「学園祭でもメイド様」 (Gakuensai demo Maid-sama)
“A Maid Even at The School Festival”

I had a pretty good indication of how biased Misaki is against guys, but this episode made me wonder if the series should be retitled, “The Student Council President is a Dictator”. Make no mistake here. Misaki rules with an iron fist and is absolutely relentless in doing so. (ALL HAIL MISAKI!) They’re undoubtedly trying to build up the brash side of her character and depict exactly how much she hates men, but damn, she almost made me hate her to a degree when she turned down all of the male students’ ideas for school festival activities and quickly accepted any from the girls. I say “almost” though, as it was a display of feminist supremacy in full force, but the guys brought it upon themselves by suggesting sexual harassment-like events such as a “strip rock-paper-scissors free-for-all welcome tournament”. So yeah, I can’t really blame Misaki for wanting to murder each and every one of them.

The ongoing joke with Misaki dealing with the male students was pretty amusing to start with, but I felt they overused it a bit too much as almost every other scene had Misaki going evil-eyed and laying the smack down. Luckily though (and much to my entertainment), the guys were smart enough to drag Takumi in to try to convince Misaki on their behalf. He was pretty indifferent for the most part, but still left Misaki at a loss on how to deal with him since he knows her secret. It got even better near the end when he willingly took part in war-themed cosplay that the guys secretly planned out of spite, dressing up as a naval captain and getting Misaki all flustered. It wasn’t quite enough to soften her up completely, but it did bring out that other side of the tsundere personality. Regardless, Takumi continues to score brownie points over Misaki, saving her from an awkward situation where she habitually referred to a customer as “master”.

Other than that, it was a pretty quirky episode much like the first one, with my personal highlights being Misaki in her neko-maid get-up and dealing with her three new regular customers (the difficult students from episode one), Takumi flipping Misaki’s skirt to see if she’s wearing flashy pantsu, and Misaki apologizing and asking for help after realizing she went overboard. So cuteness, comedy, and a dash of dramatic character development. Not bad for a second showing. Next episode has Misaki taking part in “Little Sister Day” (at her cafe I imagine) and very reluctantly giving us the twin-tails look. Reluctance is usually the starting point of breaking down a tsundere’s strong exterior, so I’m looking forward to it. Should be fun at entirely Misaki’s expense. =P

  1. I hate the moments when they show only her or his face all flashy and smileing its unnatural and looks crapy i hope they stop with that kind of gayoffs and show some boobs soon or i will stop to watch this

  2. can’t wait to actually see the episode, especially when Usui lifts up her skirt and is wearing the uniform, its scary how the guy looks so professional in almost anything. After watching the first episode i was hooked and now i a dying to read the next chapter, since i finished reading the available chapters over the weekend.

  3. The “Misaki hates men” thing is getting old pretty fast. I hope they tone it down in next episodes in favor of more romance development.
But then, why do they have to make all guys look like jerks so that they can justify Misaki’s prejudice. I really hate it when they do that – as if all men are idiots or heartless bastards. It’s one of my biggest anime pet peeves which will probably force me to drop an otherwise good show.

    1. Eh, I would say that orange-haired girl from Working!! is a bit more obnoxious than this. If anything, she seems pretty normal. Like, she converses with that scrawny kid at the gate and does just fine even before she realizes she’s been overreacting. So, it really only seems to be situational.

Or maybe I just have a tolerance for it because the characters are charming? After all, Usui flipping her skirt would be some pretty serious harassment, but it’s harmless because he’s cool.

      Also, YES! YOUR MAJESTY!

    1. Really? You think so? To me, the art and everything just look so nice I just have noticed any flaws.

Thanks for the continuous stream of great updates Divine. As selfish as it may be, I’m glad to see RC doing so well still.

  4. It has everything that high school girls would love watching. The guy is REALLY CUTE. But I’m getting a bit old to enjoy all of this. However it is still a good anime. Just wondering divine, HOW DO YOU HAVE THE TIME TO BLOG SO MANY SERIES?? This is insane speed and quality. Thanks so much.

  5. I have to say….Usui in Naval Officer garb made me just as flustered as when I read that chapter in the manga. Sigh….I must have looked weird staring at a fictional character with a drool face on. Though it did make me wish I could see my guy dress up like that….

Uh…anyway…I still loved when all the guys we like “Wow! This looks awesome! Lets help!”. I just had to giggle. 🙂

  6. “strip rock-paper-scissors free-for-all welcome tournament” – I always love their ideas. //sarcasm

And it was pretty *cough* *cough* for Takumi to do it to her. I mean, seriously, I wouldn’t do it but what’s up with him, anyway. :O I never understand him (even though if it’s to a degree that he’d love her that much). xD

  7. I love this anime!! I went ‘squeee’ thru the whole show. Haven’t seen all the episodes yet 🙁 but i heard that they are still in the process of making more. I try to resist the urge to read the manga.

I just hope they get together. All the other anime’s (Ouran High School Host Club, Special A and Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge) was kind of sad to see them not end up together. Eventhough, they were all bloody good anime!!
