「目指せ海軍本部 エース救出への船出!」 (Mezase Kaigun Honbu – Ēsu Kyūshutsu e no Funade)
“To the Navy Headquarters! Off to Rescue Ace!”

Wouldn’t it have been awesome if the Blackbeard pirates just died right there? But no, Shiryuu had to go and save them with an antidote. He even joins their crew! Jokes aside, this part was a good twist that I did not foresee when it occurred in the manga. I have to admit though, almost every crew member of Blackbeard’s makes me sick to my stomach with disgust, especially that sick guy on the horse.

Meanwhile, back on the stolen marine ship, Buggy and the escaped inmates are celebrating with beer. However, Luffy and Mr. 3 are still sad about Bon-chan’s sacrifice and Luffy gives Buggy a second red nose (yes that was a joke in the anime)! Jinbei then talks to Luffy about how indebted he is to recieve the chance to save Ace (even though he did most of the core work getting here), and then brings up Arlong. He said it was also something that he needed to thank and apologize for, so it’s possible that even though they were fellow merman, Arlong was still a “bad” merman. Who knows, maybe they’re even related.

Most of the time this episode was spent on the hilarious fact that Buggy, even though weak and cowardly, has some pretty famous friends and connections throughout his life. He’s been in Roger’s crew, and coincidently enough, got to know Shanks. The World Government finally realize his connections and deem him dangerous enough to pin half the blame of the outbreak of Impel Down on his behalf. Although initially freaked out of his mind, somehow he manages to turn it around and even instill the pirate “dreams” to the inmates like a mini Gol D. Roger. With this, the problem of mutiny disappears, which is one hell of a way to settle things. The way Buggy’s dragged around and thrown up with qualities a “main” character would have is definitely Oda trying to have him around a lot longer in the story than normal. I’ve said before that he’s his favorite villain, so Buggy will be around for a long while, whether you like him or not. Personally, I find his incredibly bad luck mixed with good surface reputation comedic gold. On a more trivial note, I accidently capped Pandaman in one of the screenshots. He’s a recurring character that appears in crowds hidden somewhere as an animator’s ongoing joke (I’m not sure if he appears in the manga). I also noticed that some of the pirate lackeys had Franky’s voice actor. Of course I can’t be sure, but I think his voice is pretty recognizable.

With the last scene being Marineford, I had chills just looking at the wide shot. For any of you manga readers out there, you probably felt the same. Seeing Marineford pre-war is just breath-taking. Alas, I can’t say anymore, but anime only viewers are in for a big ride.

I don’t know if you can call next week filler, since I believe there were additional scenes like these in the manga, but they will definitely flesh them out so they can be full episodes. Regardless, it’ll be fun to see Nami’s and Franky’s antics on screen again (though I kind of want to see Zoro’s predicament more).

  1. Buggy’s speech was one of the most badass moments in the whole manga so far. I still remember it quite clearly:
“Quiet, you flashy idiots! Don’t get yourselves worked up on a whim. This ship won’t stop! It’s headed straight to the middle of the war. We are just passengers going with the flow. Just brace yourselves and think for a second: we can reach it! A chance at the top of the world has appeared. This is a once in a lifetime chance!
If you are a man, come and fulfill that dream with me! Today, I will conquer Whitebeard…and with him the TOP!!!”
Just badass…coming from a coward like Buggy makes it even more awesome by itself. Moments like these are what makes One Piece what it is!

    1. HA! that’s buggy! ULTIMATE MAN OF OPPORTUNITY!! *anybody else think he looks like Bird Gang Rapper Jim JONES, its freaking uncanny!” curious about these fillers, I’ve been waiting fo a minute now anticipating when they would air episodes that show off what the rest of the crew has been doing, or are they not gonna show their adventures yet because of the rumored Show Spoiler ▼

YALL keep talking about??? well, fo my cash I’d love to see the ZORO and horo horo horo girl, and the sanji fruitcake island scenarios.

  2. Marineford kinda reminds of Enies Lobby.

I might skip watching One Piece for about 5 eps so I can watch all the crew’s whereabouts in one go. I remember I had to proper drag myself to watch the previous crew’s whereabouts arc.

I’m much more interested in the upcoming Marineford War Arc.

    1. It’ll probably be 3-4 episodes if they focus each episode to two people, but yeah you’re close. Interestingly enough, these episodes might actually be pretty important and give more clues as to how they might get together than the manga did (At least, I hope they do). I’ll enjoy em nontheless 😛

  3. CAPTAIN BUGGY!!!!

I knew that the first page inserts were going to get another round of animated episodes. Oh well, I’ll just have to wait for the creation of the Legend of Captain Buggy… just kidding.

      1. lol, Well no that’s just coincidence. It’s not impossible to record two voices at once, especially in an animated medium. One seiyuu could do all the characters if he wanted, they’d just have to record it at separate times and then push the dialogue samples onto the same video.

  4. Panda man < Panda neko <3 🙂

I only like buggy waaay back when he lose half his body and looked like a dwarf. Those were fun times.

In one of her famous diminishing oppai scenes. I totaly agree more Zoro with ペローナ nice nice 😛

  5. Well, Ive started thinking, after all the recent events in the anime AND the manga that Buggy just might become really powerful and a realy bad enemy to have for all the characters of the series, as they all just take him lightly, he has always been shown to be weak ad cowardly, however, if you lok at his Devil Fruit power, it seems that it is indeed quite useful and may be used to an extremely powerful intent or use with appropriate thinking or ideas.

Its just me thinking cause as wel all know Oda is completely unpredictable, but this might be the case 😛

    What do you think Kiiragi?

PS. We didn’t get a “Hey I thought that guy died a while ago” quote for crocodile from one of the commenters lol

      1. And yet, on a base level he’s probably more powerful than Usopp.

Usopp, who would probably kick Buggy’s ass with a little effort because he’s just that much smarter.

    1. Lmao, yeah that guy hasn’t appeared since three episodes ago. I’ve said this before, but I honestly think Buggy will be there with them at the end in Raftel. He’s going to be in the same position as always, on the sidelines, forced to work with the Strawhats. There’s some info that I know that influences my belief on this, but I don’t really know if it’s knowledge an anime-only viewer should or would know. I guess I’ll spoiler it.
      Show Spoiler ▼

      1. I agree. If Whitebeard’s words are anything to go by, Raftel is going to be the greatest battle in OP. Certainly the Straw Hats will have defeated a lot of the other crews by then but nevertheless I expect to see heaps of characters there. The actual One Piece is going to have to be pretty awesome to meet the climax it’s leading up to. Because so far we just know that it’s treasure it’s hard to see something so simple leading to anything but an anti-climax…

      2. Kiiragi, I read the comment under your spoiler tag and I doubt it’s a spoiler. It’s just a prediction.

But yeah, we literally know nothing about One Piece other than it’s the greatest treasure in the world and that Gol D. Roger had obtained it and left it on Raftel.

I like the part on Saboady Archipelago where we were hinted that One Piece may not even actually exist.

At Roger’s execution, when the random man in the crowd screamed to him about where ONE PIECE is located, Roger simply replied by laughing.

Now that I think about it, Shanks and Buggy should know what One Piece is since they were both part of the Roger pirates. Possibly Whitebeard might know. And Teach/Blackbeard.

  6. I hope the upcoming nakama episodes don’t have any new, important plot information. I would much rather see Oda flesh these out in the manga. It’s about time for a Straw Hat Separation cover arc pt.2.

The Blackbeard Pirates sure are quite contemptible but it’s interesting to see the way Oda’s building them up for main antagonists. Most OP crews only have 3 or 4 members explored and the rest are just no-name default pirates. ZEHAHAHAHA Blackbeard’s is certainly my favourite OP laugh.

    1. Well, the first were shown going to Impel Down. These are played during the trip from ID/to Marineford. After the current manga situation gets animated, I wouldn’t be surprised if we get more during the sail to wherever they’re sailing to.
