“Letter of Lies”

This was an episode about a struggling writer sending a letter full of lies to his mother so that she doesn’t worry about him, but all I could focus on was the fact that Niche was wearing Sylvette’s underwear. Lag may fancy the thought of that, but all Niche can do is openly complain about how it rides up her crotch and butt. How is that not win?

It was a bold sacrifice on Niche’s part, in order to get out of having to drink Sylvette’s especially bad-tasting soup for three days. Oddly enough, that still didn’t save them from getting a canteen of the stuff for lunch. In any case, that was probably more of a bonus for Lag since he’s well aware the sight of Niche in panties is much more appealing than his ugly boxers. It’s unfortunate that he’s promised to buy her some loose fitting ones with his first paycheck, because if I had to choose between her wearing those or going commando, the choice would be obvious. I jest, but I like how this is an ongoing gag in the series. It’s somewhat service-like, but more cute than anything else due to Niche’s naivety. While I sincerely believe that, you won’t find me objecting to Gaichuu battle scenes like this. >_>

In terms of story, the short version is as I mentioned above with the end result being that Louisa Alcott suspected her aspiring writer son Vincent was sending her lies all along. In light of the inadvertent revelation by Lag’s shindan, she was relieved to learn that he’s actually struggling yet persevering for her sake. All his previous letters made her uncertain about how things were really going, but happy that he didn’t want to worry her. To me, Loiusa’s response seemed a bit too convenient, but it did help reiterate to Lag that a person’s feelings can be conveyed even if the words written in a letter aren’t necessarily the truth. It’s pretty much the same thing that fellow Bee Moc Sullivan told him earlier, except he was a jerk about it and implied that Lag’s shindan effect is nuisance for the job. I guess that’s Moc for you though, whose heartless self comes as no surprise after he shrugged off Nelli’s request in a similar fashion back in episode five.

On the lighter side of things, it was amusing to see Niche feed Steak a book for “safe” keeping after she noticed that it contained a letter of sorts. It was funnier to see her get it out of him later on, revealing the truthful letter that Vincent had written long ago but didn’t have the heart to send. Other than that, it’s nice to see how Lag’s still heavily influenced by Gauche’s words and actions five years ago. It sort of amazes me how they were able to set up so much foundation for his character with just the first two episodes. Next week it looks like we’re going to have the Letter Bee Christmas episode, which already looks like a lot of fun with all the Bees dressing up as Santa Claus.

* I think it’s safe to say that Steak doesn’t enjoy pantsu riding up his crotch and butt either.
* I don’t know if this is a sign of things to come, but the narration for the Amberground Scriptures was done by Hisakawa Aya, who also voices Lag’s mother Anu Seeing.

  1. Mizunashi:
I agree with Kiddy Girl-and getting serious in episode 9, but if you’ve watched Kiddy Grade then Show Spoiler ▼

As for Omni, he says he just hasn’t gotten around to it yet. It doesn’t sound like he’s dropped it though.

  2. I hope they get back on the main storyline…..

and as for kiddy girl getting serious at ep 8-9 just like kiddy grade… Due to the fact that the kiddy girl has a happy mood, I just cant the feeling of seriousness…
