Tanya sends her locusts against Nika, killing him, and something finally snaps inside of her. Wanting all Contractors to die, Suou’s own Contractor powers activate, and a giant rifle emerges from her pendant. Using this rifle, Suou’s first shot knocks down Tanya, her second one takes out all the locusts by engulfing them in an explosion, and her subsequent shots are aimed towards Genma and Mina, though neither gets taken down. July is actually nearby, directing each of Suou’s shots, but Suou hesitates when he points her towards Tanya again. Hei finally comes in to stop her, and the rifle disappears as she loses consciousness. As he picks her up and leaves, Hei gets July to come with them.

At around this same time, in a police station on the island of Hachijou, Misaki is on the phone with Kanami about the disappearance of BK-201, but Kanami thinks that Misaki made a mistake and that she should give up on Hei and look for a new man. Misaki, however, refuses to let it go and calls up her old subordinate Saitou to ask him about it, but unfortunately he can’t talk about Contractors with her, especially not since she was exiled. He does warn her though about a certain organization called Agency No. 3, and as if on cue, a member of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications shows up in Misaki’s office. This man reveals that the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications is a front for Agency No. 3, and their goal is the extermination of the remnants of the Syndicate. He really gets Misaki’s attention by asserting that BK-201 is not dead and that she can’t reach him from where she is now, and he wants her to join him. Meanwhile, on a boat somewhere, Mao asks Hei what happened to Yin. Hei starts talking about her, but he pauses mid-sentence and then declares that he’ll kill “that woman.” Nearby, Suou is folding origami as part of her remuneration.

Wow, uh, Suou’s Contractor power was pretty cool, but there’s something quite amusing about seeing a huge-ass rifle emerge from her pendant. That thing’s gotta be at least as big as she is, and the way they animated it made it seem even bigger. What was actually most surprising about that scene though was that July showed up so suddenly and was directing her, like he was getting revenge for the death of August 7. It looks like he’ll finally be getting some character development, though I’m not sure I like the fact that he’s essentially going to be Yin’s replacement in this new team. That being said, it is kind of funny to think about how Hei now has to work with two children and a flying squirrel.

Speaking of which, it feels kind of wrong to keep calling him Mao if he’s going to keep that body. At least his personality hasn’t changed, and I laughed at the scene where he leads Suou around, though that was in large part because of the odd choice of music. His conversation with Hei earlier in the episode also raised some questions about who the woman they refer to is, and I wonder if it’s the same person who Hei talks about killing at the end of the episode. On that note, I should point out that what Hei said at the end of the episode can be interpreted either as him wanting to kill Yin (which seems unlikely) or the woman who caused whatever happened to Yin. If the series really is going to be only a single season, I’m sure it’ll get cleared up soon enough.

I was also glad to see that the group is headed back to Tokyo and that Misaki is getting back into the thick of things thanks to Mr. Golgo 13. I wonder if she’ll end up working with Genma and Mina or if she’ll be her own faction again. Either way, I’m really enjoying the series so far and am hoping for more good things to come.

  1. Poor Nika. That is not a pleasant way to die.

I refuse to believe that Hei intends to kill Yin, because it makes absolutely no sense. Maybe the woman they’re all working for is the short-haired blonde in the purple dress, the one who has the same voice as Brita from the original series?

  2. awesome episode esp how suou became a contractor. i think it has something to do with hei’s abilities, from last season i think his abilities allow him to turn people into contractors.
but i agree, we need more yin!

  3. BK-201’s ability is to quantumly change matter, which means, he can change genetics of people and turn them into contractors if he wants to. He can also pull alchemy tricks without alchemic circles, though he prefers to just move electrons and produce high enough currents to kill people with (because it’s so much simpler).

As for Suou’s ability, I felt it looked a bit mahou shoujo-ish, minus the costume change and with added ‘summon anti-tank rifle’. Also, I thought she was going Moratorium until Hei stopped her from shooting Tanya. Contractors can have emotions, as evidence by Amber pining over Hei, Wei feeling humiliated and Breta feeling regret over the death of her baby. They just leave emotions well away from their decision making.

  4. The bloody anti-tank gun is only 38lbs but something like that coming out of a pendant is just crazy. Other than that silliness, I love how this is getting interesting very fast. We didn’t get even one horrible low period of boredom in the first series & I’m glad they’re taking that route with this one, so far.

On a lighter note, that squirrel mess is just too funny. Hopefully they won’t stick with that for too long – even though I know that’s a pipedream 😛

  5. @xcswmboy: One way, if not the only one, is to go near hell’s gate, which I’m sure is what Hei has in mind when he gets to Tokyo. It is just the same as what happened with havoc back in season 1.

    Wiru BK-201
  6. This means that Suou might be new BK201 and also the woman (I dont know her name) with the twins said the end was coming July said the same thing too maybe that is the women Hei plans to kill. I guess we say at this point Misaki is way obsessed with finding BK201 that shes probably willing to join the MAIC.

  7. From the official site’s characters page, it looks as if the squirrel is called Petya (Pe-chiya). Thanks to Mincemaker for that info about Hei and also emotions. I understand the concern about the mahou shoujo feel, but it didn’t bother me, or even occur to me, as it happened. The atmosphere is so different. I loved this ep.

  8. the squirrel theme song was cool and the contractor transformation of suou was way cool, loved the eyes.

Just when i thought seras was my only chick with big guns and kickass skills i get chibi underaged nearly moe girl with massive weapon materialization skills on the scale of Mahou Shoujo Lyracal Girl Nanoha-chan

Hyperbole? Yes. Had to be said though? Very much indeed it did.

    agree

i like Suou, and her contractor power is col, and that will be interesting to watch, but it fucking sucks that Hei’s power got transferred to her, and if it didn’t where that fuck is it.

  10. wow mao shouldn’t even be called mao anymore as he isn’t a cat anymore lol… in Chinese mao=cat ^^ instead he should be called “su” or song su XD

anyway i don’t understand why they finished off August i thought they were on same team but meh lol

  11. I find it cool and odd at the same time on how Suou’s contractor power turned out. Summoning a big sniper rifle out of her chest seemed a bit weird. At least her performence was cool and satisfying, she even got herself a spotter in which case is July.

  12. Hei straight jacked fools before he even had his quantum powers. I enjoyed the shock and annoyance on his face when he couldn’t electrocute people. He’s been on easy-mode for too long, I won’t mind seeing a couple episodes of him ghosting people from the shadows. We all know he’ll get his powers back.

The music in this episode was fantastic, particularly the song playing during the Hei/Mao conversation. The Euro Trance for the Flying Mao scene was fitting. Nika died like Cyclops from X-Men III, which is to say as a complete punk bitch. Suou’s SS2 Magical Girl transformation was nicely animated, they even threw in some Senbonzakura petals for added flare . Suou in contractor mode is an improvement over her constant loud crying. At least in contractor mode she cries silently.

Continuity question, shouldn’t Hei know July from season 1,

  13. Omni: “On that note, I should point out that what Hei said at the end of the episode can be interpreted either as him wanting to kill Yin (which seems unlikely) or the woman who caused whatever happened to Yin.”

Sorry, but he said he’s out to kill Yin.

“Ore wa Yin wo……ano onna wo korosu.”

He switched out “Yin” for “ano onna” to show contempt. And this form of line is used a lot in anime, even to hte point of being cliche as pointed out by others.

“Ore wa [insert name] wo………..ano otoko/onna wo korosu.”

So yes, he’s saying he’s going to kill Yin.

And it’s plenty likely under the right conditions, which aren’t hard to meet.

    Shinji103
  14. Bah, dang my itchy cliker finger.

Anyway, as I intended to put in my last post, it’s plenty likely that he’s out to kill Yin under the right circumstances.

For example, Yin might be under the influence of someone or something, and Hei feels that he has no choice but to kill her; his contempt shown in that particular line at the end of this episode could be just his way of trying to convince himself to stay on the track.

This would also explain his current lifestyle; just as Tomoya in Clannad After Story became a heavy-smoking bum and left Ushio in the care of Nagisa’s parents in his depression over Nagisa’s death, Hei here has become a bum, emo drunkard because he’s depressed due to thinking he has to kill Yin and not being able to save her.

If so, I would expect Suou to help him get out of this funk and save her.

    Shinji103
  15. Hei never met July, so he doesn’t know July and his connections with the MI:6 duo.

And perhaps the highlights of this season will be how Hei earned his notoriety as Kuro no Shinigami when his sister is still BK201.

    Mincemaker
  16. I got a shock after hearing that Hei wanted to kill “that woman”. It’s mysterious since the line before she mentioned Yin and him, then pauses and said he will kill “that woman”. I hope “that woman” Hei was refering to isn’t Yin. If it is, it would be essentially similar to what took place in the first season where Hei is hunting for Amber…

    Tandem
  17. The gun/rifle that Sou uses doesn’t seem to be anything special; unless of course the bullets she materializes from her pocket are anti-contractor type.

I would have preferred something more unique than something that seems so abundant in everyday life.

    genesis
  18. Hmm…No way at this point in time to know if Hei is actually referring to Yin or not, but i highly doubt it. Although i admit Suou’s rifle is badass and all, but i feel kinda gypped how they made Suou useful by turning her into a contractor. I guess this is one of the ways to answer her questions about contractors she spouted out at the beginning of the ep (and to make her stop bitching). Plus, even if Hei doesn’t have his shocky powaz, he can still kick ass, just less flashy and efficient.

  19. @Happiness

For Hei, contractor powers are a bonus. Apparently, back in Heaven’s Gate in Argentina, Hei had been killing contractors as a normal human using nothing but martial arts skills, grappling wire and his dagger. It was his sister who was electrocuting masses of people at the time.

    Mincemaker
  20. Hopefully, they will show us how Hei earned the title: “Black Reaper”. Props on the happy tune when Mao reappear.

I don’t think Hei’s power got transfer to Suou ’cause if that did happened, BK-201’s star wouldn’t have disappear. I think its got to do more with the pendant she’s wearing since it DID react with whatever that machine was that Hei got trapped in. It’s nice to know that July is with them; since he’s pretty much got no more friends alive.

    @Happiness
Hei ain’t useless. I mean he was involved in the Contractor War and he is THE Black Reaper.

    @dbreak
Did you watch the first season? November 11 has blonde hair and he’s dead–meaning not coming back.

Oh and also to add the whole Contractors don’t have emotions. The reason being is that they make rash decisions that will complete the mission or help themselves. They’re really just super selfish, just like how Tanya wanted to secure a higher position. While a normal human will actually think through on what the hell they’re doing and then take action.

    In-n-Out-Nowhere
  21. Suou became a contractor to understand about what a contractor is.
Hei who reverted back into a human by losing his contractor power will get back his humanity side (goodness, he had become noneless like a bum and a hobo). It’s a bit irony when the last ep, he told Suou that he’s a contractor, but we all knew that he wasn’t really a contractor in season 1. And now by losing his contractor power, he becomes the only human in the team.
Hei’s power had probably done something to Suou’s bracelet that activated and made Suou as a contractor. If Hei’s power was transferred into Suou, then Suou is unlikely the new BK-201. Maybe, that’s why the power comes to her when she thought that she wanted to kill all contractors. (Hei was the same the first time when he became the contractors) Besides her powers can create thing out of nowhere, just like Hei’s power. If it just come purely by the bracelet which was activated by Hei’s electric gained Suou’s power, then where else Hei’s power went? I want his power back. Because I want to see him electrode people in the face. Hei will struggle a little bit when he lost his own because he can’t finish thing fastly as he likes.
Suou’s power (the tank rifle) gave her a far fighting range while Hei who lost his power will probably fight in close combat range. A good combination.
Hei and Mao worked for “Her”, not CIA, Hei betrayed and ran away again. LOL.
Mao is a flying squirrel is so lulz. He’s even better than the time he was a cat.
Woa, July. I knew it that you will join Hei’s team. Oddly in the team, there’re 2 children who wants to revenge on him because their beloved had been killed by him. This team is all messed up, but I expected the character development from them.
July knew something about Suou’s power… or what it seemed to be… so are the woman together with the loli twin… (I wonder if that woman have the power of prophesy the future) I wonder if she is the woman that Hei & Mao was working for. If so, then she likely toyed with Mr. Smith of the CIA which was betrayed by Hei.
Misaki is back on action. Yeah.
Somebody should stop Hei’s constant drinking. Hei’s last line is really a plot twist in this season. If it was Yin that Hei’s going to kill… here comes the angst. If it wasn’t then there’s more mysteries need to be solved.

  22. Does anyone know that song they played starting from when Lord Squirrel jumped into Suou’s face? They had played part of it already in episode one and I find it rather catchy.

  23. @In-n-Out-Nowhere

Contractors can be apparently emotionless, but they can have feelings too.. The formation of the Evening Primrose is apparently caused by the contractors’ own will, not from orders of an organization or such.. And one prime example of a contractor with a heart would be Amber and I do think that she is a full/true contractor 🙂

    nbamaniac
  24. Am i the only one who thinks that blonde girl that is always seen speaking with Mr. Smith might be Brita? they are identical and i’m sure Brita survived the 1st season and i haven’t checked the credits so i’m not sure just saying they look alike.

  25. I don’t think I’ll ever see Mao the same way again.. O.o *twitches* =.= *sees Mao talking seriously out of the squirrel’s cute little happy face* *tries to take the scene seriously* *ends up falling on the floor, laughing, because it’s just surreal*

As for that “I’ll kill that woman, Yin”… Now, I really am curious as to how that came about. O__o Did Yin go to the dark side or something!? With Hei, we know she is “far away”….

Also, yeah.. Still hope Suou, despite her new-found hate for Contractors, can smack some real reality sense into Hei. “Hobo drunkard” Hei has gotta go somewhere!

(Meh.. I’m not a fan of fanservice, as I’m a girl, but eh… At least that was a brief scene.. Grr… Hopefully, it doesn’t show up in the fourth episode. Any more of these awkward Hei x Suou scenarios are gonna make me send a rocket to Tokyo.)

  26. Looks more like her power is to “trace” an object she envisions, notice she summoned the rifle after imaging it in her mind because she had seen it previously, and was familiar with rifles from her time hunting. Feeling as contractors should disappear, she probably felt that such a weapon would be a good tool to get the job done.

For those interested in the gun, it’s the Soviet PTRD-41 (http://www.antitank.co.uk/russian1.htm). It is, indeed, taller than a man.

  27. @Shinji103

My first impression is similar to yours, when i first heard Hei. Was wondering why Hei wanted to kill Yin. Then i saw Omni’s comments and realised that the producers probably just wanted to hype up the ambiguity. Now i’m leaning towards another woman, perhaps the Madame.

    Sad for Nika though.

  28. Lol. Poor Hei, backed only by two kids and a flying squirrel. And he’s got drinking problems to boot. Cue bad movie references (“Are we there yet?” “I’ve got to use the bathroom!” “These nuts suck!”)

If I may ask a question- with Nikka dead (friggin dumbass wouldn’t have lasted long anyways), Tanya a bitc*, and the fourth friend (forgot her name) out of commission, why do the waste all that time showing them in the OP? We could’ve had more Hei in that much time!

    Zero
  29. In the preview, someone is pointing a gun at Hei if it is Suou then that means July only joined him to manipulate Suou besides we don,t know who July works and all his comrades are dead he is the only left or maybe because he might have killed her father.

    ROMAN
  30. lol a bitchin child wielding a conjurable huge caliber badass rifle is a good enough contractor for me… XD

And Hei killing contractors w/o his powers would be cool too… Like what others say, I’m quite excited to see the infamous Black Reaper of the Heaven’s Gate conflict..

And i dont care much about the OP.. It simply focuses on the bright life that Suou used to have since she’s the heroine of the series so far.. Love both the OP and ED though… Stereopony and Abingdon Boys School ftw! I just hope they would make it 24 eps just like the 1st season, but well… 🙁

  31. @DtBfan

That rifle happens to have a monstrous recoil. Most humans are unable to use this rifle without breaking a few bones, and those Soviets who actually used and fired the rifle have the body build of a Space Marine (if you don’t know what a Space Marine looks like, google Warhammer 40k) and even then, they have to lie prone on the ground to make sure the recoil doesn’t knock them back and break a few bones.

Suou, however, is a little girl wielding a rifle notorious for its firepower and bone-breaking recoil. And she is firing it so easily on the hip without feeling much recoil at all! A little girl firing a huge rifle with enough recoil to break the bones of giants, on the hip!

    Mincemaker
  32. it’s a bit on the downside since Hei can’t use his power anymore, i was hoping they will fill the gap with Suou new power, you know with all the explosion and death to provoke her, turn out to be a riffle……well, the power is destructive, but it’s not as flexible as Hei does…..anyway,it’s worth waiting for the real deal, since there so many annoying people and freakin Contractor chasing over them…..

    treble89
  33. July as it seems is with Section 3 on a crusade to eliminate all contractors, using Suou as primary weapon. Is Section 3 transnational with detachments from MI6, CIA, and who knows else? Russians as usually work only for themselves.
Hei lost his power, but is alive hence blackout of his star instead of falling.
Syndicate of rogue contractors is probably the agency behind pervert stone controller, and lightsaber/kiss samurai-ko. Or so I think.
All of this is probably a preliminary asessment of factions, and loyalties can change over time :3
Alas , poor Nika… Made me want to kill Tanya at the moment too. Its surprising it was BK-201 that stayed Suou’s vengeful rifle… OTOH is it Tanya’s fault that she became contractor? Can we blame a rattlesnake for having poison fangs?
Also I loled @ return of the Mao in the body of squirrel – making me wonder if he was there in the bathtub scene in 1st episode already…
The magical-girl like sequence with PTRD emnerging from pendant was a bit out of place, but as someone put, sufficiently advanced tech is undistinguishable from magic.
And I always liked small girls with big guns.

    ewok
  34. Aside from conjuring her anti-tank rifle and being a crackshot with it, maybe being able to shoot it on the hip without any recoil (magic rifle?) is also part of Suou’s contractor abilities? That said, I like the fact that July was acting as her spotter (most professional snipers are part of teams, a fact that escapes most TV shows and movies showing lone gunmen). But I didn’t really care for how the rifle just appears out of nowhere like something out of a Sailormoon transformation.

Still, I like Suou’s renumeration for her ability (I had the exact same idea and was wondering why it was never used in the show before, meanwhile the kissing one has been done twice with two different characters).

Nika, he should have taken the hint and just left well enough alone. Bad way to go. Tanya does look very glompable in her new uniform though so I don’t really blame Nika in the end, heh.

As for Mao, glad he’s back but making him a flying squirrel does give me Samurai Champloo flashbacks. The addition of July to the team is pretty cool. I just hope Hei is talking about someone else when referring to wanting to kill some woman.

I do have to admit that the musical score has been pretty good so far. I was afraid with the absence of Yoko Kanno that the soundtrack would suffer but that hasn’t been the case at all. The song that plays during Hei and August 7th’s fight was particularly good. (A shame they killed off the magician so quickly, but the blonde woman and the loligoth twins give some hope for badass villains so we’ll see; Wei still remains my fave contractor outside of Hei).

    Raika
  35. edit: Evening Primrose was the rogue contractors organization, syndicate wanted extermination of all contractors… I am getting lost in this melee-a-trois, sorry. Who is and what objectives pursues Section 3?
False flag recruiting abounds as Mao convinces Hei they are working for someone else than CIA.
CIA, FSB, MI6 are 100% sure to be involved. Section 3 gets scary introduction by Kirihara’s ex-subordinates, so I expect them to be really bad guys, even by “black and darker than black” morality standards…
Still the series makes great fun for me maybe because of all the mind-wrenching speculations.

    ewok
  36. I dont think Suou’s abilities are “gun summoning jutsu!”, but rather that necklace she carries (its a meteor fragment right?) “fulfills” her desires/wishes of some sort.
Last episode she learnt about the rifle from Nika, and how powerful it was. She wanted to kill Contractors, who are supernatural humans that dont easily. Her mind probably (uncounciously) processed “Kill Contractors=Normal guns arent enough; need something more powerful.” She “desired” something powerful enough to kill Contractors, and so the meteor fragment gave her the rifle she had just known about.

    damian
  37. the lame thing is hei isnt even like a main character in this shit its all about suou so far.

ALSO if a cat would make him lose his human side without refreshing data how in the hell is a squirrel good enough?

    rofl
  38. @Mincemaker: Ya, It’s true what you said, contractors does have emotions, but unlike humans, they will not let their own emotions control them and let them think irrationally. So they will always choose the most logical and rational choices. However, there are those contractors that dont have emotions: Moratorium and Dolls. Dolls I believe are contractors as well, those that have either gone past Moratorium or those whose went straight to being emotionless and began to act as a medium.

This episode is very interesting, did Suou become a contractor due to the meteor incident 2 years ago and was triggered by Hei? Or was it Hei who indirectly turned Suou into a contractor (since he lost control of his abilities and Suou’s meteor fragment reacted to it)?

Also besides from the long ridiculously made anti-material rifle coming out of Suou’s pendant, did Hei never stop and thought about the pendant being the dam “Meteor core”! I mean come on! It’s the only thing that stands out from Suou when he was molesting her, oops no I mean checking on her. I thought it was pretty stupid of Hei to not notice or realize it lol, dam it Hei you gotta stop drinking and stop being wasted! I don’t want Hei to look like a Hobo for the remainder of the series lol, that would suck! I can accept the wild long hair style look that Hei has, but not the dam beard and drinking! It completely degrades his image, contrary to him looking like a complete naive and kind idiot (as Li) was a lot better.

    X
  39. @pierce: if you haven’t noticed, in every arc in the first series, there is always one character that dies lol. So I wouldnt be surprised in the fact that someone will die in each and every episode in this second season (so long as it doesnt include the major characters, ie. Hei, Misaki, Mao, and Yin – the rest can die and I wouldn’t care lol)

    X
  40. I totally agree w/ damian’s theory about suou’s powers… Kinda noticed it too..

    @X:
I don’t think dolls and contractors are the same thing.. The thing they do have in common though is their APPARENT lack of emotion… And as always, there will always be exemptions to the rule. Dolls acting on their own and having emotions exist too.. Examples would be the doll at the 1st 2 episodes (protected Hei even when the doll’s memories were erased), the doll at the Yakuza-ish episode (when she smiled at the train), and Yin ofc (love that part when she forced a smile w/ her fingers and when he hugged Huang goodbye)…

My understanding so far (hope i didn’t get a wrong idea of any of these) :

Contractors – have powers and has some sort of renumeration for using those.. Their usual primary roles are to become assassins of organizations whether gov’t or private..

Dolls – used as mediums different uses such as locating others, storage of another person’s memories, and other things concerned w/ espionage…

Moratoriums – also have powers but they have no control over it and they also have no renumeration…

Regressors – the one like Havoc in the 1st season.. former contractors who have their powers stripped due to some unknown reason..

    nbamaniac
  41. @X

I did mention that contractors keep emotions out of the way when they are deciding on something. As for meteor fragment, Hei probably isn’t entirely sober I admit. I mean, that’s obviously a meteor fragment!

And Hei HAS to look like a hobo. Haven’t we learnt ANYTHING about Hei? When Hei is cleanly shaved and had a haircut, women fell for him like flies! The total number of women not attracted to Hei in season 1 was a grand total number of 3! If Hei stops looking like a hobo in season 2, then we will be forced to sit through another 10 episodes of Suou crushing over Hei.

    Mincemaker
  42. My theories on contractors. The initial cost for their star to form (forming of the contract) is their emotions. It may be not that they lose them, but they lose the ability to act on them. It seems the longer they are contractors the higher chance they have of regaining emotions or perhaps its the better they are at faking emotions the higher chance for them to experience them.

Suou’s necklace is likely the meteor shard (fallen star) that Hei is looking for. Keep in mind that this is essentially a dead contractor’s contract. Hei’s power likely brought the star back to life with Suou as the contractor, meaning she has no star in the sky and is actually carrying it with her.

I think that unknown group is actually after Hei, not Suou and is section 3 (they were studying ‘the professor’s’ theory). Not sure how they will play out but section 3 might actually be ‘The Agency’ in disguise. It looks like Misaki will join their group hunting them down, although I can see he changing sides easy enough.

At the very least they no longer can track Hei via his star unless he gets his power back (wherever it went).

    My thoughts on this series.

  43. I’m not sure how I feel about Suou suddenly becoming a contractor. It does add a new element to the series, but it came around so suddenly that I’m still processing it. The scene with the gun reminded me of Revolutionary Girl Utena and Shakugan no Shana though…

    >.>; It’s so weird that Mao is in a squirrel now. Before, his cat form was cute yet there was a hint of danger. There’s nothing dangerous about a flying squirrel that has a bow around its neck.
