It’s Triple Booking’s Shiho, Karuna, and Yuri! As mentioned last time, the SYD version is Shino, Aria, and Suzu “secretly” taking on the roles of the idol group members from Ujiie Touzen‘s other gag manga, Idol no Akahon. I’ve been listening to the “Jounetsu no Hana” song on the opening single for some time now, so it was pretty cool to see a PV commercial for it here with the girls kicking spirit ass as shrine maidens in animal masks (similar to Naruto’s ANBU). They even cast it off as the theme song to some “Three Sister Spirit Force” movie that’s released under the Queen Record label — a parody of Starchild Records’ parent company, King Records. While the commercial itself and the variety show with Triple Booking investigating ghost stories were nothing more than a tribute/cameo, it sure gave a drastically different feel to the series by starting the episode with them. The latter also set the episode up for the skits involving ghost stories and Suzu being scared to death of them.

I couldn’t help but get some Kumashiro Maya vibes when I saw Shino whip out the occult stuff, so I was a bit disappointed when the script didn’t take that gag and run with it. Admittedly, I wasn’t expecting Naruko’s cackling to be the source of the creepy voices coming from the third floor hallway, but after seeing her drooling over some yaoi magazine she confiscated, I thought she could have easily passed as a possessed spirit of sorts. It didn’t come as any surprise that Shino and Aria would dig into the goods themselves and analyze the end result of two sweaty guys with stained underwear, but I never would’ve expected Shino to lay the smack down on Suzu for trying to ignore a student’s concern leading up to that. Mistreating Takatoshi is one thing, but hitting Suzu is like… child abuse. I guess Shino’s lucky that went on behind closed doors, because anyone else would’ve saw that punch she sent Suzu flying with quite differently. It’d probably be right along the lines of how she’s going to perceived at the beach next time as part of the student council’s bonding event. On that note, it looks like the next episode won’t be lacking terribly in fan-service — like the bath scene during their overnight stay at Kyoto was — as Aria is poised to deliver.

It seems like the fan-service isn’t the only thing that’s been ramping up lately though. I’m finding that a lot of the jokes are raising eyebrows more often than not, with Aria’s one about serving as a “plate” for semen even catching Shino by surprise. I’ve grown so accustomed to Tsuda’s words being twisted into some perverted joke lately that seeing it happen to Shino feels like the perversion just got kicked up a notch. It’s pretty clear now that the one we should all be careful of is the much more unsuspecting Aria, with her big breasts and obsession with cleanliness, particular down below. There’s also Ranko too, who is out to label Takatoshi as some huge pervert who likes girls with really awesome orgasmic facial expressions. Eyes rolling to the back of the head, wide open mouth with a tongue sticking out — the works. It’s hard to believe that we’ve gotten to the point that jokes about bust sizes and going topless fall into the tamer category, but that appears to be the case when Takatoshi’s talking crotch a la Suzu is even a step up from those. In short, if it doesn’t deal with nether regions, bodily fluids, orgasms, or fetishes, it’s clearly the more innocent side to this series. As such, it’ll be interesting to see how far the student council outing pushes the envelope next time, since Takatoshi will be around to set up the jokes and deliver the comedic jabs.

  1. I was slightly confused about the opening being sung by Triple Booking, because I did just read the manga. Also, what does SYD stand for??? It’s the last line of the OP.

Kobayashi Yuu’s voice can be so hyper, even her cackling voice can be mistaken for a sinister ghastly voice.

Anyone here wondering if Mutsumi actually has a crush on Takatoshi? Ever since she went blushing and pleading with him to form the Judo club. Her club member mentioning to Takatoshi about her talking about him all the time (and paid dearly for babbling), and then during assembly wondering why he and Shino are both looking so flustered.

Ranko: So what kind of girls do you fancy?
Takatoshi: Er… girls that smile a lot, I guess.
Ranko: I see, so you like girls that go ahegao a lot, huh?
    LOL

  3. I must agree that the jokes themselves are getting a lot more lewd. But the way they’re delivered is so nonchalant that it makes them that much funnier. I’m glad that this show is there to simply deliver random idiocy like I see with my IRL female friends, since they DO talk the way those two do.

Anyway, I can’t help laugh at when they make jokes about Tsuda’s crotch by trumpeting the elephant. That makes me chuckle every time.
